[00:00:00] Hey everybody, please make sure to go ahead and rate, review, and subscribe.

[00:00:07] Thanks.

[00:00:08] 51.

[00:00:09] New film.

[00:00:10] Let's get to Madame Webb.

[00:00:12] This one came out in just the last two months or so.

[00:00:15] It's directed by S.J. Clarkson, stars Dakota Johnson, Sidney Sweeney, Isabella Merced,

[00:00:22] Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Raheem, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and a few others.

[00:00:30] And the synopsis is, Cassandra Webb, is a New York Metropolis paramedic who begins to demonstrate

[00:00:36] signs of clairvoyance.

[00:00:39] Forced to challenge revelations about her past, she needs to safeguard three young women

[00:00:43] from a deadly adversary who wants them destroyed.

[00:00:48] So this one, when it came out as I'm sure most people know, it got destroyed across the

[00:00:55] board critically.

[00:00:56] Did terribly financially was, you know, just a complete disaster.

[00:01:02] And when it comes to movies like that, I am always curious.

[00:01:06] I'm like, all right, is it really as bad as people say I want to try and defend

[00:01:09] it?

[00:01:11] And so I'm usually intrigued or interested in watching movies in that sort of situation.

[00:01:18] Also when it comes to comic book films like this, I was pretty excited when I heard about

[00:01:25] it coming out because I was like, all right, cool.

[00:01:28] There's this one off Spider-Man don't know anything about the story.

[00:01:33] It's got a female lead cast love Dakota Johnson.

[00:01:37] So a lot of things were interesting me.

[00:01:41] But with all that being said, overall it is not a good movie.

[00:01:45] I think there are some parts that are so bad it's good.

[00:01:48] Like I think there's some genuine humor that works for me, whether it's intentional or

[00:01:53] unintentional.

[00:01:54] I think Dakota Johnson is pretty funny.

[00:01:56] And there are a few lines here and there that work in that way.

[00:02:00] For the most part, it does come down to execution because the director has mostly just done TV

[00:02:09] like a lot of Marvel stuff like the defenders Jessica Jones.

[00:02:13] And I don't think she's done many movies at all.

[00:02:16] And then the biggest thing though, in terms of the crew, and it's a perfect example

[00:02:22] as to why the studio system is so misguided is the writer for this movie.

[00:02:29] His credits include Morbius, the Sony Marvel film that did horribly financially critically.

[00:02:36] He also did Gods of Egypt, Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and maybe one or two

[00:02:44] others.

[00:02:45] But none of those movies have done well critically or financially.

[00:02:49] And I just don't understand being a studio executive saying, all right, we need this

[00:02:54] movie to do well.

[00:02:55] We want it to do well so we can start this cinematic universe of sorts.

[00:03:01] And who do we want?

[00:03:02] Oh, let's get the guy who has had six flops or so in a row.

[00:03:07] And I really don't understand, like especially after having just done Morbius, I really

[00:03:12] don't get the logic behind hiring someone like that for this movie other than, all

[00:03:18] right, we know him, let's just hire him.

[00:03:21] Like, all right, here's your eighth strike trying to do better on this one.

[00:03:24] Like, it's no surprise that it didn't do well.

[00:03:26] I don't really blame the director totally.

[00:03:29] It's not that well directed, but that's of the directing and the writing hers is much

[00:03:35] less offensive than the writing because the dialogue is horrible.

[00:03:39] The script is so bland and goofy like the dialogue is just it's hard to even

[00:03:44] explain correctly because it's so nonsensical.

[00:03:47] And also one other big point in terms of what I'm getting really

[00:03:53] frustrated with in superhero films and I don't really have superhero fatigue or

[00:03:59] comic book movie fatigue necessarily.

[00:04:02] I just think that since like in game, there haven't been many good Marvel movies

[00:04:06] and the superhero genre seems to be in a bit of a aimless direction.

[00:04:12] And so I think they just need a more focus and they can get back on track.

[00:04:15] But I'm always up for a good superhero movie.

[00:04:18] I just think most recently have not been very good and the biggest trope,

[00:04:24] I guess you could call it that really frustrates me is similar to Morbius

[00:04:30] and a few others that have not done well is since so many of these are

[00:04:35] flopping for whatever reason, we never actually get to see the characters

[00:04:40] being the heroes or whoever they are like whatever the central character is.

[00:04:45] We see the origin where we see it, you know, two, two and a half hour

[00:04:49] movie of them as regular people discovering that they need to become

[00:04:53] this person or whatever it is.

[00:04:55] And then the movie ends with them as that character.

[00:04:58] And then the movie does horribly critically and financially.

[00:05:01] And so that's just it.

[00:05:02] So basically we just saw a coming of age movie that was very generic,

[00:05:06] which is what this one is.

[00:05:08] And it goes back into how studios seem to be completely oblivious

[00:05:13] as to what people want or like.

[00:05:16] I think that if we started Madam Web at the end of this movie

[00:05:21] and just had little flashbacks into them coming together as a team

[00:05:25] and discovering powers and all that stuff, we could have gotten enough

[00:05:30] to understand who these characters are moving forward

[00:05:33] and seeing them in the world of Madam Web and as heroes

[00:05:38] rather than just seeing them as like teenagers wondering what's going on.

[00:05:42] Because we've seen that a million times in both superhero films and not.

[00:05:47] And so I think both the to reiterate the execution

[00:05:52] and then the very dated, tired production of this movie

[00:05:57] really makes it live up to its reputation, unfortunately.

[00:06:01] Like there are a few good moments in here and there

[00:06:03] and there are a few ideas, a few visuals that I like, but really not a good movie.

[00:06:07] Wanted to love it.

[00:06:08] I wanted to defend it wholeheartedly and say this movie is amazing.

[00:06:12] You're just wrong ahead of its time, but it's none of those things.

[00:06:15] You can still give it a watch.

[00:06:16] I think it's still in some ways entertaining like I was never really bored.

[00:06:21] I was just thinking this is such a bad movie for the most part.

[00:06:26] So if you're curious, check it out.

[00:06:28] I wouldn't rush out to see it.

[00:06:30] But I think in some ways it's so strange that it is worth seeing

[00:06:34] even if you end up not liking it.

[00:06:36] So that one is a two out of five.
