[00:00:22] Hello everybody, welcome back to the Film Buds Podcast. This is episode number 64 and my name is Henry.
[00:00:29] I keep thinking we're on like 60, last week I thought it was 68, this week I thought it was 69. I don't know what's going on. I'm Chloe.
[00:00:40] Yeah, so thank you for joining us. We're gonna be talking about The House with a Clock in Its Walls, right?
[00:00:46] Mm-hmm. Then we're gonna be doing a retro review of another clock-oriented movie. Okay, look, it's not because it's clocked,
[00:00:54] it's because it's directors who veered away from their usual thing to do a kids movie. I picked it because it was clocks.
[00:01:02] Oh my gosh, you're like the penicillin of people. Yeah. Thought process-wise. Yeah, but that's gonna be Martin Scorsese's Hugo from 2011.
[00:01:12] And you know, we have all the usual stuff. So thanks for joining us once again.
[00:01:16] And should say we are I guess maybe a little late getting the show out, but I guess that-
[00:01:22] Who knows anymore? Yeah.
[00:01:25] It's never been for, we never postponed it for- Fun.
[00:01:29] Yeah. Taunting. But I guess that does kind of bring us to my little story.
[00:01:34] News of the week. Yeah, so yesterday was honestly one of the more stressful days
[00:01:41] I've had in a long time. The night before, I was having to cover a closing shift, you know.
[00:01:51] So, and around 5.30 or so, I got a text from my mother saying, hey, so although I'm with
[00:01:58] our neighbors and I'm already on the way, I've fallen and broken my leg.
[00:02:03] Oh my gosh. Or I think I've broken my leg.
[00:02:06] Whilst you're at work? Yes.
[00:02:07] This is- Oh, that's really stressful.
[00:02:08] This was at about 5, 5.30. And so I still had about two hours of work left. I was like, oh,
[00:02:14] okay, you know. And so-
[00:02:16] You left now?
[00:02:17] I mean, I couldn't, I mean, I was, I couldn't just leave. No, but the thing was, she was with two
[00:02:22] of our neighbors. And so it was, it's not like she was just by herself. If she was by herself,
[00:02:27] then I would have, but-
[00:02:28] Right.
[00:02:30] Then, finally got finished up.
[00:02:32] If Kaylee, if Kaylee, like, breaks a nail, I will run over there.
[00:02:37] Yeah. I mean, I really wanted to.
[00:02:39] With my barely working legs.
[00:02:40] Yeah.
[00:02:42] Anyways, so when I got off work, they said, well, you know, although the neighbors have
[00:02:46] gone, there's nothing more that you can really do tonight.
[00:02:49] Yeah.
[00:02:50] So you can go on home and come tomorrow. And so I did. And that brings us to yesterday morning,
[00:02:59] Thursday, right? Yeah. At about 10 o'clock, I saw her for about a half hour and she's in a
[00:03:07] room and all that jazz.
[00:03:09] That's good.
[00:03:09] Yeah. She wasn't just out in the hallway, you know, so, but then after about a half hour,
[00:03:15] her main doctor came in and said, hey, you know, of course with this break, it was like,
[00:03:19] right near her hip-ish kind of high.
[00:03:22] Oh.
[00:03:23] Yeah.
[00:03:23] How'd it happen?
[00:03:24] She was out in the garden and she fell and kind of landed really.
[00:03:29] Just like that.
[00:03:30] Poorly, yeah.
[00:03:31] Man.
[00:03:31] So, and he said, of course, the main, the easiest and more efficient way to fix this would be
[00:03:37] to do surgery. And it just so happens that like in an hour.
[00:03:42] I have an opening.
[00:03:43] Yes. To do surgery. And all of this was, you know, really kind of just stressful and chaotic
[00:03:48] just because it all happened so quickly. She's like, oh, okay. You know. And so took about
[00:03:55] two hours or so for it to actually start rolling. But I ended up waiting in the waiting room for
[00:04:06] about like until six o'clock. It was a long day.
[00:04:10] Oh my word.
[00:04:11] And because the surgery didn't start until about maybe two o'clock in the afternoon.
[00:04:15] But it was a pretty, and yeah, they had to go in and like put like cables in and all this
[00:04:21] stuff. So it was a very long, exhausting day filled with.
[00:04:24] I've had those things.
[00:04:26] Yeah. And it had been a very long time since I'd been in a hospital and like Duke Hospital
[00:04:31] is like a maze. There's just so many moving pieces. And I mean, very like professional
[00:04:35] people. So I mean, it's good. She's, you know, she's in good hands, thankfully, but it was
[00:04:40] really worrying at one moment. So throughout the day, I'd seen all these other surgeons come
[00:04:48] out and talk to the other visitors saying, hey, just so you know, the surgery went well.
[00:04:54] You can come see her at this point, blah, blah, blah. It's like, okay, so that's what's
[00:04:57] going to happen with me. But at about six o'clock or so, the receptionist said, hey, would
[00:05:04] you just follow me? And she put me in this consultation room. I was just, oh my God.
[00:05:09] Because I was like half, I was like half asleep. I was completely exhausted.
[00:05:13] Yeah.
[00:05:13] I was like this. No. And I had to wait in there for like 10 minutes just wondering.
[00:05:18] And then, but luckily the guy came in and said, no, this is just a standard procedure.
[00:05:22] She's fine. And it's just, it was like this weight of stress lifted off. But yeah, it was
[00:05:30] a pretty long day. I'm going to go see her after we do the show, but she's okay. You know,
[00:05:36] she's good. I mean, I mean, somewhat, she's going to have to do some physical therapy and
[00:05:41] all that stuff. But, but definitely a bit of a whirlwind, you know?
[00:05:47] Definitely. Yeah.
[00:05:48] She might go off and I always go off, went off and, uh, cause they took the stuff out,
[00:05:53] but I always went off the metal detectors at the airport.
[00:05:56] Oh yeah. I think that happened with her.
[00:05:58] She has that to look forward to.
[00:05:59] Her hip replacement from years ago. So.
[00:06:01] Oh, she's had.
[00:06:03] And that's one thing that they were worried about is that that could have gotten loose.
[00:06:07] Right.
[00:06:07] But it, apparently it didn't. So.
[00:06:09] Yeah.
[00:06:10] It was a relatively smooth fix, but.
[00:06:14] That's good.
[00:06:15] Yeah. So.
[00:06:16] Boy, oh boy.
[00:06:17] Yeah. Saw a lot of different doctors and nurses, you know, you know, a lot of interactions.
[00:06:21] Made some friends.
[00:06:21] Yeah.
[00:06:22] That's cute.
[00:06:23] So went, got to go to the cafeteria.
[00:06:25] Did you fall in love?
[00:06:27] I didn't.
[00:06:28] Dang it.
[00:06:28] It felt, it felt weird going back to it. I hadn't eaten in a cafeteria for like two years.
[00:06:33] I felt like I was back in middle school or something, like trying to find a place to sit.
[00:06:36] You were in middle school two years ago?
[00:06:38] Yes. Yes.
[00:06:39] Cool.
[00:06:40] It took me a while, but no, uh.
[00:06:44] It was like, you know, trying to find a place to sit. Who am I going to sit with? I mean, I sat alone, but.
[00:06:49] Yeah.
[00:06:50] So.
[00:06:50] Just like middle school.
[00:06:51] Just like, yeah, just like middle school. So.
[00:06:53] Wait, were you the kid who like sat near the bathrooms with his friends?
[00:06:57] No.
[00:06:57] No.
[00:06:57] Did you not have those kids at your school?
[00:07:00] Our.
[00:07:00] In high school. Obviously you can't do that in middle school, but.
[00:07:04] Neither of the cafeterias were near bathrooms.
[00:07:07] What?
[00:07:07] No. They were kind of like down the hallway.
[00:07:10] Well, did kids sit in the hallways?
[00:07:12] Instead of the cafeteria?
[00:07:12] In high school they did. Yeah.
