[00:00:26] Hello everybody, welcome back to the Film Buds Podcast. This is episode number 67.
[00:00:31] 67 and my name is Henry. I'm Chloe. I'm Anna Claire.
[00:00:35] Yes, joining us for the first time is our friend Anna Claire, who I just met a couple of days ago.
[00:00:42] Yes. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, she's gonna be joining us. So thanks for coming on the show.
[00:00:47] Of course. And today, what are we doing? We're doing-
[00:00:51] Mid90s. Mid90s. An American Honey.
[00:00:53] And American Honey from 2016. So I think we got all the usual-
[00:00:56] Is it really from 2016?
[00:00:58] Mm-hmm. Yeah. Dang.
[00:00:59] But yeah, we got all the usual stuff. So thanks for joining us once again. And I guess we should say Happy Halloween, although-
[00:01:06] Nah.
[00:01:06] We were supposed to record on Halloween, but had some technical-
[00:01:09] Henry effed up.
[00:01:10] Yeah, had some technical goofs. But, so we hope you had a nice Halloween. What'd y'all do?
[00:01:16] Puppy class.
[00:01:18] Nice.
[00:01:18] Yes.
[00:01:19] How'd that go?
[00:01:20] It was good. We dressed him up. He's a taco.
[00:01:23] Cool.
[00:01:24] Cool.
[00:01:24] The only dressed up puppy at puppy class.
[00:01:27] Chloe, what about you?
[00:01:29] I did not do much. I low-key do not remember what I did. I went to the pool. So that was nice.
[00:01:36] Really? Wow.
[00:01:37] I go to the pool every day.
[00:01:38] Oh.
[00:01:38] Yeah.
[00:01:39] Sorry.
[00:01:42] Yeah.
[00:01:43] Cool.
[00:01:44] That's exciting.
[00:01:45] Mm-hmm.
[00:01:45] Did you have any trick-or-treaters? Because I did not.
[00:01:47] A few.
[00:01:48] He's got a good neighborhood for us.
[00:01:49] I had zero.
[00:01:50] Yeah.
[00:01:50] We had a couple-
[00:01:51] They come in hordes now.
[00:01:53] It's like-
[00:01:53] Yeah.
[00:01:53] Yeah, they're called friends, Henry.
[00:01:56] It's lame.
[00:01:56] It's lame.
[00:01:58] What age did you stop trick-or-treating, Henry?
[00:02:00] I don't know.
[00:02:01] Maybe-
[00:02:02] It hasn't happened yet?
[00:02:03] Yeah, I just went as myself last night. No, I don't know. Like, in the middle school,
[00:02:08] maybe? Maybe earlier?
[00:02:09] All right.
[00:02:10] Earlier?
[00:02:10] Because I was like this tall and just-
[00:02:14] Ah.
[00:02:15] It looks like, you know-
[00:02:16] Yeah, Anna Claire and I, I feel like could low-key still get away with trick-or-treating?
[00:02:19] I know. I think about it sometimes.
[00:02:20] Yeah.
[00:02:21] We did think about it yesterday.
[00:02:23] Yeah.
[00:02:24] It's worth a shot, you know?
[00:02:27] Especially kids these days, hormones.
[00:02:29] Yeah.
[00:02:30] McDonald's growing up so fast.
[00:02:32] Right.
[00:02:33] Right.
[00:02:34] That's a thing, Henry. There's been reports about it.
[00:02:37] What is?
[00:02:38] They're, the more GM, you know, they try to cut corners so they're giving the chickens
[00:02:43] a bunch of hormones and then the hormones stay in the chickens so then you eat the chickens
[00:02:48] and then you go through puberty when you're six months old.
[00:02:52] Yeah.
[00:02:54] Anyway.
[00:02:55] That's cool.
[00:02:56] We used to go to, we used to get, full disclosure, I've never eaten at McDonald's or like any of
[00:03:03] those because I got them hippie parents and I appreciate them for that.
[00:03:07] But we used to get kids meals for the toys and then give the food to like someone who needed
[00:03:14] it. Yeah.
[00:03:14] Okay.
[00:03:15] In my mind, the hippie parents would be like refusing to support.
[00:03:19] Yeah.
[00:03:20] It was one I really wanted.
[00:03:21] The organization?
[00:03:22] I mean.
[00:03:22] That's still weird.
[00:03:23] Can't you just go to the toy store?
[00:03:25] No, they were exclusive.
[00:03:27] It's like the Men in Black Dog.
[00:03:28] Okay.
[00:03:29] If they could, they would pay for the toy and then.
[00:03:33] What'd you dress up as, Chloe?
[00:03:35] When?
[00:03:35] For Halloween.
[00:03:37] I mean, I usually just do Gryffindor number six.
[00:03:41] Yeah.
[00:03:42] Yeah.
[00:03:43] That's really the go-to.
[00:03:45] I don't super go all out a lot of the time, which is surprising, I guess.
[00:03:50] Yeah.
[00:03:50] Because like for my parties, I decorate all out.
[00:03:53] But myself as a canvas, I can't do it.
[00:03:58] Yeah.
[00:03:59] Yeah.
[00:04:00] My best friend Mary was a troll doll.
[00:04:02] She's like the best.
[00:04:03] That might be why I have this like self-consciousness because she's so good at it.
[00:04:08] Yeah.
[00:04:08] She's kind of-
[00:04:09] That's not really why I just don't feel like it.
[00:04:10] Blows it out of water.
[00:04:11] She does every time.
[00:04:13] Good for her.
[00:04:13] Yeah.
[00:04:15] We one time-
[00:04:16] Here's a little tie-in.
[00:04:18] There's a show called Dorm Life.
[00:04:19] It's like not a real show.
[00:04:21] It was like the students at UCLA when my friends and I were like in middle school and they made
[00:04:26] a show called Dorm Life and a bunch of them are in other stuff now.
[00:04:29] Like one of the girls says it was in the office for a while.
[00:04:31] Hmm.
[00:04:32] Interesting.
[00:04:33] Dwight's fiance for a minute.
[00:04:34] Ah.
[00:04:35] Yes.
[00:04:35] Anyway.
[00:04:36] So we were like obsessed with that show.
[00:04:39] We would pull all-nighters and just watch all of them.
[00:04:40] I think they're on YouTube or whatever.
[00:04:42] They're short.
[00:04:43] And so one year all my-
[00:04:44] Like Kaylee, like all my friends and I went as the cast of Dorm Life.
[00:04:48] That was pretty good.
[00:04:50] That was the highlight for sure as far as costumes.
[00:04:53] Yeah.
[00:04:55] Hmm.
[00:04:56] There you go.
[00:04:57] Interesting.
[00:04:59] Sorry, my dog wants to come in.
[00:05:01] You should ask Kim Claire about her life.
[00:05:04] And Claire, well, yeah.
[00:05:05] It's fascinating.
[00:05:05] Yeah, this is your first time.
[00:05:06] What are you into, buddy?
[00:05:07] Tell us your life.
[00:05:09] Hmm.
[00:05:11] That's a lot of pressure.
[00:05:14] I'm unemployed.
[00:05:16] No, you're not.
[00:05:17] Well, I work Wednesday nights teaching an acting class.
[00:05:21] Yeah.
[00:05:21] But other than that, I'm unemployed.
[00:05:24] Yeah, Claire's a great actor.
[00:05:26] Actress.
[00:05:26] Whichever you prefer.
[00:05:27] I don't know.
[00:05:28] I acted in high school mostly for like self-improvement.
[00:05:31] Because my director slash teacher was like a life guru.
[00:05:35] Hmm.
[00:05:35] And that's who I work for now.
[00:05:37] Oh my God, that's so interesting.
[00:05:38] She is.
[00:05:38] Like she prepared us for like job interviews.
[00:05:41] And like I was really early to all of my college classes on the first day because of her.
[00:05:46] Which actually helped a lot.
[00:05:48] Because a lot of them were like too full.
[00:05:50] And there weren't seats and stuff.
[00:05:51] But anyways.
[00:05:53] So that's why I did that.
[00:05:55] I mean, I've done like some screenwriting stuff.
[00:05:59] I went to Seattle last summer for that.
[00:06:02] Oh, that's neat.
[00:06:03] Yeah.
[00:06:04] I don't know.
[00:06:05] I am like fascinated by visual storytelling.
[00:06:08] So that's my motivator.
[00:06:09] So you're a movie person then?
[00:06:11] Yeah.
[00:06:12] They go hand in hand.
[00:06:12] Yeah.
[00:06:13] But it's like not just movies.
[00:06:14] It's like, well, movies, TV, books, graphic novels.
[00:06:20] I don't know.
[00:06:21] Anything with like visuals and story.
[00:06:23] Yeah.
[00:06:23] It's good for me.
[00:06:24] Cool.
[00:06:25] Yeah.
[00:06:26] You can list some of your stuff.
[00:06:29] People like that.
[00:06:30] Like favorites or whatever.
[00:06:31] What's.
[00:06:32] Well, Chloe and I were talking about like TV on the way over because I realized recently
[00:06:35] that I'm like hardcore TV.
[00:06:37] Yeah.
[00:06:37] Which is sad because I was also looking into TV writing and you like have to live in LA
[00:06:41] and work 14 hours a day.
[00:06:44] Yeah.
[00:06:45] Seven days a week.
[00:06:46] So.
[00:06:47] No, but like Buffy for sure is like a big number one.
[00:06:52] But I have like very wide tastes.
[00:06:53] Like I'm also really into Downton Abbey.
[00:06:56] Nice.
[00:06:56] And like this is us.
[00:06:57] And what else?
[00:06:59] Oh my God.
[00:06:59] Tear jerker.
[00:07:00] That's why I watch on my stationary bicycle because it keeps me so interested.
[00:07:03] I'm like, I'm not even on a stationary bicycle.
[00:07:05] Well, and then the writing is so great.
[00:07:07] Like the way they use past and present.
[00:07:09] Yeah.
[00:07:09] Gasp every episode.
[00:07:11] Yeah.
[00:07:11] There's always a gasp.
[00:07:12] And so far they have.
[00:07:14] It hasn't gotten boring.
[00:07:14] Like or too old.
[00:07:16] No.
[00:07:16] Which is really nice.
[00:07:17] But he made a movie that got crapped on.
[00:07:20] Like everybody hated it.
[00:07:21] But yeah, it was like supposed to be in the exact same vein as this is us.
[00:07:24] I don't know what it was called.
[00:07:25] Well, you know, Joss Whedon made a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.
[00:07:28] I know it.
[00:07:29] Yeah.
[00:07:29] And that sucked.
[00:07:30] Yeah.
[00:07:31] But I think he left halfway through.
[00:07:32] He did.
[00:07:32] That was the.
[00:07:33] Yeah.
[00:07:33] Yeah.
[00:07:34] Hmm.
[00:07:34] I've never watched it, but apparently her periods help.
[00:07:37] I have watched it.
[00:07:38] Yes.
[00:07:39] Isn't that crazy?
[00:07:41] What a.
[00:07:42] What a feminist.
[00:07:46] But no.
[00:07:46] I don't know.
[00:07:47] I like Firefly though.
[00:07:48] Yeah.
[00:07:49] We've been over this.
[00:07:49] I still haven't watched that though.
[00:07:51] But I don't know.
[00:07:52] Harry Potter.
[00:07:54] Oh, duh.
[00:07:55] Mortal Instruments.
[00:07:56] Nice cheesy.
[00:07:57] Oh, really?
[00:07:57] Which I really like.
[00:07:58] Oh, the show?
[00:07:59] No.
[00:08:00] No, the books.
[00:08:00] Dear God damn.
[00:08:01] I've never read the books, but I got.
[00:08:03] The books are amazing.
[00:08:04] And both the TV show and the movie horribly flopped.
[00:08:07] Yes.
[00:08:08] And I've spent so much time like designing my own like sets and characters for that.
[00:08:13] Like I have so many drawings.
[00:08:14] The fact that they flopped like your time will come in a clear.
[00:08:17] I, maybe.
[00:08:18] The chance is still here.
[00:08:19] But yeah.
[00:08:20] I mean, I kind of love stuff like that because it allows me to like daydream specifically about
[00:08:24] what I would do.
[00:08:26] Mm-hmm.
[00:08:26] I do that a lot too.
[00:08:27] Interesting.
[00:08:28] As we've discussed on here.
[00:08:30] Right.
[00:08:31] Henry, you're still here?
[00:08:32] Yep.
[00:08:35] But yes.
[00:08:36] That's how I know Megan.
[00:08:37] Anna Claire does a party that we were both at.
[00:08:39] Yeah.
[00:08:39] That's how I know her.
[00:08:40] From acting.
[00:08:40] Yeah, she's cool.
[00:08:41] Oh.
[00:08:42] And she teaches, helps teach the class right before me on Wednesday.
[00:08:45] Oh, awesome.
[00:08:46] Henry went to a party.
[00:08:47] That's the real news here.
[00:08:48] Yeah.
[00:08:49] He didn't talk to anyone.
[00:08:50] Yeah, I just, I just talked to Hannah the whole time.
[00:08:53] Yeah.
[00:08:53] But it's okay.
[00:08:54] I'm not really good.
[00:08:54] Name dropper.
[00:08:55] Yeah.
[00:08:55] I'm not, I'm not, I'm not really good at parties, so.
[00:08:57] Oh, you're great.
[00:08:58] I tried to watch How to Talk to Girls at Parties.
[00:09:00] Uh-huh.
[00:09:01] You weren't a fan?
[00:09:02] Oh my God.
[00:09:02] It just got off.
[00:09:03] I couldn't get through.
[00:09:04] I did like 10 minutes.
[00:09:05] I said, I hate everything about this.
[00:09:07] That's the first, that's the worst part of the movie.
[00:09:10] Well, that's stupid.
[00:09:12] I agree.
[00:09:12] It was terrible.
[00:09:13] They should have worked on it, but.
[00:09:14] And the crap with the camera work.
[00:09:17] I have no memory of this.
[00:09:18] Ugh.
[00:09:19] So.
[00:09:21] You're on your own.
[00:09:22] No bueno.
[00:09:23] But no, I mean, it was, it was fun.
[00:09:24] It was like, the party was like low key, just small, tight knit.
[00:09:28] I left early.
[00:09:29] Yeah.
[00:09:30] Yeah.
[00:09:30] That's what cool people do.
[00:09:31] It was a movie party though, and I left before the movie.
[00:09:35] Had you seen the movie?
[00:09:36] No.
[00:09:36] What was the movie?
[00:09:37] It was like a New Zealand horror.
[00:09:38] It was Housebound.
[00:09:39] It was actually, it was, it's just a very goofy New Zealand horror movie.
[00:09:43] I mean, it was entertaining.
[00:09:45] It was niche.
[00:09:46] Yeah.
[00:09:46] Niche, niche.
[00:09:47] Of course it was.
[00:09:48] Yeah.
[00:09:49] But yeah, I mean, it was, it was entertaining, you know?
[00:09:51] Kept your attention.
[00:09:52] Great.
[00:09:53] Not mine.
[00:09:54] More or less.
[00:09:54] Yeah.
[00:09:56] So.
[00:09:57] All right.
[00:09:58] Should we, after all that, that stuff, should we just kick off with the review of Jonah Hill's
[00:10:04] mid nineties and we have a clip.
[00:10:06] So take a listen.
[00:10:12] Skating like shit today, man.
[00:10:14] Looks cool to me.
[00:10:15] I'm Ruben.
[00:10:16] Stevie.
[00:10:18] How long you been friends with those guys?
[00:10:20] A couple months.
[00:10:22] They're really cool.
[00:10:24] They're so cute.
[00:10:26] They're like at the age before guys become dicks.
[00:10:31] You think you're pretty cool?
[00:10:33] You good?
[00:10:36] You're just a little kid.
[00:10:39] You all right?
[00:10:41] A lot of the time we feel like our lives are the worst, but I think if you looked at anybody
[00:10:48] else's closet, you wouldn't trade your shit for their shit.
[00:10:52] So let's go.
[00:10:56] That's why we ride a piece of wood.
[00:10:58] What that does to somebody's spirit.
[00:11:02] Oh, so cool.
[00:11:13] Yo, Stevie is saying.
[00:11:16] Okay.
[00:11:17] So.
[00:11:18] Mid nineties.
[00:11:19] Mid nineties.
[00:11:20] Directed and written by Jonah Hill.
[00:11:21] Written by and directed by Jonah Hill.
[00:11:24] Stars Sonny Soljic.
[00:11:27] Katherine Waterston.
[00:11:28] Lucas Hedges.
[00:11:30] Bunch of skateboarders.
[00:11:32] Uh, that's about it for recognizable names.
[00:11:35] Well, they're all first timers.
[00:11:37] Yeah.
[00:11:37] Yeah.
[00:11:37] And the synopsis is follows Stevie, a 13 year old in 1990s era Los Angeles who spends his
[00:11:44] summer navigating between his troubled home life and a group of new friends that he meets
[00:11:49] at a Motor Avenue skate shop.
[00:11:52] So this is Jonah Hill's directorial debut.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:56] Oh, and I realized last week, Chloe, we didn't read the synopsis for Bad Times at El Royale.
[00:12:00] Oh, geez.
[00:12:01] Oh, well.
[00:12:02] Did we really not?
[00:12:03] No.
[00:12:03] I started to read the cast and we just moved on to something else.
[00:12:06] Well, we hated it.
[00:12:07] So fair enough.
[00:12:08] Yeah.
[00:12:08] So anyways.
[00:12:10] I can't, I cannot imagine the synopsis was anything.
[00:12:13] It was like a paragraph.
[00:12:14] So, yeah.
[00:12:15] Yeah.
[00:12:15] But anyways.
[00:12:16] So.
[00:12:17] Don't see that movie out of Claire.
[00:12:19] It sucked.
[00:12:19] Don't worry.
[00:12:19] This one's been making its, you know, rounds, been getting a buzz.
[00:12:24] Yeah.
[00:12:25] But like in a weird way.
[00:12:27] How so?
[00:12:28] It hasn't been getting that much press though.
[00:12:31] No.
[00:12:32] Yeah.
[00:12:33] I mean.
[00:12:33] It's because it's like a weird.
[00:12:36] Time?
[00:12:37] Catch 22 thing where people like talk about Jonah Hill.
[00:12:44] Mm-hmm.
[00:12:44] But not his movie.
[00:12:45] People talk about people talking about Jonah Hill instead of his movie.
[00:12:49] So it's this weird like.
[00:12:50] Oh.
[00:12:51] Okay.
[00:12:51] Alligator in its tail thing.
[00:12:53] Yeah.
[00:12:53] Now.
[00:12:54] Aw.
[00:12:55] Oh, well.
[00:12:55] Poor thing.
[00:12:56] Well.
[00:12:59] Kingdom cry on Leo's shoulder.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:01] Well, Anna Claire, since you're our guest and you already expressed your opinion to us off
[00:13:06] air, you want to jump in here?
[00:13:08] Okay.
[00:13:09] I mean, I can start by saying that I went to see it and then 30 minutes in, I left.
[00:13:14] But I did manage to get in to see the rest of it for free.
[00:13:18] Shout out.
[00:13:19] Nice.
[00:13:20] I don't know.
[00:13:20] Should I say?
[00:13:21] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:13:21] We do all kinds of stuff.
[00:13:24] Let me in for free to finish.
[00:13:26] That was good.
[00:13:27] So, because I wanted to be prepared.
[00:13:28] Yeah.
[00:13:29] And justified.
[00:13:29] We appreciate it.
[00:13:30] Most people don't care that much.
[00:13:32] Yeah.
[00:13:33] Whatever.
[00:13:33] Whatever.
[00:13:35] I just, it was like 30 minutes in.
[00:13:38] Well, let's see, like 15 minutes before that.
[00:13:41] So, I guess 15 minutes in.
[00:13:43] Yeah, that's math.
[00:13:43] Nothing had happened.
[00:13:44] And I like looked over at my boyfriend and I was like, do you want to go?
[00:13:48] And he was like, let's wait until three o'clock.
[00:13:51] And then by three o'clock, still nothing had happened.
[00:13:54] Because I was expecting something to happen for the conclusion to react off of.
[00:14:00] Right.
[00:14:00] And in my opinion, at least nothing had.
[00:14:03] So, we just left.
[00:14:05] And there was, it just felt a little awkward too, like the dialogue.
[00:14:09] There were like a lot of different factors that went into it.
[00:14:11] A lot of it.
[00:14:12] And couldn't get over the fact, like, it was almost too nostalgic.
[00:14:19] I can see that.
[00:14:20] Yeah.
[00:14:20] Like the, was it, there's like a montage at the beginning where they show his brother's room.
[00:14:26] But there's like no reason that we're seeing all those things.
[00:14:29] I like loved that.
[00:14:30] Except for nostalgia.
[00:14:31] I can relate though.
[00:14:32] I used to go into my sister's room when she was gone.
[00:14:34] Right.
[00:14:34] And it was like a shrine.
[00:14:35] Well, and if it was about like, I don't know, your cool older brother from the 90s.
[00:14:40] And like, where'd all those 90s things go?
[00:14:43] Then like, cool.
[00:14:44] If it was about that.
[00:14:45] And maybe like went into the future.
[00:14:47] And people didn't have CDs anymore.
[00:14:49] But it like, wasn't about that.
[00:14:50] You know what I mean?
[00:14:51] Does that make sense?
[00:14:52] Sure.
[00:14:53] Oh yeah.
[00:14:53] Because my favorite movie is you rewatch and like everything matters again the second time.
[00:14:57] Mm-hmm.
[00:14:58] If that makes sense.
[00:14:59] Anna Claire's a plot, plot gal.
[00:15:01] That's what I'm getting.
[00:15:02] Yeah.
[00:15:03] Like we were talking about like the reason she likes, but not to speak for you, Anna Claire.
[00:15:06] Like we were saying she said the reason she likes Buffy so much is like the arcs are through
[00:15:11] like interwoven through like everything.
[00:15:14] Like they think of everything.
[00:15:14] You're like, oh my God.
[00:15:16] Yeah.
[00:15:16] Yeah.
[00:15:17] Like this is us.
[00:15:19] Yeah.
[00:15:20] I mean, I have like a whole bunch of, especially because my teachers were like that too.
[00:15:24] So I guess I've been brainwashed, but like, so I have a whole bunch, like one of my teachers
[00:15:28] would even say that like story matters so much because it's how humans learn and like
[00:15:33] we've done it through history, storytelling.
[00:15:37] And that's how, you know, that's how we've been so successful as a race.
[00:15:40] We've been able to like pass down information through the years.
[00:15:42] So like irresponsible storytelling can be really poisonous sometimes.
[00:15:46] Hmm.
[00:15:48] Wow.
[00:15:48] Yeah, I know.
[00:15:49] It's a little intense.
[00:15:51] I saw, I definitely saw it as a moment for reflection, which I feel like is another kind
[00:15:54] of storytelling that's not so.
[00:15:56] That's totally fair.
[00:15:57] I mean, this is me quoting my teacher too.
[00:15:59] And I'm still young and need time to.
[00:16:03] Impressionable.
[00:16:04] Yeah, exactly.
[00:16:04] So who knows?
[00:16:05] I could listen back one day and be like, oh my God.
[00:16:07] But I feel pretty vindicated in my beliefs.
