[00:00:11] Hello everybody, welcome back to the Film Buds Podcast. This is episode number 295 and my name is Henry.

[00:00:19] My name is Al and it's been a while.

[00:00:22] Yeah, so this is our first Buds episode as I guess we're calling it now since I also do the dailies.

[00:00:29] Where you've been on our last one was the Mean Girls one, I believe. And so thanks as always for joining us.

[00:00:35] We're going to be doing an animated double feature this time doing Inside Out 2.

[00:00:41] And then Despicable Me 4. And then other stuff we watched catching up with what's been going on since I don't really talk about that much in the other reviews.

[00:00:52] So yeah, well, how you doing?

[00:00:57] Probably have not missed me.

[00:00:58] No, they have for sure.

[00:01:01] I mean, what's been going on with you? I don't know.

[00:01:04] I mean, I mean just I've just been working a lot, you know, things have been a little nuts and

[00:01:10] I guess in terms of since you've been on last.

[00:01:14] I don't know if there's been anything crazy that's happened with us here, you know, or personal life.

[00:01:20] Yeah, not really. I mean, I

[00:01:23] a few things, I guess.

[00:01:26] If you have been listening to past episodes where I have been in those episodes,

[00:01:31] you know that I am a photographer and I own my own business.

[00:01:37] And recently I've gotten published three times in a photography magazine.

[00:01:44] It's called the photographer, photographer, her magazine.

[00:01:52] It's for women photographers out there.

[00:01:55] Or I guess I should say female.

[00:01:57] I don't know. I guess both make sense.

[00:01:59] I'm just trying to be whatever.

[00:02:01] Anyway, I overthink everything I say.

[00:02:05] Sorry.

[00:02:06] And I decided to start my very own photography magazine for military spouse photographers.

[00:02:15] So, you know, a little different has that little, you know, kind of niche.

[00:02:20] Yeah. And I I've gotten a couple submissions already.

[00:02:23] I'm going to be doing four issues a year.

[00:02:26] So it's not so overwhelming because I think every month I would like absolutely go insane.

[00:02:34] So I'm doing that. I'm going to be doing a fall, winter, spring and summer issue.

[00:02:39] Each issue is going to have a feature photographer and then two themes that you could submit to.

[00:02:47] So if you're a military spouse photographer out there, feel free to submit to the Mill Shutter magazine.

[00:02:55] See what I did there? Mill Spouse.

[00:02:57] I did.

[00:02:57] Mill Shutter. Yeah.

[00:02:59] So I've been working hard on starting that up.

[00:03:02] And also I'm working.

[00:03:05] I'm in the process of making some photography and podcast merch.

[00:03:12] So stay tuned.

[00:03:14] There might be some film buds merch for you all to get your grubby hands on.

[00:03:19] Whoa.

[00:03:20] And if, you know, you like photography merch, if you're a photographer, once I have that published and everything and ready to go,

[00:03:29] I will come on here and shamelessly plug it.

[00:03:33] So podcast and photography merch is all I wear.

[00:03:38] Hey, it's all I wear, too.

[00:03:40] Yeah.

[00:03:40] I mean, to sessions, I wear a custom shirt I got from Etsy.

[00:03:45] So that's going to be me selling those.

[00:03:48] So I'm really excited about it.

[00:03:50] That's cool.

[00:03:51] Well, other than that, just in case you're new or if you don't know, we do have a YouTube page where everything is uploaded.

[00:03:59] And then also our premium podcast page, which is film buds dot bank camp dot com.

[00:04:04] And all that is in the show notes where we have extra stuff and all that.

[00:04:07] So check that out.

[00:04:09] If you have not yet subscribe and you haven't.

[00:04:11] What are you doing?

[00:04:12] Yeah.

[00:04:13] And so, yeah, please do all that.

[00:04:15] Yeah.

[00:04:15] Subscribe, rate, review all the good stuff.

[00:04:17] Share with your friends.

[00:04:18] So just a little shameless plug there.

[00:04:22] Well, should we get into animation?

[00:04:25] Yeah.

[00:04:26] Yeah.

[00:04:26] I mean, I guess I don't really have anything else going on.

[00:04:29] I've just been grinding it out.

[00:04:32] Yeah.

[00:04:32] But yeah, I just honestly, I just needed a few things to keep me busy during slow season because

[00:04:39] during slow season, I feel like I'm really fucking bored and I have nothing to do.

[00:04:45] And yeah.

[00:04:47] Yeah.

[00:04:48] All right.

[00:04:49] Well, let's turn this thing inside out.

[00:04:52] Let's talk inside out too.

[00:04:54] I'm ready to get anxious.

[00:04:56] Yeah.

[00:04:57] Well, we do have a clip as always.

[00:04:59] So take a listen.

[00:05:01] I am truly sorry.

[00:05:03] I was so looking forward to working with you guys.

[00:05:06] What do you think you're doing?

[00:05:07] Get off me.

[00:05:08] Riley's life is more complex now.

[00:05:10] It requires more sophisticated emotions than all of you.

[00:05:12] You just aren't what she needs anymore, Joy.

[00:05:16] How dare you, madam.

[00:05:18] You can't just bottle us up.

[00:05:20] Oh, that's a great idea.

[00:05:24] It's not forever.

[00:05:25] It's just until Riley makes varsity or until she turns 18 or maybe forever.

[00:05:29] I don't know.

[00:05:29] We'll have to see.

