[00:00:00] Hey everybody, please make sure to go ahead and rate review and subscribe. Thanks

[00:00:06] 57

[00:00:07] Let's get to the Roadhouse remake and one little quick note. I

[00:00:12] Am gonna be doing I think mainly newer movies coming up in the next few weeks and probably for the foreseeable future

[00:00:19] Whenever possible because the last year too. I've really gotten behind

[00:00:24] On seeing new movies and so I think mainly when possible

[00:00:27] I will be doing newer releases as opposed to going back and doing a lot of earlier stuff

[00:00:32] And now if that's something that you don't want to see let me know in the contact information in the show notes

[00:00:37] happy to oblige and change up the

[00:00:40] Schedule and routine, but for now. I think I'm mainly gonna be focusing on new

[00:00:45] films

[00:00:46] so

[00:00:48] Roadhouse is a Amazon original. It's directed by Doug Lyman stars Jake Jolenhall

[00:00:55] Daniela Melchior

[00:00:57] Connor McGregor Billy

[00:00:59] Magnuson Jessica Williams post Malone for like two seconds and a few others and

[00:01:05] The synopsis is ex UFC fighter Dalton takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys Roadhouse

[00:01:10] Only to discover that this paradise is not all that it seems

[00:01:14] So I saw the original Roadhouse probably back in college, which would have been about seven or eight years ago at least and

[00:01:23] I knew it was a bit of a cult classic and had a

[00:01:28] Decent reputation and I liked it when I saw it. I haven't watched it since then I thought it was charming kind of ridiculous

[00:01:34] But in an interesting way so

[00:01:37] It was an alright experience

[00:01:38] But I put it out of my brain

[00:01:40] Afterwards and when I heard about this one coming out, I was like, okay, I don't really need a remake of all the things you could remake

[00:01:49] Not really needed but alright. I was very interested though because of Jake Jolenhall

[00:01:55] Doug Lyman, I think he's a great director. He did or an identity edge of tomorrow mr. and mrs. Smith

[00:02:02] American May like he's a pretty decent

[00:02:05] action director especially

[00:02:07] But even when I saw the trailer, I knew the overall concept

[00:02:11] I didn't have a huge interest in seeing it going in really despite what I was just saying like I was like, yeah

[00:02:16] All right, I'll guess I'll give it a look and then for whatever reason it blew up on

[00:02:22] Amazon like it had 50 million viewers in the first weekend or something like that something crazy

[00:02:27] I was not expecting that and

[00:02:29] I know the reviews have not been amazing. I think it's been a little polarizing

[00:02:34] Flat out. I thought the movie was bad like I think this is by far Jake Jolenhall's worst movie in years like

[00:02:42] Probably his only dud that he's done over the last decade pretty much aside from maybe one and

[00:02:48] I think that

[00:02:51] He and I said this on my letterbox review not only the quality of the movie but the role

[00:02:57] Seems so beneath them at this point in his career

[00:03:00] Like if you look at the last 10 years that he's done like prisoners enemy

[00:03:06] Nightcrawler like this goes on and on

[00:03:10] Even his role in Spire Man far from home like this role there is so little to it

[00:03:16] It gives him nothing to do really on a performance level physically. He's shredded like he looks amazing

[00:03:23] Like I can't imagine the workouts he had to do for this role physically. He fits it

[00:03:27] But the character so bland nothing to I don't know what drew him to this movie aside from just I guess money or maybe

[00:03:34] Location I would have shot a movie there, but I thought the movie was really not good

[00:03:40] There were moments of charm of it's so ridiculous. That's good, but for the most part

[00:03:45] It's so stupid and moronic with no real purpose

[00:03:49] the

[00:03:51] Bar brawls get tiresome. It's just a bunch of fistfights over and over and over again

[00:03:56] for the most part they're shot well like I think some of the

[00:03:59] kinetic long takes are

[00:04:01] interesting but

[00:04:02] The action itself got really tiresome after a while

[00:04:07] The location looks amazing like that's easy to shoot Florida and make it look good

[00:04:12] But it looks really good. I do like the look of the Roadhouse

[00:04:15] But also and it's not any surprise. I'm sure to fans of him or not Connor McGregor is

[00:04:23] embarrassing in this like he is so bad and I

[00:04:27] Can understand like he has a pretty weighty role. So like

[00:04:32] He's a draw obviously. He's a huge star in his profession, but

[00:04:37] His performance is terrible like the accent he's doing. I don't know

[00:04:42] How authentic it is or to him in real life or what what he's doing?