[00:16:10] Wow.
[00:16:11] Yeah.
[00:16:11] I'm so happy.
[00:16:14] Did I say anything that, that either one of you wants to directly address?
[00:16:21] Well, I mean, I, I liked it quite a bit.
[00:16:23] I mean, I like movies like this.
[00:16:26] They're kind of, I mean, I love plot driven movies too, but I like narrative list movies
[00:16:30] kind of like this where it's more experiential.
[00:16:32] Slice of life.
[00:16:33] Like it reminded me of Harmony Corrine who did like Gummo and Spring Breakers and kids.
[00:16:38] Yeah, kids.
[00:16:39] Yes, exactly.
[00:16:40] Do you like to rewatch movies like that?
[00:16:42] Yes.
[00:16:43] Okay.
[00:16:43] He loves to rewatch movies.
[00:16:45] Very kids vibes to me.
[00:16:47] Yeah.
[00:16:47] I mean.
[00:16:48] But like more heart, less like mind.
[00:16:51] You know what I mean by that?
[00:16:52] Wait, more heart than this or.
[00:16:54] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:16:54] And this.
[00:16:55] Yeah.
[00:16:55] And I mean, this one is a little more, not watered down, but a little more nice.
[00:17:00] I mean, it's not as gritty as.
[00:17:01] Yeah, kind of.
[00:17:01] I think he did a good job of him coming from, well, also the main character is a lot younger.
[00:17:06] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:17:06] So it comes from that kind of naivety, obviously.
[00:17:09] I had such a hard time understanding him though.
[00:17:11] Stevie?
[00:17:12] Really?
[00:17:12] Oh my God, I love him.
[00:17:14] Okay.
[00:17:14] You mean, wait, you mean literally or his behavior?
[00:17:16] Just like his motivation.
[00:17:18] Okay.
[00:17:18] And behavior, I guess.
[00:17:20] Behavior.
[00:17:20] Okay, I don't know if you meant literally like.
[00:17:22] Oh, like his voice?
[00:17:23] No.
[00:17:24] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:17:24] Okay.
[00:17:24] He would just like randomly like smile or like.
[00:17:27] And I get like kids being excited about random things, but I just like, I couldn't figure
[00:17:32] it out.
[00:17:32] Well, I think he was trying to approach like manhood.
[00:17:36] Yeah.
[00:17:36] I really, I really, I really liked it.
[00:17:38] I can see, I mean, a kid being a little all over the place and not like, I mean, I remember
[00:17:42] when I was that age and I would just do things and I wouldn't really know why.
[00:17:45] But it was like he thought they were so cool.
[00:17:48] Yeah, he did though.
[00:17:49] I mean.
[00:17:49] I don't know.
[00:17:50] There's just something.
[00:17:51] I just couldn't.
[00:17:51] I kept looking over at my boyfriend being like, what the fuck is going on?
[00:17:56] Because I just didn't understand it.
[00:17:58] Huh.
[00:17:58] Yeah.
[00:17:59] I mean, I can see how he could kind of idolize people who not you.
[00:18:03] I mean, you wouldn't necessarily recommend, you know, or immediately point that person
[00:18:08] out as being someone you shouldn't idolize.
[00:18:10] But.
[00:18:10] Right.
[00:18:11] And I just thought it was very, it was well directed.
[00:18:14] It was, I mean, it was.
[00:18:15] Super well directed.
[00:18:16] Yeah.
[00:18:16] I think.
[00:18:17] Yeah.
[00:18:18] And.
[00:18:18] And Claire, that was well crafted, fam.
[00:18:20] It was a beautiful movie visually.
[00:18:23] Yeah.
[00:18:23] I'm not going to argue that.
[00:18:24] But I mean, I didn't like the acting.
[00:18:26] Hmm.
[00:18:27] Well, I mean, it's definitely a lot of.
[00:18:28] I know directions more than acting.
[00:18:29] Non-actors, which is another kind of Harmony Corrine-esque type thing.
[00:18:33] And American Honey.
[00:18:34] Yeah.
[00:18:35] Yeah.
[00:18:35] Same thing.
[00:18:35] What's her name?
[00:18:36] Crappers.
[00:18:37] What's her name?
[00:18:37] The main girl?
[00:18:38] No.
[00:18:39] The director.
[00:18:41] She's dope.
[00:18:41] Can't remember.
[00:18:41] Fish tank lady is what I have called her all my life.
[00:18:44] And I probably will continue to call her.
[00:18:45] But she always finds some.
[00:18:48] Yeah.
[00:18:48] But I liked the acting in American Honey.
[00:18:50] Yeah.
[00:18:51] Interesting.
[00:18:52] I don't know.
[00:18:53] Yeah.
[00:18:53] Well, I mean, also the soundtrack was pretty good.
[00:18:55] It wasn't.
[00:18:55] It wasn't really just the greatest hits either of the 90s.
[00:18:58] Which I love.
[00:18:59] Yeah.
[00:18:59] Well picked.
[00:19:00] When that Smith song came on, I was so here for it.
[00:19:03] Yeah.
[00:19:03] Yeah.
[00:19:03] Now they got me.
[00:19:04] Sure.
[00:19:05] Yeah.
[00:19:06] Well, Chloe, I mean, you already kind of said a little bit.
[00:19:09] I loved it, Henry.
[00:19:11] Well, like I said, I think it was a really good, like, quote unquote, slice of life.
[00:19:17] I was, like, worried about the nostalgia factor, right?
[00:19:19] Like, I wouldn't be able to relate to it.
[00:19:20] But I really, I think he really did use it as, like, a backdrop.
[00:19:23] Because obviously, I was for when the 90s ended.
[00:19:27] So it's not very useful.
[00:19:29] Yeah.
[00:19:31] But, I don't know.
[00:19:33] I thought it was very, I think what proves it was an accomplishment to me is that, like,
[00:19:39] I couldn't relate to any of that kind of obvious stuff, right?
[00:19:43] Except I was a big skateboarder when I was a little obsessed with Tony Hawk.
[00:19:47] Like, I had the got milk Tony Hawk post in my room.
[00:19:49] Sure.
[00:19:49] Like, okay.
[00:19:50] My skateboard, I called it the lemon.
[00:19:52] Like, I was here for that.
[00:19:53] But other than that, other than that.
[00:19:55] Exciting.
[00:19:56] Other than that, I, you know, obviously, not a boy.
[00:20:00] Usually, I hate coming of age movies because they're, like, almost always boys.
[00:20:03] Almost always about a boy.
[00:20:05] Right.
[00:20:05] Or boys.
[00:20:06] We've talked about that endlessly.
[00:20:08] Yeah.
[00:20:08] Go back and listen.
[00:20:09] Yeah.
[00:20:09] But this one, it was so far from my reality, but I could relate to so much about it.
[00:20:15] Like, even the sibling relationship, as we've discussed, and as everybody knows, my sister
[00:20:20] is, like, amazing.
[00:20:22] Right?
[00:20:22] Oh, of course.
[00:20:23] Yeah.
[00:20:23] But there were definitely places where I could see our relationship and their relationship
[00:20:29] and then, like, be grateful for my sister who went through a lot.
[00:20:33] Like, the line when he was, like, my parent or my mom or our mom was different when she
[00:20:38] was my mom, don't choose your mom.
[00:20:40] Right?
[00:20:40] Yeah.
[00:20:40] And so I definitely saw it, not about my mom particularly, but, like, you can take that
[00:20:46] and, you know, translate it to your life.
[00:20:48] And, like, it made me appreciate my sister for not taking that out on me, that those differences
[00:20:53] that were definitely there growing up, that kind of thing.
[00:20:56] Yeah.
[00:20:57] I also liked it.
[00:20:58] I love that he, well, I don't want to do, like, spoilers, but I love that it wasn't
[00:21:02] like a...
[00:21:02] What?
[00:21:02] Sorry.
[00:21:03] Oh, yeah.
[00:21:03] We don't do spoilers.
[00:21:04] Usually, yeah.
[00:21:05] Wait.
[00:21:06] What?
[00:21:06] That doesn't make sense.
[00:21:07] How?
[00:21:08] Because people listen to this and then they'll go see it.
[00:21:10] And then they'll go...
[00:21:10] Oh, okay.
[00:21:10] Or we'll do spoilers at the end.
[00:21:12] Yeah.
[00:21:12] And I'm very bad with that, as everybody knows.
[00:21:15] It's a mess.
[00:21:15] It's a mess.
[00:21:15] I, like, don't know when to say bye on here because of the editing.
[00:21:18] But anyway.
[00:21:19] Yeah.
[00:21:19] But, I mean, light spoilers are okay.
[00:21:21] Right.
[00:21:21] No, I just feel, especially for this movie, I guess there aren't really these boys.
[00:21:25] Well, there are a couple, I guess, but...
[00:21:26] There are a couple, I guess, but...
[00:21:26] So much happens at the end.
[00:21:27] Yeah, yeah.
[00:21:27] Yeah.
[00:21:28] But, yeah, like, we won't say that.
[00:21:30] Okay.
[00:21:30] But you can allude to things and people will pick up if they've seen it.
[00:21:33] Okay.
[00:21:34] Anyway.
[00:21:34] Sorry.
[00:21:35] Anyway.
[00:21:37] What other thing?
[00:21:38] We're gone.
[00:21:39] I don't know.
[00:21:39] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:21:40] I like that it wasn't, again, with, like, coming of age, by the end of the movie, the boy
[00:21:46] typically is, like, a man or whatever, right?
[00:21:48] Mm-hmm.
[00:21:48] In this, he had that guidance.
[00:21:52] You know, he had that correct, the path to follow.
[00:21:55] Yes.
[00:21:55] Like, illuminated, right?
[00:21:56] But, and he, like, didn't do it exactly.
[00:21:59] Like, it wasn't so cut and dry.
[00:22:00] Not that, you know, it wasn't so cut and dry.
[00:22:02] He was a sweet little kid.
[00:22:03] He had all this big change in his life.
[00:22:05] And then he was like, where am I?
[00:22:06] Yeah.
[00:22:07] Right?
[00:22:07] And I just really liked that he didn't have that, like...
[00:22:10] I mean, yeah.
[00:22:11] Kind of shows that you can have...
[00:22:12] That bow and, you know, the bow tied on top and anything.
[00:22:15] Like, he didn't, he respected, the person he respected most in the world, but he still
[00:22:19] had to do his own thing.
[00:22:21] Yeah, yeah.
[00:22:22] You know?
[00:22:23] I mean, it kind of shows that just because you have a certain upbringing doesn't mean
[00:22:25] it's gonna work out this way or that way.
[00:22:28] And then...
[00:22:29] Right.
[00:22:29] You know, you kind of still either have a choice or sometimes it still doesn't go that way.
[00:22:34] Right.
[00:22:35] Yeah.
[00:22:36] But also, what I mean, like, more specifically is, like, he looked at someone like a god
[00:22:40] and he still had to go...
[00:22:42] And that person told him, like, this, this, and this about life.
[00:22:47] Right?
[00:22:47] Right.
[00:22:47] And he still didn't listen because he's a boy.
[00:22:49] You know what I mean?
[00:22:50] Been there.
[00:22:51] Yeah.
[00:22:52] But I think everybody kind of, or a lot of people kind of have, you know what I mean?
[00:22:55] Yeah.
[00:22:56] Like, so you have to find out for yourself sometimes.
[00:22:58] That kind of deal.
[00:22:59] But I really liked it.
[00:23:01] The performances were tight.
[00:23:02] Right.
[00:23:02] Michelle Williams was originally Katherine Watterson, but I'm here for Katherine Watterson.
[00:23:06] That's fine.
[00:23:08] Love her.
[00:23:08] Wasn't that big a...
[00:23:09] Yeah.
[00:23:10] Big part.
[00:23:11] But she's good.
[00:23:12] Michelle Williams would have been really good too.
[00:23:14] But Katherine Watterson and Sonny kind of look alike, so it helps.
[00:23:18] Although I think Michelle Williams would have stuck out a little more.
[00:23:21] Yeah, definitely.
[00:23:21] I mean, I agree.
[00:23:22] Yeah.
[00:23:23] Get those Manchester by the Sea vibes.
[00:23:25] I'm so mad I can't comfortably ever watch that movie again.
[00:23:28] I was talking to this guy on my soccer team about it.
[00:23:31] But the movie guy from my soccer...
[00:23:32] Yeah, anyway.
[00:23:34] And he was like, yeah, I tried to...
[00:23:36] He...
[00:23:36] Because I urged him to go see it in theater.
[00:23:38] Have you seen Manchester by the Sea?
[00:23:40] No.
[00:23:40] I urged him to go see it in theaters, and he didn't.
[00:23:43] And so it's on, like, Amazon Prime now or whatever.
[00:23:45] And he's like, yeah, I tried to watch it.
[00:23:46] I just couldn't get through it.
[00:23:47] Because KCF, like, is gross.
[00:23:49] Right.
[00:23:49] Couldn't get through it.
[00:23:50] No, I know.
[00:23:50] Yeah.
[00:23:51] Anyway.
[00:23:52] Anyway.
[00:23:53] But, uh...
[00:23:54] No, I just really liked it.
[00:23:55] And I liked...
[00:23:56] Not in a weird way, but you know what I mean.
[00:23:57] I liked the depiction of, like, self-harm I thought was really relatable.
[00:24:03] Yeah.
[00:24:03] And, like, made sense.
[00:24:04] You know what I mean?
[00:24:04] Yeah.
[00:24:05] Yeah.
[00:24:05] It wasn't, like, over the top, but it was realistic, I think.
[00:24:09] And there was a lot about...
[00:24:10] A lot of subtleties about, like, toxic masculinity in this movie.
[00:24:14] All those things.
[00:24:15] Yeah.
[00:24:15] All of it.
[00:24:16] I just really liked it.
[00:24:17] Yeah.
[00:24:17] I thought it was really well put together.
[00:24:18] I didn't get bored.
[00:24:20] I'm about...
[00:24:21] Also, I mean, it's...
[00:24:21] Gosh.
[00:24:22] I'm about Spike Jonze.
[00:24:23] 80-minute runtime, you know?
[00:24:24] Gotta love that.
[00:24:25] Gotta love it.
[00:24:26] You gotta love that.
[00:24:27] Yeah.
[00:24:27] Yeah.
[00:24:28] And I like how they went into each character, but not too, too much, you know?
[00:24:32] Mm-hmm.
[00:24:32] I really liked it.
[00:24:33] I will definitely...
[00:24:33] I'll watch it several more times.
[00:24:35] Yeah.
[00:24:36] Yeah.
[00:24:37] I won't.
[00:24:38] Oh, well.
[00:24:41] Anna-Claire, anything...
[00:24:43] Anything else?
[00:24:44] You got notes.
[00:24:46] Yeah.
[00:24:46] I do have notes.
[00:24:48] Also, Trent Rassner and Atticus Rock.
[00:24:50] Come on, now.
[00:24:51] You gotta love them.
[00:24:52] You gotta.
[00:24:53] You're the best.
[00:24:54] They could have used more.
[00:24:55] Dang.
[00:24:55] You know, get...
[00:24:56] Ah!
[00:24:56] Yeah.
[00:24:57] Get a 10, you know, 10-15 track list in there.
[00:24:59] Oh, the only thing I didn't like about it, funnily enough, this is like that thing you're
[00:25:02] setting people up where you're like, that twist at the end.
[00:25:04] There wasn't a twist at the end.
[00:25:05] But I didn't like the last cut.
[00:25:07] Oh, me neither.
[00:25:08] The very end.
[00:25:09] Yeah.
[00:25:09] I was like, what the?
[00:25:10] F is this?
[00:25:11] And he also had a line at the party, too, where he was like, I don't know, he mentioned
[00:25:17] the production company's name or whatever.
[00:25:19] Oh, really?
[00:25:19] Really?
[00:25:19] Yeah.
[00:25:20] And said that's what he wanted to be.
[00:25:22] Oh, yeah.
[00:25:22] I think that was stupid.
[00:25:23] I kind of like that.
[00:25:25] Really?
[00:25:25] I kind of like that.
[00:25:26] Yeah.
[00:25:26] It's sweet.
[00:25:27] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:25:28] Oh, that.
[00:25:28] I loved that.
[00:25:29] I thought that was sweet.
[00:25:31] Yeah.
[00:25:31] Yeah.
[00:25:32] I don't know.
[00:25:33] I just, I guess to me, because it was interesting, you were talking about it as like coming of
[00:25:39] age and I guess working with VR role models or something.
[00:25:44] For me, I was thinking about it as a movie about like friendship, because that's what
[00:25:48] it seems like.
[00:25:49] It seems like he, you know, didn't really have friends at the beginning.
[00:25:52] And then at the end, he did.
[00:25:54] But like, I guess what I wanted, because it's just what I would have, what would have made
[00:26:00] me stay is if it was like super clear at the beginning that he was like totally friendless
[00:26:04] and like needed friends and maybe his mom was worried about him like not having friends
[00:26:08] or something.
[00:26:09] I think that was.
[00:26:09] Because then I would be like, when he walked into the skate shop, I would be like, oh, this
[00:26:14] is where he's going to find friends.
[00:26:15] Right.
[00:26:15] And I would be like rooting for him.
[00:26:16] Well, I think that's why the beginning was the, they showed the dynamic between the
[00:26:20] brother and him.
[00:26:22] Right.
[00:26:22] But then I expected something to happen with the brother.
[00:26:25] You know what I mean?
[00:26:26] Well, something did.
[00:26:26] You have like a.
[00:26:28] He, he was, at least for me, Lucas Hedges was the, I don't remember the character's name
[00:26:32] because I don't even know if they even said it.
[00:26:34] Yeah, Lucas Hedges.
[00:26:36] But he was like the toxic masculinity character.
[00:26:40] Yeah.
[00:26:41] Basically was the main thing.
[00:26:42] And I thought he did a really good job.
[00:26:43] It was like a small part, but you could see it.
[00:26:45] Yeah.
[00:26:45] You could see it, those close ups when he was dealing with stuff.
[00:26:47] He's got some chops.
[00:26:48] He connects.
[00:26:49] Oh my God, you know I love him.
[00:26:50] I know.
[00:26:51] And I hate that I love him, but I do.
[00:26:54] Nepotism.
[00:26:55] Oh yeah.
[00:26:56] Did you know Riley Coe is Elvis's granddaughter?
[00:26:58] Really?
[00:26:59] Did not know that.
[00:27:00] I'm not surprised because I don't love her, but I don't hate her.
[00:27:03] Okay.
[00:27:04] You know.
[00:27:05] Go on though.
[00:27:07] Yeah, but I thought it, especially since they were all older than him, I thought it was
[00:27:11] like a familial, like he was looking for that family.
[00:27:14] Right.
[00:27:15] Especially.
[00:27:15] Okay.
[00:27:16] And again, I won't spoil anything, but then you see the motivations as far as it being
[00:27:20] a family from the other, you know, from one of the other main characters, you feel me?
[00:27:24] Why he would hang out with him.
[00:27:25] Yeah.
[00:27:26] No, and I know characters said all of those things, but honestly, and right, so like there
[00:27:32] were like lots of moments where they were talking about stuff like that.
[00:27:35] Right.
[00:27:35] And I feel like, but for me, I was like, I'm supposed to feel like I care, but I don't
[00:27:40] because they're just talking.
[00:27:41] You're a show, not a teller.
[00:27:43] Well, but isn't that what movies are about?
[00:27:46] I don't know.
[00:27:47] I think it depends on the type of movie.
[00:27:49] Yeah.
[00:27:49] I think it's supposed to.
[00:27:51] I don't know.
[00:27:51] If you have the visuals, why not use them?
[00:27:54] Right.
[00:27:54] I mean, I think they, I think they did.
[00:27:56] Well, also this is supposed to be, I mean, I think, actually Joan Hill has said it, so
[00:28:00] it's not just my opinion, but like, I don't know if you ever watched, I watched a lot
[00:28:05] of, and so the guy from my soccer team, he loved, this movie's like made for him, but
[00:28:07] anyway, like old skate videos from the nineties.
[00:28:11] Right.
[00:28:11] It's like a bunch of like, like trick videos and stuff.
[00:28:14] Yeah.
[00:28:14] A little bit of emotion ish, but this was like the reverse idea.
[00:28:19] Like how, how, I'm going to call him Sonny, whatever.
[00:28:22] How he didn't become good at skating.
[00:28:23] That was another thing I loved, like, cause that wasn't the point of the movie, you know?
[00:28:27] But, and there were like clear paths he could take, which I also like symbolized by other
[00:28:32] characters who had the same ability and chose different, you know, that kind of thing.
[00:28:36] Kind of letting you experience skate culture.
[00:28:38] Yeah, exactly.
[00:28:39] Not in a way that's like nicey.
[00:28:44] What do you call it?
[00:28:45] Yeah.
[00:28:45] It's squeaky clean.
[00:28:46] Feel good.
[00:28:46] Yeah, that's the one.
[00:28:47] Exactly.
[00:28:47] Yeah.
[00:28:48] That's the one.
[00:28:49] And then it's kind of true that like my dad used to take me to the skate park like every
[00:28:52] day when I was little and stuff.
[00:28:54] And you do feel that kind of camaraderie.
[00:28:56] Like it's, and you know, again, that was like later.
[00:28:59] That was the early 2000s mostly.
[00:29:00] But like, yeah.
[00:29:02] I don't know.
[00:29:03] It's there.
[00:29:03] I still think.
[00:29:05] I still think.
[00:29:06] They could have all of the aspects you liked about it.
[00:29:09] Yeah.
[00:29:09] And still have like a more direct storyline.
[00:29:12] But I don't know what that, I don't know what that would be though.
[00:29:15] I feel like the point, I feel like part of the beauty of it is that there's no loose
[00:29:19] ends to tie up.
[00:29:20] It's just there.
[00:29:20] There.
[00:29:21] Like their motivations don't need a conclusion or a, there's no driving force exactly, which
[00:29:27] is again kind of the point of it.
[00:29:28] Yeah.
[00:29:28] But also that's kind of like how it is growing up.
[00:29:31] Yeah.
[00:29:31] There's no real direct way.
[00:29:32] They have their private motivations, which come out sometimes.
[00:29:35] But again, especially like, again, I think it focuses along like the concept of masculine
[00:29:40] stuff.
[00:29:40] Like they don't talk about a lot of stuff.
[00:29:42] Yeah.
[00:29:42] I mean like you may have a summer where you act a completely different way than when school
[00:29:47] starts.
[00:29:47] You may enter a completely different phase and then it goes in a.
[00:29:50] And to that point.
[00:29:51] The next week will be different.
[00:29:52] To that point.
[00:29:52] I was never that kid.
[00:29:53] Like I've always been the exact, like low key, always been the exact same person.
[00:29:57] I can believe this.
[00:29:57] No growth at all.
[00:29:58] I can believe that.
[00:30:00] Barely any vertically even.
[00:30:02] Like, yeah.
[00:30:03] But I can still, I still feel it.
[00:30:05] Yeah.
[00:30:06] Like I was never in his shoes.
[00:30:08] Like I never went cray cray.
[00:30:10] Sure.
[00:30:11] But I could still relate to other parts of it.
[00:30:12] You know what I mean?
[00:30:13] Yeah.