[00:07:14] But.
[00:07:15] No.
[00:07:16] No?
[00:07:16] No.
[00:07:17] I could see that being you. Not as an insult.
[00:07:19] Sometimes I sat in the hallway with people, but.
[00:07:21] Okay.
[00:07:21] Just whatever, you know.
[00:07:23] I was a library kid, so.
[00:07:25] Ah, yeah. That makes sense.
[00:07:26] With my friends, so.
[00:07:28] Yeah.
[00:07:28] Not all the time. Just some of the time.
[00:07:31] Yeah.
[00:07:32] Because we never did our homework.
[00:07:33] Ooh. Rebel here.
[00:07:34] Not really. Actually, well, I don't know. I don't want to get in trouble with anybody.
[00:07:41] Okay.
[00:07:42] But I didn't always do my math homework.
[00:07:44] Hmm.
[00:07:45] I wrote down the math homework and the answers.
[00:07:49] Well, there you go.
[00:07:51] And the way some other people did it.
[00:07:53] Yeah.
[00:07:54] So.
[00:07:55] Nice.
[00:07:55] My philosophy has changed a little bit since high school, but in high school.
[00:08:00] You know when you're in high school, it's totally different because you're like, this
[00:08:02] is so trivial.
[00:08:03] I'm never going to use this, which I still think is true, like about math for me, whatever.
[00:08:08] Right?
[00:08:09] Sure.
[00:08:09] Which was my excuse for not really paying a lot of attention.
[00:08:14] Mm-hmm.
[00:08:15] But I would say, well, if I can do it in any way with the least amount of effort possible,
[00:08:24] doesn't that really mean I'm achieving the most?
[00:08:27] I suppose so.
[00:08:28] It doesn't, but that was what I thought at the time.
[00:08:31] But now I can't speak Spanish, so.
[00:08:33] Very wise.
[00:08:34] Yes.
[00:08:36] I really wish I could.
[00:08:37] Yeah.
[00:08:38] So there you go.
[00:08:39] Yeah.
[00:08:40] But.
[00:08:44] Anyways.
[00:08:44] Your phone's blowing up?
[00:08:45] Yeah.
[00:08:46] Wow.
[00:08:46] So, but yeah, it was, yeah, definitely a long day that's filled with, you know, drinking
[00:08:51] bad coffee and, you know, just endless waiting.
[00:08:54] That's a good end to that sentence, buddy.
[00:08:56] Yeah.
[00:08:56] But also it was my, it was also kind of annoying because my phone was.
[00:09:01] No.
[00:09:02] Oh my God.
[00:09:03] I'm so mad.
[00:09:04] What?
[00:09:05] I put your present by the door.
[00:09:07] I said, Chloe, he needs this today.
[00:09:09] We're going to bring it.
[00:09:10] And guess what?
[00:09:11] I didn't bring.
[00:09:12] Wait, wait.
[00:09:13] Oh.
[00:09:13] We should say you brought me flowers for my mother.
[00:09:15] I'm so mad at myself.
[00:09:18] I can't even.
[00:09:19] Oh my God.
[00:09:21] Oh yeah.
[00:09:21] I, uh, I actually ordered you something.
[00:09:23] It's not here, but.
[00:09:24] Oh, Henry.
[00:09:28] Henry, I'm having a Halloween party.
[00:09:29] You're invited.
[00:09:30] Oh, thank you.
[00:09:31] I didn't send out the invite yet because you don't want to send out too early or you
[00:09:34] look like it's not cute.
[00:09:35] You know what I mean?
[00:09:36] It's like desperate, you know?
[00:09:37] I wouldn't say desperate, but like I am, I think you know this about me.
[00:09:41] I'm like an obsessive planner.
[00:09:43] Like I enjoy the process, but also I can't avoid it.
[00:09:46] You know what I mean?
[00:09:47] Like I've already started decorations, prepping, that kind of thing.
[00:09:50] I have a whole bunch of lists and stuff.
[00:09:52] I already have the invite on my phone.
[00:09:53] I just haven't sent it out, but.
[00:09:56] Just waiting for the right moment.
[00:09:57] Like right now.
[00:09:58] Yeah.
[00:09:59] But it's cute.
[00:10:00] I'll show you.
[00:10:01] Okay.
[00:10:01] Except I might make the thing go.
[00:10:05] I'll text it to you.
[00:10:06] That's cute.
[00:10:07] Yeah, that works.
[00:10:07] Because we're millennials.
[00:10:08] So even though we're sitting across from each other, I'm going to text you.
[00:10:11] Okay.
[00:10:13] Yeah.
[00:10:14] So, oh, I mean, but I was in the waiting room for a while and there was this.
[00:10:18] I sent it to the wrong Henry.
[00:10:20] Whoops.
[00:10:21] Butterfingers.
[00:10:22] Okay, hold on.
[00:10:23] There was this.
[00:10:23] That's embarrassing.
[00:10:24] Father and his daughter who were there waiting and they just heard that their, I guess the
[00:10:29] wife, the wife and her mother.
[00:10:32] Oh my God.
[00:10:32] Was it like a this is us moment?
[00:10:34] No, no.
[00:10:34] This was perfectly happy.
[00:10:36] Like they'd gotten good news, but they're waiting.
[00:10:38] But yeah.
[00:10:38] Oh, but they're waiting to.
[00:10:41] Find out.
[00:10:42] Yes.
[00:10:43] When they could see her.
[00:10:45] And, but they periodically throughout the like four or five hours, they would call like
[00:10:51] six or seven people each and to update them about what was happening.
[00:10:55] And they would just leave the same voicemail.
[00:10:57] So it got to the point where I could literally, I could just leave the message for them if they
[00:11:01] needed.
[00:11:02] That would have been sweet.
[00:11:02] You should have offered.
[00:11:04] But so that was fun.
[00:11:06] Yeah.
[00:11:06] It's a lot.
[00:11:07] It's a lot.
[00:11:08] Yeah.
[00:11:08] I remember how I talked about this.
[00:11:09] It's like, so it was like really effing bizarre.
[00:11:12] And it's like the episode with most death of house.
[00:11:15] But anyway, but like after one of my surgery, my first surgery when I, cause I was like a
[00:11:19] baby, right?
[00:11:20] Not literally, but I think I was 11, but they, they overdosed me on anesthesia.
[00:11:26] So I was conscious, but my body was incapable of moving for like four hours.
[00:11:35] Yeah.
[00:11:36] So I was like stuck in there so I could hear my family, like being really upset and stuff.
[00:11:41] Right.
[00:11:42] And I was like, no, I'm fine.
[00:11:43] I'm fine.
[00:11:43] But I couldn't move anything.
[00:11:44] Like it was so creepy.
[00:11:46] That is weird.
[00:11:48] Oh my God.
[00:11:49] Yeah.
[00:11:49] It was really creepy.
[00:11:51] And I could like hear my mom like crying and stuff.
[00:11:53] And I was like, oh man, this is horrible.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:55] This is pretty bad.
[00:11:56] Yeah.
[00:11:56] My mother was telling me when she got out of the, after she finished, she was telling
[00:12:01] me about the other people who were around the ER with her, like patients.
[00:12:05] And they're like all these like horror stories.
[00:12:07] Like, oh yeah, this carpenter with his face like destroyed.
[00:12:10] And my uncle chainsawed his leg off once.
[00:12:13] And my dad and I had to drive him to the hospital.
[00:12:16] Good Lord.
[00:12:16] I know.
[00:12:18] Dr. Gary was supposed to be on the show today, everybody.
[00:12:21] He was sober.
[00:12:22] Sober.
[00:12:23] He was sober.
[00:12:25] He was excited, but he'll be, he'll be here eventually.
[00:12:27] He doesn't wake up before 1230 PM.
[00:12:30] So he couldn't do it.
[00:12:31] Yeah.
[00:12:32] They called him the vampire at work because he worked with blood.
[00:12:35] He wouldn't wake up.