[00:05:30] Bye.

[00:05:30] Bye.

[00:05:34] So inside out too, which now has become the highest grossing animated film of all time

[00:05:40] is directed by Kelsey Mann, stars the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawk, Kensington Tallman,

[00:05:51] Liza Lapera, Tony Hale.

[00:05:53] So they changed some of the main emotion voices.

[00:05:58] Louis Black, a few others, Phyllis Smith.

[00:06:01] And the synopsis is a sequel that features Riley entering puberty and experiencing brand

[00:06:08] new, more complex emotions as a result.

[00:06:12] So yeah, this one is, of course, a sequel to the first one, which came out in 2015, I think,

[00:06:20] sometime around then, which that one still remains one of my favorite Pixar films ever.

[00:06:25] So I was definitely excited to see this one.

[00:06:28] I was a little upset that the original director wasn't coming back, but still always up for

[00:06:33] Pixar and like the concept and all.

[00:06:36] Did you experience joy?

[00:06:39] I experienced all the emotions.

[00:06:41] Yeah.

[00:06:42] So now since it's been a while since you've been on, would you like to kick off?

[00:06:47] Sure.

[00:06:48] Yeah, I really liked the sequel.

[00:06:50] I, you know, it wasn't as good as the original because, you know, Pixar finally had an original,

[00:06:59] you know, Disney, you know, finally had an original idea other than all the remakes they're

[00:07:05] doing.

[00:07:07] And the sequel was very interesting.

[00:07:11] I guess as a woman who was a former girl going through puberty, I could relate to a lot

[00:07:20] of a lot of it.

[00:07:22] And I have a lot of anxiety.

[00:07:25] So that, you know, orange bitch is always living in my head rent free, has all the emotions

[00:07:33] trapped away probably.

[00:07:35] But I honestly, I thought it was pretty realistic.

[00:07:39] And I didn't know this until I think like the day before we went to see Inside Out 2 in

[00:07:47] theaters.

[00:07:49] They actually interviewed a couple of like 12 year old girls so they can, they could get

[00:07:57] like the emotions right and everything.

[00:07:59] Yeah.

[00:07:59] So that was interesting.

[00:08:01] And I think that's why it was so relatable.

[00:08:05] It was also really sad, you know, just as like, you know, every Pixar movie is, it's, you

[00:08:12] know, great and also sad.

[00:08:15] Bittersweet.

[00:08:17] I liked the new emotions.

[00:08:20] I like the boredom emotion.

[00:08:24] Honestly, I don't really have any complaints.

[00:08:26] It just wasn't as good as the original.

[00:08:30] But I think they did the best they could do.

[00:08:33] I don't like that.

[00:08:34] They replaced the voice actors.

[00:08:36] Yeah.

[00:08:36] I don't know the reason for that.

[00:08:38] And fear.

[00:08:39] Fear.

[00:08:40] Yeah.

[00:08:40] Yeah.

[00:08:41] I don't really understand that, but I didn't really notice it.

[00:08:44] Like if I watch them probably, you know, in order, like right after another, I would probably

[00:08:49] notice that, but not a big issue for me.

[00:08:53] It was interesting seeing Disney doing like a movie with like an anxiety attack in it.

[00:09:01] I, I felt that that was pretty spot on to how I feel when I have an anxiety attack, just

[00:09:07] like kind of my mind, like running in circles, um, endlessly and not being able to stop it.

[00:09:16] I rated it three and a half, I think.

[00:09:20] Well, I, like I said, I really liked the first one.

[00:09:24] So I was very excited for this one.

[00:09:26] And I, overall, I really liked it.

[00:09:27] It's for sure one of my favorites of the year so far, or, and especially when it comes to animation.

[00:09:34] I thought that the big thing with this was anxiety, as you said, and this is, might as

[00:09:39] well call this the age of anxiety because everybody has anxiety in a lot of different

[00:09:43] ways.

[00:09:43] And it's, you can't, you could throw a rock and hit somebody that has anxiety.

[00:09:48] And so I think that it's clever, but also very relevant, so to speak, in terms of portraying

[00:09:56] that on screen, especially in a kid's movie, because what's good about this one and the

[00:10:02] first one is, I'm not a parent, but I would say this is a good film to show your children

[00:10:08] because it allows you to see how emotions are processed.

[00:10:12] Yeah, I agree.

[00:10:13] In all sorts of forms.

[00:10:15] And so that's honestly the biggest praise that I could give it because it does it pretty

[00:10:21] successfully in that way.

[00:10:22] And so I really liked that.

[00:10:24] And I thought everything with the anxiety character, I thought her performance played by Maya Hawk,

[00:10:29] who's the daughter of Ethan Hawk.

[00:10:31] She was also played in Stranger Things as Robin, if you already know.

[00:10:36] Yeah.

[00:10:36] So she was very good.

[00:10:38] And I thought that the anxiety attack, not to spoil too much, but the one towards the

[00:10:44] end where it's spinning around the control panel in her mind.

[00:10:50] I think that was accurate as much as I could relate to that.

[00:10:55] Yeah, no other emotion could go to the control panel.

[00:10:58] Yeah.

[00:10:59] I thought all that was good.

[00:11:00] I thought the stuff with the hockey camp was really interesting in her, as is oftentimes

[00:11:07] with kids, where you turn on your friends, you see someone quote unquote cooler or who

[00:11:11] accepts you.

