[00:00:30] 101. Let's get to the second Avengers film which is Avengers Age of Ultron which came

[00:00:36] out in 2015. Once again written and directed by Joss Whedon along with the cast from the

[00:00:43] last one also Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Hayley Atwell,

[00:00:50] Aegis Elba, a few others. And the synopsis is when Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to

[00:00:57] jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and

[00:01:02] it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his

[00:01:07] terrible plan.

[00:01:10] So like the first one I vividly remember when this one came out there's like the midnight

[00:01:14] screenings I think and it was a huge deal because it was the second Avengers movie and

[00:01:18] Marvel was really I'd say in their prime at this point and we weren't really in superhero

[00:01:24] fatigue or anything yet we were like right in the sweet spot of superhero films blowing

[00:01:30] up and doing really well and they were pretty much all consistently really good at least

[00:01:34] in the MCU. And I've seen the movie a handful of times over the years probably four or five

[00:01:41] and I think when I saw it for the first time I thought it was better than the first and

[00:01:46] maybe that just had to do with the hype or you know seeing with a huge crowd and all

[00:01:51] that I don't know. But all these viewings removed and more time to think about it I

[00:01:58] think it's by far the worst Avengers film. It really it's still watchable but there are

[00:02:05] a lot of things that do not hold up and it's honestly a bit of a slog to watch sometimes

[00:02:11] like I think all the character stuff still really works you know the sequences with

[00:02:18] Natasha and Bruce Banner like Taming Hulk and the flashbacks with her character the

[00:02:22] death of the Avengers dream with Iron Man like there are a lot of good one on one sequences

[00:02:29] or the wood cutting scene with Captain America like all that stuff like there's a lot of

[00:02:33] good dialogue driven emotional moments in the movie that do keep it afloat but the biggest

[00:02:41] thing as opposed to the first whereas I think the first like I said the third act action

[00:02:46] sequence is the best part of the movie I think it's the opposite for this. I think

[00:02:52] once well the best part is probably the Somalia I think it's in Somalia that warehouse attack

[00:02:58] with Ultron that's great but everything with the highway sequence and then the final Sokovia

[00:03:04] action piece is so long it's so repetitive it's bombastic it's tiresome and it feels

[00:03:12] like it just won't ever end and so really when it gets to that point in the movie I'm

[00:03:17] just like checked out and I want to give it more benefit of the doubt and there are still

[00:03:21] a few moments here and there within those sequences that I enjoy but it's the big picture

[00:03:27] that really brings it down so that's by far the biggest problem with the movie that does

[00:03:32] not hold up but putting aside like action sequences or scenes that I like the best part

[00:03:38] of the movie by far character wise is Ultron that's easily one of the best Marvel villains

[00:03:45] superhero villains that we've ever had in my opinion the writing is great the performance

[00:03:50] is amazing the look of the character is great like it's a fantastic character that fully

[00:03:56] fully holds up and so whenever that character is on screen I'm engaged for a variety of

[00:04:01] reasons but he's really not in it enough I do like though the creation sequence where

[00:04:07] it's sort of partially made Ultron I love that design and then his recruitment of Aaron

[00:04:14] Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen which that gets to another point performance wise

[00:04:20] most Marvel movies are pretty good and I don't really blame either of those two actors for

[00:04:26] their performances in this but they're by far the weakest links and I think mainly

[00:04:30] it's the accent it's just overdone it's not consistent and I'm glad that whether it was

[00:04:37] Elizabeth Olsen's choice or the studio's choice I'm glad they pretty much lost it or at least

[00:04:44] toned it down after this movie because knowing who they are and how they actually talk not

[00:04:49] to say the actors can't do accents but they just sound so phony and it's goofy and just

[00:04:54] does not work so not a big fan of those characters and to be honest I'm glad that they did kill

[00:04:59] Quicksilver off not anything against Aaron Taylor Johnson but I don't see that character

[00:05:04] really working I think he works a lot better in X-Men some other good moments though the

[00:05:10] party sequence at the beginning where they're trying to lift Thor's hammer hilarious and

[00:05:16] that goes into what I was saying in the first review where Joss Whedon's comedy hits in

[00:05:21] both of these movies very consistently so always really really appreciate that the Hydra

[00:05:27] snow mountain attack I love that's probably one of the best sequences in the movie action

[00:05:34] wise and it looks great I mean visually the whole movie looks very very good there aren't

[00:05:40] any real issues with effect quality or even the production design is a lot better in this

[00:05:46] one than it was in the first I like the updates on the characters which that reminds me I didn't

[00:05:51] bring it up in the first movies review aside from the quality of the costume design itself

[00:05:57] I'm so glad they updated the characters designs at least most of them for this movie and so

[00:06:03] on so forth because characters like Thor in the first one just do not like the design

[00:06:08] the costume the hair it just does not look very good in retrospect but I'm really glad

[00:06:13] that they improved all of that for this movie so that's a plus I just really do find the

[00:06:19] pacing the length the structure of the movie to not really work much anymore I can still

[00:06:26] pop it on you know and get a few nice moments here and there with characters or a few visually

[00:06:32] great moments but not when I ever really feel the need to go back to aside from doing

[00:06:36] a review like this or a marathon or something so bit of a shame because I remember very

[00:06:43] fondly how much I loved this movie when I first saw it and I had a really really good

[00:06:49] opinion of it for quite some time and then I revisited it a couple of years ago I was

[00:06:54] like oof maybe not so yeah anyways that one is a light three out of five