[00:12:36] Like he was only awake at night.
[00:12:37] Classic Gary.
[00:12:38] Classic Gary bear.
[00:12:39] Yeah.
[00:12:39] I know.
[00:12:40] So yeah.
[00:12:41] He used to not wake up till like 3 PM.
[00:12:44] So he's, you know, getting more normal.
[00:12:46] Yeah.
[00:12:46] He's getting there.
[00:12:48] Yeah.
[00:12:49] So I think that other than that, yeah.
[00:12:52] So just a long day, but it seems like it's the, the.
[00:12:57] Worst is being past you.
[00:12:59] Correct.
[00:12:59] Yes.
[00:13:00] Good.
[00:13:00] You're past the worst.
[00:13:01] I don't know which way to, because if the worst is past you, that means it's to come.
[00:13:05] Right.
[00:13:05] So that's not it.
[00:13:06] Yeah.
[00:13:07] I love semantics.
[00:13:09] It like makes me happy.
[00:13:10] Indeed.
[00:13:10] Indeed.
[00:13:11] Did you see the invite?
[00:13:13] It's cute.
[00:13:14] No, not yet.
[00:13:14] I'll, I'll check it out when I.
[00:13:16] Henry, just look at it really quickly.
[00:13:17] Oh my God.
[00:13:18] We're not very professional.
[00:13:19] Yeah.
[00:13:20] There you go.
[00:13:20] So yeah.
[00:13:21] We're doing it away from the equipment.
[00:13:22] I like it.
[00:13:23] I thought I went to visit a wedding venue for my sister.
[00:13:26] Oh really?
[00:13:27] It was dope.
[00:13:27] Oh, that is nice.
[00:13:29] It's a good invite.
[00:13:29] Thank you.
[00:13:30] Yeah.
[00:13:31] Yeah.
[00:13:31] I'm levitating my cats because it's Harry Potter themed party.
[00:13:35] All the, all the film buds out there are invited.
[00:13:37] Oh, that's nice of you.
[00:13:38] I mean, yeah, I already said it, so can't take it back, but I mean it.
[00:13:46] What was the funny name last week?
[00:13:49] The what?
[00:13:50] The funny name last week.
[00:13:51] A film nutter can definitely come.
[00:13:53] A film nutter.
[00:13:54] But then the one last week with like mashed potatoes or something.
[00:13:57] Oh yeah.
[00:13:57] Mashed potato.
[00:13:58] No, no.
[00:13:59] Potato masher.
[00:14:00] Potato masher.
[00:14:01] Classic name.
[00:14:02] Yeah.
[00:14:03] So yeah, but I'll keep you all updated about her condition.
[00:14:08] She should be able to come home in the next couple of days, hopefully, but not verified
[00:14:13] yet.
[00:14:14] So.
[00:14:15] Do we have to start talking about movies yet or can we talk about the elephante in
[00:14:19] the country?
[00:14:20] In the stateroom?
[00:14:21] Ha ha ha.
[00:14:23] Hilarious.
[00:14:24] Can we talk about it?
[00:14:25] I watched the entire, I listened to the entire hearing yesterday.
[00:14:30] Oh, did you?
[00:14:30] Yeah.
[00:14:30] We watched it periodically.
[00:14:32] He is an insane, he lost his effing mind.
[00:14:37] Yeah.
[00:14:38] Yeah.
[00:14:38] And I'm here for it.
[00:14:39] Mm-hmm.
[00:14:40] Oh my God.
[00:14:42] Yeah.
[00:14:42] P.S.
[00:14:42] We can make this movie oriented.
[00:14:45] Dr. Ford's going to get her own movie and it's going to be amazing.
[00:14:48] Oh, she probably, yeah.
[00:14:49] Oh my God.
[00:14:49] It's probably already in development.
[00:14:51] We're going to get a Mueller movie.
[00:14:52] That's going to be amazing.
[00:14:54] Maybe Edward Norton will play him.
[00:14:56] I don't know.
[00:14:57] I could see that.
[00:14:58] Right?
[00:14:59] Yeah, that would work.
[00:14:59] It kind of just came to me.
[00:15:00] Like, I kind of like that.
[00:15:01] Yeah.
[00:15:02] So, I think that's going to be a movie.
[00:15:04] Who's going to direct it though?
[00:15:06] Which one?
[00:15:07] Mueller?
[00:15:08] Probably effing Ron Howard.
[00:15:10] Yeah.
[00:15:10] He's trying to be Spielberg.
[00:15:11] Clint Eastwood.
[00:15:12] No.
[00:15:13] No, Clint Eastwood wouldn't do it.
[00:15:14] He's too busy talking to his empty chair, if you recall.
[00:15:17] Oh, that's fair.
[00:15:18] Mm-hmm.
[00:15:19] Poor Clint.
[00:15:20] No.
[00:15:22] But yeah.
[00:15:22] Oh my God.
[00:15:23] I'm like ready for all that.
[00:15:25] Like, good for you.
[00:15:27] She's going to get a movie.
[00:15:28] Yeah.
[00:15:28] Don't you think so?
[00:15:29] Sure.
[00:15:30] It might be boring, but it'll happen, I think.
[00:15:33] Yeah.
[00:15:33] Yeah, especially if Ronnie Howard directs it.
[00:15:36] True.
[00:15:37] Actually, you know what?
[00:15:38] Because she doesn't have to sign the...
[00:15:39] She'd have to sign her life rights for the movie, and I don't think she'd do that.
[00:15:42] So, I take it back.
[00:15:42] Did you know she went to UNC?
[00:15:44] Did she?
[00:15:44] She's in Kaylee's parents' graduating class.
[00:15:47] Wow.
[00:15:47] Cray cray, right?
[00:15:48] Yeah.
[00:15:49] Oh my God.
[00:15:50] Yeah.
[00:15:51] Exciting.
[00:15:52] He...
[00:15:54] If you're not interested in politics because you're like, oh, it's too overwhelming, but
[00:15:58] like, also boring and like, I don't care that much, despite all the Mishigas Tuesday-ish
[00:16:04] word, the craziness, whatever, right?
[00:16:07] Just take a moment.
[00:16:08] And just like, you can even watch a late night clip of somebody watching, like reviewing his
[00:16:16] testimony.
[00:16:17] Yeah.
[00:16:17] He is insane.
[00:16:18] Yeah.
[00:16:19] It was quite something to...
[00:16:20] Quite...
[00:16:21] Oh my God.
[00:16:22] He lost it.
[00:16:23] Yeah, he did.
[00:16:24] Wowza.
[00:16:25] Yeah.
[00:16:26] Nut job.
[00:16:27] Yeah.
[00:16:28] Utter nut job.
[00:16:32] So, I guess, yeah.
[00:16:34] I guess that's about it for...
[00:16:36] That.
[00:16:37] Yeah.
[00:16:38] Well, should we talk about...
[00:16:40] Yeah, let's do it.
[00:16:41] Clock walls?
[00:16:42] Here's a clip to take a listen.
[00:16:43] Yeah.
[00:16:43] So, we'll get into a review of the house with the clock and its walls.
[00:16:46] And as Chloe said, we have a clip.
[00:16:49] So, take a listen.
[00:16:50] Jack-o-lantern.
[00:16:51] They scare away evil.
[00:16:52] And iron does, too.
[00:16:53] Well, it repels evil, like bug spray.
[00:16:55] And that is why we have iron horseshoes, and that's why cemetery gates are made of iron.
[00:16:59] Mm-hmm.
[00:16:59] Mm-hmm.
[00:17:00] Mm-hmm.
[00:17:01] And how does one become a full-fledged warlock?
[00:17:04] You have to defeat an evil spirit by using your own magic.
[00:17:08] That is absolutely right.
[00:17:14] What smells of rancid sulfur?
[00:17:20] Hey!
[00:17:21] Yeah, so, before we do the movie...
[00:17:27] Well, so, yeah, I mean, the gift I ordered you, it's one you either could, like, go crazy,
[00:17:33] or you're like, oh, that works, but...