[00:11:12] And so then suddenly you can turn on a friend, a family member, whoever, just to be a part of

[00:11:18] a group.

[00:11:19] And then also her anxiety getting the better of her when she gets so anxious, she has to

[00:11:24] start early and she wears herself out before the actual practice or game begins.

[00:11:29] And I can definitely relate to that, having that sort of mentality, as I'm sure a lot could.

[00:11:36] The animation, of course, is amazing.

[00:11:38] Looks really good.

[00:11:40] The score is good.

[00:11:43] And I'm trying to think of some other things.

[00:11:45] I thought the main girl who is like the cool girl, I thought I really liked that character

[00:11:50] and all that.

[00:11:52] Yeah.

[00:11:53] So I think they could honestly continue this, although I guess she is, was she in high school

[00:11:58] or middle school?

[00:11:59] Middle school.

[00:11:59] Middle school.

[00:12:00] I think eighth grade.

[00:12:01] I mean, honestly.

[00:12:02] No, they're going into high school.

[00:12:03] Sorry.

[00:12:04] Yeah.

[00:12:04] So if you could, if you want to tap on a good market, go to high school talking about

[00:12:08] emotions there.

[00:12:09] Jesus.

[00:12:10] So I think you could easily do an inside out three and tackle quite a.

[00:12:14] Yeah.

[00:12:14] But I feel like the next one will probably be rated like PG-13.

[00:12:17] Yes.

[00:12:18] You know what I mean?

[00:12:18] The next one will be like horniness or something.

[00:12:20] Yeah.

[00:12:21] Or just who knows.

[00:12:23] That's the next emotion that pops up.

[00:12:25] Yeah.

[00:12:25] Horny.

[00:12:26] Yeah.

[00:12:27] So I thought, yeah, overall, it is really worth watching.

[00:12:30] Still, it doesn't have the originality of the first one, of course.

[00:12:33] But pretty good.

[00:12:35] And it's one that I think I will want to go back and rewatch on a frequent basis, just

[00:12:42] in terms of getting my own emotions in check.

[00:12:45] You know, we all need that.

[00:12:46] It's one of those movies where like it's a great story, but also teaches your kids something

[00:12:54] because, you know, learning emotions and how to identify emotions are that's really important.

[00:13:02] And I like when I was a teacher, I tried to incorporate that as much as I could and learn

[00:13:11] how to teach them more about emotions and how to identify their own emotions.

[00:13:18] So I really appreciate stuff like this.

[00:13:21] Yeah.

[00:13:22] Not to get all educational and all that.

[00:13:25] We don't need that here.

[00:13:25] Well, here, let me straighten my tie, you know.

[00:13:28] Yeah.

[00:13:30] All right.

[00:13:31] Well, if it's three and a half for you, it's a four and a half for me.

[00:13:33] Okay.

[00:13:34] Wow.

[00:13:35] Yeah.

[00:13:36] Hmm.

[00:13:37] All right.

[00:13:37] Well.

[00:13:38] Rated that one with all your feelings, huh?

[00:13:40] Yeah, I did.

[00:13:42] Yeah.

[00:13:42] So, all right.

[00:13:43] Well, you want to do the letterboxed reviews?

[00:13:46] Sure.

[00:13:46] So, yeah, we always do a letterboxed review, like, in terms of just random people who...

[00:13:50] Well, we usually do, like, two to three.

[00:13:52] Yeah.

[00:13:53] So, if you want yours reviewed, feel free to comment it in whatever way.

[00:13:56] We're both on letterboxed, and that is in the show notes, so follow us there.

[00:13:59] Thank you to all those who have been following both of us in whatever way that was achieved.

[00:14:05] So...

[00:14:05] You can go first here.

[00:14:07] All right.

[00:14:07] So, the first one we have here is from Noan, and rated three out of five.

[00:14:14] Well, a lot of likes there, buddy.

[00:14:16] Pretty impressive.

[00:14:19] Says, of course, the ending is happy, after all, and not because it's a Pixar animation,

[00:14:25] but because she doesn't have divorced parents.

[00:14:29] Heavy stuff.

[00:14:31] Yeah.

[00:14:31] Yeah.

[00:14:32] Maybe that's something they could tackle in high school, you know?

[00:14:35] That would be interesting.

[00:14:36] I mean, that actually might be a good lesson for children, to be honest.

[00:14:40] Anyways.

[00:14:42] The Film Drunk.

[00:14:45] Read it.

[00:14:46] Love, love the name.

[00:14:47] The Film Drunk.

[00:14:49] Rated it four stars.

[00:14:51] And said, sat next to a dad who brought his daughter, saw him wipe away his tears on his

[00:14:58] shoulder, then grabbed his daughter's hand until the credits.

[00:15:01] Sadness had full control of my console at that moment.

[00:15:04] Whoa.

[00:15:07] All right.

[00:15:08] Last one here.

[00:15:09] Four and a half out of five from Zoe Rose Bryant.

[00:15:13] Says, for the love of God, just give the kid antidepressants.

[00:15:19] I mean...

[00:15:20] Honestly, I would like to see the next one.

[00:15:22] I wouldn't start that young, but...

[00:15:23] How antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication affect your emotions and your brain.

[00:15:30] That would be really interesting.

[00:15:31] Maybe in the high school one.

[00:15:33] Maybe.

[00:15:34] Divorce and antidepressants.

