[00:00:00] The waves were mighty and fierce as could be when my lady and I got lost at sea.

[00:00:04] We tossed and turned and we nearly drowned when my brave little boat went down.

[00:00:08] Whoa, whoa, whoa, no, none of that's true. You haven't had a date in a year or two.

[00:00:12] The sea was calm and the sky was clear and you crashed right into the pier.

[00:00:16] Yeah, fine.

[00:00:17] Accidents don't just happen in sea shanties, so Progressive Boat Insurance has you covered.

[00:00:25] Progressive Casualty Insurance Company and affiliates covered subject to policy terms

[00:00:27] and are not available for all boats or in all situations.

[00:00:58] 111. Let's get to The Fall Guy, which is I think still in theaters in some places right now, but it's also on VOD.

[00:01:09] It's directed by David Leitch, who also directed Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and a couple others.

[00:01:18] It stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, and a few others.

[00:01:28] And the synopsis is, a down-and-out stuntman must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend's blockbuster film.

[00:01:37] So I remember when this one first premiered at one of the other festivals and it got huge buzz,

[00:01:42] like this is one of the best movies of the year so far, like one of the best popcorn flicks in a long, long time.

[00:01:48] And being a huge, huge Ryan Gosling fan, I also love Emily Blunt, but Ryan Gosling being one of my all-time favorite actors,

[00:01:56] and I think he's really in his prime right now, and so I was very, very excited to see it.

[00:02:02] And David Leitch, if I'm saying that right, sorry if I'm not, I don't think there's a movie of his that I love,

[00:02:08] but I do like this trend of stuntmen becoming directors.

[00:02:13] Like for example, the guy who directed the Extraction movies, the John Wick movies,

[00:02:18] it's kind of a nice new take on a vision for a movie and for a director where they clearly have a sense for action.

[00:02:27] They're not just getting 30 smart people around them, they have their own experience, their own ideas,

[00:02:34] and they're now able to take command and choreograph the action the way they want to.

[00:02:39] And so I think, at least in all those ones I've named, those are some of the better action movies,

[00:02:43] choreography-wise, of the last few years, of the last decade.

[00:02:49] And his other films, like for example, Deadpool 2, I like Deadpool 2, I thought Hobson Shaw was okay,

[00:02:55] I liked Bullet Train, so I think he definitely is interesting.

[00:02:59] I don't know if he's ever going to be a best director ever sort of guy,

[00:03:03] but he seems to always pick interesting action films and stories, with this one being the best example of that.

[00:03:11] So there were a lot of reasons why I wanted to see it, and I like Aaron Taylor-Johnson as well,

[00:03:15] I think he's really grown as an actor.

[00:03:17] And also going into this, I've gotten to the point where I'm so tired and frustrated by trailers

[00:03:24] and giving the entire movie away, and the coolest shots away, especially when it comes to action movies,

[00:03:30] that I've basically avoided all trailers unless I'm in a movie theater.

[00:03:34] I might watch 10 seconds of something and say, alright, that looks cool, and then move on.

[00:03:38] I'm really done watching trailers if I can help it.

[00:03:41] And so this one was the same way, I was like, alright, this seems interesting,

[00:03:45] seems like it's going to have a lot of awesome stuff in it,

[00:03:48] I'm going to save it for the actual experience of watching it.

[00:03:50] So I only watched a couple little clips of the movie and that was it.

[00:03:53] And I think overall, it is one that will continue to grow on me.

[00:03:58] I thought overall it was quite good, one of my favorites of the year so far.

[00:04:02] Not a masterpiece, but I think as reviews have been saying,

[00:04:07] for whatever reason, whether it's a combination of direction, of cast, of writing,

[00:04:12] this is definitely one of the most refreshing, enjoyable, kind of original action movies,

[00:04:20] some are blockbusters that I've seen in a long time.

[00:04:23] And that's another reason why I think Ryan Gosling is just killing it right now,

[00:04:27] and has been for a while.

[00:04:28] He just seems to pick original sorts of stories,

[00:04:32] and that is really across his whole career.

[00:04:36] But I think this, Barbie, the nice guys, I don't know if it's partly his agent or what,

[00:04:42] but I think he just has a great eye for picking cool projects.

[00:04:46] And I think that one thing I was, I don't know if disappointment is the right word,

[00:04:51] and this comes with not having watched the trailer, the full trailer,

[00:04:55] is I knew it was about a stuntman who's down on his luck and trying to get back in the business,

[00:05:00] and that to me was by far the best part of the movie.

[00:05:04] I loved him being on set, doing the stunts, sometimes messing up,

[00:05:09] trying to get this girl, which is played by Emily Blunt,

[00:05:12] and that part of the movie was pitch perfect.

[00:05:15] I love the Taylor Swift moment, all that stuff is awesome.

[00:05:19] And I think that as it goes on and it gets into this more overarching criminal plot,

[00:05:26] which I won't really spoil too much, I didn't dislike it,

[00:05:29] but I was a little disappointed that we spent a lot of time, occasionally,

[00:05:34] away from the stunt work world and on the movie set.

[00:05:38] And so that was something that did sometimes cause me to drift off

[00:05:46] and not be totally engaged.

[00:05:49] I think Ryan Gosling, I love Emily Blunt and I think she's great in this, absolutely,

[00:05:54] but Ryan Gosling is pitch perfect in this.

[00:05:57] His charisma is off the charts, his sort of swagger and stuntman physicality,

[00:06:04] it really worked perfectly across the boards.

[00:06:08] He was amazing in it, and he has that effortless Ryan Gosling feel,

[00:06:12] but he is so good. And the action stuff too, he killed it in that.

[00:06:16] So I was a big, big fan of him, one of his best of recent years for sure.

[00:06:21] It looks really good, and I think this is his most well-directed movie as well.

[00:06:25] I think there's really something interesting about how he shoots certain sequences,

[00:06:30] not just the action, but there's a very playfulness and refreshing movement

[00:06:37] to the camera in not just action, but in normal, quiet, dialogue-driven scenes.

[00:06:43] So I really, really enjoyed it.

[00:06:45] I think it's one that I'm very excited to go back to as well.

[00:06:48] As I said, it could maybe someday be a 5 out of 5 perhaps,

[00:06:52] but it's one that I could see myself showing a lot of people.

[00:06:56] It just has a lot of cool, whoa, holy crap moments.

[00:07:01] And I think the ending act, the third act, action sequence is awesome

[00:07:06] with the car and the chase and the twists and turns.

[00:07:09] That stuff is great, and the helicopter I think it is.

[00:07:12] So there's a lot of great moments in this that it's absolutely worth watching.

[00:07:16] And I would try and watch it on the biggest screen that you have.

[00:07:19] So yeah, it's very good. Check it out.

[00:07:23] That is a heavy, heavy 4 out of 5.

[00:08:16] Imagine creating all that in under 30 seconds.