[00:30:14] The one, that was weird though.
[00:30:15] The party scene with the girl.
[00:30:17] Just get someone who looks a little younger.
[00:30:18] That was so, don't make them do that level of stuff.
[00:30:23] Yeah.
[00:30:24] I mean, in real life, I believe they're only two years apart.
[00:30:27] Right.
[00:30:27] But also like.
[00:30:28] He's 13.
[00:30:29] I didn't know he was supposed to be 13.
[00:30:31] Yeah.
[00:30:31] I don't know if they tell you in the movie, but to me.
[00:30:34] He looks about 10.
[00:30:35] Yeah.
[00:30:35] No, he looks like seven.
[00:30:37] No, he does not look heaven.
[00:30:38] Yes, he does.
[00:30:38] No, he doesn't.
[00:30:39] And I was like, oh my God, am I watching a seven year old like do all of these things
[00:30:43] He does not look heaven.
[00:30:44] He does some meat.
[00:30:45] He looks like this tall.
[00:30:46] Yeah, he's teeny ween.
[00:30:47] It's true.
[00:30:48] But no, I think they.
[00:30:49] That is the one thing I would.
[00:30:51] They definitely should have gotten a shorter girl.
[00:30:54] That's a thing.
[00:30:55] Could have been a good call.
[00:30:56] I mean, honestly, think about it.
[00:30:58] The gender switched.
[00:30:59] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:31:00] Exactly.
[00:31:00] That would be like serious rape vibes.
[00:31:03] Yeah.
[00:31:03] Sure.
[00:31:04] It's an issue.
[00:31:05] People would not be okay.
[00:31:05] No, it's true.
[00:31:06] And that's so important.
[00:31:07] This movie did not like on purpose, not like in your face.
[00:31:12] Right.
[00:31:12] But there was like not political correctness because it was like the 90s.
[00:31:15] Oh, for sure.
[00:31:16] Quote unquote, like it was the 90s, you know?
[00:31:18] Yeah.
[00:31:18] So I definitely get that as far as.
[00:31:21] But obviously, I agree with you.
[00:31:25] Definitely the casting should have been a little different.
[00:31:26] And the casting director was a woman.
[00:31:28] I feel like she should have picked up on that a little faster.
[00:31:30] Right.
[00:31:31] But, you know, here we are.
[00:31:32] That is definitely.
[00:31:33] That's probably the one thing I would change.
[00:31:35] Honestly, I would even be okay with it.
[00:31:36] If he seemed like a little bit damaged by it.
[00:31:40] After.
[00:31:41] But he was just like.
[00:31:42] And of course, he's going to say to his friends, it was awesome.
[00:31:44] No matter what.
[00:31:45] Yeah.
[00:31:45] Yeah.
[00:31:45] I don't know.
[00:31:47] Yeah.
[00:31:47] Yeah.
[00:31:48] It's a mess.
[00:31:50] Yeah.
[00:31:50] That was definitely the low point for me.
[00:31:53] I said, oh, this smells so good.
[00:31:55] Especially these days.
[00:31:55] And for that part of the movie, I was alone too.
[00:31:58] Yeah.
[00:31:58] Because the theater was empty.
[00:31:59] Oh, right.
[00:31:59] And I watched the rest of it.
[00:32:00] And I was like.
[00:32:01] I wish I had someone to look at.
[00:32:03] Freaking out.
[00:32:03] Freaking out.
[00:32:05] Did you feel weird about that part?
[00:32:06] I didn't think much about it.
[00:32:08] But now that you say it.
[00:32:09] I mean.
[00:32:10] Yeah.
[00:32:10] Yeah.
[00:32:12] That's okay.
[00:32:12] It's a tad awkward, you know?
[00:32:14] Yeah.
[00:32:14] As soon as they started talking to each other, I was like.
[00:32:17] No.
[00:32:17] I knew it from the trailer.
[00:32:18] And I was ready for it.
[00:32:20] Like I knew it from.
[00:32:21] You know.
[00:32:22] Not as it were.
[00:32:23] Just in the literal sense.
[00:32:24] I knew it was coming.
[00:32:25] Not the expression.
[00:32:26] Ready for it.
[00:32:26] Here we go.
[00:32:28] But.
[00:32:29] So I kind of knew that was a foot.
[00:32:31] Yeah.
[00:32:32] Definitely.
[00:32:32] Just a shorter.
[00:32:33] I mean.
[00:32:34] Could have even been the same age.
[00:32:36] It's a shame.
[00:32:36] You know?
[00:32:37] Yeah.
[00:32:37] Because people all have different paths.
[00:32:39] But.
[00:32:40] You know.
[00:32:43] What can you do, Chloe?
[00:32:44] You know?
[00:32:45] I can't do anything now.
[00:32:46] Yeah.
[00:32:47] It's out.
[00:32:47] You know.
[00:32:47] It's made.
[00:32:48] It's not going to keep me from watching.
[00:32:49] It's not like it level.
[00:32:51] You know?
[00:32:52] Oh, yeah.
[00:32:52] That pissed me off way too much for me to ever watch that again.
[00:32:54] Unless I had to go down that road again.
[00:32:55] But.
[00:32:56] Yeah.
[00:32:57] Yeah.
[00:32:59] Wow.
[00:33:03] All right.
[00:33:03] Well, anything else about mid-90s?
[00:33:06] Go watch some Spike Jonze.
[00:33:08] Yeah.
[00:33:08] Chloe, just.
[00:33:09] Go watch some kids.
[00:33:10] It's up there.
[00:33:11] Yeah.
[00:33:11] It's up there.
[00:33:11] It's not American Animal level.
[00:33:13] American Animals level.
[00:33:15] Certainly not Black Klansman level.
[00:33:18] Certainly.
[00:33:19] But I will.
[00:33:20] It's good.
[00:33:20] It's, you know.
[00:33:21] It was like.
[00:33:22] Rising up.
[00:33:23] It was just kind of like what I needed.
[00:33:24] Yeah.
[00:33:24] I was not super excited to go into it.
[00:33:27] But I was like.
[00:33:28] Really?
[00:33:28] Okay.
[00:33:28] I'm here for this.
[00:33:29] I had expectations going into it.
[00:33:30] I loved the trailer.
[00:33:32] Yeah, yeah.
[00:33:32] I really did.
[00:33:33] Interesting.
[00:33:33] I was nervous.
[00:33:34] For some reason.
[00:33:35] I don't even know why.
[00:33:35] But I was nervous about it from the get-go.
[00:33:37] I think because.
[00:33:38] Like you.
[00:33:38] It was too nostalgic for you.
[00:33:39] I thought it was going to be.
[00:33:41] Right.
[00:33:41] Nostalgic.
[00:33:42] And I didn't feel.
[00:33:42] I didn't feel the nostalgia.
[00:33:44] Like every scene.
[00:33:45] So they could show all the different.
[00:33:46] Like because in my mind.
[00:33:47] They just collected.
[00:33:49] Like somebody got really excited about 90s fashion.
[00:33:52] Collected as many t-shirts.
[00:33:52] Joan Hill loves 90s fashion.
[00:33:54] Right.
[00:33:54] But it was like.
[00:33:55] Literally every scene.
[00:33:56] They're all wearing different shirts.
[00:33:58] And like the day isn't even different.
[00:34:00] Really?
[00:34:01] Yes.
[00:34:01] It was so distracting.
[00:34:03] Was that really a thing?
[00:34:04] I didn't notice that.
[00:34:05] Usually I notice stuff like that.
[00:34:06] Huh.
[00:34:06] I'm pretty.
[00:34:07] No, no, no.
[00:34:07] I mean.
[00:34:08] I guess it's possible I'm wrong.
[00:34:09] But I mean like.
[00:34:10] Five minutes into the movie.
[00:34:12] Like Omar leaned over to me.
[00:34:13] And was like.
[00:34:14] They're wearing different shirts.
[00:34:15] Every scene.
[00:34:15] So I didn't notice it myself.
[00:34:16] That was him.
[00:34:17] But.
[00:34:18] Hmm.
[00:34:18] After he said it.
[00:34:19] I was like.
[00:34:20] Oh my God.
[00:34:20] Yeah, I don't know.
[00:34:21] To be fair though.
[00:34:22] Again, when I was little.
[00:34:23] I was obsessed with my t-shirt collection.
[00:34:25] I still just change all the time.
[00:34:27] I.
[00:34:27] Right.
[00:34:28] Yeah, I probably change three times a day.
[00:34:30] But it's more for practicality reasons.
[00:34:32] But you don't do that in movies.
[00:34:34] Because it's confusing.
[00:34:35] In no movie I've been in.
[00:34:36] I've done that.
[00:34:37] That's true.
[00:34:38] No, I just mean.
[00:34:39] You know.
[00:34:39] No, no.
[00:34:40] That's how you know it's the same day.
[00:34:42] When they change scenes.
[00:34:42] Yeah, yeah.
[00:34:43] I'm not confident it was the same day though.
[00:34:45] Because that movie moved pretty fast.
[00:34:47] Does that mean I have to watch it again?
[00:34:49] I'll re-watch it.
[00:34:50] Don't be unbiased.
[00:34:51] I will let you know the facts.
[00:34:52] Be honest, okay?
[00:34:53] Always.
[00:34:54] If you're listening, Jonah, let us know.
[00:34:55] Yeah.
[00:34:56] Let us know.
[00:34:57] Oh God.
[00:35:00] You like super bad, buddy?
[00:35:04] Cool.
[00:35:05] All right.
[00:35:06] Well, out of five stars, I'll go four.
[00:35:10] Oh my gosh.
[00:35:14] I mean, what qualifies us like that?
[00:35:16] I'll go next and then you can go.
[00:35:18] I give it.
[00:35:20] Lay it on us, Chloe.
[00:35:22] Okay.
[00:35:23] I give it two things.
[00:35:25] I do what I feel.
[00:35:27] I'm over the stars.
[00:35:28] You know what I mean?
[00:35:29] We're past that.
[00:35:30] I do give it like 97 stars though, right?
[00:35:32] Sure.
[00:35:32] But I give it like when I was little and my sister decided.
[00:35:37] Phone's ringing.
[00:35:38] Sorry.
[00:35:39] Oh my God, it's my sister.
[00:35:41] Wow.
[00:35:41] Wow.
[00:35:42] Okay, we do this sometimes.
[00:35:43] We are clear.
[00:35:44] Hello, Gemma.
[00:35:45] Hey bud, what are you up to?
[00:35:46] Oh, you don't sound.
[00:35:47] We're on the podcast.
[00:35:49] I'm on the podcast.
[00:35:52] Hey, Gemma.
[00:35:54] Hi, Henry.
[00:35:55] How's it going?
[00:35:56] Oh, it's going fine.
[00:35:56] How are you?
[00:35:57] Oh, I'm doing pretty well.
[00:36:00] Gemma, I mentioned how I am appreciative of the fact that you did not take out your issues
[00:36:05] on me when we were children.
[00:36:10] It's going deep.
[00:36:10] It's really nice to say.
[00:36:11] Yeah.
[00:36:13] Okay.
[00:36:13] Hopefully they're all resolved now.
[00:36:15] Yeah, I think so.
[00:36:16] But I have to sue you for libel.
[00:36:20] I hope you have a great day.
[00:36:21] Okay, love you.
[00:36:23] Love you too.
[00:36:24] I'll call you later.
[00:36:25] So long.
[00:36:25] Okay, bye.
[00:36:26] She did stuff me in a dryer once.
[00:36:28] That's the only thing you ever did, but anyway.
[00:36:30] We were playing hide and go seek.
[00:36:31] No.
[00:36:33] Okay, love you.
[00:36:35] Love you too.
[00:36:36] No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[00:36:37] That's not what happened.
[00:36:38] I was four, so she was 11.
[00:36:40] And she was like, let's play hide and go seek, Chloe.
[00:36:41] You hide in the dryer, and I'll look for you.
[00:36:46] And she obviously-
[00:36:46] Quote, unquote, hide in the dryer.
[00:36:48] Yeah, and she left me in the dryer for like an hour.
[00:36:50] But that, I don't know what happened that day.
[00:36:52] That was like the one time she ever did anything mean to me.
[00:36:54] So it's not that bad.
[00:36:55] She's better big sister than I was.
[00:36:58] No, Anna Cleve.
[00:36:59] You're a great big sister.
[00:37:00] No?
[00:37:01] No, I had like physical fights with my siblings.
[00:37:04] And my sister was five years younger than me.
[00:37:06] Okay.
[00:37:07] She was big.
[00:37:08] Right.
[00:37:08] Like, so, and I was little, so it was more even.
[00:37:11] But I still like beat the crap out of her sometimes.
[00:37:13] I beat the crap out of my sister, and she let me.
[00:37:16] She was a very good big sister.
[00:37:17] No, this was like she was crying.
[00:37:19] I also convinced her that the fan in the bathroom was a monster.
[00:37:23] She was like, oh, I'm sorry.
[00:37:31] I'm sorry.
[00:37:37] She was like, oh, I'm sorry.
[00:37:47] I'm sorry.
[00:37:48] I'm sorry.
[00:37:50] I'm sorry.
[00:37:52] I'm sorry.
[00:37:53] I was like, oh, I'm sorry.
[00:37:59] I was like, oh, I'm sorry.
[00:38:18] I really don't think that influenced me liking the movie.
[00:38:21] No?
[00:38:21] I, honest, honest to God.
[00:38:23] Honestly.
[00:38:24] Hey, now.
[00:38:25] Do I like every soccer movie?
[00:38:26] No.
[00:38:27] I have no idea.
[00:38:28] I don't.
[00:38:28] I mean, there are a lot of bad soccer movies out there.
[00:38:30] It's true.
[00:38:31] Oh, now I want to go watch a soccer movie.
[00:38:33] Have you seen Goal?
[00:38:34] It's the best movie of all time.
[00:38:36] Chloe, have you seen Goal?
[00:38:37] No.
[00:38:38] No?
[00:38:39] With who?
[00:38:39] I don't know.
[00:38:40] Just people in it.
[00:38:41] I don't know.
[00:38:42] I don't.
[00:38:42] It's a lot of no names.
[00:38:43] What is it?
[00:38:44] It's a soccer movie about this guy becoming a soccer player in the English Premier League.
[00:38:49] Hmm.
[00:38:50] Yeah.
[00:38:50] I haven't watched it like 10 years ago.
[00:38:52] I might have seen it.
[00:38:53] I don't remember.
[00:38:54] Have you seen that one with David Tennant and Sam Claflin?
[00:38:56] I don't know who either of those are.
[00:38:58] You don't know who D10 is?
[00:38:59] What the F is wrong with you?
[00:39:01] I met him.
[00:39:02] What?
[00:39:02] You've met like everybody.
[00:39:04] I met him in England.
[00:39:05] Where?
[00:39:06] What?
[00:39:06] What's he been in?
[00:39:07] In Soho.
[00:39:08] He's effing Doctor Who.
[00:39:10] No, I don't watch Doctor Who, bro.
[00:39:11] His name is David Tennant.
[00:39:13] Yeah, but he was in Brodcher.
[00:39:14] He's from one of the most famous.
[00:39:15] He's super famous.
[00:39:17] Okay.
[00:39:18] All right.
[00:39:19] He's like one of those British actors that's so high up.
[00:39:22] He's going to be in Good Omens.
[00:39:23] You know how Harry Potter was filled with tons of like high quality actors?
[00:39:25] He was even in Effing.
[00:39:26] Yeah.
[00:39:27] He was in Harry Potter as Barney Crouch Jr.
[00:39:29] I mean a small character.
[00:39:30] No, well not that small.
[00:39:31] For that movie, it was a very integral character.
[00:39:34] Yes.
[00:39:34] Wow.
[00:39:35] Okay.
[00:39:35] There was a lot of responsibility.
[00:39:37] Yeah.
[00:39:37] It wasn't the most great time.
[00:39:38] It was a lot of responsibility.
[00:39:39] Yeah.
[00:39:39] Whatever, Henry.
[00:39:40] Sorry.
[00:39:40] Sorry, man.
[00:39:41] Shakespearean actor.
[00:39:42] I should show you our selfie in a clip.
[00:39:45] Yeah.
[00:39:45] My God, I need to know.
[00:39:46] I met Arthur Darvill.
[00:39:49] Where?
[00:39:49] Well, I went to the show that he was in.
[00:39:51] Oh my God, I love Arthur Darvill.
[00:39:53] What show is he in?
[00:39:53] He was in Gordon.
[00:39:54] He was in, oh my God, what's it called?
[00:39:56] Oh, I don't remember now.
[00:39:57] It was, I don't remember what it's called, but I've seen it twice.
[00:40:00] Was it good?
[00:40:01] Yeah.
[00:40:01] It's really good.
[00:40:02] It's like about this, I think they're Irish or whatever.
[00:40:06] He's like a vacuum cleaner fixer.
[00:40:07] But he wants to be a musician and the whole, the-
[00:40:11] Is it death of a salesman?
[00:40:13] No, but the stage is a bar and then they change it into other things with a spotlight
[00:40:18] from above to make a little room.
[00:40:21] Oh, I like it.
[00:40:21] It's a really beautifully done show.
[00:40:23] And he sang and everything in it and played the guitar.
[00:40:25] Wow.
[00:40:25] And the band is up on stage too.
[00:40:27] Oh, that's cool.
[00:40:28] Yeah.
[00:40:28] Yeah.
[00:40:29] The most recent famous person I've met is Henry Knows the Answer, huh?
[00:40:34] Huh?
[00:40:35] I'm trying to keep you in the combo.
[00:40:37] What?
[00:40:38] She's talking about the most recent famous person she met was.
[00:40:41] Army?
[00:40:42] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:42] I'm him.
[00:40:43] You know who that is?
[00:40:44] Probably not.
[00:40:44] I met Tom Skerritt when I was in Seattle.
[00:40:48] Really?
[00:40:48] Do you know him?
[00:40:49] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:51] All right.
[00:40:52] Most people don't know who he is.
[00:40:54] Our age, our age.
[00:40:55] Yeah, yeah, right.
[00:40:56] Fair enough.
[00:40:57] Met Henry Winkler in an airport.
[00:40:59] Mm.
[00:40:59] Yeah.
[00:41:00] Okay.
[00:41:00] My mom accidentally hugged him.
[00:41:01] Of course you did.
[00:41:02] Because there's that thing where like you see them and you like don't know you don't
[00:41:05] know them.
[00:41:05] Yeah.
[00:41:05] Like what happened with Danny Radcliffe and me.
[00:41:07] It was the same reason he liked me.
[00:41:08] You don't know I talked to Danny Radcliffe?
[00:41:10] Oh my God.
[00:41:11] He got me hot chocolate.
[00:41:12] You have to stop because you're going to make me like-
[00:41:14] Sorry.
[00:41:15] I'm getting hot.
[00:41:15] You're going to stab me?
[00:41:16] Yeah.
[00:41:16] No.
[00:41:17] I'm like getting like stimulated.
[00:41:19] Cool.
[00:41:20] Okay.
[00:41:21] All right.
[00:41:21] All right.
[00:41:21] I have to give this movie stars, right?
[00:41:23] Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:41:23] If you don't mind.
[00:41:24] I mean, I'll give the trailer like four stars.
[00:41:27] It's a good effing trailer.
[00:41:28] Yeah.
[00:41:29] But the movie, I mean, I kind of don't want to give it any stars.
[00:41:32] No stars.
[00:41:32] Because if I leave a movie 30 minutes in.
[00:41:34] Yeah.
[00:41:35] And only go back to finish it because I'm going to talk about it on a podcast and want
[00:41:38] to be vindicated in my hatred.
[00:41:40] Which by the way, I read the summary before I went back and it didn't add anything.
[00:41:43] Right.
[00:41:44] I think it's one of those visceral movies.
[00:41:47] So you're about to drink or not.
[00:41:48] Yeah.
[00:41:49] You know?
[00:41:49] Yeah.
[00:41:50] I was super about it.
[00:41:51] Is that okay?
[00:41:52] Am I allowed to give it any?
[00:41:52] That's fine.
[00:41:53] I've given negative 86,000 stars.
[00:41:57] To a good feeling.
[00:41:58] Okay.
[00:41:58] I'm not that dramatic.
[00:41:59] But basically my zero is her negative 86.
[00:42:02] No.
[00:42:03] We're pretty well on here with the stars.
[00:42:06] Okay.
[00:42:06] All right.
[00:42:06] Well, cool.
[00:42:08] That was a good one.
[00:42:10] So I guess we can do our retro review of-
[00:42:13] American Honey.
[00:42:14] American Honey from 2016.
[00:42:16] And just as Chloe said, take a listen to a clip.
[00:42:20] So tell me, what was it that you don't agree with that Jake does?
[00:42:29] The lying?
[00:42:31] He ain't lying.
[00:42:32] He's selling.
[00:42:34] That's his job.
[00:42:37] I don't get what you want.
[00:42:39] You want to make money or you don't.
[00:42:41] I want to make money.
[00:42:42] What?
[00:42:43] I want to make money.
[00:42:45] She just needs more time.
[00:42:48] I'm good with the wild ones, you know?
[00:42:51] I'm not a fucking cow.
[00:42:53] It costs me when you don't earn.
[00:42:54] Do you get that?
[00:42:55] This shit, the motel, the gas, everything, that costs me.
[00:42:59] And I can't run my business like that.
[00:43:03] So you show me you can do it or I'll leave you on the side of the road.
[00:43:06] Clear?
[00:43:08] Crystal.
[00:43:09] Crystal.
[00:43:10] Is that a joke?
[00:43:13] No.
[00:43:15] Okay, so American Honey was released in 2016 and is directed by, written and directed
[00:43:23] by Andrea Arnold.
[00:43:25] There she is.
[00:43:26] Andrea.
[00:43:27] Andrea.
[00:43:27] Yeah, who also did Fish Tank.
[00:43:28] And it stars Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, Riley Coe.
[00:43:34] That's about it.
[00:43:35] Yeah, for big names.
[00:43:37] And then the synopsis is a teenage girl with nothing to lose joins a traveling magazine sales
[00:43:42] crew and gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending, and young love
[00:43:46] as she crisscrosses the Midwest with a band of misfits.
[00:43:53] So, yeah, this one, I mean.
[00:43:56] It got some acclaim.
[00:43:57] Got some, definitely got some acclaim, yeah.
[00:43:59] Wasn't this her first movie?
[00:44:01] No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[00:44:02] Her first few movies were shown at like Sundance and all that stuff, right?
[00:44:06] And they were a huge deal.
[00:44:08] Then the third one wasn't, and that one actually was my least favorite.
[00:44:11] Not trying to bandwag in here.
[00:44:12] And then this one was a big deal.
[00:44:14] Yeah, yeah.
[00:44:16] Yeah, I Wikipedia'd her.
[00:44:19] It was intrigued.
[00:44:20] Yeah.
[00:44:20] Actually, I just wanted to know if the person who wrote it was poor when they were growing
[00:44:24] up or not.
[00:44:25] I think so.
[00:44:27] I was researching her validity.
[00:44:28] Because basically every movie she's made is about.
[00:44:31] Yeah, that's what I read.
[00:44:32] Poe peeps.
[00:44:33] Yeah.
[00:44:34] Again, again, kind of a Harmony Corrine kind of type of deal.