[00:15:36] Maybe when they get into chemistry class, they'll start getting into all that.

[00:15:40] Anyways.

[00:15:41] All right.

[00:15:41] Well, as always, send your reviews our way.

[00:15:44] Happy to read them.

[00:15:46] And always looking for good ones.

[00:15:48] So let's get to the other review, which is Despicable Me 4.

[00:15:54] Really pulling out all the original films this time.

[00:15:57] And we have a clip as well.

[00:15:59] So take a listen.

[00:16:00] All right.

[00:16:00] Let me get my overalls.

[00:16:03] We aren't supposed to lie.

[00:16:06] Don't think of it as lying.

[00:16:08] Think of it as high stakes pretending.

[00:16:11] Well, I'm not going to.

[00:16:13] Ah, just a little white lie.

[00:16:15] Nope.

[00:16:16] Agnes, as your father, I command you to lie.

[00:16:19] No.

[00:16:20] Yes, lie.

[00:16:21] Mm-mm.

[00:16:22] You are walking on thin ice, little lady.

[00:16:25] Huh.

[00:16:27] Why can't you be more like your sister, Edith?

[00:16:30] She lies all the time.

[00:16:32] No, I don't.

[00:16:32] See?

[00:16:33] See?

[00:16:34] She's lying right now.

[00:16:35] Beautifully.

[00:16:36] I'm my dad.

[00:16:38] All right.

[00:16:39] So Despicable Me 4 is also now available for digital purchase and demand.

[00:16:45] It's directed by Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage.

[00:16:50] Sorry, I don't know if that's the right way to say it, but I think so.

[00:16:52] And I think Chris Renaud has directed most of them.

[00:16:56] Stars Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Joey King, Will Ferrell,

[00:17:01] Sofia Vergara, Chris Renaud, Miranda Cosgrove, a few others.

[00:17:08] Stephen Colbert's in it?

[00:17:09] Huh.

[00:17:09] Who did he play?

[00:17:11] Steve Coogan as well?

[00:17:12] Geez.

[00:17:13] Perry Prescott.

[00:17:14] I don't remember who that is.

[00:17:15] Is that the fancy guy?

[00:17:16] I don't know.

[00:17:18] The synopsis is,

[00:17:29] Well, I should say this is a bit of a tradition for us because we saw Minions, The Rise of

[00:17:46] the Night Before We Got Married.

[00:17:48] Why are we actually admitting that on social media?

[00:17:53] And then we, so since it happens right around the time of our anniversary every two years,

[00:17:59] which we just had our two-year wedding anniversary, we said, all right, well, I guess we got to go

[00:18:03] see it from now on every two years.

[00:18:05] And so this lined up perfectly with our schedule.

[00:18:09] Do you want me to start this time?

[00:18:11] Yeah, you can start.

[00:18:11] So I loved the Despicable Me films.

[00:18:15] I love the Minions.

[00:18:16] I know some people hate the Minions and all that stuff, but I love this world.

[00:18:20] And even the lesser films, I like a lot, but I truly find the Minions hilarious at this

[00:18:26] point in my life.

[00:18:27] Sorry to say that, but it's true.

[00:18:31] And so I, of course, was looking forward to it for a number of reasons.

[00:18:35] And I just like illumination entertainment in general.

[00:18:38] So that's another thing.

[00:18:40] And overall, I liked it for sure.

[00:18:42] It's not best of the year.

[00:18:44] It's in the lower rankings of the franchise for sure.

[00:18:49] It's still enjoyable.

[00:18:50] It's very colorful.

[00:18:52] But I think the biggest issue that I found is that now that the Minions have their own

[00:18:58] franchise, this one feels sort of confused because like in the first two, we had Gru and the

[00:19:06] Minions spending equal time in the movie for the most part.

[00:19:10] And now that the Minions have their own movie where it's all Minions all the time, they say,

[00:19:15] all right, or at least this is my theory.

[00:19:17] They're like, all right, we need to tone down the Minions time in the main franchise so

[00:19:22] it doesn't seem repetitive.

[00:19:23] And I feel like that's kind of a problem because even though I love Gru and I love Steve Carell

[00:19:29] and Kristen Wiig, the family just isn't as interesting or as funny.

[00:19:34] And so it seems like they're now kind of screwing themselves over because they have to find a way

[00:19:42] to give everybody equal time in their own franchise.

[00:19:45] But it doesn't always work.

[00:19:49] But got some good humor.

[00:19:51] I like some people hate Will Ferrell as the villain.

[00:19:53] I thought he was fine.

[00:19:55] And everybody else is good.

[00:19:58] It's one I can throw on.

[00:20:00] I don't think I'll ever love it.

[00:20:02] But it's worth watching if you like this sort of thing.

[00:20:06] What'd you think?

[00:20:07] To be honest, this was my least favorite.

[00:20:10] I feel like it was just a lot of subplots pulled together.

[00:20:16] I feel like it didn't feel like just one major storyline.

[00:20:21] It felt like a lot of little storylines put together.

[00:20:25] And like you were saying, I did not enjoy the fact that the Minions were not in it because

[00:20:32] that's the most enjoyable part of the movies for me.

[00:20:37] And there needs to be like a happy medium.

[00:20:40] It would be like making another Coraline movie and only having like the normal bland world

[00:20:51] and not the, you know, other mother world.

[00:20:54] Sure.

[00:20:57] In total, there was probably 10 minutes worth of Minion stuff.

