[00:00:56] So, I had heard about this one, was curious, I like M. Night Shyamalan,

[00:01:27] he's definitely an auteur, so I will watch whatever he does and I've seen everything

[00:01:31] he's done up to this point. I had heard kind of mixed things about it which I guess is oftentimes

[00:01:36] typical with M. Night and it's no surprise or no big news that he for sure has a big share of duds

[00:01:45] in his career. I think he's one of the most inconsistent and unpredictable filmmakers out

[00:01:50] there like he ranges from doing some of the worst movies like of the year, of the decade,

[00:01:55] to doing like one of the best movies of the year. Like I think Split is probably my favorite of his

[00:02:01] whole career but then he has like The Last Airbender and After Earth and things like that,

[00:02:06] so never really know what you're going to get with him. I don't know what causes the very

[00:02:13] stark difference in quality at times and like how things fluctuate so much but whatever,

[00:02:18] not here to talk about that. And I think I was, I guess I delayed getting around to this one

[00:02:25] because I feel like I had to be in the right mood. M. Night Shyamalan's movies are so

[00:02:29] strange and tonally weird that I really have to be in the right mindset to get into them.

[00:02:35] Finally did, about a year later now. And overall I don't know, I mean I know there's some people

[00:02:41] who are really not liking it either. I was not a fan. I think it's pretty bad. Probably my least

[00:02:49] favorite film of his since, I think prior to The Visit. I've liked everything since The Visit a

[00:02:55] fair bit so I think this is his worst in about a decade or more. He, I know it's hard to even

[00:03:01] describe if you haven't seen many of his movies or even haven't seen this one. It's hard to really

[00:03:06] describe why his movies are so odd but there's just something so strange about his storytelling,

[00:03:13] how characters talk to each other, the overall tone, the humor. It's just so weird and

[00:03:22] sometimes that works in the movie's favor. Sometimes films like Split or Glass,

[00:03:29] that kind of thing work. And then I think in this, all the things that bug me about M. Night

[00:03:35] Shyamalan's style did not work in this and bugged me a lot in this. I thought the overall concept,

[00:03:41] I won't spoil too much in terms of the, I guess, origin of it but I think that's interesting

[00:03:48] overall and I appreciate him always trying to do something different. He's ambitious and he wants

[00:03:53] to try and make something unique. I can respect that and I think the overall idea, at least what

[00:03:59] I got from it, of fanaticism of people especially dealing in religion or politics or whatever else

[00:04:05] it might be like cults and them saying, alright this scripture is what's going to happen or it

[00:04:12] has happened. If we don't do this everything's going to be over or my family's going to die or

[00:04:19] any kind of very fanatical belief when it comes to that sort of situation. Sadly we are in an age

[00:04:26] where that's all the more prevalent and people are able to gather in numbers especially via

[00:04:33] social media and the internet and all that so I can respect that he's trying to make a point on

[00:04:40] modern culture and perspectives but it still just did not work for me really at all. I thought

[00:04:48] the dialogue was terrible. I think that there's this very overly proper way of talking especially

[00:04:55] in Dave Bautista's group that comes across so tonally off and I can never tell, alright are we

[00:05:03] supposed to be seeing this as scary? Is this darkly funny? Are we supposed to be caring about

[00:05:08] these people like emotional drama sort of thing like a genre or style? I can never tell, alright

[00:05:15] what are you trying to achieve with this very off-culture way of speaking and talking and

[00:05:22] storytelling and so that was bad. I thought performances, I thought the little girl was

[00:05:27] terrible I'd say but that's true. I think Dave Bautista he's grown on me a lot. I don't think

[00:05:32] he's an amazing actor but he has a good presence and I think everybody else, I like Jonathan Groff

[00:05:38] and I think everybody else is at least decent but still there's something even in like Rupert

[00:05:42] Grint and some of the Dave Bautista gang like their performances are all over the place,

[00:05:48] very inconsistent. I can never really get a grasp or understanding of really anyone.

[00:05:54] I felt like the ideas that were being presented of alright if you don't present a sacrificial

[00:06:00] lamb of sorts these apocalypse situations or events are going to happen and then they

[00:06:07] sort of go through those throughout the film and the whole thing of film being a visual medium

[00:06:14] and it being show don't tell which I don't always need a movie to show me. I'm fine with the

[00:06:20] movie being dialogue driven and being telling at times but this is the kind of thing where I think

[00:06:25] it would have been better to show because it's always like Dave Bautista group saying alright

[00:06:30] this scary thing's going to happen, be afraid and it felt so empty and maybe that's the point

[00:06:37] because they are seemingly these fanatics who are trying to convince Jonathan Groff and his

[00:06:43] family that these things are going to happen. I don't know I could never really get a hold of

[00:06:47] anything I just didn't care. I thought overall it was kind of boring and repetitive and I thought

[00:06:55] that the final few minutes I thought that worked and I liked the resolution of certain characters

[00:07:02] but really the middle of the movie was a slog and it was goofy like unintentionally goofy I thought,

[00:07:08] wasn't scary, it wasn't that thought-provoking and I felt like I could kind of tell the ending

[00:07:14] the moment it started. It felt dragged out so sadly not a fan, very disappointed, wanted to

[00:07:21] love it. Wanted to love every M. Night Shyamalan movie and maybe it's one that will grow on me over

[00:07:25] time. I know I say that a lot but again I want to like these movies especially since he is trying

[00:07:31] to do something different. So let me know what you think in the comments whether you liked it or

[00:07:35] didn't like it or whatever you think of M. Night let me know if you're listening to this on YouTube

[00:07:39] and you can comment please let me know. So that one is a two out of five.