[00:17:36] Is it a...
[00:17:37] Is it a dirt buster?
[00:17:40] What?
[00:17:40] Is it a cleaning product?
[00:17:41] It has nothing to do with cleaning.
[00:17:43] Dang well.
[00:17:44] Yeah.
[00:17:45] Unfortunately.
[00:17:46] Well, that's so nice regardless.
[00:17:48] Yeah.
[00:17:48] I will covet it.
[00:17:49] It's at least related to something you like one way or the other, so you'll be able to
[00:17:55] enjoy it.
[00:17:56] I hope.
[00:17:57] Is it Noah Cyrus' $12,000 bottle of tears?
[00:18:00] I don't know who that is.
[00:18:02] Perfect.
[00:18:02] I didn't really either, but that was, like, a big...
[00:18:05] Everyone was talking about it.
[00:18:06] Gotcha.
[00:18:07] So.
[00:18:08] Anyways, so...
[00:18:09] Noah Cyrus' sister.
[00:18:10] Yeah.
[00:18:10] The House with the Clock in Its Walls is directed by Eli Roth.
[00:18:15] What?
[00:18:16] Stars Jack Black.
[00:18:18] Wait.
[00:18:18] We need to pause again.
[00:18:20] Okay.
[00:18:21] The kid is not Jacob Tremblay.
[00:18:24] Yeah, I know.
[00:18:25] Did you think it was?
[00:18:26] This happened to me two weeks in a row that I've been shook by...
[00:18:31] I was positive it was...
[00:18:32] Does he not look just like Jacob Tremblay?
[00:18:34] He does, yeah.
[00:18:35] Oh my God!
[00:18:37] Yeah, Tremblay's in The Predator, not this.
[00:18:41] I was like, wow, he's really, like, sprouted fast.
[00:18:45] But no, it's because it's a different kid, but they look exactly...
[00:18:47] This whole time, or even said on here, I thought it was Tremblay.
[00:18:51] Sorry.
[00:18:51] So did you.
[00:18:52] Oh.
[00:18:53] Oh my God, but it's not.
[00:18:55] This is Owen.
[00:18:56] Some other kid.
[00:18:57] Oh my...
[00:18:58] Some other goofball.
[00:18:58] Is his name Owen?
[00:18:59] Owen Vacharo.
[00:19:00] Oh my God!
[00:19:02] Yeah, so Owen Vacharo, Cate Blanchett.
[00:19:05] Queen.
[00:19:06] Queen.
[00:19:07] Eli Roth has a cameo.
[00:19:09] Yeah.
[00:19:10] Look out for that.
[00:19:11] It's pretty obvious.
[00:19:12] Yeah, and...
[00:19:12] Oh, Kyle MacLachlan.
[00:19:14] Yeah.
[00:19:14] And the lady, I don't know.
[00:19:16] Do you know her?
[00:19:17] The lady.
[00:19:18] No, his wife.
[00:19:19] Yeah.
[00:19:21] I don't know.
[00:19:22] Okay.
[00:19:22] And the synopsis is a young orphan named Louis Barnevelt aids his magical uncle in locating
[00:19:29] a clock with the power to bring about the end of the world.
[00:19:32] Wow.
[00:19:35] So, yeah.
[00:19:38] This one, yeah.
[00:19:39] I mean, so it is a pretty big departure for Eli Roth, who mostly does like pretty violent
[00:19:44] horror movies.
[00:19:45] Extremely violent.
[00:19:46] Yeah.
[00:19:46] Like, kind of gore fests.
[00:19:48] Yeah.
[00:19:49] So, well, Chloe, what you...
[00:19:51] Because you were at least kind of wanting to see this.
[00:19:53] I was super wanting to see it, Henry, and it did not disappoint, to be honest.
[00:19:59] Hmm.
[00:20:00] Yeah.
[00:20:00] Okay.
[00:20:01] Well, you know, because I have that very...
[00:20:04] Like, movies like this were a big part of my growing up, and so I still...
[00:20:10] Like, I love the fantasy, the imagination.
[00:20:13] Right.
[00:20:14] The kind of happy, simple story.
[00:20:17] Like, I love a happy ending.
[00:20:19] We've talked about that.
[00:20:21] Sure.
[00:20:21] Love a happy ending.
[00:20:23] Don't mind a relatively simple plot if it's executed in a fun way.
[00:20:28] Love sweet characters.
[00:20:30] You know what I mean?
[00:20:31] Mm-hmm.
[00:20:32] I...
[00:20:32] Like, I don't mind a black and white movie.
[00:20:34] Do you know what?
[00:20:35] Character-wise.
[00:20:37] Oh, yeah.
[00:20:37] Sure.
[00:20:37] Like, good people and bad people.
[00:20:39] I don't need...
[00:20:40] I don't need all the cognitive dissonance.
[00:20:42] I get that enough in real life.
[00:20:43] You know?
[00:20:44] Mm-hmm.
[00:20:44] But I think this movie did exactly what it meant to do.
[00:20:48] Like, it was a beautiful little kid's movie that your inner child can enjoy regardless
[00:20:54] of age.
[00:20:55] Papa Strauss loved it.
[00:20:56] He was laughing the whole time.
[00:20:58] Mm-hmm.
[00:20:58] He loved it.
[00:20:59] Wow.
[00:21:00] He was laughing quite a bit.
[00:21:01] See, I wasn't.
[00:21:02] You didn't think he was funny?
[00:21:03] Not really.
[00:21:04] Oh, Papa Strauss and I thought it was hilarious.
[00:21:05] We were...
[00:21:06] Also...
[00:21:07] We had some laughs in my theater, so...
[00:21:08] My dad, like, does not really go to movie theaters very much for various reasons.
[00:21:14] But, um...
[00:21:15] Yeah.
[00:21:16] So I didn't know that I inherited...
[00:21:18] I assumed, because you've met my mom, that I get a lot of things from my mom, right?
[00:21:22] Sure.
[00:21:22] But my loud talking in movie theaters comes from Papa Strauss.
[00:21:29] So that was a nice revelation, because I kept me at it.
[00:21:31] I was like, you have to whisper.
[00:21:33] Where most people are like, shh.
[00:21:35] So I'm not super, you know...
[00:21:37] Right.
[00:21:37] ...A plus on this.
[00:21:38] But I'm like, you have to actually whisper.
[00:21:40] Because he just talks like this in the movie.
[00:21:41] I'm like, okay.
[00:21:42] Grant...
[00:21:42] To be fair, though, a woman in front of us took a phone call during the movie.
[00:21:47] Oh, Lord.
[00:21:47] So...
[00:21:48] I would have been out.
[00:21:48] Gary's fine.
[00:21:49] You know what I mean?
[00:21:50] Yeah.
[00:21:50] I would have been out of there.
[00:21:51] Oh, my God.
[00:21:52] I was pissed.
[00:21:53] Yeah.
[00:21:53] My dad was like, it's okay.
[00:21:54] No, I'm down.
[00:21:55] Because, you know, I get angry.
[00:21:58] Yeah, yeah.
[00:21:59] Just a little.
[00:21:59] I have a slight temper, but...
[00:22:00] Yeah.
[00:22:01] Anyway.
[00:22:01] But no, I really liked it.
[00:22:03] I thought it was fantastical.
[00:22:05] Lots of interesting ideas.
[00:22:06] I liked the subtle...
[00:22:08] I think your computer's heating up is what it is.
[00:22:10] Henry's looking around for that sound.
[00:22:12] And I think it's your computer getting hot and toasty.
[00:22:16] Okay.
[00:22:17] Continue.
[00:22:21] Yeah.
[00:22:21] What was I saying?
[00:22:22] Oh, yeah.
[00:22:22] I like the subtle messages about friendship.
[00:22:25] Like, those are all very good for kids to see.
[00:22:27] The kid from mid-90s was in it.
