[00:00:00] Hey everybody, please make sure to go ahead and rate review and subscribe. Thanks

[00:00:06] 55

[00:00:07] Let's get to another new film. I'm just trying to cover a lot of ground because we've missed a lot of new films recently

[00:00:13] Let's get to our guile

[00:00:15] Which is now on maybe still theaters. I don't know but it is on digital demand for purchase and rent

[00:00:21] It's directed by Matthew Vaughan

[00:00:24] Stars Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Brian Cranston, Daniel Singh, Dua Lipa,

[00:00:31] Ariana DeBose, Richard E Grant,

[00:00:34] John Cena and few others and

[00:00:37] The Synopsis is a reclusive author who writes espionage novels about a secret agent in a global spy syndicate

[00:00:44] Realizes the plot of the new buck. She's writing starts to mirror real-world events in real time

[00:00:50] So I

[00:00:53] Am not a huge Matthew Vaughan fan. I think he is an auteur

[00:00:58] Doesn't always mean he hits home runs

[00:01:00] But I think I will always still watch his movies just to see because he does have a unique style for better and for worse at times

[00:01:08] And so while I wasn't dying to see this movie. I was like, all right cool. It's sort of a

[00:01:13] Somewhat original spy movie maybe a franchise. I don't know it's a cool good cast. I'm in

[00:01:20] I did at least on letterboxed. I heard it was

[00:01:24] Like horrible it was trashed across the board like I was a little worried going into it

[00:01:29] And didn't really know what to expect because I didn't know anything about the story other than it was a spy

[00:01:35] action movie comedy and

[00:01:38] Maybe it's a hot take but I didn't hate it. I thought it was passable. I was entertained for most of the movie

[00:01:44] I think it is for better and for worse again

[00:01:48] There are some things that are so weird and out there and ambitious that it was in some ways memorable and enjoyable because of that

[00:01:55] But at the same time, it's one of those

[00:01:58] spy movies that

[00:02:00] Have too many twists to them like I'm all up for a good twist keep you on your toes

[00:02:07] but

[00:02:08] You have to walk that fine line of art when are there too many twists to where the story is becoming convoluted

[00:02:16] confusing too overly complicated and

[00:02:19] Whatever else and this sadly is a great example of someone going too far whether it's writing or directing with

[00:02:26] the amount of twists in the plot because I

[00:02:31] Actually enjoyed the first half or so where Bryce Dallas Howard is just following

[00:02:36] Sam Rockwell's character on this wild ride. She's like, hey, I'm not an

[00:02:40] Action star. I'm not a spy like and she's having to watch him

[00:02:45] Basically beat up all these different henchmen and all that and go on this wild journey

[00:02:49] So I was enjoying that and I thought it was interesting

[00:02:52] But I think that once the big twists are revealed

[00:02:56] It becomes way too convoluted and it felt like every five minutes

[00:03:00] There's a new twist to where I was losing track of all right

[00:03:03] What's people's motivation? Who knows who from way back when what are they trying to achieve?

[00:03:09] Like it really messed with my head. I was like, all right. I'm completely lost at times

[00:03:15] but

[00:03:16] Also, what's frustrating is there are two action sequences one with

[00:03:21] Colored smoke and then one on ice skates that are amazing and I've never really seen anything like it

[00:03:27] Like call it goofy call it over the top, but the whole movie is over the top

[00:03:30] So I didn't see it that way, but those sequences are awesome, but they're right back

[00:03:37] To back and they're towards a very end of the movie

[00:03:40] I'm like, why didn't we have more sequences like this with the Matthew Vaughn flair earlier on because

[00:03:47] For the most part the first hour and a half or so

[00:03:51] It's mostly generic fistfights and shootouts. There's not a whole lot

[00:03:56] That's interesting action wise until those sequences, but when those happen. I was like, oh my god. These are amazing

[00:04:02] I love them. They're so ridiculous, but they're so fun

[00:04:05] and

[00:04:06] that's where the Matthew Vaughn isms came out and I

[00:04:10] Was sad that it was like the end of the movie, but

[00:04:14] Putting all that aside

[00:04:15] Good cast. I really like Bryce Dallas Howard and her

[00:04:19] Sort of place in the story in terms of her being completely

[00:04:23] Inexperienced and then learning things and all the twists and turns have come with that

[00:04:26] I think she was a very interesting star and character to have

[00:04:31] Lead this movie. I thought that Henry Cavill had a much bigger part considering keys

[00:04:37] Basically the front of all the posters. He's alright. His hair is a little ridiculous, but I think they make fun of that

[00:04:42] He's not in a whole lot. I don't think that's a twist or a spoiler and

[00:04:46] Sam Rockwell love him always

[00:04:49] Do a leap is just in there randomly like almost no time at all Ariana de Bois really like her and everything

[00:04:55] I love her in West Side Story

[00:04:57] Good score good soundtrack. It looks pretty good. I think some of the effects are a little a little iffy

[00:05:03] But I think with all of Matthew Vaughn films, maybe I'm in the minority here

[00:05:08] I feel like all this effects look a little goofy even when there's a big budget. Maybe that's intentional. Maybe I

[00:05:14] Don't know but I

[00:05:16] Tend to find all this effects look the same so like in Kingsman and some other things

[00:05:20] I don't really see a huge difference. Maybe I'm nuts

[00:05:22] But I think the ending sequence on the ship the final few fights and and all that

[00:05:29] I really enjoyed that part and so the last 20 minutes. I was really engaged but

[00:05:34] Nevertheless, even in those sequences there was twist after twist after twist after twist to where I was like getting mad

[00:05:40] It's like alright

[00:05:41] I don't need this mini twist to

[00:05:43] Think of it as clever or charming or stay engaged

[00:05:48] So I think it does go way too far

[00:05:52] But it sometimes it nails that and other times it doesn't so I appreciate the ambitious nature of it

[00:05:58] And it trying to do something different

[00:06:00] But sadly it does not hit enough points to make this movie amazing

[00:06:05] Maybe it'll grow on me over time. Maybe on rewatch is all piece more things together and it'll go up

[00:06:10] I don't really understand the extreme hate like of all the things that come out now

[00:06:14] I didn't think it was that bad. I really don't it was entertaining. It was

[00:06:19] very stylish and

[00:06:21] Had a good tone and all that so I don't really get that maybe people just wanted to trash it

[00:06:27] But if they wanted to do another one, I'd be up for it

[00:06:30] Even if it's not amazing I'd watch another one because it was

[00:06:34] somewhat refreshing compared to

[00:06:36] Not just seeing another mission possible another James Bond another born or whatever like hey start a new franchise

[00:06:43] See what happens, you know, even if the first one is a bit middle of the road

[00:06:49] But it was still enjoyable. It was too long though too long much too long, but a solid movie

[00:06:57] So that one is a heavy three out of five
