Henry gets trapped underwater with No Way Up.
[00:00:00] Pulling up to Mickey D's just for drinks. Oh yeah, that's me.
[00:00:05] Nothing extra, just perfection and a straw.
[00:00:08] Coming in hot for the coldest cups on the block.
[00:00:12] Because there are drinks. Then there are drinks from McDonald's.
[00:00:17] Ever combine an ice cold frozen Coke with piping hot fries?
[00:00:21] Try frozen drinks any size for $1.49.
[00:00:24] Prices of participation may vary, cannot be combined with any other offer.
[00:00:30] Hey everybody, it's Henry with the Film Buds podcast.

[00:00:40] Thanks.
[00:00:41] 75. Let's get to the new horror film which is on demand now. No Way Up.
[00:00:48] This one is directed by Claudio Faw, stars Cole Meany, Will Attenborough, Jeremiah Sommor, Sophie McIntosh.
[00:00:59] Phyllis Logan and a few others.
[00:01:01] And the synopsis is characters from different backgrounds are thrown together when the plane they're traveling on crashes into the Pacific Ocean.
[00:01:09] A nightmare fight for survival ensues with the air supply running out and dangers creeping in from all sides.
[00:01:16] So I had heard about this one over the last couple of months.
[00:01:20] Didn't have an immediate interest in seeing it, but I am still a fan of as I just talked about Night Swim, these sort of simple concepts where there's a disaster or it's taking an everyday thing and making it scary.
[00:01:33] I like that I'm a bit of a sucker for it as I've said many times before.
[00:01:37] So this still did intrigue me in some ways, but I did hear pretty mixed things about nothing amazing.
[00:01:45] Just it does the job, blah, blah, blah.
[00:01:48] But I figured, hey, I pop it in at the time. So let's do it.
[00:01:51] And I don't think it's nearly as bad. I feel like I say this a lot.
[00:01:55] I don't think it's nearly as bad as some people have said, at least on Letterbox.
[00:01:58] Maybe people are just more harsh on Letterbox.
[00:02:00] I don't know.
[00:02:01] But I thought for what it set out to do, it did competently.
[00:02:06] That's not the most amazing praise, but I don't think there's anything in this movie that is offensively bad.
[00:02:12] There's decent direction.
[00:02:15] The performances are really not that bad.
[00:02:18] The writing is not obnoxious.
[00:02:20] Like a lot of times in movies like this, you'll get people who are really, really loud and just assholes for no reason just to add a little conflict.
[00:02:29] And there are minor moments of that, but it's really fairly toned down for what I was expecting.
[00:02:35] I was thinking I was going to hate spending time with these characters and I really didn't.
[00:02:40] And the plane crash, that's not a spoiler or the shark aspect.
[00:02:45] All that is fine.
[00:02:46] Like I, again, that's not the most amazing praise or you got to see this.
[00:02:50] It's not one of those, but I think it is serviceable.
[00:02:54] I was engaged the whole time.
[00:02:57] It's not too long.
[00:02:58] It's maybe 80 minutes of all the shark movies out there, plane crash movies.
[00:03:03] It's really not the worst.
[00:03:05] It's not one I ever feel the need to go back and see again.
[00:03:08] But I thought that the setup at the airport where they're setting the different characters up and the connections and the relationships, that was fine.
[00:03:17] Like it really was not that bad.
[00:03:18] I was like, wow, I'm kind of enjoying this.
[00:03:21] And I was interested to see how it all played out.
[00:03:24] And I think the shark stuff, it's nothing amazing.
[00:03:27] Like I think it had a couple good moments of jump scares and I liked the plane being stuck on this underwater ridge and slowly sliding down and the water filling up.
[00:03:38] I thought all that was clever.
[00:03:40] And I think there was a certain point where I was thinking, right, there's nothing that's going to blow me away here.
[00:03:45] I can see where it's all going to a certain extent, but still, hey, let's see what happens.
[00:03:51] You never know.
[00:03:52] And the escape, I won't go into it too much, but there's really, I think you can kind of see where it's going again.
[00:03:58] But the escape towards the end that works.
[00:04:02] I like the look of the sharks.
[00:04:05] I think for the budget, which is probably pretty small looks good.
[00:04:08] I like all the stuff that is shot underwater or seemingly shot underwater that looked good.
[00:04:13] The main girl who's incredibly scared of everything and she's having to find her bravery.
[00:04:21] It's a little cliche, but you know, not so bad.
[00:04:24] It was fine.
[00:04:25] And I think people are being a little too harsh on it.
[00:04:27] I don't know why of all the movies out there that people give free passes to.
[00:04:31] I don't know why this one is like this is horrible.
[00:04:33] It's like one of the worst movies in ages.
[00:04:35] I don't think it's that bad.
[00:04:37] I think it it passes the time, you know, so if you like this sort of film, I think you could do worse for sure.
[00:04:44] Not a best of the year.
[00:04:45] Not one I'm like you have to see this movie, but I was pleasantly engaged, pleasantly surprised.
[00:04:53] So that one is a two and a half out of five.