[00:44:40] Obviously not his direction style, but like similar, kind of Florida Project-y, kind
[00:44:45] of similar.
[00:44:46] Yes.
[00:44:46] That type of filmmaking, yeah.
[00:44:49] Yeah.
[00:44:49] For sure.
[00:44:50] Yeah, well, I love the movie.
[00:44:52] I know you do.
[00:44:53] I do too.
[00:44:54] Yeah.
[00:44:56] Which is, again, weird.
[00:44:57] It's just incredibly-
[00:44:58] It's like not my kind of deal, but I really like it.
[00:45:00] Yeah.
[00:45:01] I find it really enthralling.
[00:45:02] Like, it's one of those things where you're like, I don't know why I'm so involved in this.
[00:45:05] I guess it's just good filmmaking.
[00:45:06] Yeah.
[00:45:07] That's not my-
[00:45:07] Yeah, I mean, it's very raw and very realistic and, I mean, not always in a nice way.
[00:45:13] No.
[00:45:14] Robbie Ryan, though.
[00:45:15] Am I right?
[00:45:18] The cinematographer, Robbie Ryan?
[00:45:19] Oh, yeah.
[00:45:19] Yeah, yeah.
[00:45:20] Oh, my God.
[00:45:20] I'm obsessed with him.
[00:45:21] Sorry.
[00:45:22] Sorry.
[00:45:23] What is he doing coming up?
[00:45:25] Sorry.
[00:45:25] I'm not going to remember.
[00:45:26] He's doing something I'm excited for coming up.
[00:45:29] Check.
[00:45:29] Yeah, look that up.
[00:45:30] Let us know.
[00:45:31] Me?
[00:45:32] Them?
[00:45:33] But this was Sasha Lane's-
[00:45:35] Debut.
[00:45:35] Yeah, real debut.
[00:45:37] She got-
[00:45:37] She's incredible in it.
[00:45:38] She got discovered on spring break in Panama City.
[00:45:43] Interesting.
[00:45:44] Yeah.
[00:45:44] Oh, my God.
[00:45:44] Fish Tank Lady was discovered on the subway, underground, whatever.
[00:45:48] Two very different places.
[00:45:50] Yeah.
[00:45:51] And Shia LaBeouf is great in it as well.
[00:45:54] Do you all like his-
[00:45:56] You know I have a moment with Shia LaBeouf.
[00:45:58] What kind of moment?
[00:45:59] Not a good one.
[00:46:00] No.
[00:46:00] I like-
[00:46:01] Low-key hate it.
[00:46:01] This is by far my favorite thing he's ever been in.
[00:46:03] Right.
[00:46:04] Sorry, even Stevens.
[00:46:05] The movie.
[00:46:06] I think it's probably one of his best performances.
[00:46:08] Yeah.
[00:46:08] For sure.
[00:46:09] He's really good.
[00:46:10] Do you like his Jedi braid?
[00:46:12] Yeah.
[00:46:12] Actually, I did.
[00:46:14] That does not surprise me, Claire.
[00:46:17] Sure.
[00:46:18] You're either going to love it or hate it, I guess.
[00:46:20] It's a visceral thing.
[00:46:22] Yeah.
[00:46:23] No.
[00:46:23] Yep.
[00:46:24] Yeah.
[00:46:25] No, by far his best performance, if you ask me.
[00:46:27] Shia LaBeouf, I don't know if you know this yet, Claire.
[00:46:29] We've talked about this on the podcast before because I'm obsessed with it.
[00:46:31] It's like the most Shia LaBeouf thing so far.
[00:46:33] You know he had that movie marathon where he live-streamed himself watching all his movies?
[00:46:38] Mm-hmm.
[00:46:38] Okay.
[00:46:38] So he's now written and is directing a movie about his relationship with his father.
[00:46:43] He's playing his father.
[00:46:44] And Lucas Hedges, the older brother in mid-'90s, is playing Shia LaBeouf.
[00:46:49] I heard that he wasn't playing himself in a movie about himself.
[00:46:53] Yeah, he's playing his dad.
[00:46:56] Yeah.
[00:46:56] Also for at least a decade.
[00:46:58] No, probably 15 years, I thought his name was Shia LaBeouf.
[00:47:02] What?
[00:47:03] Jew.
[00:47:03] Who knew?
[00:47:04] I can say that.
[00:47:05] It's been established on the show.
[00:47:06] I always say Jew.
[00:47:08] Yeah.
[00:47:08] Yeah.
[00:47:10] I mean, it makes sense if that's how you operate your daily life.
[00:47:15] It is.
[00:47:15] Yeah.
[00:47:16] I know.
[00:47:16] It definitely is.
[00:47:18] Yeah.
[00:47:18] But I mean, it's definitely just a very great look into American Midwest culture and just
[00:47:27] kind of the pretty stuff and not the not-so-pretty stuff as well.
[00:47:30] It's based on a New...
[00:47:32] Have you read the article it's based on?
[00:47:33] No.
[00:47:34] It's based on a New York Times article from 2000 and something.
[00:47:40] About what?
[00:47:41] Obviously.
[00:47:41] About like a group of...
[00:47:45] Okay.
[00:47:45] Okay.
[00:47:45] Yeah.
[00:47:46] I can't remember the expression, but literally the magazine caravan of traveling people.
[00:47:53] Yeah.
[00:47:54] I was curious because I feel like sometimes...
[00:47:56] I don't know.
[00:47:57] There are some things I would have cut out of this movie.
[00:47:59] Mm-hmm.
[00:48:00] And so I was curious if the magazine or the article talked about it.
[00:48:04] Dove into those specific things?
[00:48:05] Yeah.
[00:48:05] I get it.
[00:48:06] Because sometimes I understand more if they don't cut something out, if it's like from
[00:48:09] their inspiration.
[00:48:10] Yeah.
[00:48:10] Yeah.
[00:48:10] I know why it's harder.
[00:48:11] I still think they should cut it out.
[00:48:12] Right.
[00:48:13] Yeah.
[00:48:14] Well, I mean, with that, is the runtime an issue for you?
[00:48:16] It's two hours and 40 minutes.
[00:48:18] So it's definitely long.
[00:48:19] It should be an issue for me, but it really wasn't because I was so into it.
[00:48:22] For me, it's not usually.
[00:48:23] I know.
[00:48:24] I know.
[00:48:24] I actually didn't finish this movie.
[00:48:27] Oh, really?
[00:48:28] I think I will give it more stars at the end.
[00:48:32] Okay.
[00:48:32] Because I did like a lot of it and I really didn't like anything of mid-90s.
[00:48:39] But yeah, I mean, I don't know.
[00:48:41] It started making me really sad and I just wasn't willing to be that sad for a movie
[00:48:47] that I wasn't 100% invested in.
[00:48:49] Yeah.
[00:48:51] Yeah.
[00:48:52] I guess, too.
[00:48:54] If that makes sense.
[00:48:55] I feel like it kind of went off track.
[00:48:57] I thought it was going to be like about this specific thing and then it kind of-
[00:49:01] And clearly I love some plot.
[00:49:02] Yeah.
[00:49:04] That's what I'm getting.
[00:49:05] I mean, every time I watch a movie, I think about if I could make the plot better.
[00:49:09] Okay.
[00:49:10] So, or if I could write it better because I'm looking at it from like a writing perspective.
[00:49:15] So.
[00:49:16] Well, I'm curious to see what the script looked like for this movie.
[00:49:19] It was a lot of improvisation.
[00:49:20] That's what I would think.
[00:49:22] Interesting.
[00:49:22] Yeah.
[00:49:22] Like almost completely.
[00:49:23] Definitely a lot of non-actors as well.
[00:49:25] Yeah.
[00:49:25] As we mentioned.
[00:49:26] But it was so totally unnoticeable.
[00:49:28] Can I say something about mid-90s?
[00:49:30] Please.
[00:49:30] I forgot to say earlier.
[00:49:31] So there's this one scene where they're playing video games, the two brothers, and they're
[00:49:34] totally not playing video games.
[00:49:37] It's so freaking obvious and it killed me.
[00:49:41] I was like-
[00:49:41] That is a fair pet peeve.
[00:49:42] I don't play video games, so I didn't notice that, but that's fair enough.
[00:49:45] I mean, I don't play video games, but-
[00:49:47] Oh.
[00:49:47] I did.
[00:49:48] I didn't notice it.
[00:49:49] Huh.
[00:49:51] I'll have to go back and check that one out.
[00:49:53] I'm surprised though.
[00:49:53] I feel like-
[00:49:54] God, I'm so scared I'm going to be wrong about all of these things.
[00:49:56] Well, with that one, I will say I feel like Joan Hill would honestly have them playing
[00:50:00] a video game from the 90s.
[00:50:01] I know.
[00:50:02] That might be the-
[00:50:03] I wouldn't be-
[00:50:04] I mean, because to me it looks like they kept stop playing.
[00:50:07] Like they kept stopping because they're focused on saying their lines and then when they were
[00:50:12] quiet, they would start playing again.
[00:50:14] And I guess someone could argue that's like how you would talk in real life, but I don't-
[00:50:17] I think if you weren't trying to remember what you were going to say, you wouldn't talk like that.
[00:50:22] Yeah.
[00:50:24] I love the relationship between Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf.
[00:50:30] Yeah.
[00:50:30] Like it's kind of gritty, but it's compelling.
[00:50:33] Oh yeah, it's bad, but it makes so many feelings.
[00:50:36] Yeah.
[00:50:39] And just how they, how she kind of gets into the group and then how you see how that group
[00:50:44] operates through Riley Coe and then with Shia LaBeouf kind of being the, appearing like
[00:50:52] he's got it all under control and he's, you know, overseeing everything, but it's not really
[00:50:57] that.
[00:50:58] Yeah.
[00:50:59] Ugh.
[00:50:59] But I thought the parts that were written were so good.
[00:51:03] Like it just, you really, at least I really like felt not for her, but like with her
[00:51:08] like the whole time.
[00:51:09] Like when she found out that he gave, he gives stickers to everybody.
[00:51:13] I said, no.
[00:51:15] Which was so compelling to me.
[00:51:17] When she found out the thing with the Rihanna song, I said, no.
[00:51:20] Yeah.
[00:51:21] We've all been there.
[00:51:22] We've all been there, right?
[00:51:22] No, that's literally, I mean, especially, I don't know.
[00:51:25] I feel like maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like it's almost like a girl thing because of the
[00:51:34] way girls like are brought up.
[00:51:36] Brought up to fantasize.
[00:51:38] It's what a little movie is about.
[00:51:39] And to expect like guys to come to them.
[00:51:41] And like the whole American Dream concept, it all feeds in.
[00:51:43] Like it was, you know, it's called American Honey.
[00:51:45] It was all really intentional, I think, on her.
[00:51:47] That's why sometimes you got to get that female render director.
[00:51:51] You got to get that in there.
[00:51:52] Because it's the same thing with Greta Gerwig and Lady Bird.
[00:51:55] Like there's so many nuances that just can't be appreciated from.
[00:51:58] A male.
[00:51:58] I think.
[00:51:59] Well, they can, but you know what I mean.
[00:52:01] You know what I mean.
[00:52:01] There was some point when I felt like, oh, that's one reason I was really disappointed.
[00:52:07] Okay.
[00:52:07] I have to remember to talk about that.
[00:52:09] But I think maybe part of the reason I looked up the writer is because I thought, is this
[00:52:15] written or directed by a woman?
[00:52:17] By a woman.
[00:52:17] Because I felt like maybe it was by a man for a second.
[00:52:19] Yeah.
[00:52:20] But it might have just been because the stuff with her and Shia was so on point that I was
[00:52:25] like flashing back to.
[00:52:27] I don't know.
[00:52:28] Because there was a lot of, to me, like undertones of like manipulation.
[00:52:31] Oh, absolutely.
[00:52:32] Oh, Barry.
[00:52:33] On his part, which was like.
[00:52:35] Yeah.
[00:52:35] Well, so this is the whole thing with, again, these two.
[00:52:38] Sometimes I'm like, where the F is Henry coming from with these retros?
[00:52:42] But this one was on point.
[00:52:44] Thank you.
[00:52:44] I like this one.
[00:52:45] Even though I didn't finish it.
[00:52:46] But yeah, but like, I mean, like the connection between the two, like there are so many.
[00:52:51] And you couldn't have known because, right?
[00:52:52] Because you told the, you told me the retro before you saw it, right?
[00:52:56] Or no?
[00:52:56] Right.
[00:52:57] Yeah.
[00:52:57] There were so, he's good.
[00:52:58] He's like a weird psychic about that.
[00:53:00] I must say.
[00:53:00] Yeah.
[00:53:01] He's really good at that.
[00:53:01] Thank you.
[00:53:02] No, no.
[00:53:03] Except for those types that tell you to change it and you do.
[00:53:05] So thank you for that too.
[00:53:06] We won't mention those.
[00:53:07] There are a lot of those.
[00:53:08] All the best ones.
[00:53:09] No, I'm just kidding.
[00:53:09] I'm not really psychic about that, I guess.
[00:53:11] Yes, you are.
[00:53:16] Idealistic, you know, this naivety that blossomed into like an idealistic view on things and
[00:53:22] you're on the outside and be like, let me just help you.
[00:53:25] Like, but you can't because it's not at work.
[00:53:26] I'm like, ugh.
[00:53:28] Yeah.
[00:53:28] Yeah.
[00:53:29] I know, I love in terms of like showing kind of both sides.
[00:53:34] I think the scene with the truck driver is really effective where it's this very nice
[00:53:40] conversation.
[00:53:40] Like he's a family guy and then you see what he's carrying and where they are.
[00:53:44] Yeah.
[00:53:45] You know?
[00:53:46] So stuff like that is very effective, you know?
[00:53:49] Absolutely.
[00:53:50] It's not really exploitative either.
[00:53:51] Mm-mm.
[00:53:52] You know?
[00:53:52] It reminds me a little bit of.
[00:53:53] It could be, but it's not.
[00:53:54] It's a little, the way that the thought process I think that went into Korea is similar to
[00:53:58] like parts of the Florida project.
[00:54:01] Not just because of the other alignments, but like the whole thing with like the bathroom
[00:54:05] thing, you know what I mean?
[00:54:06] Yeah.
[00:54:06] The bathtub, whatever.
[00:54:07] Yeah.
[00:54:08] Yeah.
[00:54:08] Yeah.
[00:54:09] And I think the one scene that's really entertaining is the one with the, when they go to the,
[00:54:15] that woman's house with, who has a little girl who's having the party.
[00:54:18] I think that's a great scene.
[00:54:19] It is.
[00:54:20] That gets you though, doesn't it?
[00:54:22] Yeah.
[00:54:22] Oh, the, I will say one of the things in the article was the fight thing.
[00:54:26] The fight component where they had to fight each other.
[00:54:28] Oh.
[00:54:29] That was from the article.
[00:54:30] Okay.
[00:54:30] But I can support that.
[00:54:31] Yeah.
[00:54:32] I thought that was interesting.
[00:54:33] Just saying.
[00:54:39] I was saying wardrobe.
[00:54:41] I muffled my words.
[00:54:43] Sorry.
[00:54:43] You got it.
[00:54:43] Thank you.
[00:54:44] We got there.
[00:54:45] Okay.
[00:54:45] It was getting a little warm.
[00:54:46] It's because we were talking about Shia.
[00:54:49] The Jedi braid.
[00:54:51] Yeah.
[00:54:51] I tried to tough it out, but it overcame me in the end.
[00:54:53] Yeah.
[00:54:54] Fair enough.
[00:54:54] I don't remember what I was going to say.
[00:54:56] Nobody.
[00:54:56] Oh, I have.
[00:54:57] Okay.
[00:54:57] So in the party scene, that reminded me so much of my house.
[00:55:02] Really?
[00:55:02] I know.
[00:55:04] But I think.
[00:55:04] Ranked true.
[00:55:06] Well, I mean, and really though, when like girls having these like big parties and like
[00:55:10] wanting attention from guys, I mean, let's be honest, I probably was that girl.
[00:55:13] I could never dance that like sexily, even though she was 13 and looked ridiculous.
[00:55:17] She still was dancing more sexily than I could ever.
[00:55:20] Sure.
[00:55:21] But I mean, it was very honest about like upper class suspicions of like people have less
[00:55:26] money and how they can be really rude.
[00:55:28] And the way that I was able to like take in and be like, yeah, I definitely see my family
[00:55:32] behave that way.
[00:55:33] Yeah.
[00:55:33] Probably because on the table with her presence was that Kim Kardashian book.
[00:55:40] You love Kim K.
[00:55:40] I have that.
[00:55:41] I have that.
[00:55:42] Yeah.
[00:55:42] I keep my shoes on a shelf and it's at the top.
[00:55:46] It's called Selfish.
[00:55:47] Wow.
[00:55:48] Oh, is it the book of selfies?
[00:55:49] Mm-hmm.
[00:55:49] Mm-hmm.
[00:55:50] I have it because it has some of her nudes and I have this whole thing about her nudes
[00:55:53] and their place in art history.
[00:55:55] Yeah.
[00:55:56] You wrote an essay.
[00:55:57] I heard about that.
[00:55:58] A very brief, like three page paper, but still.
[00:56:00] Oh, okay.
[00:56:00] Okay.
[00:56:01] I definitely heard about it though.
[00:56:02] Yeah.
[00:56:03] Hmm.
[00:56:05] Anyway.
[00:56:06] Cool.
[00:56:07] Yeah.
[00:56:08] We might have very polar views on the Kardashians.
[00:56:10] It's okay.
[00:56:11] Yeah.
[00:56:11] It's okay.
[00:56:11] I don't support them or anything.
[00:56:13] Like I'm not, they're the, but I just think it's interesting.
[00:56:16] Well, yeah.
[00:56:19] Yeah.
[00:56:20] No, but yeah.
[00:56:22] I don't know.
[00:56:23] I just, the main reason I'm fascinated by them is because of her nudes because they're
[00:56:28] taken by her and they're mostly for other women.
[00:56:31] Right, right, right.
[00:56:32] Which is like revolutionary from an art historical perspective.
[00:56:35] Okay.
[00:56:35] Yeah.
[00:56:36] That makes sense.
[00:56:36] Yeah.
[00:56:37] But anyways, enough about the Kardashians.
[00:56:40] Always.
[00:56:41] Yeah.
[00:56:43] I don't know.
[00:56:44] Oh yeah.
[00:56:44] We were talking about that scene.
[00:56:45] Yeah.
[00:56:46] But yeah, that whole, actually that whole sequence where they're kind of running through
[00:56:49] the lawns and stuff like that is just great.
[00:56:52] Yeah.
[00:56:53] You know.
[00:56:53] I mean, I just, it's just so well put together.
[00:56:55] She all, I think she always does a good job of just creating an atmosphere.
[00:57:02] Just the whole, like I said, for you to be into it or for me to be into it, you know,
[00:57:08] I like those hour and a half tight.
[00:57:10] Yeah.
[00:57:11] For me to be into a two hour and 40 minute movie, something's got to be to it.
[00:57:15] Yeah.
[00:57:15] And I mean, are you okay with the characters being mostly kind of unlikable?
[00:57:20] Kind of.
[00:57:22] Is that something that bothers you?
[00:57:25] Like, or no?
[00:57:25] I see where you're, you know I hate that.
[00:57:27] Or they're kind of grading in a way that's kind of, I mean, it's intentional, I think,
[00:57:31] but.
[00:57:32] I mean, I think Sasha Lane is so strong, you kind of stick with it.
[00:57:35] And you're like, please, like, you just want to, yeah.
[00:57:39] Again, not, and I don't mean it in a patronizing way, but like, you can just see.
[00:57:44] She makes decisions that you can support.
[00:57:46] The issue.
[00:57:47] And you're like, I just want you to be okay because you're a good person.
[00:57:51] I just can't get through it, you know.
[00:57:52] Well, they set it up well, too.
[00:57:54] That's a star, right?
[00:57:55] Definitely, yeah.
[00:57:56] The beginning is, yeah.
[00:57:57] But then.
[00:57:57] Definitely a good setup.
[00:57:58] The beginning is, like, also, I don't know.
[00:58:01] Okay, plot again, whatever.
[00:58:03] Yeah.
[00:58:06] I don't see why it's there.
[00:58:09] Really?
[00:58:10] Yeah.
[00:58:10] I mean, I like the stuff with her dad.
[00:58:13] I mean, not like, but you know what I mean.
[00:58:14] That's her dad, right?
[00:58:16] Okay, so this is, that is a really interesting.
[00:58:18] So I read a review, I started to read a review, and it said her younger siblings, and I said
[00:58:22] there's no way.
[00:58:23] That's her.
[00:58:24] Wait, which one are we talking about here?
[00:58:26] What?
[00:58:26] Who are we talking about here?
[00:58:28] The kids at the beginning.
[00:58:30] The kids.
[00:58:30] Oh, yeah.
[00:58:31] The little kids.
[00:58:32] I was under the impression that she, I thought that she was his, like, girlfriend.
[00:58:36] No.
[00:58:37] Because there are pictures.
[00:58:38] I think that was her dad.
[00:58:38] I don't think so.
[00:58:39] So see, that's what I got.
[00:58:41] Because there are pictures on the.
[00:58:42] And then the kids are the ladies.
[00:58:43] Yeah, his.
[00:58:43] Yeah, because there are pictures on the refrigerator and stuff of the guy, obviously, the woman from
[00:58:52] the rodeo, whatever, the bar.
[00:58:55] Right.
[00:58:55] And then the two kids.
[00:58:56] Right.
[00:58:56] So that's, they're a family unit.
[00:58:58] She is a, and I think it was there to set up the fact that she can get into the, because
[00:59:02] she's so idealistic, she can get into these bad relationships.
[00:59:05] Yeah.
[00:59:06] But I read an article that said her siblings.
[00:59:08] I said, what the heck?
[00:59:09] I don't see that at all.
[00:59:09] No, no, no, no, no, no.
[00:59:10] No, but okay, come on.
[00:59:11] First of all.
[00:59:12] I think that would have been a bigger thing if it was.
[00:59:13] Yeah, I really didn't.
[00:59:14] Just based on appearance?
[00:59:15] Or the way that she gets rid of this?
[00:59:17] No, there were photos of the family.
[00:59:19] No, I know, but.
[00:59:21] I think even just through the actions.
[00:59:24] And she wouldn't have, I genuinely don't think she would have left her little
[00:59:26] siblings.
[00:59:27] Okay.
[00:59:27] Because I mean, I did have a problem with that if it was little siblings.
[00:59:29] But I like the idea of, this is so stupid, this sounds so twisted, but I like the idea
[00:59:33] of it being her dad.
[00:59:35] Yeah.
[00:59:36] I mean.
[00:59:36] I mean, it's definitely like a plausible situation.
[00:59:40] Yeah.
[00:59:41] The situation, but I think, and how it's presented is he's the.
[00:59:44] Yeah.
[00:59:45] Kind of a toxic boyfriend.
[00:59:46] And then the two kids.
[00:59:48] Because when they take the kids to the bar, the mother or the other lady makes it out
[00:59:55] to seem like it's her kids.
[00:59:56] Like, no, I don't want them though.
[00:59:57] Yeah, they are her kids.
[00:59:58] They're just kind of.
