[00:00:10] Thanks.
[00:00:11] 73.
[00:00:12] Let's get to Zack Snyder's new film now on Netflix which is Rebel Moon Part 2 The
[00:00:20] Scar Giver.
[00:00:22] It is written and directed by Zack Snyder, star Sofia Batella, Digimon Hanzu, Ed Screen,
[00:00:29] Bay Duna, Anthony Hopkins and a few others.
[00:00:33] And the synopsis is Quora and surviving warriors prepare to then veilt their new home alongside
[00:00:39] its people against the realm.
[00:00:42] The warriors face their pasts revealing their motivations before the realms forces arrive
[00:00:46] to crush the growing rebellion.
[00:00:50] So I did review the first part on the Zack Snyder bonus show which I released for
[00:00:56] free on the feed I think back in February which you can check that out now.
[00:01:01] And I was a fan of it, I liked it a lot more than a lot of others seemed to.
[00:01:05] I typically am a bit of a Zack Snyder defender.
[00:01:09] I think there's a lot of very unique interesting memorable aspects to his filmmaking that
[00:01:14] really engage me and I thought Rebel Moon Part 1 was not amazing.
[00:01:20] It's not the next Star Wars, it's nothing like that but it was solid and I found
[00:01:24] refreshing in some ways.
[00:01:26] And this one I was looking forward to because of that.
[00:01:29] Didn't know much about it in terms of what the storyline was aside from it just carrying
[00:01:34] over from the first one so I went fairly blind and I think overall it's okay.
[00:01:41] I know some people are like trashing it across the board and I don't think it's
[00:01:45] really there but it is definitely a step down for me from the first one probably
[00:01:51] his weakest movie in a long long time.
[00:01:55] It does just feel very almost unnecessary, not very substantial.
[00:02:02] I felt like the first one was a very good interesting setup to the world.
[00:02:06] I thought the world building was strong.
[00:02:08] I liked the characters, I liked the flow of the story and really you could
[00:02:13] almost have that be a standalone movie.
[00:02:16] Like this one really doesn't need to exist for the most part.
[00:02:20] It is primarily action and there's a lot of treading water in the beginning where
[00:02:28] it just shows them farming on their homeland and there's this slow-mo farming.
[00:02:33] It does not need to be there.
[00:02:35] It's self-indulgent.
[00:02:37] I don't mind someone like Zack Snyder being self-indulgent but with this
[00:02:42] being a four and a half, five hour movie or duology, whatever you want to call it,
[00:02:48] it feels unnecessary.
[00:02:50] I think Sofia Batella, as I said on the first review,
[00:02:53] I think she's amazing in everything.
[00:02:55] I think she's a great action star.
[00:02:56] She has great presence, great emotional range.
[00:02:59] I love her and she very much carries this whole series and the whole cast is
[00:03:05] not bad.
[00:03:06] I think Ed Skrein, screen, I really like him but for this movie being two
[00:03:11] hours-ish long, the last hour, hour 15 minutes being a big sci-fi battle,
[00:03:19] I'm not against that or a big fantasy sci-fi blockbuster series doing that.
[00:03:25] It just feels too long for what it is because it follows a very familiar
[00:03:31] formula.
[00:03:32] There aren't a lot of surprises.
[00:03:33] The action is decent.
[00:03:34] Like it looks really good.
[00:03:35] I love Zack Snyder's eye for sci-fi and for overall action in general.
[00:03:40] I think he has good choreography and for the most part,
[00:03:43] the slow-mo doesn't bother me aside from some of the stuff at the beginning
[00:03:46] like I had just mentioned.
[00:03:48] It really is very forgettable.
[00:03:50] I think it could have been easily smushed into a three hour movie or so
[00:03:56] rather than two pieces.
[00:03:57] I've heard that they want to do more in this franchise,
[00:04:00] which is fine but I feel like they honestly could do individual stories
[00:04:05] for each one.
[00:04:06] Like I don't think you really needed this second film to wrap up the
[00:04:09] first one. We kind of got it.
[00:04:11] And so if they want to do the third one like they're teasing at the end
[00:04:14] of this one, I'm fine with that.
[00:04:16] I'll watch as many as they make.
[00:04:17] I'm just hoping that they do a different sort of structure to the whole
[00:04:22] series because there's too little substance.
[00:04:27] The character stuff is fairly bland.
[00:04:30] It's still entertaining.
[00:04:31] Like I was still engaged for the whole thing.
[00:04:33] I never really was bored or rolling my eyes.
[00:04:37] There's something offensively wrong with it.
[00:04:39] So it is possible.
[00:04:40] In my opinion, again, I don't think it's as horrible as people are
[00:04:44] making out to be but a little disappointing in the end.
[00:04:49] So that one is a light three out of five.