[00:21:01] And they didn't really interact with Rue and the kids.

[00:21:05] Like that's the most like funny part.

[00:21:07] It's true.

[00:21:07] Them interacting with the kids.

[00:21:09] They're kind of in their own little sub quest.

[00:21:11] Yeah.

[00:21:11] And then I think they're trying to make up for it with Rue Jr.

[00:21:16] and like being like kind of like a funny kind of character.

[00:21:22] And honestly, the baby was just annoying the whole time.

[00:21:27] You know, he was just being mean and nasty the entire time.

[00:21:32] Yeah.

[00:21:32] And then they were trying to also make up for it with the like new character Maxine.

[00:21:38] Right.

[00:21:39] Yeah.

[00:21:39] So just overall, not great.

[00:21:43] I hope the next one on our fourth anniversary.

[00:21:48] Which will probably be Minions 3.

[00:21:50] That'd be my guess.

[00:21:51] Because if they interchange it.

[00:21:53] Well, then maybe six.

[00:21:56] Planning ahead here.

[00:21:57] Yeah.

[00:21:57] Yeah.

[00:21:58] I hope it's a happy medium.

[00:22:01] Because I feel like they could still do Despicable Me with the Minions and have a happy medium.

[00:22:07] And also have a full like Minions, you know, franchise.

[00:22:12] But like the storyline with like the Will Ferrell character turning into like a cockroach.

[00:22:18] That was strange.

[00:22:19] Was really weird.

[00:22:21] And I feel like it was part of a fever dream.

[00:22:24] And then turning the baby into a cockroach.

[00:22:27] Like it was just really.

[00:22:28] It was just really weird.

[00:22:30] I don't know who came up with that.

[00:22:33] But I think the best part of the movie, spoiler alert, was the ending where all the villains were in the jail.

[00:22:40] And we saw like all the villains from all the other movies.

[00:22:44] And they were singing Tears for Fears.

[00:22:48] Right.

[00:22:48] Something.

[00:22:49] Oh, yeah.

[00:22:49] I've forgotten about that.

[00:22:50] Yeah.

[00:22:50] That was.

[00:22:51] Yeah.

[00:22:52] And the song at the very beginning was pretty great as well.

[00:22:55] Hmm.

[00:22:56] I did enjoy the animation because I also am a loom head, lumination head.

[00:23:03] Hmm.

[00:23:03] Because I really love how defined the animation is.

[00:23:09] So, I mean, if you don't.

[00:23:11] If you don't like the story line, at least you can appreciate the bright, bright and happy animations.

[00:23:18] Look at all the pretty colors.

[00:23:19] Right.

[00:23:21] But yeah, I mean, I would maybe throw this on while I'm editing and just kind of have in the background.

[00:23:27] It's one of those.

[00:23:28] Yeah.

[00:23:28] Yeah.

[00:23:28] But it's not, you know, it's not something I would throw on and just watch with my full attention again.

[00:23:34] Yeah.

[00:23:34] I hate to say it.

[00:23:35] Yeah.

[00:23:35] I did like the super minions, though.

[00:23:38] The supercharged.

[00:23:39] Now, they needed to have more of that.

[00:23:41] Yeah.

[00:23:42] I did like when they found, I think, if I'm not mistaken, the minion who was a beekeeper in Austria.

[00:23:49] Yeah.

[00:23:49] Blowing the stuff on the beehives and stuff.

[00:23:52] That was good.

[00:23:52] But like, I just wish there was more of that and him sliding on the cheese or whatever that was, like snowboarding.

[00:23:58] Yeah.

[00:23:58] I can't remember exactly.

[00:23:59] It's all.

[00:24:00] I know it was probably a parody of like the Avengers, right?

[00:24:04] The Avengers are Fantastic Four or something.

[00:24:06] Yeah.

[00:24:07] It kind of seemed like that.

[00:24:08] Because there was there was like a rock minion.

[00:24:12] And so it kind of seemed.

[00:24:14] Fantastic.

[00:24:14] Yeah.

[00:24:15] Yeah.

[00:24:15] Remind me of Fantastic Four.

[00:24:17] Yes.

[00:24:17] All that was good.

[00:24:18] I like that.

[00:24:18] Yeah.

[00:24:18] I just wish there was more.

[00:24:20] I'll still always watch the Despicable Me movies, even if I don't like them or whatever.

[00:24:26] I still there's just something about it that I find kind of comforting and enjoyable and

[00:24:30] charming and feel good.

[00:24:31] So they have that going for it.

[00:24:33] And the music's always like really happy and puts you in a good mood.

[00:24:36] Yeah, for sure.

[00:24:37] And another thing.

[00:24:39] Why don't the kids age?

[00:24:41] It would be really interesting to see all of them age.

[00:24:46] Yeah.

[00:24:47] I don't know.

[00:24:48] That's weird.

[00:24:50] But then we're getting into Inside Out 2 territory and they're going to start processing their

[00:24:54] emotions and all that.

[00:24:55] So, yeah.

[00:24:57] Yeah.

[00:24:57] Well.

[00:24:58] Well, anything else about?

[00:25:01] Not really, but they just, ooh, parenting on Gru Jr. needs to, you know.

[00:25:06] I did like the castle heist thing.

[00:25:08] The Mission Impossible.

[00:25:10] Yeah.

[00:25:10] I did like that.

[00:25:11] I like the old lady.