[00:59:58] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:59:59] That really made me feel like it was, she was a sister then.
[01:00:02] Mm-mm.
[01:00:03] I really didn't get that.
[01:00:04] It's not like I believe, but I just.
[01:00:06] I see them as just very.
[01:00:07] It's an issue that it's such a content that like people don't know.
[01:00:10] I think that's probably a flaw in the filmmaking.
[01:00:13] Yeah.
[01:00:13] That is very true.
[01:00:15] But I definitely, I didn't have any question about, I was positive that she was in a relationship
[01:00:21] with this man and she was caring for his kids.
[01:00:23] Yeah.
[01:00:24] Interesting.
[01:00:24] But also I don't see as much of a flaw.
[01:00:27] Like I don't see why it even really matters that much as to what it is.
[01:00:30] Well, I see it as an issue because.
[01:00:32] In terms of what it's showing.
[01:00:33] No, I know, but it's setting up her character.
[01:00:36] That is her like quote unquote backstory where you can see her out of the, before she gets
[01:00:40] involved with her real story.
[01:00:42] Right.
[01:00:42] So I think it's important to note, like I don't think she would leave her siblings.
[01:00:46] Yeah, I know.
[01:00:47] Yeah, I agree with that.
[01:00:48] Some much bigger deal if she.
[01:00:49] Because I like, I mean, that's probably part of the reason why it stopped.
[01:00:53] Right.
[01:00:53] No, I saw it and I also saw it as the setup for her being in another, like seeing this guy
[01:00:58] and just like fought, like it's probably what happened before.
[01:01:00] She was like, I'm going to be a mom of this family, blah, blah, blah.
[01:01:02] Yeah.
[01:01:03] She seems so juvenile.
[01:01:05] That's so weird.
[01:01:05] She's 18 apparently.
[01:01:07] I mean, I think she, and I was like, no, okay.
[01:01:10] But then I realized that Shalane in real life was like 20.
[01:01:12] I was like, it's only two years?
[01:01:13] God, she looks like she could be my mom.
[01:01:15] Like she's, you know, she's beautiful.
[01:01:17] Interesting.
[01:01:17] I just mean she looks a lot older than I thought she was.
[01:01:20] But anyway, no, I definitely, but I did read, like I said, I read that article and it said
[01:01:25] siblings.
[01:01:26] I totally thought.
[01:01:27] Okay.
[01:01:27] And at first when you were saying no, I thought it was because they look so different.
[01:01:31] No.
[01:01:32] I was like, but wait, I'm the only redhead in my entire family.
[01:01:35] Yeah.
[01:01:35] No.
[01:01:36] Extended.
[01:01:37] No.
[01:01:38] Living and dead.
[01:01:39] Great.
[01:01:41] Sorry.
[01:01:43] You have like the Mulan set up.
[01:01:46] You know what all your ancestors look like?
[01:01:48] Well, I mean enough that it should.
[01:01:50] Yeah.
[01:01:51] I should know.
[01:01:52] There should be one other, but there's not.
[01:01:55] I don't know.
[01:01:57] Yeah.
[01:01:57] But yeah.
[01:01:58] Anyways.
[01:01:59] Sorry.
[01:02:00] No, it's okay.
[01:02:01] It was confusing.
[01:02:01] I'm sure people have, I'm sure someone else's had not.
[01:02:04] Oh, for sure.
[01:02:04] Yeah.
[01:02:04] I mean, it's definitely left a little ambiguous, so.
[01:02:06] And I would want to know that going in.
[01:02:08] Yeah.
[01:02:09] That made a huge.
[01:02:10] Like I wish I had known.
[01:02:10] Like I said, that made a huge impact to how I viewed the movie.
[01:02:14] Well, and that totally, like you said, sets up the relationship with Shia.
[01:02:18] It sets up everything.
[01:02:19] Yeah, exactly.
[01:02:20] Exactly.
[01:02:21] Because if that was her, again, everybody's different, but I feel like if it was her dad,
[01:02:24] she'd be a lot more resistant to a relationship.
[01:02:27] Oh, I made a note about that.
[01:02:29] Yeah.
[01:02:29] I was like, why isn't she freaking out when Shia gets on top of her in the car?
[01:02:34] Yeah.
[01:02:34] Or whenever they're play wrestling.
[01:02:36] I was like, why?
[01:02:37] She just got raped by her dad.
[01:02:39] Why?
[01:02:39] Why?
[01:02:40] Oh, is that a spoiler?
[01:02:41] I don't know.
[01:02:41] Nah.
[01:02:42] Nah, I mean, we can spoil this since it's a couple years old.
[01:02:44] Yeah.
[01:02:44] Oh, okay.
[01:02:45] Yeah.
[01:02:45] Oh, okay.
[01:02:46] I get it now.
[01:02:47] Yeah.
[01:02:48] I also liked the bug thing.
[01:02:50] Bug thing.
[01:02:51] What was that?
[01:02:51] She like really did a lot of the bug close-ups.
[01:02:55] Oh, like in the bedroom and stuff?
[01:02:57] Yeah.
[01:02:57] The kids?
[01:02:58] Yeah.
[01:02:58] Yeah.
[01:02:58] Yeah.
[01:02:58] I liked that.
[01:02:59] I liked how much storytelling they did in those random shots.
[01:03:04] Yeah, exactly.
[01:03:05] Like when they went into the kids' room and there was crayon over the wall.
[01:03:07] Like that one shot of a spider crawling over crayon walls.
[01:03:11] Yeah.
[01:03:11] That tells you so much about the house they live in.
[01:03:14] Yeah.
[01:03:14] And their circumstances.
[01:03:15] Yeah.
[01:03:15] And I think the whole, even just like the opening couple of minutes with the dumpster diving
[01:03:20] and like-
[01:03:20] And the kids stabbing the chicken.
[01:03:22] Yes.
[01:03:22] That's a big moment.
[01:03:23] Great scene.
[01:03:24] Yeah.
[01:03:24] It's a big moment.
[01:03:25] Yeah.
[01:03:25] Where it's just so completely-
[01:03:27] But then why didn't he get in trouble?
[01:03:28] And the girl doing the makeup?
[01:03:29] Mm-hmm.
[01:03:30] Sorry.
[01:03:31] That bothered me that he didn't get in trouble for stabbing the chicken.
[01:03:33] Yeah.
[01:03:34] Well, I think it's a-
[01:03:35] I mean, it's just showing how directionless they are and kind of-
[01:03:38] Yeah.
[01:03:39] Yeah, exactly.
[01:03:39] Unsupervised.
[01:03:40] Well, and she's got a lot on her-
[01:03:41] That's not her priority.
[01:03:42] It also shows that she's not malicious towards them at all.
[01:03:46] Like she doesn't resent them, which I think is another part of her character.
[01:03:49] Also low-key, the chicken head melted.
[01:03:52] They showed the water in the sidewalk.
[01:03:54] So I feel like she wasn't so pissed about it.
[01:03:56] Yeah, yeah.
[01:03:57] No, for sure.
[01:03:58] But yeah.
[01:04:00] It was really fascinating.
[01:04:01] But I mean like, so let's compare those montage-y bits and how great they were-
[01:04:06] They're just different, Anna Claire.
[01:04:07] They're just different.
[01:04:08] The amount of storytelling that gets achieved though in American Honey versus mid-90s is just like a couple seconds.
[01:04:14] I think you're looking at-
[01:04:16] It wrong?
[01:04:17] I mean, I can't-
[01:04:18] No.
[01:04:18] I think you're looking at it through the scope of complexity, which is totally fair, but that's not what is storytelling to me.
[01:04:27] Like sometimes the simplicity is what can get you.
[01:04:31] Yeah.
[01:04:32] You know?
[01:04:32] Well, okay.
[01:04:33] I just mean like, does it tell you information?
[01:04:37] Right.
[01:04:38] Does that make sense?
[01:04:40] Yeah.
[01:04:40] But I don't need all the juice.
[01:04:42] No.
[01:04:42] Right.
[01:04:42] Just some of the juice.
[01:04:43] Just some of it.
[01:04:45] I definitely see what you mean though, but-
[01:04:46] Right.
[01:04:47] And so you're saying that this movie does-
[01:04:51] A lot more storytelling.
[01:04:53] Visual storytelling.
[01:04:54] A lot more information.
[01:04:56] I was struck by, I mean, not every moment.
[01:04:59] There are a lot of moments that don't have a point, but they do it very well.
[01:05:03] I also was really liked when she and Shia like met and were talking in the parking lot.
[01:05:08] Yeah.
[01:05:08] They did like an up-close shot on her thigh and like, I don't know, the shots made me feel
[01:05:13] like, you know, she was like sexually attracted to this guy and like excited to talk to him.
[01:05:18] Yeah.
[01:05:18] It was really cool to me that just because the way they cut things-
[01:05:22] Right.
[01:05:23] Zoomed in-
[01:05:23] But you can also-
[01:05:24] It can tell you so much.
[01:05:24] You can also look at, I'm not trying to get too like hoity-toity, but you can also look
[01:05:28] Not get hoity-toity.
[01:05:29] The main character, so it's directed by a woman, right?
[01:05:32] And also the main character is a woman who is like naive in a lot of ways where she's open
[01:05:38] in a lot of ways.
[01:05:39] She shouldn't.
[01:05:40] She maybe shouldn't, is not the safe or like the best idea.
[01:05:43] Like she gives herself in a lot of ways that she shouldn't.
[01:05:46] Relatable.
[01:05:46] Boys- versus like a movie about boys who have no idea what their like masculinity is.
[01:05:54] Like what they're, so the storytelling is different.
[01:05:56] Like they don't really talk to each other.
[01:05:58] I mean, it's almost like the kind of, I don't know, like directionless of a boy and then
[01:06:04] kind of the, now I'm not a girl, so I don't know, but kind of like maybe a single urge,
[01:06:10] kind of like seeing Shia LaBeouf can just immediately take her on this entire-
[01:06:13] Journey.
[01:06:14] Yeah.
[01:06:14] That's fair.
[01:06:15] The imagination.
[01:06:16] Which again, I think they, yeah.
[01:06:17] Which again, like if she had not met him that day, her life could have been completely-
[01:06:21] Right.
[01:06:21] And that's fair because it's backed up by the fact that she just went with them.
[01:06:25] Right.
[01:06:25] You know, even after she was, yeah, like low-key sexually assaulted, she was like, I'm still
[01:06:30] in because I like this boy.
[01:06:32] Like-
[01:06:32] Yeah.
[01:06:32] And then also how they show, again, with the kind of boys, Shia LaBeouf continues to just
[01:06:37] be a little all over the place.
[01:06:39] Yeah.
[01:06:39] Yeah.
[01:06:40] Where everyone else is more streamlined, kind of.
[01:06:43] I would, I would agree with the comparison, like girl-boy, if my boyfriend didn't hate
[01:06:48] mid-90s as much as I do.
[01:06:50] Well, I'm not saying, I'm saying like, I'm not saying it like that.
[01:06:52] I'm saying I think the storytelling is-
[01:06:55] Just different.
[01:06:55] Different because of the main characters.
[01:06:57] And their situations.
[01:06:58] Okay.
[01:06:58] Mm-hmm.
[01:06:59] We can agree to disagree.
[01:07:00] Yeah.
[01:07:02] It's not even about the gender so much.
[01:07:04] Okay.
[01:07:04] Or that just kind of like-
[01:07:05] Just the characters?
[01:07:05] That kind of backs it up a little bit for me.
[01:07:07] Right.
[01:07:07] Just because of, you know, inclination sometimes.
[01:07:09] And then also, I mean, American Honey kind of shows American culture, whereas mid-90s
[01:07:15] just almost just shows skateboard culture in a way.
[01:07:18] Right.
[01:07:18] So it's much more-
[01:07:19] I mean, the scope, exactly.
[01:07:20] I mean, the scope is so different.
[01:07:22] Right.
[01:07:22] Yeah.
[01:07:23] So they kind of lend themselves to whatever they're showing.
[01:07:26] But, you know.
[01:07:29] Agree to disagree.
[01:07:30] Okay.
[01:07:30] So, I was really excited at first with this movie because I thought it was going to be
[01:07:36] like an angel descending story.
[01:07:43] Like, what's the- The Green Mile.
[01:07:46] Have you seen that?
[01:07:46] Oh, yeah.
[01:07:47] So like that movie, like he comes in and like changes everything.
[01:07:53] You know what I mean?
[01:07:54] Yeah.
[01:07:54] Like brings positivity and shit.
[01:07:56] I think E.T. is also one.
[01:07:58] Love it.
[01:07:59] I mean, it literally comes from the sky.
[01:08:01] But I thought that's what they were doing with this movie and I got really excited because
[01:08:05] I thought Shia was going to be like the angel.
[01:08:07] Anna Claire loves that happy ending.
[01:08:08] I'm sorry.
[01:08:09] That's it.
[01:08:10] Anna Claire likes that plot.
[01:08:11] That happy ending.
[01:08:13] I don't necessarily- I mean, I like a lot of things.
[01:08:15] Remember we were talking about-
[01:08:16] I think you're a romantic buddy.
[01:08:20] Take a breath, you know?
[01:08:21] It's okay.
[01:08:22] I know.
[01:08:22] I feel so insulted.
[01:08:23] It's okay.
[01:08:25] I'm a romantic too.
[01:08:26] I mean, for that storyline specifically to work though, they have to bring positivity
[01:08:32] because it's like a- I don't know.
[01:08:34] For that specific trope or whatever.
[01:08:37] Right.
[01:08:38] So then it didn't turn out to be that way.
[01:08:40] Right.
[01:08:40] But I mean, they did such a good job of setting up a hellscape.
[01:08:45] Hellscape.
[01:08:45] Well, that's why I love that it didn't happen because that's life.
[01:08:48] Oh my God.
[01:08:49] But movies aren't life.
[01:08:51] You sure?
[01:08:52] Yeah.
[01:08:52] Well, some of them aren't.
[01:08:53] I think- I think- I mean, again, it's what you want out of it too, of course.
[01:08:59] I think- I've never lived this life.
[01:09:03] Right.
[01:09:03] I'm glad to have seen a part of it in a relatively-
[01:09:06] in certainly a relatable way because, again, Star was relatable in a lot of ways.
[01:09:12] But also, I don't know if you've seen- I keep bringing up the Florida Project.
[01:09:15] No, I was actually just about to bring up the same thing.
[01:09:16] Because it's just like on the front of my mind.
[01:09:17] But like, you want to-
[01:09:18] Because that life could easily happen.
[01:09:20] I didn't live it, but it's something that could very-
[01:09:22] I'm sure it does.
[01:09:23] It's all circumstance.
[01:09:24] You know, you can't be proud of-
[01:09:25] My family says it's like, you can't be proud of how you were born.
[01:09:28] You got to do something to be-
[01:09:30] You know what I mean?
[01:09:30] Yeah.
[01:09:31] So it's like that kind of thing.
[01:09:32] So I definitely see where you're coming from though.
[01:09:34] And that is like low-key why I love TV.
[01:09:36] Because then you have like all this time with the characters.
[01:09:38] And in that, I'm a lot more like, give me that.
[01:09:42] Like I love TV comedies.
[01:09:43] I don't love movie comedies.
[01:09:44] Like you have that relationship building.
[01:09:46] You know what I mean?
[01:09:46] It's like a different-
[01:09:47] I go into it with a different view.
[01:09:50] Right.
[01:09:50] Different scope.
[01:09:50] Sure.
[01:09:51] Trying to-
[01:09:51] I like to learn from movies.
[01:09:53] I like to be like in love with TV shows.
[01:09:56] Right.
[01:09:56] Yeah.
[01:09:57] What I'm not saying is-
[01:09:58] We actually have a question kind of like that.
[01:09:59] Oh.
[01:10:00] Oh my God.
[01:10:01] Kind of.
[01:10:01] I love the tie-ins.
[01:10:02] Yeah.
[01:10:03] Wonderful.
[01:10:03] Yeah.
[01:10:05] So.
[01:10:06] Worth a Watch.
[01:10:07] We can all say Worth a Watch.
[01:10:08] It's on Amazon Prime, right?
[01:10:09] I don't know.
[01:10:10] No.
[01:10:11] I think I might finish it.
[01:10:12] Yeah.
[01:10:12] Worth a Watch.
[01:10:12] Yeah.
[01:10:13] It's on Amazon Prime.
[01:10:13] I told you Netflix.
[01:10:14] I'm so sorry.
[01:10:14] It used to be on Netflix though.
[01:10:16] Pretty sure.
[01:10:16] Just like knit something while you watch it.
[01:10:18] Yeah.
[01:10:18] It's a good knitting movie.
[01:10:19] That's how I live my life.
[01:10:20] Exactly.
[01:10:20] Stationary Bicycle.
[01:10:21] I tell you.
[01:10:22] It's true.
[01:10:23] Hmm.
[01:10:23] Mm-hmm.
[01:10:25] All right.
[01:10:27] Out of five?
[01:10:28] I'll go five.
[01:10:30] Yeah.
[01:10:31] It was one of my favorites of the year.
[01:10:32] I remember.
[01:10:33] Yeah.
[01:10:33] 2016.
[01:10:34] Yeah.
[01:10:34] We weren't doing the podcast then.
[01:10:35] I don't think I knew you then.
[01:10:36] We've talked about the effing movie, Henry.
[01:10:39] It's true.
[01:10:39] And I listen to you when you talk.
[01:10:41] Whoops.
[01:10:42] Sorry.
[01:10:43] For me, it's like watching Really Pretty Sunset in a Field, but you're getting bit
[01:10:46] in my mosquitoes.
[01:10:46] Okay?
[01:10:49] Which kind of happens in the movie a little bit.
[01:10:51] Yeah.
[01:10:52] Sorry, I got an email.
[01:10:53] I don't know.
[01:10:54] Real Grungled.
[01:10:55] Actually was earlier.
[01:10:56] Really?
[01:10:56] Yeah.
[01:10:58] I'm telling you, they know.
[01:10:59] They just know.
[01:11:00] It's weird.
[01:11:01] I mean, this one excited me in a lot of ways, but I have this thing where I watch stuff,
[01:11:07] and if I can come up with my own version of it that I think would be better, then I get
[01:11:11] really excited.
[01:11:12] Yeah.
[01:11:12] Which I think happened a couple times in this movie.
[01:11:14] It makes me sound really pretentious.
[01:11:16] Yeah.
[01:11:16] Uh-huh.
[01:11:18] Um, I don't know, like a two or three?
[01:11:20] Yeah.
[01:11:21] Somewhere in there.
[01:11:22] I'm going to say two and a half.
[01:11:23] Maybe.
[01:11:25] Two to three.
[01:11:25] Still feels generous for a movie I didn't finish watching.
[01:11:28] Right.
[01:11:28] But there were definitely moments I really, really loved.
[01:11:30] I mean, who knows what could happen?
[01:11:32] You know, you don't know.
[01:11:33] I read the summary.
[01:11:34] Damn it.
[01:11:35] Really?
[01:11:36] Dang.
[01:11:37] Damn it.
[01:11:38] Well, spoiled.
[01:11:39] Yeah.
[01:11:40] Like I said, I'm all about plot.
[01:11:41] Right, right, right.
[01:11:43] All right, well, cool.
[01:11:44] That's why I wouldn't read it.
[01:11:45] If I was like, you know what I mean?
[01:11:48] No, because it would still be an experience for me.
[01:11:50] There's still be.
[01:11:51] Yeah.
[01:11:52] I'm like watching it happen.
[01:11:53] But I feel like your favorite element is taken out of it.
[01:11:55] Well, no, but and then to me, rewatchability is my favorite aspect of a movie.
[01:11:59] Right, right, right.
[01:12:00] That's fair.
[01:12:01] The good ones, I should be able to read the plot summary and still be.
[01:12:04] All right.
[01:12:05] Yeah.
[01:12:05] Yeah.
[01:12:07] Anyways.
[01:12:07] Sure.
[01:12:08] Okay.
[01:12:09] All right.
[01:12:11] News.
[01:12:12] There's not, I don't have any news.
[01:12:13] I got loads of news.
[01:12:14] Oh, good.
[01:12:14] Fun.
[01:12:15] Okay.
[01:12:16] I'll go fast, though.
[01:12:17] I'll go fast.
[01:12:18] Okay.
[01:12:18] You ready?
[01:12:19] Speed round.
[01:12:19] Speed round.
[01:12:21] Okay.
[01:12:21] They're making a sequel to The Meg.
[01:12:24] Why?
[01:12:24] Nobody knows.
[01:12:25] Didn't see it.
[01:12:25] Shout out to Meg.
[01:12:26] Didn't that just come out?
[01:12:27] Yeah.
[01:12:27] Yeah, but it was also god awful.
[01:12:29] I mean, we saw it because my best friend's little sister's name is Meg and we all saw it
[01:12:33] and I thought I could use my movie pass, but that was the day movie pass decided to go
[01:12:36] kill everybody and I still hate that I have movie pass for a whole year and I'm really
[01:12:40] mad about it.
[01:12:40] Okay.
[01:12:41] Anyway, September 6th, It Chapter 2.
[01:12:44] Yeah, I'm going to see it.
[01:12:45] The first one did piss me off for that moment.
[01:12:46] I'm still going to see it.
[01:12:48] Okay.
[01:12:48] Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2, 2019.
[01:12:53] Yeah.
[01:12:53] Both of them in the one year?
[01:12:55] Yeah.
[01:12:55] Okay.
[01:12:55] Did you like Toy Story 3?
[01:12:57] I'm not a Toy Story person.
[01:12:58] Oh, I am.
[01:12:58] I'm a huge Toy Story person.
[01:13:00] I didn't like Toy Story.
[01:13:01] Really?
[01:13:01] Yeah, I saw it with Kaylee and she cried.
[01:13:03] Did you know Joss Whedon wrote Toy Story?
[01:13:05] Yes, I did, I think.
[01:13:07] I just found that out in my whole entire life.
[01:13:09] It's way more since now.
[01:13:10] Well, I think he co-wrote the first one as well.
[01:13:12] That's what you meant.
[01:13:13] He wrote the first one.
[01:13:14] Oh, I thought you said Toy Story 3.
[01:13:15] Never mind.
[01:13:15] No.
[01:13:16] Sorry.
[01:13:16] No.
[01:13:16] Oh, God.
[01:13:17] So The Witcher on Netflix with Henry Cavill.
[01:13:19] Goodbye because I hate Henry Cavill.
[01:13:20] That photo.
[01:13:21] You see that photo?
[01:13:21] He's fake Orlando Bloom.
[01:13:23] I'm out.
[01:13:24] Brutal.
[01:13:24] I know.
[01:13:25] I hate him.
[01:13:25] Brutal.
[01:13:26] Okay.
[01:13:27] The Empire Rider is doing a Falcon Winter Soldier miniseries, which I don't know how that's going
[01:13:31] to work.
[01:13:32] I know, it's going to be weird.
[01:13:34] Suspiria is doing super well.
[01:13:35] It's getting a wide release.
[01:13:36] Did you see that?
[01:13:36] You probably saw that.
[01:13:37] Yeah, I'm dying to see it.