[00:22:29] I said, oh, my God.
[00:22:30] Yeah, you're everywhere.
[00:22:31] Okay.
[00:22:32] He's been in, like, eight movies this year.
[00:22:33] You go.
[00:22:34] You know what I mean?
[00:22:35] A lot of kids these days in movies.
[00:22:39] Yeah.
[00:22:40] That's my input.
[00:22:41] Yeah, that is your input.
[00:22:42] But it's also a kid's movie is what makes sense.
[00:22:45] Fair.
[00:22:45] I'm always here for Jack Black.
[00:22:46] Oh, sure.
[00:22:46] I'm more here for Kate effing Blanchett.
[00:22:52] Blanchett.
[00:22:52] The way I pronounce her name sounds bad.
[00:22:55] Blanchett.
[00:22:56] Anyway.
[00:22:56] I'm obsessed with her.
[00:22:58] Except she didn't deserve the Oscar for Katherine Hepburn.
[00:23:01] That's the one thing I take issue with.
[00:23:02] We don't need to go down that rabbit hole again.
[00:23:04] But other than that, I love her.
[00:23:05] I love her.
[00:23:05] And she's great.
[00:23:06] And she was so good in this.
[00:23:08] Also, Henry, this had, like, a lot of subtle, like, intense tones.
[00:23:11] And I was kind of here for it.
[00:23:13] A lot of subtle tones.
[00:23:14] Poor Miss Zimmerman's, I think, husband and daughter died in, like, the Holocaust was the implication there.
[00:23:23] And I was like, gee willikers.
[00:23:24] And I loved, I always loved the overarching, overarching, overarching.
[00:23:31] Which, you live your life.
[00:23:32] I've heard it both ways.
[00:23:35] Theme of just, like, you know, love, triumphs overall.
[00:23:41] Like, you can be strong no matter what and find good somewhere.
[00:23:45] A classic tale.
[00:23:46] And we need that, you know?
[00:23:48] We need it.
[00:23:49] And it was an interesting story.
[00:23:51] Haven't seen it a thousand times.
[00:23:53] Sometimes.
[00:23:54] You know?
[00:23:55] I liked it a lot more than Henry.
[00:23:56] I can tell you from his face, which you can't see.
[00:23:58] But I have the privilege of doing so.
[00:24:01] If only.
[00:24:01] I know.
[00:24:02] We should do little YouTube videos.
[00:24:03] We always talk about this.
[00:24:04] We should start doing a video one.
[00:24:05] Oh, my God.
[00:24:06] No.
[00:24:06] Only little ones.
[00:24:08] Like, if you want a lot more of this, you can listen to our podcast.
[00:24:12] You know what I mean?
[00:24:12] We can do that.
[00:24:13] We should just do a bunch in one day.
[00:24:14] Except we won't know what the movies are like.
[00:24:16] But anyway.
[00:24:18] Yes.
[00:24:18] Oh, yeah.
[00:24:18] Should we mention that bonus thing?
[00:24:20] Yeah.
[00:24:21] We're going to do a bonus Harry Potter.
[00:24:23] In November.
[00:24:24] Yeah.
[00:24:25] Yeah.
[00:24:25] Can't wait.
[00:24:27] Yeah.
[00:24:28] Continue.
[00:24:29] Maybe Braden will be here.
[00:24:30] Maybe.
[00:24:30] That'd be so nice.
[00:24:31] Yeah.
[00:24:32] Or you can get one of your friends who are Potter files.
[00:24:35] We don't like that.
[00:24:36] Potter fans.
[00:24:37] Potter heads.
[00:24:37] Potter heads.
[00:24:38] Yeah.
[00:24:42] But, yeah.
[00:24:43] No, I just really liked it.
[00:24:44] I thought the acting was good.
[00:24:46] Non-Jacob Tremblay was super cute.
[00:24:48] I liked him a lot.
[00:24:49] This is really weird.
[00:24:51] Jacob Tremblay stand-in.
[00:24:52] I doubt it.
[00:24:53] I began to doubt it was Jacob Tremblay when the kid was crying.
[00:24:56] So, like, that's not how Jacob Tremblay cries.
[00:24:58] And I felt weird for, like, knowing that.
[00:25:00] But he cried a lot.
[00:25:00] He cried a lot in Room, okay?
[00:25:03] Yeah.
[00:25:03] And he also cried in Wonder, even though he had stuff.
[00:25:07] Didn't catch that one.
[00:25:07] You know, prosthetics.
[00:25:08] But Wonder?
[00:25:09] No.
[00:25:09] It's a good book.
[00:25:11] Jacob Tremblay only makes movies that were good books.
[00:25:13] Except Predator, I guess.
[00:25:14] I don't know.
[00:25:15] But.
[00:25:16] Probably a claimed novel.
[00:25:17] I picked up this book.
[00:25:20] And I'm ready to read it.
[00:25:22] I love a little fantasy.
[00:25:24] I'm not above reading a kid's book.
[00:25:26] Sure.
[00:25:27] You know?
[00:25:27] I'm confident.
[00:25:29] You know what I mean?
[00:25:30] One of my favorite books of all time is Phantom Tollbooth.
[00:25:36] Have you read that?
[00:25:37] No.
[00:25:38] Have you seen the movie?
[00:25:38] No.
[00:25:40] Henry!
[00:25:40] I'm literally planning to name a kid after that movie.
[00:25:44] Not like Tollbooth.
[00:25:45] The kid's name is Milo.
[00:25:47] But like, I'm obsessed with it.
[00:25:49] You've got to watch it.
[00:25:50] It's from like the 70s.
[00:25:51] Holds up.
[00:25:52] You've got to watch it.
[00:25:53] Is it like that Colin Farrell movie about the.
[00:25:56] Where he's in the phone booth and he's the snipers on him and he has to.
[00:25:59] Exactly.
[00:26:00] Mm-hmm.
[00:26:01] Nailed it.
[00:26:02] Yeah.
[00:26:03] No, it's so good.
[00:26:04] Everybody should go watch the Phantom Tollbooth.
[00:26:05] But no, I just love this kind of movie.
[00:26:07] Like, I love.
[00:26:08] Shoot.
[00:26:09] What's it called?
[00:26:11] Oh, for goodness.
[00:26:12] What's it called?
[00:26:12] With the big Chinese dragon looking thing and the kid and the never ending story.
[00:26:18] Love that.
[00:26:19] I love all this kind of stuff.
[00:26:20] You know what I mean?
[00:26:21] Love it.
[00:26:21] Why not?
[00:26:22] You know?
[00:26:23] It was not too long.
[00:26:25] It was a little.
[00:26:26] Look, I'll tell you.
[00:26:27] It was a little drawn out at times.
[00:26:31] Right?
[00:26:31] Yeah.
[00:26:32] But it's because you're supposed to take in the set.
[00:26:36] All that kind of stuff.
[00:26:37] Like, I get it.
[00:26:37] Also, like we said, it's a kid's movie.
[00:26:39] Like, kids, sometimes, you know, more time is better for them to take everything in.
[00:26:45] You know what I mean?
[00:26:45] It's just the way it, like, there's nothing wrong with that.
[00:26:48] So.
[00:26:48] No.
[00:26:49] This is like a movie that I will rewatch when I'm like.
[00:26:53] Painting.
[00:26:54] Exactly.
[00:26:54] Because there's some.
[00:26:55] Just look up every once in a while.
[00:26:56] There's some inspiration there.
[00:26:57] I wouldn't quite say.
[00:26:59] Well, now I'm getting annoying.
[00:27:00] I wasn't going to say painting, but like.
[00:27:02] It's drawing.
[00:27:03] It's like Valyrian.
[00:27:04] You know?
[00:27:04] Just look up.
[00:27:05] Yeah.
[00:27:05] See an awesome visual.
[00:27:06] Yeah.
[00:27:07] And it's sweet.
[00:27:08] And I like it.
[00:27:10] I'm so glad.
[00:27:11] Mm-hmm.