[00:25:12] Yeah.

[00:25:13] Yeah.

[00:25:14] But yeah, I don't really have anything to add.

[00:25:16] I rated it, I think, three.

[00:25:19] All right.

[00:25:20] I'll go three and a half.

[00:25:21] Okay.

[00:25:22] Just for my despicable me love.

[00:25:25] All right.

[00:25:27] Well, letterbox time.

[00:25:29] I'll go first this time.

[00:25:31] All right.

[00:25:31] Sydney rated it two and a half.

[00:25:34] She said, the minions are always up to no good.

[00:25:36] I love those little fuckers.

[00:25:39] You're not wrong.

[00:25:42] Sean Chandler also did two and a half.

[00:25:45] Says, plenty of jokes land, but the movie just feels like an excuse for gags.

[00:25:50] Instead of a plot, the movie feels like a series of subplots and standalone scenes, but none

[00:25:55] of it goes anywhere or matters.

[00:25:57] There's no character arcs, growth, or emotion.

[00:26:00] Superficially fun at times, but empty.

[00:26:03] Franchise feels played out.

[00:26:05] Oh.

[00:26:07] Ooh.

[00:26:09] Claire, with a white heart emoji.

[00:26:13] Cute.

[00:26:14] Rated it three stars.

[00:26:16] And she said, if Cockroachman can pull Sofia...

[00:26:20] Vergara.

[00:26:21] Vergara.

[00:26:22] I can do anything.

[00:26:24] Hmm.

[00:26:25] I mean, yeah.

[00:26:25] Which is true.

[00:26:26] Yeah.

[00:26:28] Oh, I also added another one.

[00:26:31] Okay.

[00:26:32] I cannot pronounce this username, but you can give it a go.

[00:26:38] Luis Asim Schauser.

[00:26:41] I don't know if the...

[00:26:43] We're...

[00:26:44] Oh, wait.

[00:26:46] Luisa Sims Hauser.

[00:26:48] I think that's right.

[00:26:49] Okay.

[00:26:50] Let us know.

[00:26:52] They rated it four out of five and say, why have the children not aged?

[00:26:58] That's what I'm saying.

[00:27:00] Yeah.

[00:27:01] I'm not the only one wondering that.

[00:27:03] Yeah.

[00:27:05] All right.

[00:27:05] Well, there you go.

[00:27:06] Let us know your thoughts in whatever way.

[00:27:08] Comment on YouTube or send us an email.

[00:27:10] Comment on social media, whatever.

[00:27:13] Love to hear from you or in Letterboxd if you wish.

[00:27:16] And yeah.

[00:27:17] So should we just do stuff we watched?

[00:27:20] Yeah.

[00:27:20] Mine's going to be long, but I'll just do some recent stuff.

[00:27:23] Okay.

[00:27:24] You can go first then.

[00:27:26] All right.

[00:27:27] Well, buckle up, guys.

[00:27:31] Okay.

[00:27:32] So I finally got around watching Gilmore Girls A Year in the Life.

[00:27:38] And I am a big fan of Gilmore Girls, even though Lorelai annoys me.

[00:27:45] And Rory annoys me and everybody in the show kind of annoys me.

[00:27:51] But I was not like a huge fan of Year in the Life.

[00:27:56] It's worth a watch if you're a fan, but I just was not a fan.

[00:28:01] There wasn't enough Paris Geller in it.

[00:28:04] And there was this like ongoing joke of Rory forgetting Paul, this guy she has been dating for two years.

[00:28:13] Like she's just been like forgetting him.

[00:28:15] And I hated that.

[00:28:17] Great writing there.

[00:28:17] Yeah.

[00:28:18] I hated that ongoing joke.

[00:28:20] And then the ending was just kind of.

[00:28:23] Also, one thing I wanted I didn't want to say while we were watching, because I saw the tail end.

[00:28:27] I've never seen I've never really watched the show.

[00:28:29] But there's a line that they actually steal from the social network.

[00:28:35] So, you know, when so she's writing the book, right?

[00:28:38] And the mom says, take out the the it's cleaner.

[00:28:42] Literally the same movements, the same line from when Justin Timberlake in the social network says to to I was about to say Mark Wahlberg, Mark Zuckerberg and says, take out the the in Facebook.

[00:28:55] It's cleaner.

[00:28:56] I was like, you stole that.

[00:28:58] Oh, I didn't know that.

[00:28:59] I haven't seen that movie in such a reason.

[00:29:01] I mean, it's what I saw.

[00:29:02] It was it was charming enough.

[00:29:04] Yeah.

[00:29:04] Just, you know, just doesn't compared.

[00:29:06] Stop doing like sequels and like remakes and crap.

[00:29:11] I'm not interested.

[00:29:12] You know, make something original that you can make an original idea.

[00:29:17] But just let's see.

[00:29:18] You watched it, though.

[00:29:19] You're logged on Netflix's.

[00:29:21] You're just that you're part of the problem because they see that's another tally to the.

[00:29:25] Well, because I've gone so long without watching it.

[00:29:28] It was released in 2016.

[00:29:31] It is almost 2025.

[00:29:34] I've gone like almost nine years without watching it because I knew it wasn't going to be great.

[00:29:39] Yeah.

[00:29:40] So I also watched X, which.

[00:29:44] Oh, yeah.

[00:29:44] Well, yeah, we watched or we've almost seen the whole trilogy.