[01:13:39] We already talked about this, but I'm super here for the favorite because I keep seeing,
[01:13:42] I feel like Emma Stone is the next one I'm going to be converted to liking because I don't
[01:13:46] really like Emma Stone, but she's coming up.
[01:13:48] That movie's going to be so good.
[01:13:50] She always looked like Kaylee to me.
[01:13:52] Really?
[01:13:52] Mm-hmm.
[01:13:52] Huh.
[01:13:53] Especially in that first movie.
[01:13:55] E.D.A.?
[01:13:56] No, The Help.
[01:13:57] Oh, The Help.
[01:13:58] Okay.
[01:13:59] She looks so much like Kaylee.
[01:13:59] Oh, she was also in Superbad before E.D.A., but anyway.
[01:14:01] Well, I know, but.
[01:14:02] No, that was to myself, not to you.
[01:14:03] It's the first one I saw.
[01:14:04] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:14:05] I'm trying to think.
[01:14:06] Everyone thinks she looks like Sansa and she really hates that, but she also kind of does
[01:14:11] look like Sansa if you give it a real, yeah.
[01:14:14] Okay.
[01:14:14] Barry Jenkins is doing an Underground Railroad series for Netflix.
[01:14:19] Nope.
[01:14:19] Amazon.
[01:14:20] He's directing the whole thing.
[01:14:20] Do you know that?
[01:14:21] Did you see Moonlight?
[01:14:22] Mm.
[01:14:23] You didn't see Moonlight?
[01:14:24] I know, I know, I know.
[01:14:24] I'm judging you.
[01:14:25] That came out rude.
[01:14:26] No, I'm sorry.
[01:14:26] I mean, I wanted to see it.
[01:14:28] It just wasn't a good time.
[01:14:29] Yeah, fair enough.
[01:14:30] Fair enough.
[01:14:30] You know what's so sad?
[01:14:31] I saw that other movie, the horrible one that, you know, the one they almost gave the Oscar
[01:14:36] to.
[01:14:36] Oh, La La Land?
[01:14:37] Yeah.
[01:14:37] With Emma Stone?
[01:14:38] Yeah, I hated that movie.
[01:14:38] God awful movie.
[01:14:39] Kaylee.
[01:14:40] No, Kaylee.
[01:14:40] Yeah.
[01:14:41] Wait.
[01:14:41] She liked it.
[01:14:42] She liked it for the most part.
[01:14:44] I saw it with her.
[01:14:45] Oh, did she?
[01:14:46] I thought she hated it.
[01:14:48] I think she liked it.
[01:14:49] Maybe she hated it.
[01:14:50] Yeah.
[01:14:51] Anyway.
[01:14:52] Yeah, yeah.
[01:14:54] Okay.
[01:14:55] Anyway.
[01:14:56] Have you seen Penny Dreadful?
[01:14:57] I feel like you would not like it.
[01:14:58] I don't like scary movies.
[01:14:59] You would think you liked it, but you wouldn't like it.
[01:15:00] It's a TV show.
[01:15:01] It's a scary TV show?
[01:15:02] It's like gothic.
[01:15:03] It's not like scary.
[01:15:04] I have really bad nightmares.
[01:15:06] Okay, me too.
[01:15:06] And I have ever since I was little.
[01:15:07] It's those vivid imaginations.
[01:15:09] I can't watch scary stuff.
[01:15:10] No, it really is.
[01:15:10] And people like roll their eyes when I say it's because of my...
[01:15:13] But it really...
[01:15:14] I feel you 100%.
[01:15:15] It's also why I'm a vegetarian.
[01:15:17] Yes.
[01:15:18] Mm-hmm.
[01:15:19] That's...
[01:15:19] Yeah.
[01:15:19] Yeah, close enough.
[01:15:20] Because of my vivid imagination.
[01:15:22] Yeah.
[01:15:23] There's a new...
[01:15:24] Well, they're bringing back Penny Dreadful.
[01:15:25] It went away.
[01:15:26] Okay.
[01:15:26] Usually I would say this to myself because Henry always leaves during news.
[01:15:29] So I'm glad you're here.
[01:15:30] Okay.
[01:15:31] Isn't it romantic?
[01:15:32] It looks really weird.
[01:15:33] It's a new Rebel Wilson like musical comedy thing.
[01:15:36] I don't know.
[01:15:37] Naomi Watts is going to be the star of the Game of Thrones prequel TV series.
[01:15:41] Very odd to me.
[01:15:42] Why are they doing more?
[01:15:43] That's weird.
[01:15:44] Oh, wait for the next sequel coming out is The Labyrinth.
[01:15:47] Okay.
[01:15:47] Explain that one.
[01:15:48] Have you seen The Labyrinth?
[01:15:49] You must have seen it.
[01:15:50] That's like your deal, no?
[01:15:51] No Labyrinth?
[01:15:52] No.
[01:15:52] I have to make a list.
[01:15:53] What, David Bowie?
[01:15:55] No.
[01:15:55] You know what it is?
[01:15:56] No?
[01:15:57] Okay.
[01:15:57] Sorry.
[01:15:58] Okay.
[01:15:58] Sorry.
[01:15:59] Yeah.
[01:16:00] They're making a Labyrinth sequel.
[01:16:01] Isn't that bizarre?
[01:16:04] Henry?
[01:16:05] What?
[01:16:05] They're making a Labyrinth sequel.
[01:16:07] Oh, cool.
[01:16:08] No, it's weird.
[01:16:09] First of all, he's dead.
[01:16:10] Like, you can't do it without...
[01:16:11] No, you know.
[01:16:11] You can't do it without him.
[01:16:12] I don't understand.
[01:16:14] Yeah.
[01:16:14] Anyway.
[01:16:15] I don't have too much of an attachment.
[01:16:16] Alexander Skarsgård.
[01:16:18] Your hair looks like his in that movie a little bit.
[01:16:20] Some days.
[01:16:21] Yeah.
[01:16:22] Alexander Skarsgård is in Godzilla vs. King Kong.
[01:16:25] Nobody asked for that.
[01:16:26] Okay.
[01:16:27] Adam Scott is going to be in 30,000...
[01:16:29] What is it?
[01:16:30] The Twilight Zone?
[01:16:42] Oh, my God.
[01:16:43] I didn't know.
[01:16:43] It's going to be the best thing ever.
[01:16:45] I mean, it would be exciting regardless of who is doing it.
[01:16:48] But...
[01:16:48] I mean, it would also be terrifying because you don't know what...
[01:16:50] But the fact that he's doing it, that's amazing.
[01:16:53] We should, like, watch the episode.
[01:16:54] We should have, like, a night...
[01:16:55] A weekly watch.
[01:16:56] I can't wait to tell Omar.
[01:16:57] He's going to be sick.
[01:16:58] Yeah.
[01:16:58] So good.
[01:16:59] Okay.
[01:16:59] So, Roma, Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and Bird Box, which I'm not about Bird Box,
[01:17:04] but anyway, they're all getting theater releases.
[01:17:08] That makes sense.
[01:17:08] I mean...
[01:17:09] Yeah.
[01:17:09] They're all Netflix movies, but again...
[01:17:11] Just give me Roma.
[01:17:12] You know?
[01:17:12] Jeez.
[01:17:13] I want to see it so bad.
[01:17:15] I want to see it so much.
[01:17:16] Give me Alfonso, you know?
[01:17:16] I know.
[01:17:17] Always, right?
[01:17:18] Oh, my God.
[01:17:19] Okay.
[01:17:19] Just give me that.
[01:17:20] Lena Dunham is writing a movie about refugees for Spielberg and Rabbi J.J. Abrams.
[01:17:26] I'm up for Spielberg, so...
[01:17:27] I know.
[01:17:28] Yeah.
[01:17:28] We'll see.
[01:17:29] Brad Pitt and Rachel...
[01:17:30] This is the one that gets me.
[01:17:32] Brad Pitt and Rachel Weisz are going to be in a Kingsman sequel.
[01:17:37] Prequel.
[01:17:37] Oh, yeah.
[01:17:38] Weird, right?
[01:17:38] That is weird.
[01:17:39] I'm about it, so...
[01:17:40] Let's see.
[01:17:41] Brutal.
[01:17:42] No more Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.
[01:17:44] What's that?
[01:17:45] Ha-ha!
[01:17:45] We talked about that.
[01:17:46] I got you.
[01:17:48] We talked about that.
[01:17:49] How do they expect to make money?
[01:17:50] No one...
[01:17:51] I mean...
[01:17:52] I don't...
[01:17:55] What?
[01:17:55] I would always go...
[01:17:56] We're still seeing Johnny Depp movies.
[01:17:57] Oh, yeah.
[01:17:57] I always go see it.
[01:17:58] I know you do.
[01:17:59] Go watch The Lone Ranger.
[01:18:00] I know.
[01:18:02] Okay.
[01:18:02] Go watch The Lone Ranger.
[01:18:03] Yeah, shut up.
[01:18:04] All right.
[01:18:05] Yeah, for ARMY.
[01:18:06] For Helena.
[01:18:07] Okay, anyway.
[01:18:08] Ewan McGregor is going to be the villain in Birds of Prey.
[01:18:10] Like, I couldn't be more excited.
[01:18:12] Wait, what?
[01:18:12] Say that again?
[01:18:13] Ewan McGregor is going to be the villain in Birds of Prey.
[01:18:15] Oh, okay.
[01:18:16] I was already super hype.
[01:18:17] I'm more hype now.
[01:18:18] Sure.
[01:18:18] Because you know I love Ewan.
[01:18:19] Okay.
[01:18:21] Chloe Grace Moretz...
[01:18:22] You know I hate her.
[01:18:23] It's worse.
[01:18:23] Chloe Grace Moretz and Jack O'Connell are going to be Bonnie and Clyde.
[01:18:26] Ooh.
[01:18:27] Stab me in the eye.
[01:18:28] I don't really see that.
[01:18:29] I'm not seeing that.
[01:18:30] No.
[01:18:30] I can see him, maybe.
[01:18:32] This one has no relevance to you, but a lot of people really care.
[01:18:35] To all the boys I've loved before is getting a sequel.
[01:18:40] It has a date, but I didn't bother to write it down.
[01:18:41] Is that that Netflix movie about the high schooler?
[01:18:43] With Noah Centinino.
[01:18:44] That guy everybody's obsessed with?
[01:18:46] Yeah.
[01:18:47] The new Timmy.
[01:18:48] Not to me.
[01:18:49] Not to me, Timmy.
[01:18:50] Oh, you know, Chloe, speaking of that, I asked Brayden the other day.
[01:18:54] Oh, Brayden.
[01:18:54] They were taking out the beautiful boy poster.
[01:18:57] I was just like, oh my God.
[01:18:58] Did you?
[01:18:58] Henry!
[01:18:59] No.
[01:19:00] No, it's a sad story.
[01:19:01] I'm sorry.
[01:19:03] Blame Brayden.
[01:19:03] No, look, but like, I was there.
[01:19:05] I was, you know, they're taking out the poster.
[01:19:06] I was like, oh my God, this is perfect, perfect timing.
[01:19:08] I was like, hey, Brayden, can I have that?
[01:19:09] My heart is hot.
[01:19:10] I'm dead.
[01:19:11] I was like, Brayden, can I have that?
[01:19:12] And he said, no, sorry, we don't sell or give out posters anymore.
[01:19:16] What are they going to do with it?
[01:19:18] I don't know.
[01:19:19] But I just said, what do you...
[01:19:19] He's probably going to do it.
[01:19:20] I said, but it's for Chloe.
[01:19:21] He's like, ooh, he did Brayden's shrug.
[01:19:24] But he loves me.
[01:19:26] Brutal.
[01:19:26] Well, I really appreciate you doing that, Henry.
[01:19:28] I'm really upset now.
[01:19:30] I'll find you one.
[01:19:31] It's that, oh, that's sweet.
[01:19:32] It's that thing where like, okay, the moment it reminds me of is the first time I didn't
[01:19:38] get like an A plus, right?
[01:19:40] It was in second grade on a spelling test and I got one wrong and I got all hot inside
[01:19:46] in like the worst possible way, in a bad way, in the worst way.
[01:19:51] And like...
[01:19:51] Not a Shia LaBeouf way.
[01:19:52] My eyes are tear...
[01:19:53] Yeah, well, for me in a Shia LaBeouf way.
[01:19:55] Not a Jedi bride.
[01:19:56] I mean, it's not Shia LaBeouf in general.
[01:19:58] Let's just make that clear.
[01:20:00] But anyway, okay, well, I really appreciate you trying.
[01:20:02] I want that poster with every piece of me.
[01:20:04] I'll find one.
[01:20:05] Thank you so much.
[01:20:07] I was really disappointed.
[01:20:07] I was like, what are you doing, man?
[01:20:08] You know?
[01:20:09] That is...
[01:20:09] What are they possibly going to do with it?
[01:20:11] I'm concerned why you didn't ask more questions.
[01:20:14] Gosh, John.
[01:20:14] I did.
[01:20:14] I was just like, why not?
[01:20:15] And she's like...
[01:20:16] Yeah.
[01:20:17] It is Brayden.
[01:20:17] He's Brayden.
[01:20:18] You don't know Brayden.
[01:20:19] He's the manager.
[01:20:20] You know, I can't...
[01:20:20] So he didn't say anything?
[01:20:21] He's just like, no, we...
[01:20:23] Get your girlfriend to steal it for me.
[01:20:24] Jesus.
[01:20:25] I will try.
[01:20:25] Thank you.
[01:20:26] Yeah, I'm going to try and get like...
[01:20:28] I mean, she was there.
[01:20:29] She's like, what are you doing?
[01:20:32] Sorry.
[01:20:33] Brutal.
[01:20:33] Oh my God, I'm having a breakdown.
[01:20:34] It's final.
[01:20:34] Megan can help too.
[01:20:35] That'll be fine.
[01:20:36] Hmm?
[01:20:36] I said Megan can help too.
[01:20:38] Oh yeah.
[01:20:38] Tell Megan...
[01:20:39] There's a lot of team...
[01:20:40] That I know Chloe.
[01:20:41] Who's Megan?
[01:20:41] Yeah.
[01:20:42] Megan works there?
[01:20:42] The party...
[01:20:43] The person who did the party...
[01:20:44] Yeah, but does Megan work there?
[01:20:45] Yeah.
[01:20:45] Really?
[01:20:46] Since when?
[01:20:46] I don't know.
[01:20:47] She works there and...
[01:20:48] At Movie Makers and at Target.
[01:20:51] Oh, I didn't know she worked there.
[01:20:52] So if you're looking for Megan...
[01:20:54] Wow.
[01:20:54] So she's...
[01:20:55] Yeah.
[01:20:55] Man, I'm so out of the loop.
[01:20:56] Matt got a lot of insiders in there.
[01:20:58] I'm so out of the loop.
[01:20:59] Yeah.
[01:20:59] I'll get it one way or the other.
[01:21:01] He's not going to notice after a while.
[01:21:02] I saw Sam Higgins yesterday.
[01:21:03] Oh really?
[01:21:04] Oh yeah, he's back from Berlin.
[01:21:06] Yeah.
[01:21:07] Good for him.
[01:21:10] I don't know who Sam Higgins is.
[01:21:11] No, there's a lot.
[01:21:12] Trust me.
[01:21:12] The dedicated ones, they know all the tea.
[01:21:15] Yeah.
[01:21:16] Oh God.
[01:21:17] Gossip on this show, you know?
[01:21:18] Yeah.
[01:21:19] But yeah, I'll get it.
[01:21:20] Thank you, Henry.
[01:21:21] And if any listener out there has one, send it our way.
[01:21:24] Email us and I'll find...
[01:21:25] Just that black and white one, guys.
[01:21:27] I wanted to...
[01:21:28] The other ones, I appreciate, but you can keep that.
[01:21:31] But that black and white one...
[01:21:32] I'm so picky for someone asking for this.
[01:21:34] Gosh, darn it.
[01:21:34] Wait, which one is the one you want?
[01:21:35] The one where he's like...
[01:21:36] They're like...
[01:21:37] Yes.
[01:21:37] Not the one where it's...
[01:21:39] Okay.
[01:21:39] No, yeah.
[01:21:40] Oh, so...
[01:21:41] Wait.
[01:21:41] I mean, I'll take either, to be honest, but...
[01:21:43] Sure.
[01:21:44] But the one, you know, you gotta have that one.
[01:21:46] Mm-hmm.
[01:21:48] Anyways, any other news, Chloe?
[01:21:51] Yeah, my heart is broken.
[01:21:52] Yeah, I know.
[01:21:53] Just kidding, it's not.
[01:21:54] It was...
[01:21:54] I was broken when I heard the news.
[01:21:58] And that, in a weird way, warms my heart.
[01:22:02] So you've brought me...
[01:22:03] You've revived me.
[01:22:03] I was so optimistic.
[01:22:04] I was like, perfect.
[01:22:05] Yeah.
[01:22:05] They crushed it.
[01:22:06] It's so sweet, though.
[01:22:07] That's what matters more to me, you know?
[01:22:09] Yeah.
[01:22:10] Yeah.
[01:22:11] Okay.
[01:22:11] Let's get to the listener effing question.
[01:22:14] All right.
[01:22:14] Oh, God.
[01:22:15] Yeah, so the Film Buds podcast at gmail.com is the address that you can reach us.
[01:22:20] Also on Facebook and Twitter.
[01:22:21] Yeah.
[01:22:22] So feel free to send us, you know, new listener...
[01:22:24] What do we call them?
[01:22:26] El Classico.
[01:22:27] Repeat listeners.
[01:22:28] I don't know what we call them.
[01:22:29] We call that.
[01:22:29] Katie from New York.
[01:22:30] Katie, if you're out there.
[01:22:32] Yeah.
[01:22:33] There was a guy named Ryan.
[01:22:34] Really?
[01:22:34] Okay.
[01:22:34] Yeah.
[01:22:34] There's probably Ryan.
[01:22:35] There's a guy named Ryan.
[01:22:36] There's always a guy.
[01:22:36] That's true, but there was a guy named Ryan.
[01:22:39] Treat Freak or whatever.
[01:22:40] Ooh, Treat Freak, Potato Master.
[01:22:43] That's the one.
[01:22:43] Can Tuna.
[01:22:44] Yeah.
[01:22:45] Can Tuna.
[01:22:46] All those out there.
[01:22:47] Oh, the guy.
[01:22:48] Oh, Film Nutter.
[01:22:50] Film Nutter?
[01:22:50] My favorite.
[01:22:51] Film Nutter's one.
[01:22:51] Yeah, Nutter's like crazy person in England.
[01:22:54] I mean, I know that.
[01:22:56] We got some great usernames.
[01:22:58] Okay.
[01:22:58] Anyway.
[01:22:59] Go ahead.
[01:22:59] Anyhand.
[01:23:01] Film Nutter.
[01:23:02] Yeah.
[01:23:02] Feel free to send us stuff.
[01:23:03] So this one is from Ginny H in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
[01:23:08] Yes.
[01:23:08] Clean for giving the location.
[01:23:11] I love when they give the location and they never do.
[01:23:13] She says,
[01:23:13] Hi all.
[01:23:13] Do you think historical movies, quote unquote,
[01:23:15] are educational and do you think that they should be shown to students
[01:23:18] to reinforce certain subjects or historical events?
[01:23:23] Thanks for reading my email.
[01:23:24] Always have a riot listening.
[01:23:26] Thank you.
[01:23:27] Is it Jenny or Ginny?
[01:23:28] Ginny.
[01:23:28] Do you have a southern accent?
[01:23:29] I can't tell.
[01:23:30] Jenny.
[01:23:30] Say pen.
[01:23:31] Pen.
[01:23:32] Yeah.
[01:23:33] See, he says pen pen.
[01:23:36] So I can't tell.
[01:23:36] Jenny J-E-N-N-Y.
[01:23:38] Yeah, it's the southern accent.
[01:23:40] So how do you really say it?
[01:23:41] Jenny.
[01:23:42] Jenny?
[01:23:42] Yeah.
[01:23:42] How do I say it?
[01:23:43] Jenny.
[01:23:44] Like Weasley.
[01:23:44] Like, or like Gin.
[01:23:46] Wait, how do you say it?
[01:23:47] Jenny.
[01:23:48] I say Jenny.
[01:23:49] No, just stop.
[01:23:51] All right.
[01:23:52] She'll hear it.
[01:23:53] She's from the north, so.
[01:23:55] Oh yeah, up in Pennsylvania.
[01:23:56] Yeah.
[01:23:57] Stay warm.
[01:23:58] It's going to get colder.
[01:24:00] It's so warm today.
[01:24:02] Feels, yeah.
[01:24:04] Brand clear.
[01:24:06] Oh yeah, we're in North Carolina, so.
[01:24:09] Yeah.
[01:24:10] So.
[01:24:10] That's a great question.
[01:24:12] It is.
[01:24:12] Yeah.
[01:24:12] Because you know I hate, I have like this huge pet peeve about.
[01:24:16] Historical inaccuracies.
[01:24:17] Historical inaccuracies in movies.
[01:24:19] Oh, okay.
[01:24:19] I'm like, just change the story if you're going to do that.
[01:24:22] Is there a movie that immediately comes to mind that you watched in school?
[01:24:25] In school?
[01:24:25] Like, did you think of one when you heard the question?
[01:24:28] I will say the one I, the one that does come to mind first for whatever reason is United
[01:24:32] 93.
[01:24:33] Oh.
[01:24:34] Oh, I love, I think that's probably one of the more.
[01:24:36] You can't know.
[01:24:37] Just make it a.
[01:24:38] It's the closest that you're going to get to that.
[01:24:40] Yeah, but I don't need that.
[01:24:41] I don't need that.
[01:24:42] Just make a fake one.
[01:24:45] You know?
[01:24:45] Just make an alternate universe terrorist attack.
[01:24:47] But then they're going to be like, oh, that's kind of exploitative of the United 93.
[01:24:51] No, I think it's less exploitative than making up these people's characters.
[01:24:56] But the movie is.
[01:24:56] I know they use the text.
[01:24:57] No, no, no.
[01:24:58] They use the voicemails.
[01:24:59] No, but the movie is so objectively done that it's not like.
[01:25:01] Look.
[01:25:02] It's not World Trade Center.
[01:25:03] They could have known what those people, I just can't deal with it.
[01:25:06] Watch Oliver Stone's World Trade Center.
[01:25:09] Oh, don't get me going on Oliver Effing Stone.
[01:25:10] That'll get you going.
[01:25:11] Look.
[01:25:12] It all gets me going.
[01:25:13] I'm telling you.
[01:25:13] I just can't.
[01:25:14] Just make an alternate universe.
[01:25:16] United 94.
[01:25:18] Okay?
[01:25:19] That's what I'm saying.
[01:25:20] Don't get me started on Oliver Stone.
[01:25:22] I just can't.
[01:25:23] I just can't do any of it.
[01:25:24] The one that I'm kind of here for is The Conspirator, but mostly because James McAvoy's in it.
[01:25:29] Snoozefest over here.
[01:25:31] My brain just went to Schindler's List.
[01:25:34] Well, all right.
[01:25:35] That's the only one I can remember watching in class, though.
[01:25:38] We didn't watch that in class.
[01:25:39] I think we did.
[01:25:40] We watched Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
[01:25:41] Oh, it's getting a re-release in December.
[01:25:42] I know.
[01:25:43] I know.