[00:04:46] It sounds so phony and so over the top to where it doesn't work his

[00:04:51] Physicality like he's great in fights obviously, but his weird like sort of ape

[00:04:57] Motions to his walking. He looks ridiculous in this and I really don't

[00:05:02] Understand all the motivations whether it's his idea Doug Lyman's idea whatever

[00:05:07] I just that character was really bad and that performance was horrible. Sorry, but and

[00:05:14] Everybody else I think Jessica Williams kind of just in there randomly

[00:05:18] I feel like the camera didn't even really give her time to be in the movie despite her being an important character

[00:05:23] Like the camera was sort of always distant from her and wandering around to where I was never really getting to spend time

[00:05:29] Looking at her talking which sounds weird, but maybe I'm crazy, but that's how I felt

[00:05:34] Billy Magnuson if that's how you say it I like him. He's typically a fun villain like over the top sort of self-aware villain

[00:05:41] And so performance wise nothing amazing even Jake Jolenhol is kind of bland, you know, like there's

[00:05:48] Really not much going on there

[00:05:51] It's also way too long. It's like two hours. It should have been 90 minutes

[00:05:54] The plot gets so big and overly complicated in the second half that I'm just lost my heart

[00:06:00] Let's just end this please and I went in wine to love this movie. I'm like, all right. It's ridiculous

[00:06:05] I'm fine with campy stuff be movie stuff stupid like brawling action movies. I don't care like testosterone filled moves

[00:06:13] I'm totally there for it. I had no interest in wanting to hate this right off the bat

[00:06:19] But there were so many scenes like for example

[00:06:22] The scene on Billy Magnuson's boat where he's trying to get his crew member to shave him while they're on the waves

[00:06:29] like really

[00:06:30] Rough waves on the ocean is so stupid and it's not really funny because to give a little context

[00:06:38] He keeps on getting cut by the crew member when he's getting shaved because again

[00:06:42] The waves are so rough and then he gets mad at the guy over and over and over again

[00:06:47] And it's like what are we trying to achieve here in this scene? It's not funny

[00:06:51] It's stupid and not in a way. That's this is so stupid. It's enjoyable

[00:06:56] It's like what is the purpose of this scene and I don't know if that comes down to execution or what but it's

[00:07:04] Scenes like that that made me just roll my eyes. I'm thinking

[00:07:08] whose idea was this like wise is in the movie and

[00:07:13] So the script was horrendous

[00:07:15] direction was okay

[00:07:17] The soundtrack is

[00:07:19] Overall, it's good and I like the live band kind of soundstage atmosphere of the Roadhouse, but

[00:07:25] to me

[00:07:27] The music became way too constant to where every single scene there was a band playing or there was a soundtrack

[00:07:34] song

[00:07:35] Injected I'm like I'm not getting 30 seconds to catch my breath or to

[00:07:40] Think about what's going on. It was like alright plot plot plot or character song song song and it got really

[00:07:47] Annoying after a while and so I can see if you liked the movie

[00:07:51] Like I can see certain things like because there are plenty of stupid movies that I like that other people think are horrible

[00:07:57] So it's just personal taste here and I

[00:08:00] Was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and there were moments that

[00:08:04] Had me laughing or smiling because it was so goofy, but I'm hoping Jake Jolenhall just did this for

[00:08:10] the fun of it for a paycheck and then is going back to his more

[00:08:15] Serious stuff because hey do what you want to do. I'm sure it was a blast to make

[00:08:18] But I'm really hoping performance wise he gets back on track because this was a

[00:08:23] Big low point recently for him like I said and it really did feel

[00:08:28] Like this was a movie that he would have done early on in his career to get a big break

[00:08:33] And it maybe got shelved for like a decade. That's how it felt because it did feel dated

[00:08:38] but also his performance was like

[00:08:40] What have we seen the last ten years?

[00:08:42] What are you doing, you know

[00:08:44] And so sorry to be harsh and I still love him nothing against him, but I was a little disappointed in that way

[00:08:50] So it's on Amazon check it out if you're

[00:08:54] Interested and you don't need to see the first one to understand anything. It's its own thing

[00:09:00] So that is a two out of five
