[00:00:32] Please make sure to rate, review and subscribe to the show.

[00:00:35] And if you're listening to this on YouTube, please let us know your thoughts in the comments.

[00:00:40] Thanks.

[00:00:42] 77.

[00:00:43] Let's do something that's a little bit different.

[00:00:45] First time doing this, actually maybe second time I guess, since I just did Ghostbusters Afterlife on repeat viewings.

[00:00:52] I want to talk about David Fincher as The Killer, which was the very first movie that I reviewed on our daily series,

[00:00:59] which started back in late January, I think.

[00:01:01] So you can check out my initial viewing review of that.

[00:01:05] And so I figured, hey, I want to rewatch this.

[00:01:08] I think there's some things I missed the first time around.

[00:01:10] I loved David Fincher.

[00:01:11] I always want to give him the benefit of the doubt because I am a huge, huge fan of his.

[00:01:17] And I figured maybe this is something that we could do occasionally where especially if it's a newer film

[00:01:23] that I've only seen once, I'll rewatch it.

[00:01:25] If I have that interest or if someone out there wants me to rewatch something and give it another chance,

[00:01:30] I'll do like a second viewing, a third viewing, whatever.

[00:01:33] So if you have any thoughts on that, let me know.

[00:01:35] But I'll just do the synopsis just in case you're unfamiliar with it or you need a refresher.

[00:01:41] So The Killer is done by David Fincher, stars Michael Fassbender, Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell.

[00:01:47] And the synopsis is After Faithful Near Miss, an assassin battles his employers and himself on an international manhunt.

[00:01:55] And Cess isn't personal.

[00:01:58] Well, I gave this one spoiler.

[00:02:00] I gave this one a four out of five on my first viewing.

[00:02:03] I thought it was solid, but to me and I still in some ways think it is, it is lesser venture.

[00:02:08] But as I said earlier, I think the intrigue and rewatchability of a lot of his movies

[00:02:16] drew me into wanting to watch it again.

[00:02:18] And I do want to watch it again and again down the road.

[00:02:21] And I think that I won't repeat myself or try not to repeat myself too much from the initial viewing.

[00:02:27] I'll just stack on to what I said.

[00:02:30] I think the movie is still at about the same level, maybe a half star rating higher than it was the first time.

[00:02:38] I think it left more of a mark on me this time around than it did in the first viewing.

[00:02:43] I like all of the direction.

[00:02:45] Of course, it's directed so fluidly edited so well.

[00:02:49] One thing I read about the sound work was that they...

[00:02:52] And I notice it a lot more this time around than I did the first where the sound is being used in a fairly unique, ambitious way

[00:03:01] where how the movie is cut and edited.

[00:03:05] That is, the sound is intermixed within that where if he's inside a room,

[00:03:12] the sound transitions from interior sounds to outside sounds.

[00:03:16] And then when he's listening to music, if you're in his POV, you're hearing him as he hears the music at that volume.

[00:03:23] And then when it cuts away, you're hearing a muffled version of that.

[00:03:26] And if he's riding a motorcycle, you hear what he's listening to or hearing within the helmet.

[00:03:34] And then when it cuts away, like outside shots, you hear the sounds of the city.

[00:03:38] So it's actually like... That's something I really was like, wow, that's amazing.

[00:03:41] I feel his very signature venture in that way in terms of him playing with editing and sound.

[00:03:48] Like it's amazing in how that's done.

[00:03:50] And I wish that had gotten more praise because I don't know if I've actually ever seen another movie that does it in that way.

[00:03:55] So I think all the technical aspects of the movie worked a lot better for me.

[00:04:00] Maybe I was watching it on a better sound system that could have been it.

[00:04:03] I encourage you all to watch this with very good sound because that adds a lot.

[00:04:07] All the stuff I said originally, great performances.

[00:04:10] Love Trent, Resner and Atticus Ross. They are amazing always.

[00:04:14] Love their score so good.

[00:04:16] The chapter structure I like and it worked a little bit better for me this time around.

[00:04:22] The pacing worked better and I think I found it a little bit more funny as well.

[00:04:27] Like the deadpan sort of academic inner monologue of him.

[00:04:32] I think people really found that to be a bore and tedious but in some ways I think it's meant to be a little tedious because he's so

[00:04:39] at least in some ways calculated.

[00:04:42] And I think the meaning of the movie, I'll try not to spoil it too much where he comes across very calculated and on top of things

[00:04:49] but then he's actually not really most of the time things always go wrong

[00:04:53] and that feels very human and very fentury where he's taking something that would originally be seen as someone who can do anything perfectly

[00:05:02] and they're actually not because they're just a human being that works

[00:05:05] and it has a lot of the signature fenture stuff of someone being obsessed with something like the social network or some others

[00:05:13] and that's something I personally attached to because I can become very obsessive about things

[00:05:18] and have that very singular focus where nothing else really matters.

[00:05:22] So I think it's still a very solid movie underrated in my opinion.

[00:05:27] I think it's a great as I said a while back that it was released on Netflix primarily I wish had been more of a theatrical release.

[00:05:34] There's just something about Netflix that makes it feel lesser same thing with Mank.

[00:05:39] So I don't like that new addition to Fincher's release style but is what it is can't do anything about it.

[00:05:47] So I would still check it out.

[00:05:49] It's worth watching.

[00:05:50] It's unconventional.

[00:05:52] It's too long and very unique still doesn't always mean it's perfect but still very unique.

[00:05:59] And that's something to say of itself.

[00:06:02] So I think I'm going to give that one a light light four and a half out of five.