[00:27:12] Your turn.
[00:27:13] Well, I mean, I.
[00:27:15] I thought it was all right.
[00:27:16] I mean, I.
[00:27:18] I liked probably Jack Black and Cate Blanchett's chemistry and kind of their focus the most.
[00:27:25] Like, that's kind of what kept me going.
[00:27:28] Yeah.
[00:27:28] Definitely.
[00:27:29] Definitely.
[00:27:29] Yeah.
[00:27:30] My dad and I were the only ones laughing at their, like, jokes.
[00:27:33] And we were like, uh.
[00:27:35] Whoops.
[00:27:35] Yeah.
[00:27:36] This is our sense of humor, too.
[00:27:38] And while I agree, it didn't, it didn't overstate its welcome.
[00:27:43] Sorry, I can't really talk today.
[00:27:46] I felt like the pacing was a little lackluster.
[00:27:50] Like, I just felt like it.
[00:27:51] Right.
[00:27:52] It just kind of was not choppy, but it was a little sluggish for me.
[00:27:56] And so I, that's one thing I had an issue with.
[00:27:59] And I mean, I felt like it was kind of drawing from, you know, Del Toro, maybe a little Burton.
[00:28:05] Mm-hmm.
[00:28:06] Yeah.
[00:28:06] But.
[00:28:07] Not too much, though.
[00:28:08] Yeah.
[00:28:09] I don't think.
[00:28:10] I know.
[00:28:10] And so some of that just felt a little too familiar.
[00:28:13] But, I mean, I thought it was charming and fun.
[00:28:15] And it's just kind of light, you know, fantasy fare.
[00:28:20] Yeah.
[00:28:21] But, and I will say, I wasn't crazy about the humor aside from maybe some of the performance moments with Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
[00:28:29] But, you know, I mean, it's an interesting departure for Eli Roth.
[00:28:34] That's for sure.
[00:28:35] Yeah.
[00:28:35] And so I would be interested to see what he does after this.
[00:28:39] If he's just going to go right back or if he's going to keep down this road.
[00:28:43] I'm very curious, too.
[00:28:43] Because it's doing well.
[00:28:44] And so I could see him.
[00:28:46] Yeah.
[00:28:47] Because a lot of his other movies don't really do well.
[00:28:49] And so I could see him.
[00:28:49] They're repugnant.
[00:28:51] That's one word.
[00:28:54] So, yeah.
[00:28:57] Yeah.
[00:28:58] Yeah.
[00:28:59] Kyle MacLachlan.
[00:29:01] Always great.
[00:29:02] Sure.
[00:29:03] My goodness.
[00:29:04] Yeah.
[00:29:05] I liked their take on, like, witchcraft.
[00:29:10] That was very interesting.
[00:29:12] And yet that part was unusual.
[00:29:14] I know it's based on a book.
[00:29:15] But, like, that part was kind of unusual.
[00:29:17] You know?
[00:29:18] Yeah.
[00:29:18] Yeah.
[00:29:18] I mean, the one thing I'm kind of having issues with in this type of movie now is everything,
[00:29:25] in terms of the visuals, there are these, like, dark, glossy look to them.
[00:29:31] And it just gets a little repetitive.
[00:29:33] Like, it just, like, they're almost like taking from Alice in Wonderland.
[00:29:38] Like, all these movies.
[00:29:39] These Disney.
[00:29:40] What?
[00:29:40] This did not look like Alice in Wonderland.
[00:29:42] No, but I mean, in terms of this, like, it mixes these dark, glossy visuals with really bright ones.
[00:29:48] And it just starts to feel, especially in a lot of these other movies, it just feels kind of the same.
[00:29:56] Even if the designs are slightly different, I'm just starting to kind of phase out when I see that just because it feels the same.
[00:30:02] Hmm.
[00:30:03] I didn't quite get that from this.
[00:30:05] It's just like the aesthetic look feels very familiar.
[00:30:10] It's just getting a little boring.
[00:30:11] That's all.
[00:30:12] But, I mean, I agree there's some pretty inspired designs and I, so, you know.
[00:30:19] The house was dope?
[00:30:20] Yeah.
[00:30:21] Yeah.
[00:30:21] Cool house.
[00:30:22] I mean, I'd live there.
[00:30:23] I love it when houses are characters because I feel like my house has emotions.
[00:30:29] Sure.
[00:30:29] I know I sound like a freak, but sometimes I really feel like my house is, like, feeling stuff.
[00:30:36] No.
[00:30:37] We haven't gotten there yet.
[00:30:40] Yeah.
[00:30:41] But, you know what I mean?
[00:30:42] Mm-hmm.
[00:30:42] Which I think is, obviously, they say, like, it has personality, like.
[00:30:47] Which, yeah, I mean, is one of the things that.
[00:30:49] And I've lived in the same house my whole life, like.
[00:30:51] Yeah.
[00:30:51] So, yeah.
[00:30:52] So, yeah.
[00:30:52] I know what you mean.
[00:30:54] So, I, and I think that whole house aspect, too.
[00:30:58] I mean, that's kind of what it feels drawn from.
[00:31:02] Something like Del Toro with Crimson Peak or Tim Burton with, I don't know what's, isn't there
[00:31:10] one where it's, like, the house feels very iconic?
[00:31:14] Well, big fish houses were important.
[00:31:17] Yeah.
[00:31:17] I don't know which one you're talking about, though.
[00:31:18] Yeah.
[00:31:18] It'll come to me, but, yeah.
[00:31:20] They're all, well, even, like, Edward Tissorhands, I guess.
[00:31:23] Yeah.
[00:31:23] They all have pretty.
[00:31:24] Yeah.
[00:31:25] Where the, kind of, the location, it's not, it's not fetishized, but it's, it's very much
[00:31:30] a character.
[00:31:30] And so, I, I, I like that aspect to it because it feels a little more fleshed out and real.
[00:31:36] Yeah.
[00:31:36] You know?
[00:31:37] Mm-hmm.
[00:31:37] So, it's, I, and although it does, like, feel, I mean, I haven't seen it.
[00:31:45] I've only seen the trailers, but it does, which, especially with Jack Black in it, it just feels
[00:31:49] very similar to Goosebumps.
[00:31:51] Like, the same type of look, same type of character that he's playing, it just feels
[00:31:56] the same.
[00:31:57] And so, I mean, I'm always, I'm always here for Jack Black, you know?
[00:32:00] I, I love the guy.
[00:32:01] Yeah.
[00:32:01] But, it, that part, just, maybe just in terms of the casting, felt, like, a little lackluster.
[00:32:08] Yeah, but I mean, if it works, it works, you know?
[00:32:11] Yeah.
[00:32:12] Yeah.
[00:32:13] I guess, but.
[00:32:19] So.
[00:32:19] Yeah.
[00:32:20] I did, I did really like Cate Blanchett in it, and I, I just feel like they were putting
[00:32:25] in a lot more into this movie than what we were getting from it.
[00:32:30] Like, in terms of, like, the actors and everything, like, they were putting in a lot more, but
[00:32:36] it wasn't really being fully realized or presented on screen, if that makes any sense.
[00:32:43] Like, I, I just, I could see the, the work and the inspiration, but it just didn't kind
[00:32:49] of come together for me completely.
[00:32:51] Right.
[00:32:52] But, I mean, I still enjoyed it.
[00:32:53] I'm still waiting for, uh, no, I'm, am I?
[00:32:57] I can't decide.
[00:32:57] One of my fave movies in this genre, like, Yen and Tobu is up there, right?
[00:33:05] That one's a little more melanch, melanch.
[00:33:08] Okay.
[00:33:08] Melancholy?
[00:33:09] If you ask me, melancholic is a word I'm going to use it.
[00:33:11] Okay.
[00:33:12] It's not, I don't care.
[00:33:13] That sounds like someone who's just.
[00:33:15] If hangry can be in the actual dictionary, which it is now, by the way, and selfie, then I can use melancholic.
