[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: 189! Let's get to the third Transformers film which is Transformers Dark of the
[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Moon. Came out in 2011, done by Bay once again. Stars mostly the same cast except
[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it also has Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who replaces not character but I guess
[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_00]: for the love interest instead of Megan Fox. It also stars Patrick Dempsey,
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and a few others so pretty decent cast. And the
[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: synopsis is the Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the
[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: moon and race against the Decepticons to reach it and learn its secrets.
[00:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Well as I mentioned with the cast the big thing with this movie is before this
[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: one really got into development Megan Fox had compared outwardly publicly
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: working with Michael Bay was like working with Hitler and whether or not
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: she was serious or not there's some dispute on whether she decided to leave
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_00]: because she didn't want to do another movie with him but it's also been brought
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: up Steven Spielberg who is an executive producer on all these movies, fun fact,
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: suggested to Michael Bay to fire her. So hard to say I could see either really
[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: being true but she did not come back which I mean I like Megan Fox in the
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: first two films so in some ways it's unfortunate but not really there's not a
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: lot to that character. I would say it's slightly better than two, not by a whole
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: lot but I think it's a little bit more entertaining a little bit lighter on its
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: feet even some of the Michael Bay isms that I don't like that I've already
[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: discussed are not as prevalent in this maybe that's wrong but I felt like it
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: was watching a lot of these fairly close together.
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: First thing though some bad specifics about this one the deep fake effects
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: with the presidents I think it's JFK, Nixon and then you also see or quote
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: unquote see Obama that stuff looks horrible and I appreciate them trying to
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: do that way before most people were nowadays it's more prevalent whereas
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: back then it wasn't but digitally effects quality really really horrendous
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: like it looks so fake to the utmost degree so I think that opening the
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: historical flashbacks that kind of thing does not hold up whatsoever.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Also I don't mind the idea of Sam Wetwicky trying to find a job and that
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: being the young adult version of him and getting out of college and then
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: also having this crazy past that most people aren't aware of and dealing with
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: that whole dynamic I think that's alright but the office that he gets a
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: job at where he's hired by John Malkovich who I mean he I like John
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Malkovich but the writing for all those characters is so obnoxious
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: and the whole stuff with Ken Jeong is ridiculous and really does not work for
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: me at all. I don't mind Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: who I think I've only seen her in Fury Road besides this maybe one other thing
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but she's okay she's not amazing but as you'd expect the camera is shooting her
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: from absolutely the most flattering sexual angles but come to be expected
[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_00]: with all that I've said. As I mentioned earlier the action is much
[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: stronger specifically the even though it's absurd the Chernobyl sequence with
[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: that serpent transformer moving through the different structures and there's the
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: tentacles I think all that is pretty interesting and some of the POV shots
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: with the different soldiers with the masks on I think that's pretty cool.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Then there's also the towards the middle of the movie there's that highway chase
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: where one of the Transformers hooks on to another one with these chains or
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: something and he's being dragged along almost like he's water skiing or
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: something I think that's a pretty cool idea and then where Bumblebee grabs Sam
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_00]: midair and there's that really epic slow-mo Michael Bay shot. Then more than
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: anything it goes without saying the Chicago sequence at the end does save
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: the movie somewhat even though it takes so long to get there I feel like the
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: middle of this movie really really drags and it feels like so much is
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: happening and there's so much noise but really in actuality not much is
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: happening. One thing that I can say about this movie and really I'd say the whole
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_00]: franchise the Michael Bay ones that I can't not be impressed by is to me in
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: the Chicago sequence the look of Transformers and the ships moving
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: through the city the effects and the lighting and the shading and the
[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_00]: textures are so realistic looking that it actually seems like especially in
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: these wide-angle shots it actually looks like I'm watching a Transformer
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: through Chicago in real time and I'm never thinking oh that's just a special
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: effect I think it's actually it looks completely legit 99% of the time and
[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: when you see the huge Transformers just walking through the streets and you see
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the scale of them in comparison to the buildings like it's really well put
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: together in that way and so I'm always really in awe of that and that's
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: honestly one of the main reasons why that sequence really is good for me.
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Also while I'm on that point of the effects another great-looking sequence
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: that is another perfect example of what I was just saying when Sam Witwicky
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: meets the Transformers at the space shuttle station when you see Optimus
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Prime and Bumblebee out in broad vivid daylight could not believe how good that
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: looked and it's almost how if you go back to the original three Pirates of the
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: General but like on Davy Jones still looks way better than a lot of newer
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: films that come out with the same level of money and all that so kudos to
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael Bay for putting all clearly all of the money in making sure those
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Transformers look spot-on. Some other random things though love
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Leonard Nimoy as the voice for Sentinel Prime and the look of Sentinel Prime is
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: fantastic love it. Francis McDormand and Patrick Dempsey are pretty decent it's
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: at least some star power some good acting quality in these movies that they
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: desperately need. Oh and one thing that I think it's in the previous two at least
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: in the second one I'm pretty sure but in this one at least the idea of
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Transformers when they're injured or hit that they bleed green ooze some people
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard I don't know why this is a thing but like I hear people say that's
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: so unrealistic that's so stupid I'm like really that's the line that's where
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: you're losing me is they shouldn't bleed it's not that we're watching
[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Transformers or anything come from space or whatever it's totally ludicrous.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I personally I think it looks cool the visual of that obviously it's ridiculous
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_00]: but I think visually that works for me I have no problems with that or whatever
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: colors they choose that's fine with me. The desert transformer or he's sort of
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: like I guess he changes into something else that's interesting although it's
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_00]: very much a Mad Max ripoff when you first see it.
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't love how Michael Bay handles some of the alternate history stuff I think
[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a little to me it's a little tasteless like with the moon landing and
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: some of the presidential stuff like it's not that that's bad inherently it's
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: just how he handles it feels very clunky and really not thoughtful in a
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: way or like when you see the Transformers stomping on Abraham
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Lincoln's head from the memorial like it's just stuff that seems really
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: unnecessary I mean it's watchable more watchable than two but still very very
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: forgettable in my opinion and we'll get to four I think I seem to have a pretty
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: different opinion from how people view two and three compared to how they view
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: four and five so I'm looking forward to talking about those very much so that
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: one is a heavy two and a half out of five