[01:25:43] Gotta check that out.
[01:25:44] Are you really?
[01:25:45] Yeah.
[01:25:45] I love Schindler's List.
[01:25:46] I don't know if I can do it.
[01:25:47] How do you?
[01:25:48] Okay.
[01:25:49] What?
[01:25:49] I mean, I know it's like a great movie.
[01:25:51] Right.
[01:25:52] Okay.
[01:25:53] I guess this is just reinforcing the whole thing.
[01:25:54] I love happy endings, whatever.
[01:25:56] No, but I mean like.
[01:25:57] I feel you though.
[01:25:57] Schindler's List, I'm not like, oh, let's pop this on Lazy Sunday.
[01:26:01] Yeah, I love it.
[01:26:02] It's a great movie.
[01:26:03] Yeah.
[01:26:03] But no, it's like, it's a film I just incredibly crafted.
[01:26:08] And I enjoy watching because of that.
[01:26:10] But no, I'm not like, man, I really had fun with that.
[01:26:12] Right.
[01:26:13] You know, Spielberg?
[01:26:13] Love Spielberg.
[01:26:14] Yeah.
[01:26:15] Who don't?
[01:26:15] Yeah.
[01:26:16] Well, you don't really.
[01:26:17] What?
[01:26:17] I love him as a person.
[01:26:18] Okay.
[01:26:19] Because he's Jewish.
[01:26:20] Be honest.
[01:26:21] No.
[01:26:22] Okay.
[01:26:23] Good.
[01:26:23] Doesn't hurt, but no, that's not why.
[01:26:24] Yeah.
[01:26:26] Yeah.
[01:26:26] So, well, I mean, I think that it can be useful, but of course, just to reinforce something
[01:26:33] not to.
[01:26:34] Yeah.
[01:26:34] Well, and if the teacher presents it with a caveat, like, then why not?
[01:26:38] Like, just remember the people who made this movie are American and they went to American
[01:26:42] schools just like you.
[01:26:43] So their history is biased.
[01:26:45] As I've mentioned on the show, Mr. Buhacek, my favorite teacher of all time, he didn't
[01:26:49] need movies.
[01:26:50] He could bring it alive with his words and his movements.
[01:26:54] I love.
[01:26:55] Very theatrically.
[01:26:57] Yeah.
[01:26:57] He was great.
[01:26:58] First day of class, he stood on the table.
[01:27:00] Yes.
[01:27:01] The first time I ever used high on life to describe somebody.
[01:27:04] Huh.
[01:27:05] Probably the last.
[01:27:06] That's great for a teacher.
[01:27:06] Mm-hmm.
[01:27:07] I wanted to.
[01:27:07] He was great.
[01:27:08] So he's like Tom Cruise on the.
[01:27:10] On the couch?
[01:27:11] Yeah.
[01:27:11] No.
[01:27:12] He's chill.
[01:27:13] Yeah.
[01:27:13] I love Tom Cruise.
[01:27:14] He did not have a mental breakdown.
[01:27:16] Damn.
[01:27:17] I had a teacher that showed us movies every day.
[01:27:19] Really?
[01:27:20] Yeah.
[01:27:20] What was the class?
[01:27:22] AP U.S. History.
[01:27:24] Huh.
[01:27:24] Was it Mr. Link?
[01:27:25] No.
[01:27:27] Mr. Link is a great teacher.
[01:27:29] Yeah, yeah.
[01:27:29] Exactly.
[01:27:30] You're Mr. Link.
[01:27:30] I never had him though.
[01:27:31] Oh, you didn't?
[01:27:31] No.
[01:27:32] This teacher was part-time football coach.
[01:27:35] Ah.
[01:27:36] Part-time history teacher.
[01:27:37] And he showed us like action movies every day.
[01:27:39] That's funny.
[01:27:41] That's awesome.
[01:27:41] It was my first period class.
[01:27:43] That's nice.
[01:27:44] I hated it.
[01:27:45] Yeah.
[01:27:46] What were these documentaries or dramas?
[01:27:50] Dramas.
[01:27:50] Sounds like.
[01:27:51] Yeah.
[01:27:52] Yeah.
[01:27:52] It was like Will Smith was in one of them and like.
[01:27:55] Independent.
[01:27:55] Independent.
[01:27:56] Independent.
[01:27:57] I don't even know if it was that relevant.
[01:28:00] Yeah.
[01:28:00] I mean, it might have been that movie, but all I remember is there was a girl in her underwear
[01:28:04] with a gun and like they were very irrelevant to history.
[01:28:10] Right.
[01:28:11] Wow.
[01:28:11] It was just like undercover dudes.
[01:28:12] It was like the dudes action movie with the girl in her underwear and like the guy on
[01:28:16] the lam.
[01:28:16] The best kind of movie.
[01:28:17] Yeah.
[01:28:17] Unable to love.
[01:28:18] I was like, this is a great way to start out every morning.
[01:28:21] Oh, yeah.
[01:28:21] Great cinema.
[01:28:22] Huh.
[01:28:23] Sorry.
[01:28:24] Anyways.
[01:28:24] No, no.
[01:28:25] I'm never about it.
[01:28:26] That's the point.
[01:28:27] You're never about movie?
[01:28:29] Never?
[01:28:29] Historical movie?
[01:28:30] What about documentaries?
[01:28:31] Oh, I did like Black Klansman, didn't I?
[01:28:34] Yeah.
[01:28:34] Can't be a, can't be like that.
[01:28:36] Hypocrite over here.
[01:28:36] Yeah.
[01:28:37] But like, so, I mean, but yeah, what about a movie like that?
[01:28:42] Okay.
[01:28:42] So what I'm going to say to get myself out of this hole is what I actually feel.
[01:28:47] Black Klansman used historical events to shed light on many themes.
[01:28:55] Right.
[01:28:55] As opposed to having themes in a movie about an event.
[01:29:00] Right.
[01:29:01] Does that, you know what I mean?
[01:29:02] But I think, is what I'll say.
[01:29:04] I feel like if a teacher presents it well.
[01:29:06] Yeah.
[01:29:07] And gives it the right context.
[01:29:08] Yeah.
[01:29:08] Any movie could do that.
[01:29:09] Right.
[01:29:09] Even the most brainwashy, propaganda-y movie.
[01:29:12] If you say, we're going to think about and talk about brainwashing propaganda movies.
[01:29:16] Yeah, like we, actually, that comes, we, one of my film classes, we watched Loose Change.
[01:29:22] Okay.
[01:29:22] The 9-11 Conspiracy Talk.
[01:29:25] And then compared it with United 93.
[01:29:28] Okay.
[01:29:28] That's interesting.
[01:29:29] Yeah.
[01:29:29] Mind blown.
[01:29:30] Right.
[01:29:30] So, I guess context is that, did she say to teach, though?
[01:29:34] Well, I guess I did teach it.
[01:29:35] Yeah.
[01:29:35] Fair enough.
[01:29:36] Okay.
[01:29:36] Okay.
[01:29:36] Okay.
[01:29:37] All right.
[01:29:37] All right.
[01:29:37] You know.
[01:29:38] Anything can be educational, right?
[01:29:40] If you're the right teacher.
[01:29:41] You don't want to be the first period U.S. history teacher.
[01:29:42] Please don't.
[01:29:44] That made me so depressed.
[01:29:46] Yeah.
[01:29:46] It was really easy to skip class, though.
[01:29:48] That's nice.
[01:29:49] Yeah.
[01:29:50] Oh, yeah.
[01:29:50] And you had that all year long, right?
[01:29:52] Because you went to a year long.
[01:29:53] And I had a free period before that.
[01:29:54] Or not year long, but you went to a-
[01:29:55] Where'd you go to school?
[01:29:56] East Trouble Hill.
[01:29:57] Not year long.
[01:29:58] I mean, like, I had blocks scheduling.
[01:30:01] Yeah.
[01:30:02] Anyway.
[01:30:03] It was the whole senior year.
[01:30:04] Yeah, yeah.
[01:30:04] Huh.
[01:30:04] I didn't get to school until, like, 11.
[01:30:06] That's why I did senior year, too.
[01:30:09] I missed a lot of school.
[01:30:10] Yeah?
[01:30:11] Mm-hmm.
[01:30:12] I didn't really.
[01:30:13] A lot of school.
[01:30:15] Actually, I, like, had the record or something.
[01:30:17] I missed, like, senior year, I think I missed, like, 46 days of school.
[01:30:21] Nice.
[01:30:21] Because my mom would, like, let me go to concerts and, like, not go to school.
[01:30:25] That's awesome.
[01:30:26] She's like, well, if you're great to, you know, I mean, you're not losing anything,
[01:30:30] then do your life.
[01:30:31] I hope I'm that kind of parent.
[01:30:32] I'm definitely going to be that kind of parent.
[01:30:34] I think as long as learning how to cheat the system is really important.
[01:30:37] Okay, so, but that is one thing I regret how much I cheated in some classes
[01:30:41] because I didn't learn.
[01:30:42] I didn't say cheat in class.
[01:30:44] Well, I cheated in class.
[01:30:45] Chloe, revel over here.
[01:30:47] It was the, okay, but, so my high school self valid, like, made it acceptable
[01:30:52] by being, like, number one, I don't respect this teacher
[01:30:55] because they're not teaching me anything, which was very fair, very true.
[01:30:58] The teacher I disrespected the most in senior year of high school died.
[01:31:02] Continue.
[01:31:03] Dang.
[01:31:04] RIP.
[01:31:04] Yeah.
[01:31:05] Wow.
[01:31:06] During the school year?
[01:31:07] No.
[01:31:07] Like, a year later.
[01:31:08] All right, well, coincidence.
[01:31:10] I was like, shame.
[01:31:11] Really good it didn't happen while I was in his class.
[01:31:13] I would have felt so bad.
[01:31:14] So, yeah, so don't respect the teacher because they don't respect me
[01:31:17] or what they're doing, it seems, right?
[01:31:19] So you were like the guy in the breakfast club.
[01:31:20] Number two.
[01:31:21] Low key.
[01:31:21] Essentially.
[01:31:22] Number two, this is not going to be relevant to my life, I guarantee you.
[01:31:29] Yeah, fact.
[01:31:30] Okay.
[01:31:30] Like, AP calculus.
[01:31:32] That's fair.
[01:31:32] You never know.
[01:31:33] No, I can guess.
[01:31:35] Okay, number three.
[01:31:36] Now, this is the one that is dicey.
[01:31:39] Number three, I said, if I can pass the test and do, you know, in a less effortful way,
[01:31:49] isn't that more of an accomplishment?
[01:31:51] I mean, in some worlds, yes.
[01:31:53] I suppose so.
[01:31:53] Which, you know, that's a relatively fair argument.
[01:31:56] Yeah.
[01:31:57] But I regret it.
[01:31:58] Would I do it differently?
[01:32:00] Probably not.
[01:32:01] Well, I'm mad that I'm not fluent in French.
[01:32:03] Okay.
[01:32:04] But if I thought that I could have.
[01:32:06] I've tried.
[01:32:07] I, like, can't do languages.
[01:32:08] Yeah, me neither, really.
[01:32:09] So.
[01:32:09] Even if you hadn't cheated.
[01:32:11] Yeah, yeah.
[01:32:11] Look, I didn't cheat in any of my language classes in high school.
[01:32:14] No.
[01:32:14] I still can't speak another language.
[01:32:16] Thank you, Anna Claire.
[01:32:17] That's why I cheated in college.
[01:32:18] Yeah.
[01:32:19] All right.
[01:32:19] Yeah.
[01:32:19] See, it happens.
[01:32:20] But again, I did not cheat in classes that I respected.
[01:32:23] I also always told my mom that I was cheating.
[01:32:26] I was like, is this Jill with you?
[01:32:28] And she's like, yeah, I get it.
[01:32:29] Owned up to it, you know.
[01:32:30] Yeah.
[01:32:31] I would really have a think about it, you know?
[01:32:33] Yeah.
[01:32:33] Is this cheating moral?
[01:32:35] Yeah.
[01:32:35] When you check in with your mom, I approve.
[01:32:38] Yeah.
[01:32:38] She's, yeah.
[01:32:39] I think it's fair enough.
[01:32:40] Also, like I said, I'm not exaggerating.
[01:32:42] They were the worst teachers you could ever think to have.
[01:32:45] Oh, I believe you.
[01:32:45] There was no way.
[01:32:46] Yeah.
[01:32:46] I believe you.
[01:32:47] Especially my French teacher.
[01:32:50] She, she was Haitian.
[01:32:51] Haitian French is different than France French.
[01:32:54] Yes.
[01:32:54] But she was teaching Haitian French for a France French course.
[01:32:58] Oh.
[01:32:58] Which obviously I wasn't going to, also she grew up in Brooklyn and had a lisp and she
[01:33:04] was very particular about the accent, but her accent.
[01:33:07] She was a great Spanish teacher.
[01:33:08] Her accent is what, not the, so it was, yeah, anyway.
[01:33:12] Also, she was racist.
[01:33:14] So there were lots of, lots of things.
[01:33:15] Wait, what?
[01:33:16] Yes.
[01:33:17] There were lots of dimensions to this.
[01:33:19] Yeah.
[01:33:19] But that's cool for you, isn't it?
[01:33:21] So.
[01:33:21] Yeah.
[01:33:23] Don't cheat.
[01:33:24] What a whirlwind.
[01:33:24] But also live your life.
[01:33:25] Yeah.
[01:33:26] Yeah, live your life, Ginny.
[01:33:27] If it ain't her and anybody.
[01:33:29] Jenny.
[01:33:29] Jenny.
[01:33:30] Jenny.
[01:33:31] See, this is the kind of thing.
[01:33:32] It's Jenny, right?
[01:33:33] Miss Callender.
[01:33:34] Jenny.
[01:33:34] Jenny.
[01:33:35] Jenny.
[01:33:35] I can't remember her name now.
[01:33:36] She would have given me an F for saying Jenny instead of Ginny because she's a Ginny.
[01:33:40] You see what I mean?
[01:33:41] Fact.
[01:33:42] No.
[01:33:42] So you're saying it Ginny.
[01:33:43] I'm saying it Ginny.
[01:33:45] Yeah.
[01:33:45] And I did all my coursework.
[01:33:47] Like I did everything on my own, but then I would write table.
[01:33:49] He's still so confused.
[01:33:51] Just let it go.
[01:33:52] It makes sense.
[01:33:54] Your mouth said that, but your eyes were saying a very different thing.
[01:33:57] No, that happens a lot here.
[01:33:59] Oh, okay.
[01:33:59] You just don't know how to connect the two.
[01:34:00] I don't know how to express my face.
[01:34:02] Yeah, I guess you still look scared and confused.
[01:34:03] Yeah.
[01:34:04] It's cute.
[01:34:04] That's just my face.
[01:34:05] Yeah.
[01:34:06] He has an innocent.
[01:34:06] Some people are resting like, you know, jerk face.
[01:34:09] I mean, it's cute and like.
[01:34:09] I have, apparently I have resting crying face.
[01:34:12] Oh.
[01:34:12] So people always think I'm like very sad.
[01:34:14] Like strangers come up to me like, are you okay?
[01:34:16] And I'm like, yes.
[01:34:17] I just have total resting bitch face.
[01:34:19] Yeah, I could see that.
[01:34:20] Yeah.
[01:34:21] No, not in a mean way.
[01:34:21] No, no, but it's true.
[01:34:22] The amount of girls, I don't know why it's always girls, but that have come up to me later
[01:34:26] in our friendship and been like, I thought you hated me.
[01:34:29] Explains why all my childhood friends were guys.
[01:34:33] Interesting.
[01:34:34] Yeah.
[01:34:36] Huh.
[01:34:37] Yeah.
[01:34:38] I'm being incredibly gendered.
[01:34:40] You know, we're all human.
[01:34:41] The world we live in, you know.
[01:34:43] Gosh.
[01:34:43] All right, let's wrap it up.
[01:34:45] Pick of the week.
[01:34:46] And except we're so happy you're here.
[01:34:48] Yeah, thanks for the email, Jenny.
[01:34:54] So we need to do our picks of the week.
[01:34:55] Yeah.
[01:34:56] Real quick, I'll say I saw the sisters brothers.
[01:34:59] Or actually, I'll pull an Anna Clay here.
[01:35:01] My soccer team guy saw it and hated it.
[01:35:04] Yeah, well, I'll pull an Anna Clay here and say I only saw it in the first 30 minutes.
[01:35:08] Because I was, I got distracted by something and my phone fell out of my pocket.
[01:35:12] Long story.
[01:35:13] Okay.
[01:35:13] Phone fell out of my pocket, smashed on the floor in Chelsea.
[01:35:17] No.
[01:35:18] Destroyed it completely.
[01:35:19] Henry.
[01:35:20] So I was just like, and it was about 6.30 at night.
[01:35:22] I had work the next day.
[01:35:23] And so of course I need, I'm on call.
[01:35:24] So I'm like, gotta have the phone.
[01:35:26] So drove to Staples, left.
[01:35:28] Drove to Staples.
[01:35:31] Sat for about an hour at the Panera Bread nearby.
[01:35:34] Had a lovely conversation with the people at Staples.
[01:35:36] Very nice people.
[01:35:37] Yeah.
[01:35:37] Low tech people.
[01:35:39] Got it fixed.
[01:35:40] Not a great movie.
[01:35:41] Kind of dull.
[01:35:42] Yeah.
[01:35:43] Not crazy about John C. Reilly.
[01:35:45] Really stuck out.
[01:35:46] The dialogue was weird.
[01:35:48] Very stilted.
[01:35:49] Daniel said he really could not get behind Joaquin Phoenix.
[01:35:52] And he likes Joaquin Phoenix.
[01:35:53] Yeah, I love him too.
[01:35:54] And even he felt kind of out of place.
[01:35:56] Yeah.
[01:35:57] So I don't know.
[01:35:58] And that is one of my favorite books.
[01:36:01] Like I keep having to buy new used copies of it.
[01:36:03] Because I keep giving it to people.
[01:36:04] Because I like love it so much.
[01:36:05] You know what I mean?
[01:36:05] And they don't give it back?
[01:36:08] It's like a pay it forward thing.
[01:36:09] I don't know if it's making it back.
[01:36:10] Okay, okay, okay.
[01:36:10] Because I've given people books to borrow and they don't give it back.
[01:36:13] Yeah, that's true.
[01:36:14] I literally, in Kaylee's bedroom, my books are on her shelf.
[01:36:17] And I'm like, okay, I've already read them.
[01:36:21] But yeah.
[01:36:21] It was an adventure for sure.
[01:36:23] But read that book, everybody.
[01:36:25] Read that book.
[01:36:25] Check it out.
[01:36:26] I'm curious.
[01:36:28] Then I'll say I've been playing Red Dead Redemption 2.
[01:36:31] The new Western epic.
[01:36:34] Henry loves Westerns, by the way.
[01:36:35] I do love Westerns.
[01:36:36] And it's actually pretty, even though people aren't gamers,
[01:36:40] it's actually pretty incredible in terms of the storytelling
[01:36:43] and the detail of Western.
[01:36:44] That's cool.
[01:36:45] You know.
[01:36:46] So that's really good.
[01:36:47] Apparently made like $750 million over the weekend in sales.
[01:36:53] Made quite a bit of money.
[01:36:54] There should be a Westworld video game.
[01:36:56] That would be good.
[01:36:56] Why has nobody gotten on that?
[01:36:57] There probably will be.
[01:36:58] There will.
[01:36:59] Maybe there is.
[01:37:00] Did you know there was a Westworld movie?
[01:37:01] Yes.
[01:37:02] Yeah.
[01:37:03] Of course you did.
[01:37:04] Of course you did.
[01:37:05] And then last day I rewatched Inside Llewyn Davis.
[01:37:08] Of course you did.
[01:37:10] I love it.
[01:37:11] Kill me.
[01:37:11] Like the way Oscar Isaac emotes.
[01:37:13] Anna Claire, you could be in a Coen Brothers movie.
[01:37:15] You've got that aesthetic.
[01:37:16] Yeah, you could be a good fit.
[01:37:18] Yeah.
[01:37:18] That's a compliment.
[01:37:19] I don't love them, but like that is a compliment.
[01:37:21] Their aesthetic is on point.
[01:37:22] But the music is great.
[01:37:24] And just how Oscar Isaac emotes through music
[01:37:26] and through his voice in that is great.
[01:37:28] Right.
[01:37:29] It's just very detailed, very...
[01:37:31] You're such a hater on the Coens.
[01:37:33] It doesn't make any sense.
[01:37:35] Anyways.
[01:37:35] I don't like them.
[01:37:36] What do you mean they're like them?
[01:37:37] I don't know.
[01:37:37] You just...
[01:37:38] We won't get into it.
[01:37:40] We'll have a Coen special.
[01:37:42] We have to do a special.
[01:37:42] You want to be on the Harry Potter special, Anna Claire?
[01:37:44] Oh, yes.
[01:37:45] Yes.
[01:37:45] You have to have...
[01:37:46] Oh, my God.
[01:37:49] Great.
[01:37:50] Sorry.
[01:37:51] That'd be fun.
[01:37:52] Stay tuned for that.
[01:37:54] So...
[01:37:54] We're doing it in November, right?
[01:37:56] I hope so.
[01:37:56] Yeah.
[01:37:57] Are you in?
[01:37:57] We're seeing the movie together.
[01:37:58] Yeah, we're seeing it together.
[01:37:59] I know.
[01:37:59] Do you want to come?
[01:38:00] Yeah, Henry can.
[01:38:01] If I can.
[01:38:01] You'll come.
[01:38:01] Wait, we bought three tickets.
[01:38:02] Honey, always...
[01:38:03] It'll be fine.
[01:38:03] Go buy another ticket.
[01:38:05] I find my way in there.
[01:38:06] Really?
[01:38:07] Yeah.
[01:38:07] One way or the other.
[01:38:08] Okay.
[01:38:08] Sure.
[01:38:09] I mean, if possible.
[01:38:10] It'll be fine.
[01:38:11] Oh, my God.
[01:38:11] I wanted people to talk to the first one about...
[01:38:14] Yeah.
[01:38:15] Wait, that didn't make any sense.
[01:38:16] Fantastic Beasts, right?
[01:38:17] You know what I mean, right?
[01:38:18] Yeah.
[01:38:18] I know what you mean.
[01:38:19] I talked to people about the first one.
[01:38:21] Yeah.
[01:38:21] Because there were so many theories that people haven't talked about yet.
[01:38:24] Yeah, yeah.
[01:38:25] So this is going to be...
[01:38:26] Oh, my God.
[01:38:26] It's going to be amazing.
[01:38:27] Guys, you just made like my childhood dream.
[01:38:29] Yay!
[01:38:29] When I first read the books, I had no friends that liked them.
[01:38:33] Really?
[01:38:34] Yeah, actually, I was the same because my sister hated them.
[01:38:38] Yeah.
[01:38:39] Yeah.
[01:38:39] Interesting.
[01:38:40] My siblings got old enough to read it, and then finally I had friends.
[01:38:42] I did air quotes for friends.
[01:38:44] Oh, yeah.
[01:38:45] Yeah, and I'm also reading Palace of Treason, which is the second book in the Red Sparrow trilogy.