[00:33:22] I mean, that sounds like someone who's just depressed a lot.
[00:33:25] I'm a melancholic, you know?
[00:33:27] Yeah.
[00:33:28] Yeah.
[00:33:28] That's, yeah.
[00:33:29] So, but Bedknobs and Broomsticks, we've been over this.
[00:33:33] Obsessed.
[00:33:34] It's another older one.
[00:33:35] Like, go watch it.
[00:33:36] It's amazing.
[00:33:37] If you need that burst of, like, inspiration, like, just a happy little, it's a little, like, the underlying plot is a little intense, right?
[00:33:47] But it's so well done.
[00:33:50] So much fun.
[00:33:51] Go do it.
[00:33:53] You know?
[00:33:53] Yeah.
[00:33:55] Love it.
[00:33:56] Yeah.
[00:33:56] I'm also here for the new Mary Poppins.
[00:33:59] I'm surprised at myself.
[00:34:00] I thought you weren't.
[00:34:02] I know, but now I am.
[00:34:03] It does have that, again, it's like that dark, glossy look to it.
[00:34:08] It's just that same thing that I'm getting a little tired of.
[00:34:11] Yes.
[00:34:12] So.
[00:34:12] I see what you mean.
[00:34:17] Yeah, but I mean, I mean.
[00:34:18] Like a mirror glaze on a cake.
[00:34:20] Yeah.
[00:34:20] Something like that.
[00:34:21] Yeah.
[00:34:21] I got you.
[00:34:23] It's, well, I mean, no, Mary Poppins looks all right.
[00:34:24] I mean, it has Emily Blunt, so I'll save it for that.
[00:34:26] It has Dick Van Dyke.
[00:34:27] Oh, yeah.
[00:34:28] And Lin-Manuel Miranda.
[00:34:30] Yeah.
[00:34:31] Come on.
[00:34:31] So, I'm, who's.
[00:34:35] Rob Marshall doing that, I think.
[00:34:37] I don't know.
[00:34:37] The guy who did Into the Woods and.
[00:34:41] Oh, really?
[00:34:42] Pirates of the Caribbean 4, I think.
[00:34:44] I could be wrong, but it looks like his, that type of movie.
[00:34:48] Also, Ben Winshaw, Winshaw, Winshaw, isn't it?
[00:34:51] Winshaw, Winshaw.
[00:34:52] I don't know.
[00:34:52] That guy.
[00:34:53] Yeah.
[00:34:53] Which is kind of weird.
[00:34:55] Some of the casting seems weird to me, is my point.
[00:34:57] Mm-hmm.
[00:34:57] But.
[00:34:58] We'll see.
[00:34:59] You know?
[00:35:00] Yeah, we'll see.
[00:35:00] That's like.
[00:35:02] Oh, yeah.
[00:35:04] Okay.
[00:35:05] It was, it related me to a point that I had my mind that I had not fully recalled.
[00:35:12] And then once I did, I realized it's not yet applicable as it has to do with the next
[00:35:16] movie we'll be discussing.
[00:35:18] Oh, okay.
[00:35:19] Cool.
[00:35:21] All right.
[00:35:23] Anything else you want to mention?
[00:35:26] No.
[00:35:27] No?
[00:35:27] I liked it.
[00:35:28] I liked New Jacob Tremblay and I'm sorry to you that I forgot.
[00:35:32] Not that I forgot that I didn't know that you were not Jacob Tremblay.
[00:35:35] Yeah.
[00:35:35] I only found out.
[00:35:36] It's a compliment that I think you're Jacob Tremblay, by the way.
[00:35:39] Yeah.
[00:35:40] Yeah.
[00:35:40] I only realized that it was him after the fact because I was listening to a podcast and
[00:35:45] they said, oh yeah, and Jacob Tremblay, blah, blah, blah.
[00:35:47] I was like, oh, that's who the kid was.
[00:35:49] Oh, and Predator?
[00:35:50] Yeah.
[00:35:51] How rude.
[00:35:51] Was he good?
[00:35:52] Did he kill it?
[00:35:53] He was all right.
[00:35:53] How dare you?
[00:35:54] The character was a little annoying, but.
[00:35:56] Well, that's not his fault, is it?
[00:35:57] Sure it is.
[00:35:57] If the character was annoying, was he supposed to be annoying?
[00:36:01] I guess.
[00:36:01] Then Jacob Tremblay did a great job.
[00:36:03] Well, I mean, not necessarily in a good way.
[00:36:06] It's complicated.
[00:36:07] It's a whole thing.
[00:36:08] I don't care about Predator.
[00:36:10] You know.
[00:36:11] Is Predator an alien?
[00:36:12] Yeah.
[00:36:13] Okay.
[00:36:14] So what more do I need to know?
[00:36:15] Yeah.
[00:36:15] He's a, well, yeah, I mean, it's a pretty simple story.
[00:36:18] Just this alien comes to earth and they go after and try and kill it.
[00:36:24] Great.
[00:36:24] Yeah.
[00:36:25] How fresh and new.
[00:36:26] It's pretty thrilling.
[00:36:27] Yeah.
[00:36:27] So.
[00:36:27] I'm here for the Men in Black reboot with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.
[00:36:31] Oh, what?
[00:36:32] Tessa Thompson, sure.
[00:36:33] But I, yeah.
[00:36:34] I don't love Chris Hemsworth myself.
[00:36:37] Well, I'm more just tired of the reboot thing.
[00:36:40] That's all.
[00:36:41] It's not.
[00:36:42] Fair enough.
[00:36:42] I have nothing against them.
[00:36:43] But I feel like there's a lot to, generally, I'm with you.
[00:36:46] But reboots to me are at least better than remakes.
[00:36:50] Like this, I feel like they can do a lot.
[00:36:53] Like it's such a wide open world.
[00:36:55] Yeah.
[00:36:56] The Men in Black kind of world.
[00:36:57] You know what I mean?
[00:36:58] So I feel like, and perhaps because there's already an established universe there, that they
[00:37:05] can go more into the story faster.
[00:37:07] Yeah.
[00:37:07] Which I like.
[00:37:07] Yeah.
[00:37:08] You know what I mean?
[00:37:08] So I'm definitely keeping it, keeping it open.
[00:37:10] Yeah.
[00:37:11] Maybe so.
[00:37:12] All right.
[00:37:13] Well, out of five, I'll go three and a half.
[00:37:18] I'll go like a really nice surprise party that's not overdone, but like has some decorations,
[00:37:25] like a really pretty cake.
[00:37:26] Surprise party for you or someone else?
[00:37:28] Either one.
[00:37:29] I take joy in all such things.
[00:37:31] Okay.
[00:37:32] Maybe somebody else because I, I'm not going to divulge everything about my personal life
[00:37:38] on here, but I don't like birthdays so much.
[00:37:41] I feel like you mentioned that before.
[00:37:43] I'll tell you because my best friend, Mary makes fun of me for it all the time, like all
[00:37:48] the time.
[00:37:48] And now she can't, but I used to cry when people sang me happy birthday.
[00:37:52] Like out of joy?
[00:37:53] Like, no.
[00:37:54] Like I would break into, I'd break down.
[00:37:56] I'd have a breakdown.
[00:37:57] I'd just start crying.
[00:38:00] For unexplained reasons?
[00:38:01] I don't know, Henry.
[00:38:03] I was wondering if you just had, if you had some, you know, childhood trauma.
[00:38:07] I'm sure I did, Henry.
[00:38:09] You just can't think of it.
[00:38:10] Yeah.
[00:38:11] Well.
[00:38:11] Yeah.
[00:38:12] That's too bad.
[00:38:13] Yeah.
[00:38:13] So it's kind of funny.
[00:38:14] And now just nobody sings it to me.
[00:38:15] So it could still happen.
[00:38:17] But like Mary will start going happy birthday.
[00:38:19] I say, shut the F up.
[00:38:22] Huh.
[00:38:22] Yeah.