[00:29:47] I'd seen it before, but this was first time X and Pearl.

[00:29:51] Pearl was very interesting.

[00:29:53] There's something deeply wrong with this woman.

[00:29:56] Well, yeah, she's a serial killer.

[00:29:58] Well, yeah.

[00:29:59] But like other than that problem, just humping a spoiler, humping a scarecrow.

[00:30:09] Iconic.

[00:30:10] And just all the weird shit she does.

[00:30:13] Yeah.

[00:30:13] It's really weird.

[00:30:15] Like other than the killing.

[00:30:17] Like, OK, let's put that aside.

[00:30:19] She's a teenager.

[00:30:20] There's like these other issues.

[00:30:22] No, she's not a teenager.

[00:30:24] She's married.

[00:30:26] I think she's like 18.

[00:30:28] OK, well.

[00:30:29] Fine.

[00:30:29] She's married, but she's technically.

[00:30:31] I finally got around watching Scream.

[00:30:36] Five and six.

[00:30:37] Five and six.

[00:30:38] Yes.

[00:30:39] And that was pretty, pretty good.

[00:30:41] I I like that it was a little different than the others.

[00:30:45] It wasn't kind of the same thing.

[00:30:47] Sorry.

[00:30:48] All right.

[00:30:48] I'm scrolling here.

[00:30:49] I am.

[00:30:50] I've added so much crap to my watch list.

[00:30:53] OK.

[00:30:54] Edward Scissorhands.

[00:30:55] A classic.

[00:30:56] Yeah.

[00:30:56] Evil Dead Rise.

[00:30:58] Love it.

[00:30:59] To sum it up.

[00:31:00] Ew.

[00:31:01] The Final Girls, which was, you know, charming.

[00:31:05] Funny People.

[00:31:06] It wasn't that funny.

[00:31:08] Spoiler alert.

[00:31:09] Whoa.

[00:31:10] No, it's just it's a movie with funny actors not being funny.

[00:31:15] And then yet the movie is called Funny People.

[00:31:17] But they're kind of.

[00:31:17] But they're comedians.

[00:31:19] They're not funny.

[00:31:20] But they're still comedians.

[00:31:21] I mean, I found I thought Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen were funny, though.

[00:31:25] I like I like the movie.

[00:31:26] I'll say.

[00:31:26] OK, here are their jokes.

[00:31:28] Let me sum them up.

[00:31:29] My small dick.

[00:31:31] My small dick.

[00:31:31] My small dick.

[00:31:33] Humping a girl.

[00:31:34] So I do.

[00:31:35] There is a MySpace joke in there as well.

[00:31:37] And I do like the scene where he tries to get Seth Rogen to kill him or think he actually

[00:31:43] wants him to kill him.

[00:31:44] Yeah, no, that's really funny.

[00:31:46] That was classic.

[00:31:46] I'll give it that.

[00:31:49] I rewatched Ralph Breaks the Internet.

[00:31:51] I was in a Disney Disney mood.

[00:31:56] Fly Me to the Moon.

[00:31:57] I thought it was really, really great.

[00:31:59] I read it three and a half, though.

[00:32:01] I always save my four and five stars for really good movies.

[00:32:08] I watched Spider-Man one, two and three of the Tobey Maguire movies.

[00:32:13] Always a good time.

[00:32:15] Vanilla Sky.

[00:32:16] That movie blew my mind.

[00:32:19] Biggest plot twist.

[00:32:22] Yeah, go watch it if you haven't.

[00:32:24] She's been dead the whole time.

[00:32:27] Sex tape.

[00:32:28] One and a half star.

[00:32:29] Oh, yes, that's not great.

[00:32:31] I was not a fan.

[00:32:33] I finally got around to watching Boyhood.

[00:32:38] I liked the effort behind it, but I don't know.

[00:32:45] Just the mom was so annoying the entire time.

[00:32:48] Like, okay, I'm a student.

[00:32:53] And I'm going to marry and get involved with the professor.

[00:32:57] And then she's the professor and gets involved with the student.

[00:33:00] Really weird.

[00:33:03] I watched this really bad movie with Miley Cyrus in it called LOL.

[00:33:09] Oh, yeah.

[00:33:10] Heard about that?

[00:33:11] Yeah.

[00:33:12] Were you laughing?

[00:33:13] Not really.

[00:33:14] There's this scene.

[00:33:17] Now, I like the music in it, but there's this scene in it that, like, hits me wrong every

[00:33:23] time I watch it.

[00:33:24] And I watch it whenever, like, I just want to cut something on.

[00:33:28] And I probably watch it every year, which is probably too much for that movie.

[00:33:34] But I just, I like Miley Cyrus as an actress.

[00:33:37] And even though the movie's, like, really weird and shitty.

[00:33:40] But there's a scene at the beginning of it.

[00:33:42] And, like, Miley Cyrus's character walks in the bathroom.

[00:33:47] Demi Moore's character, the mom, and her siblings are in the bathtub bathing together.

[00:33:53] Which, you know, I guess is not weird.

[00:33:56] But then Miley Cyrus's character hops in the shower.

[00:34:01] And Demi Moore's character asks Miley Cyrus's character, is that a Brazilian wax?

[00:34:05] And Miley Cyrus's character says, you know, it's my body.

[00:34:12] I can do what I want.

[00:34:13] You know, which is, that's fine to say, right?