[01:38:50] Oh, my God.
[01:38:50] It's really good.
[01:38:51] Get over it.
[01:38:52] No, it's written by a former counterintelligence agent, and so it's very detailed and...
[01:38:58] Uh-huh.
[01:38:59] I believe you.
[01:39:00] No, I'm so sorry.
[01:39:01] I'm just colored by Jennifer Lawrence.
[01:39:03] I watched this voice coach guy.
[01:39:06] You hate so many people.
[01:39:07] No, I love a lot of people.
[01:39:08] Everyone says that about me, but that's not true.
[01:39:09] When you talk about the people you hate a lot.
[01:39:11] No way.
[01:39:12] I'd say if we did a tally.
[01:39:14] I was worried.
[01:39:14] No, no, no, no.
[01:39:15] Okay, wait.
[01:39:16] She's like low-key a terrible person, you know?
[01:39:18] It's how many people...
[01:39:19] Is it how many people I talk about love and hate, or how many times I talk about people
[01:39:23] I love and hate?
[01:39:24] Because if it's how many times I talk about them, love definitely wins.
[01:39:27] I don't know.
[01:39:28] I guess so.
[01:39:29] Just the amount of times you've been like, oh, I hate them.
[01:39:31] I'm passionate.
[01:39:32] Yeah, listeners, go back and do a tally.
[01:39:33] Let us know.
[01:39:34] If you got time.
[01:39:35] A graph.
[01:39:35] A flowchart.
[01:39:36] Yeah.
[01:39:37] Anyway.
[01:39:37] That's it for me.
[01:39:38] But the voice coach, he said her accent was the worst he'd ever heard.
[01:39:43] I mean, it's...
[01:39:44] I don't know.
[01:39:45] It's not perfect, but I think if I didn't know it was Jennifer Lawrence, I would probably
[01:39:49] see it as passable.
[01:39:50] Like, it's not spot on, but it's not distracting.
[01:39:56] But anyways, that's it.
[01:39:58] Anna Claire, you watched anything good recently?
[01:40:01] Well, I was telling Chloe on the way over here, I'm re-watching Downton.
[01:40:04] Nice.
[01:40:04] Which I don't know how people think about that.
[01:40:06] I know a lot of old women watch it.
[01:40:08] Yeah, Henry likes that.
[01:40:09] Do you like it?
[01:40:09] Henry is...
[01:40:10] Well, I didn't seek it out immediately, but then my family started watching and I kind
[01:40:15] of got hooked in.
[01:40:15] That's what happens a lot, yeah.
[01:40:17] Yeah.
[01:40:17] I think it's a great show.
[01:40:18] Did you watch it all the way through?
[01:40:19] I think so.
[01:40:20] Oh, my God.
[01:40:20] I was telling Chloe how I thought it should have ended.
[01:40:23] Did you think Mary and Tom were going to get together?
[01:40:26] Oh, I like Tom.
[01:40:28] No?
[01:40:28] Did you see the limousine driver?
[01:40:29] Oh, yeah.
[01:40:30] I guess I kind of did.
[01:40:30] I swear to God, there's a scene in the last episode where it seems like they're going to get
[01:40:34] together and they just go a different way.
[01:40:36] I think, yeah, I think of that.
[01:40:38] Wouldn't that have been beautiful?
[01:40:39] It would have been.
[01:40:40] But, you know, can't have that happy ending.
[01:40:43] It's like my parents are stepping up.
[01:40:44] Well, they're doing a movie, right?
[01:40:46] Yeah, they are.
[01:40:47] What?
[01:40:47] Yeah.
[01:40:48] Okay, but to be fair, they've been, quote, doing a movie for about five years.
[01:40:51] It makes sense it's taken that long.
[01:40:52] No, but apparently it's in production or it's about to go in production.
[01:40:55] They have a date.
[01:40:56] Okay.
[01:40:57] My mom lately has kept saying, I missed Downton so much.
[01:41:01] It's coming back.
[01:41:02] She'll be really excited.
[01:41:03] That's awesome.
[01:41:03] I bet it's a wedding movie.
[01:41:05] God, but then Mary and Tom weren't going to be together.
[01:41:07] Maybe they will be by the end.
[01:41:09] You never know.
[01:41:09] Damn it.
[01:41:09] I just, because as I'm re-watching, it would add so much to me if they ended up together,
[01:41:14] like watching those early episodes where there were such different people and then seeing
[01:41:18] them both lose their spouses.
[01:41:20] Ha ha.
[01:41:20] All these spoilers.
[01:41:21] Spoilers.
[01:41:21] Yeah, absolutely.
[01:41:22] If you haven't seen Down, you're not going to watch Down.
[01:41:24] Spoiler central, you know.
[01:41:24] That's, I mean, I guess.
[01:41:25] I don't know.
[01:41:26] I think it's good enough that people will come to it later.
[01:41:29] Yeah.
[01:41:30] I mean, I could see how you could watch a couple episodes.
[01:41:32] Be like, what is this schlock?
[01:41:33] And then you just kind of get hooked in.
[01:41:35] Yeah.
[01:41:35] Ha ha.
[01:41:38] Then you're like, wow, this is great.
[01:41:39] Yeah.
[01:41:41] So.
[01:41:42] But, yeah, totally.
[01:41:43] I've been bouncing around through Buffy lately.
[01:41:48] I watched Hush.
[01:41:50] Oh, I haven't seen that.
[01:41:51] The episode, not the movie.
[01:41:53] It's a good movie, though.
[01:41:54] I know.
[01:41:54] I watched it at the beach.
[01:41:55] It's a good episode, too.
[01:41:57] Yeah, yeah.
[01:41:58] Emmy nominated.
[01:42:02] But I'm reading Buffy comics right now.
[01:42:05] You're a bit of, you're Buffy head?
[01:42:07] Yeah.
[01:42:08] Cool.
[01:42:08] Hardcore.
[01:42:09] That's awesome.
[01:42:11] Thanks.
[01:42:11] We're both team spikes.
[01:42:12] I'm also working on a tarot card series.
[01:42:15] They're so cool.
[01:42:17] On my Instagram.
[01:42:18] They're so cool.
[01:42:20] Cool.
[01:42:21] But thank you.
[01:42:22] You're welcome.
[01:42:23] So that's part of the reason.
[01:42:24] That was to me, dummy.
[01:42:25] Yeah.
[01:42:25] I made like sexy eye contact at her and said thank you.
[01:42:28] Oh, that's too bad.
[01:42:29] Yeah.
[01:42:32] Anyways.
[01:42:35] I listen to a lot of podcasts right now.
[01:42:37] So that also fills my time.
[01:42:38] Anyone stand out?
[01:42:39] Uh, well, there's a, the buffering podcast.
[01:42:43] It was like buffering the vampire slayer or buffering.
[01:42:47] I don't know.
[01:42:47] What's that one about?
[01:42:50] Uh, wow.
[01:42:51] No, but it's actually really good.
[01:42:52] It's like these two lesbians, uh, talk about Buffy episode by episode and they write a song
[01:42:57] for each episode.
[01:42:58] Wow.
[01:42:59] Which is really cool.
[01:43:01] Um, and the one for hush was really good and they do a lot of character interviews like
[01:43:05] with actors and stuff.
[01:43:06] So what's that Harry Potter when you listen to?
[01:43:09] Anna Claire told me about it.
[01:43:11] Pottercast.
[01:43:11] No, Harry Potter and the sacred text.
[01:43:13] That's the one.
[01:43:14] But I did get sick of it.
[01:43:15] Pottercast is so much better.
[01:43:16] I told Anna Claire.
[01:43:17] You should listen to the Pottercast.
[01:43:18] Why is it?
[01:43:18] This is TMI.
[01:43:19] We're really, Henry has gone through a lot of growth, I think through this podcast with
[01:43:24] me being way too extra around you, but I can only at this point in my life listen to Harry
[01:43:29] Potter and the sacred text when I'm on my period.
[01:43:31] Okay.
[01:43:32] It's the only time I'm at that emotional level.
[01:43:34] That's fair.
[01:43:35] Yeah.
[01:43:35] It pisses me off a lot.
[01:43:37] Yeah.
[01:43:38] Um, they're just too PC.
[01:43:40] It's like.
[01:43:41] All right.
[01:43:42] Like, oh, that's.
[01:43:43] He's kidding.
[01:43:43] He's kidding.
[01:43:44] But I really almost sent in an email.
[01:43:46] Yeah.
[01:43:47] Saying.
[01:43:47] With my outrage about the whole Snape thing.
[01:43:49] But then I just.
[01:43:50] Yeah.
[01:43:50] That was, that was brutal.
[01:43:52] So stupid.
[01:43:52] But it's like dismissive of actual issues.
[01:43:55] Yeah.
[01:43:55] Like, okay.
[01:43:56] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:43:57] I feel you.
[01:43:58] Do you want us to fill you in?
[01:44:00] Or do you care?
[01:44:01] I'll be fast.
[01:44:02] Um.
[01:44:02] Yeah.
[01:44:03] They say when.
[01:44:04] Yeah, go ahead.
[01:44:04] Sorry.
[01:44:05] Uh, when.
[01:44:06] You remember when Neville turns the Bogart into Snape and then he's dressed in his grandmother's
[01:44:10] clothes?
[01:44:10] Yes.
[01:44:11] They said that was transphobic.
[01:44:12] Yeah.
[01:44:13] And I was like, it's not hilarious because it's a woman's clothes.
[01:44:17] Besides of which, Snape walks around in a dress.
[01:44:19] Yeah.
[01:44:20] All the time.
[01:44:21] All the time.
[01:44:22] It's because there's a giant dead bird on the head.
[01:44:24] And because it's so extravagant.
[01:44:25] It's grandma clothes.
[01:44:26] And Snape is always just in black.
[01:44:27] Yeah.
[01:44:28] Not in like frills and stuff.
[01:44:29] Right.
[01:44:30] No.
[01:44:31] And because it's Neville.
[01:44:31] It's all.
[01:44:32] Yeah.
[01:44:33] Neville.
[01:44:33] Always getting crapped on, you know?
[01:44:35] Yeah.
[01:44:35] Transphobic.
[01:44:36] Poor guy.
[01:44:36] Poor guy.
[01:44:37] Yeah, except in the movies they let Neville do all this cool stuff he didn't do in the
[01:44:39] books.
[01:44:40] And he glows up like fog.
[01:44:41] I don't see.
[01:44:42] Anyway.
[01:44:43] What?
[01:44:44] Yeah.
[01:44:44] Okay.
[01:44:44] I'm not team that.
[01:44:45] I know.
[01:44:46] What a mess.
[01:44:46] Considering the guys you normally like, I'm surprised.
[01:44:49] Wow.
[01:44:49] Have you seen him in like real life?
[01:44:51] Excuse me.
[01:44:52] With his like beanies and stuff?
[01:44:52] I don't.
[01:44:53] I've never liked a guy who would.
[01:44:54] No offense.
[01:44:55] I like you as a person, Henry.
[01:44:57] Thank you.
[01:44:57] That would be bad if I liked you more than that.
[01:45:00] It'd be awkward at this point.
[01:45:01] Yeah, that would be great.
[01:45:01] But no, I've never liked guys who wear beanies.
[01:45:04] Sorry.
[01:45:05] We'll talk about my vibe.
[01:45:07] We'll talk about it later.
[01:45:07] Have you seen his photo shoot in his like underwear and stuff?
[01:45:09] I'm not into it.
[01:45:10] Does Timothy Chalamet wear a beanie?
[01:45:11] No.
[01:45:12] I've never seen.
[01:45:12] He wears a yarmulke sun.
[01:45:14] Okay.
[01:45:15] Okay.
[01:45:15] Horse eat him.
[01:45:18] Anyway.
[01:45:19] Should we get to my list now?
[01:45:20] Yeah, probably.
[01:45:21] But what if you, what if this guy like.
[01:45:24] If Timothy Chalamet wore, that guy told you about that I'm going to marry.
[01:45:28] What if he walked in the next day wherever he is.
[01:45:30] If he wore a beanie, I'd say that's fine.
[01:45:32] I'd say that's kind of how it seems out of character.
[01:45:35] But.
[01:45:35] You'd accept it.
[01:45:36] I'm not.
[01:45:37] You're not mad about it.
[01:45:39] I don't base it on.
[01:45:39] You're not mad about it.
[01:45:40] Right.
[01:45:41] Right.
[01:45:42] Yeah, I mean.
[01:45:44] You're low-key mad about it.
[01:45:45] No.
[01:45:46] Anyways.
[01:45:47] Chloe, your list?
[01:45:48] Your list?
[01:45:49] Okay.
[01:45:50] So the one I forgot.
[01:45:51] Remember last week I was like, God.
[01:45:52] I always forget one that I watch.
[01:45:53] I was like, God, what is that?
[01:45:55] Because I watched.
[01:45:55] It was The Kindergarten Teacher, which I told you I was sad about.
[01:45:58] I was sad about in part because of Gilbert.
[01:46:00] Oh, I still haven't watched Flower yet.
[01:46:01] Sorry.
[01:46:02] For God's sake, Henry.
[01:46:03] Sorry.
[01:46:04] I asked so little of you.
[01:46:05] Sorry.
[01:46:06] I'm like.
[01:46:07] Careful.
[01:46:08] I dropped my champ stick.
[01:46:09] Oh, good.
[01:46:09] Those hardcore SNL lovers will get that joke that I made.
[01:46:13] But I also did drop my champ stick.
[01:46:15] It didn't sound like a joke.
[01:46:16] Yeah.
[01:46:17] Pick it up.
[01:46:17] All right.
[01:46:18] No, it's under the couch.
[01:46:19] It's fine.
[01:46:20] Anyway.
[01:46:22] I've been watching a lot of Pete Davidson videos, too.
[01:46:24] Sorry.
[01:46:24] Have you?
[01:46:25] Yeah.
[01:46:25] I don't know how to feel about that whole thing.
[01:46:27] He just looks a lot like my boyfriend.
[01:46:29] Yeah, he does look kind of like your boyfriend.
[01:46:30] I definitely see that.
[01:46:32] Anyway.
[01:46:32] I got no.
[01:46:33] No.
[01:46:33] No.
[01:46:34] You shouldn't.
[01:46:35] I know.
[01:46:35] So anyway.
[01:46:36] So I watched The Kindergarten Teacher.
[01:46:37] It was really compelling.
[01:46:39] Like, it was really good.
[01:46:40] Uh-huh.
[01:46:41] I was surprised, but I was super into it.
[01:46:44] Cool.
[01:46:45] It's on Netflix, right?
[01:46:46] Yeah.
[01:46:47] And I also can't.
[01:46:49] Obviously, it takes it to extremes.
[01:46:50] But like, I can relate.
[01:46:51] I think a lot of people, especially because of my profession and all that stuff, I can kind
[01:46:54] of relate to it.
[01:46:55] But anyway.
[01:46:57] And then I watched Hysteria, also with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy.
[01:47:01] Haven't seen that.
[01:47:02] It's like a very minor, but it was good.
[01:47:04] Like, kept me engaged.
[01:47:06] It was interesting.
[01:47:07] Yeah.
[01:47:08] Shoot.
[01:47:09] What else did I want?
[01:47:09] Hold on.
[01:47:10] Give me one second.
[01:47:11] Take your time.
[01:47:12] Take your time.
[01:47:14] Okay.
[01:47:15] Oh, okay.
[01:47:16] Oh, duh.
[01:47:16] I've been super.
[01:47:17] I was super not knowing how to feel about it, as I have told you on the show.
[01:47:21] Because I'm the biggest.
[01:47:22] I have the whole box set.
[01:47:23] My whole family is obsessed with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, right?
[01:47:26] Right.
[01:47:26] And I even told Aunt Clara, I used to go to Borders with my father every week and read
[01:47:30] those comics.
[01:47:30] Man, I miss Borders.
[01:47:31] Man, Borders was so good, man.
[01:47:33] My favorite restaurant.
[01:47:34] I love Borders.
[01:47:35] My favorite restaurant was right near Borders, La Hacienda.
[01:47:39] Wait, which one are you talking about?
[01:47:40] Are you talking about that one?
[01:47:42] Yeah.
[01:47:42] Oh, that was the best one.
[01:47:44] It was the best restaurant.
[01:47:45] I loved walking around there.
[01:47:46] The Borders was right next to it.
[01:47:47] It was like every day, every Saturday.
[01:47:49] It was like the best time of my life.
[01:47:50] Good stuff.
[01:47:51] They both closed with.
[01:47:51] The one on Weaver Dairy.
[01:47:52] Is that what you're talking about?
[01:47:53] No?
[01:47:54] No.
[01:47:55] No, no, no, no.
[01:47:56] But they both closed within two months of each other and I was devastated.
[01:47:59] Oh my God.
[01:48:00] I've forgotten all about Borders.
[01:48:01] R.I.P.
[01:48:02] Gosh darn it.
[01:48:02] There used to be one really close to me.
[01:48:04] Again?
[01:48:05] Yeah.
[01:48:06] She's about to leave and we're going to hang out and she can't tell me twice, so it's
[01:48:09] okay.
[01:48:09] Anyway.
[01:48:10] Wait, what?
[01:48:10] We're almost done.
[01:48:11] So anyway.
[01:48:14] So what were they saying?
[01:48:16] Borders.
[01:48:16] Oh, Sabrina.
[01:48:17] So super big fan of Sabrina.
[01:48:18] Did know how I feel about the chilling adventures of Sabrina.
[01:48:21] I was like, uh, uh, Kieran and Chipko.
[01:48:22] Like I like her as a person, but I don't know if she can do it.
[01:48:24] Cause she was in this movie with Timmy and she was not good and I was like, I don't know
[01:48:26] what to do.
[01:48:27] I haven't seen that.
[01:48:29] Yeah.
[01:48:29] You shouldn't watch it.
[01:48:30] It's not good.
[01:48:30] Okay.
[01:48:30] Anyway.
[01:48:31] Um, but I'm super into it.
[01:48:35] Like super into it.
[01:48:36] It's dope.
[01:48:36] You'd like it, Anna Claire.
[01:48:37] I think you'd like it.
[01:48:38] The visuals are dope.
[01:48:39] It's just try it anyway.
[01:48:41] I'm super here for it.
[01:48:42] Okay.
[01:48:43] I'll give it a poll.
[01:48:44] Watch it on my stationary bicycle.
[01:48:46] Yeah.
[01:48:46] As you do.
[01:48:47] Sure.
[01:48:47] It's really good.
[01:49:04] Don't.
[01:49:05] What do you mean don't think so?
[01:49:06] He doesn't think he's watched it.
[01:49:07] Yeah.
[01:49:07] I said, I'll give it a poke though.
[01:49:08] Oh, I said you shouldn't.
[01:49:10] Then he said, don't think so.
[01:49:11] Don't think so, Chloe.
[01:49:12] Nope.
[01:49:12] Sorry.
[01:49:12] I don't even remember what movie we were talking about.
[01:49:14] So anyway, that's where I'm at.
[01:49:16] It's all blur.
[01:49:16] We're at the end of the rope.
[01:49:17] And yet you're still mad.
[01:49:19] That's how I live my life.
[01:49:20] Yeah.
[01:49:20] Welcome to Chloe.
[01:49:22] Okay.
[01:49:23] Anyway.
[01:49:24] All right.
[01:49:25] That's my list.
[01:49:26] Well, yeah.
[01:49:27] Gosh.
[01:49:28] That's fun.
[01:49:28] Good talk, everybody.
[01:49:30] We got a new redhead.
[01:49:31] I still miss Brayden, but.
[01:49:33] What do you mean?
[01:49:34] Who's the older redhead?
[01:49:35] Brayden.
[01:49:36] Oh.
[01:49:36] What?
[01:49:37] Brayden has red hair.
[01:49:39] Did he?
[01:49:39] What the heck is wrong with you?
[01:49:41] I didn't know that.
[01:49:41] Well, he's bald, but.
[01:49:42] He's gray hair now.
[01:49:43] He's got a red beard, though.
[01:49:45] I guess he could just be Scott.
[01:49:46] I'm pretty sure.
[01:49:47] But he also has red eyebrows.
[01:49:49] Like, he's red.
[01:49:50] I gotta give up.
[01:49:50] I gotta look.
[01:49:51] A lot of men have red facial hair, but not red.
[01:49:53] Yeah, but if you saw him.
[01:49:54] I gotta.
[01:49:55] I gotta.
[01:49:55] I think you would.
[01:49:56] Does he like pale with freckles?
[01:49:58] Yeah.
[01:49:58] I'll have to investigate.
[01:50:00] He's at least related to redhead.
[01:50:01] I'm pretty certain he has red hair.
[01:50:02] Yeah.
[01:50:03] I'll have to just stare at him for a while.
[01:50:04] See what happens.
[01:50:05] Okay.
[01:50:06] Yeah.
[01:50:09] All right.
[01:50:10] I guess that about brings us to the end of the show.
[01:50:12] Next week, I don't know.
[01:50:14] Oh, boy.
[01:50:16] Probably not Bohemian Rhapsodies.
[01:50:19] No.
[01:50:21] I don't know.
[01:50:22] We'll figure something out.
[01:50:22] Maybe Suspiria.
[01:50:23] That always happens.
[01:50:24] Yeah.
[01:50:24] Maybe.
[01:50:25] If it comes.
[01:50:26] Maybe around here.
[01:50:26] I don't know.
[01:50:27] Yeah.
[01:50:28] But yeah, so stay tuned for that on social media and all that jazz.
[01:50:31] Well, Anna Claire, thank you so much for joining us.
[01:50:33] Yeah.
[01:50:33] Welcome back anytime, you know?
[01:50:35] Wow.
[01:50:35] Are you sure?
[01:50:36] Yeah.
[01:50:37] Sure.
[01:50:37] Yeah.
[01:50:40] Yeah.
[01:50:40] Oh, God.
[01:50:42] No, I would love to.
[01:50:43] I had fun.
[01:50:44] But I feel like you did a good job, buddy.
[01:50:46] I wasn't on my best behavior.
[01:50:47] You did great.
[01:50:48] That's okay.
[01:50:49] Perfect place for it, you know.
[01:50:51] All right.
[01:50:52] You should hear Brayden.
[01:50:53] Yeah.
[01:50:53] Oh, that's fair.
[01:50:54] Yeah.
[01:50:54] Man, we got to get Brayden back.
[01:50:56] Oh, man.
[01:50:56] Poor guy.
[01:50:57] Well, Chloe.
[01:50:59] Not anymore.
[01:50:59] And I'm salty about my poster.
[01:51:01] He was my favorite person.
[01:51:01] Oh, yeah.
[01:51:02] I'm really mad.
[01:51:02] We'll have him on and we'll have that out on the show.
[01:51:04] Can we start a petition?
[01:51:05] Ooh.
[01:51:05] To do the poster?
[01:51:06] Give Chloe her poster.
[01:51:07] Mm-hmm.
[01:51:08] I don't know how big of a following that would get.
[01:51:10] Change.org.
[01:51:11] Stay tuned for that.
[01:51:13] But Chloe, thanks as always.
[01:51:15] Thank you, Henry.
[01:51:15] I'm always happy to see you.
[01:51:17] And we hope you have a wonderful day.
[01:51:18] Yeah, bye.
[01:51:21] Bye.
