[00:01:00] 41. Let's get to a Pixar animated short film.

[00:01:04] And if it's not already obvious, I am going to be doing all animated short films this week for the dailies.

[00:01:10] Hope that's okay. I love animated shorts as I've already said.

[00:01:13] So figure out my as well. Touch on some that I really like or that I haven't seen.

[00:01:18] So let's get to the blue umbrella.

[00:01:21] This one came out in 2013.

[00:01:24] It's directed by Sacha Unselld, written and directed.

[00:01:29] No cast because it is just moving umbrellas. There's no voices or anything.

[00:01:35] And this one played before Monsters University when it came out in theaters.

[00:01:40] I don't think I saw it probably until the late 2010s.

[00:01:44] I'd heard about it but I just didn't get around to saying until then.

[00:01:49] There's something about this movie. I don't think it's a masterpiece.

[00:01:52] It's not like a five out of five. Oh my God, this is amazing.

[00:01:55] Well, maybe in some ways it is.

[00:01:57] But it's not some genre defining film but there's something about this movie that I love.

[00:02:03] It is so...

[00:02:05] First of all beautiful to watch. The photo-realistic animation is gorgeous.

[00:02:09] The vocals, the music are perfect.

[00:02:12] Her voice is pitch perfect in this. I love the melody and I love her voice.

[00:02:18] The look of the two umbrellas, the red and the blue.

[00:02:22] Fantastic in how they stand out is great.

[00:02:25] The simplicity of the story which Pixar has graded, especially when it comes to these short films

[00:02:32] and such this one, it's two umbrellas being held by people walking down the street on rainy night

[00:02:38] and the two umbrellas have eyes and a face.

[00:02:43] And they see each other and like each other and then they get separated because of traffic and crowds

[00:02:48] and all that and the blue umbrella ends up getting spun around and thinks he's lost her

[00:02:52] and then they reconnect. Spoiler, it's only like five minutes and it's been out for a decade so sorry.

[00:02:57] But I love this movie. Like I was just saying, I've seen it probably three or four times

[00:03:04] and even though it's so simple, it's...you can call it cutesy, charming, crowd-pleaser whatever

[00:03:11] but I think it's done so earnestly and so affectionately and thoughtfully that...

[00:03:18] I don't know, it's hard to say exactly why this one stands out as opposed to others.

[00:03:23] I think it's some of its parts. You know, it's not just one good thing but I really really enjoy it.

[00:03:29] Always puts a smile on my face, always makes me laugh

[00:03:33] and it's also just a good feast for the eyes in terms of the animation. It's amazing.

[00:03:37] So that one is on Disney Plus as well. Do check it out. It's great. I think it's underrated.

[00:03:43] The blue umbrella rocks. And also lastly, the final moment where they do reconnect

[00:03:51] and there's the guy in the blue boots and the umbrella and then the woman in the red. Love that look.

[00:03:58] So that one is a Heavy Four out of five.