[00:34:16] And then she says, I just want to, like, bathe with my family and not get on, you know,

[00:34:24] have you get on to me about my body.

[00:34:27] I'm like, that's such a weird thing to say.

[00:34:32] That is weird.

[00:34:33] And then, you know, she just comes in and, like, strips in front of her family.

[00:34:37] It's really weird.

[00:34:38] That is strange.

[00:34:39] Like, she's 17, 18 at that point.

[00:34:43] And her siblings are, like, 10.

[00:34:45] Which, I mean, I think it is weird to bathe with your 10-year-olds.

[00:34:49] Hmm.

[00:34:50] Yep.

[00:34:50] But, yeah, anyway.

[00:34:53] I rewatched a lot of the Spider-Man movies.

[00:34:56] And that's pretty much it.

[00:34:58] That's kind of how to sum up my month.

[00:35:02] I watched Wreck from mid-2000s where a crew tries to document a firefighter's night on shift.

[00:35:13] And then they go to this house where a woman is complaining about something.

[00:35:16] And then they end up getting locked in there.

[00:35:18] And it turns into a zombie film.

[00:35:21] So it's almost like Blair Witch but with zombies in a house or in an apartment complex.

[00:35:27] And it was really intense.

[00:35:28] Once it gets going, it's really crazy and on edge.

[00:35:32] So very worth watching.

[00:35:35] We rewatched Shutter Island.

[00:35:37] Love Shutter Island.

[00:35:39] Shutter Island is one of those movies where I really wish I could erase, like, seeing it.

[00:35:46] Because, like, yeah, like, rewatching it, great.

[00:35:50] But it's, like, that feeling of the plot twist when you watch it for the first time.

[00:35:56] Like, I love those types of movies.

[00:35:59] Like, Vanilla Sky.

[00:36:01] Yeah.

[00:36:02] And then lastly, I rewatched, or sorry, I watched for the first time 30 Days of Night, which is a vampire thriller from, I think, the mid-2000s as well with Josh Hartnett.

[00:36:13] And it's directed by one of the guys who did one of the Twilight films, one of the sequels.

[00:36:18] And it's okay.

[00:36:20] It's not as good as I thought it would be or some people made it out to be.

[00:36:24] It ends up just being sort of a dragged out, decent thriller.

[00:36:28] It's watchable but not nearly as biting, let's say, as I think it could be or should have been.

[00:36:35] But still worth watching if you like vampire stuff.

[00:36:38] If you're desperate, could do worse.

[00:36:41] And that is about it for me from, in terms of stuff that I won't be releasing in another format.

[00:36:48] Before we go, I would like to share my Spider-Man movies ranked list from Letterboxd.

[00:36:57] Huge drop.

[00:36:58] All right.

[00:36:59] Well, number one, clearly Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire won the first one ever.

[00:37:08] Two, Spider-Man No Way Home.

[00:37:12] Three, Spider-Man 3.

[00:37:14] See, that's what's shocking to me is Spider-Man 3 is above Spider-Man 2.

[00:37:18] Four, Spider-Man Homecoming.

[00:37:21] Five, Spider-Man Far From Home.

[00:37:25] Six, Spider-Man 2.

[00:37:28] I'm not a fan of the Octo-Man, okay?

[00:37:33] But he's not the whole movie.

[00:37:34] Ah, okay, whatever.

[00:37:36] Seven, The Amazing Spider-Man.

[00:37:40] And eight, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

[00:37:45] Yeah.

[00:37:46] Sorry, Andrew Garfield.

[00:37:47] He knows.

[00:37:49] All right, well, thanks for that.

[00:37:52] A little surprise share.

[00:37:54] Oh, um, movie news, right?

[00:37:58] I mean, honestly, I don't really have anything big, do you?

[00:38:00] No.

[00:38:01] The animated Twilight series, Henry.

[00:38:04] Oh, yeah.

[00:38:05] I have to share that.

[00:38:06] That just dropped today, actually.

[00:38:08] My 12-year-old self is screaming.

[00:38:11] Yeah.

[00:38:11] I mean, I'll be curious to see what they do with it.

[00:38:14] Honestly, I will watch it.

[00:38:16] Yeah.

[00:38:16] But even if it's bad.

[00:38:18] Yeah.

[00:38:19] I mean, that's how it is.

[00:38:20] I do re-watch the entire series, like, once a year.

[00:38:25] Yeah.

[00:38:25] Because it's just nostalgic, okay?

[00:38:28] Like, the music, just the bad acting, the slow, the bad slow-mos, you know?

[00:38:35] The where have you been, Loka, you know?

[00:38:38] All just...

[00:38:39] Oh, yeah.

[00:38:40] It's hard.

[00:38:41] Like, I can go back and say that those movies, terrible.

[00:38:48] However, I think the effects are pretty good.

[00:38:52] And it's just nostalgic.

[00:38:54] And I really miss movies where I stood in line for the midnight premiere, and I was really, really excited.

[00:39:07] All right.

[00:39:10] All right, well, thanks, as always, for joining us.

[00:39:12] Hope you enjoyed it.

[00:39:14] Well, thanks.

[00:39:15] Always nice to have us both on.

[00:39:17] Yeah.

[00:39:18] It's always a nice change of pace.

[00:39:19] So, yeah.

[00:39:20] Well, hope you enjoyed it even half as much as we did.

[00:39:23] And I'll see you next time.

[00:39:24] All right.

[00:39:24] See you guys.