[00:38:23] But she's a good friend.
[00:38:24] Oh yeah.
[00:38:25] Sure.
[00:38:28] All right.
[00:38:28] I guess we can move on to Martin Scorsese's Hugo.
[00:38:35] And we have a clip for this one too.
[00:38:37] So take a listen.
[00:38:38] Monsieur Libby gave me a book the other night.
[00:38:41] He's always doing that.
[00:38:43] Sending books to a good home.
[00:38:46] That's what he calls it.
[00:38:49] He's got real purpose.
[00:38:55] What do you mean?
[00:38:57] Everything has a purpose.
[00:38:59] Even machines.
[00:39:01] Clocks tell the time.
[00:39:02] And trains take you places.
[00:39:05] They do what they're meant to do.
[00:39:07] Like Monsieur Libby.
[00:39:11] Maybe that's why broken machines make me so sad.
[00:39:15] They can't do what they're meant to do.
[00:39:18] Maybe it's the same with people.
[00:39:21] If you lose your purpose.
[00:39:24] It's like you're broken.
[00:39:27] Like Bajor.
[00:39:30] Maybe we can fix him.
[00:39:32] Okay.
[00:39:33] So.
[00:39:34] Hugo.
[00:39:36] Was released in 2011.
[00:39:38] And is directed by Martin Scorsese.
[00:39:42] And stars Ben Kingsley.
[00:39:45] Sacha Baron Cohen.
[00:39:46] Asa Butterfield.
[00:39:47] Is it Asa or Asa?
[00:39:48] Asa.
[00:39:49] Asa Butterfield.
[00:39:49] Chloe Grace Moretz.
[00:39:51] Ray Winstone.
[00:39:52] Emily Mortimer.
[00:39:53] Christopher Lee.
[00:39:55] Helen McCrory.
[00:39:56] Michael Stuhlberg.
[00:39:58] Jude Law.
[00:39:59] And the synopsis is.
[00:40:02] In Paris in 1931.
[00:40:03] An orphan named Hugo Cabret.
[00:40:06] Who lives in the walls of a train station.
[00:40:08] Is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father.
[00:40:11] And an automaton.
[00:40:15] And so.
[00:40:16] This one is.
[00:40:18] I mean similar to.
[00:40:20] House with a clock in its walls.
[00:40:22] For Eli Roth.
[00:40:23] This is.
[00:40:24] Martin Scorsese's only PG movie.
[00:40:27] To date.
[00:40:27] He made it for his child.
[00:40:29] Correct.
[00:40:30] And.
[00:40:31] So it was a.
[00:40:32] Yeah.
[00:40:33] Pretty big departure from what he'd been doing.
[00:40:35] Before.
[00:40:36] You know.
[00:40:36] He'd been doing like The Departed.
[00:40:37] And.
[00:40:38] I don't know what.
[00:40:39] The movie right before this was.
[00:40:41] But then.
[00:40:41] You know.
[00:40:42] He went on to do The Wolf of Wall Street.
[00:40:43] Right.
[00:40:44] Right after this.
[00:40:45] So.
[00:40:46] Let's see.
[00:40:47] I'm curious now too.
[00:40:48] And.
[00:40:49] So.
[00:40:49] I mean.
[00:40:49] This.
[00:40:50] For me.
[00:40:50] Is actually.
[00:40:51] One of my favorites.
[00:40:53] If not.
[00:40:54] My.
[00:40:54] Most favorite.
[00:40:55] Martin Scorsese movie.
[00:40:57] His movie right before this.
[00:41:00] Was a documentary called Public Speaking.
[00:41:04] Huh.
[00:41:04] About Fran Leibovitz.
[00:41:07] Interesting.
[00:41:08] Nobody saw that.
[00:41:09] Let's see.
[00:41:10] The one before that was.
[00:41:12] Letter to Elia.
[00:41:13] About Elia Kazan.
[00:41:14] Nobody saw that either.
[00:41:16] And then Shutter Island.
[00:41:17] Oh that's right.
[00:41:18] Yeah.
[00:41:18] Yeah.
[00:41:18] So it was a pretty big departure.
[00:41:20] Those were all the same year.
[00:41:20] So.
[00:41:21] Yeah.
[00:41:21] So this one.
[00:41:22] Yeah.
[00:41:22] It's definitely one of my favorites.
[00:41:23] And just kind of one of my favorite films.
[00:41:26] But.
[00:41:26] I mean.
[00:41:27] I think it's.
[00:41:29] It looks incredible.
[00:41:30] It looks incredible for one thing.
[00:41:31] The first.
[00:41:32] The open tracking shot.
[00:41:33] The open tracking shot.
[00:41:34] It took a thousand computers in one year.
[00:41:38] Wow.
[00:41:39] For one.
[00:41:41] Oh my God.
[00:41:42] That's Marty.
[00:41:43] You know.
[00:41:43] That's crazy.
[00:41:44] Yeah.
[00:41:45] So it's.
[00:41:45] It's incredibly well put together.
[00:41:47] Despite it being a very different type of film for Scorsese.
[00:41:51] And.
[00:41:52] That's because he knows his craft.
[00:41:54] So well.
[00:41:55] He can maneuver when he chooses.
[00:41:57] Yeah.
[00:41:57] Excellent.
[00:41:58] With excellence.
[00:41:59] You know what I mean.
[00:42:00] In case anyone has listened to the show before.
[00:42:03] I'm obsessed with Martin Scorsese.
[00:42:06] Yeah.
[00:42:06] So I.
[00:42:07] I think it's.
[00:42:08] It's able to balance.
[00:42:10] Like really great emotional drama.
[00:42:12] With very fun.
[00:42:13] Kind of magical.
[00:42:15] Humor.
[00:42:16] And.
[00:42:17] Adventure.
[00:42:18] I guess you can say.
[00:42:19] But I.
[00:42:20] I think this is probably.
[00:42:21] One of Asa Butterfield's.
[00:42:23] Only good.
[00:42:24] Yeah.
[00:42:24] Really performances.
[00:42:25] And good movies.
[00:42:26] Yeah.
[00:42:26] I guess Marty made him great.
[00:42:28] I don't know.
[00:42:28] Of course.
[00:42:29] Yeah.
[00:42:29] And.
[00:42:30] But I think that.
[00:42:31] The supporting cast is very good as well.
[00:42:33] Like.
[00:42:33] Yeah.
[00:42:33] I mean.
[00:42:33] Chloe Grace Moretz.
[00:42:34] You don't really like her.
[00:42:35] But I think she's.
[00:42:36] Pretty decent in this.
[00:42:38] And then.
[00:42:39] Ben Kingsley is the.
[00:42:41] What's his face?
[00:42:42] George.
[00:42:43] George.
[00:42:44] Yeah.
[00:42:45] Yeah.
[00:42:46] And it's just.
[00:42:47] The.
[00:42:48] And also I think.
[00:42:49] Similar to.
[00:42:50] House with the clock and its walls.
[00:42:51] The train station really feels.
[00:42:53] Like it is a character.
[00:42:54] And it's.
[00:42:54] Yeah.
[00:42:55] Very fleshed out.
[00:42:55] And it's not even real.
[00:42:56] Yeah.
[00:42:57] That's crazy.
[00:42:57] Yeah.
[00:42:58] There are.
[00:42:58] This is definitely his most.
[00:43:00] Most special effects heavy.
[00:43:02] By like.
[00:43:03] 95%.
[00:43:04] Yeah.
[00:43:05] And it's.
[00:43:05] But it doesn't really.
[00:43:07] Feel that way.
[00:43:08] Like it.
[00:43:09] No.
[00:43:10] Very.
[00:43:12] Yeah.
[00:43:13] Grounded.
[00:43:13] If that makes sense.
[00:43:14] The style overall.
[00:43:15] All matches really well.
[00:43:17] Yeah.
[00:43:18] So that helps.
[00:43:19] You know what I mean?
[00:43:19] Yeah.
[00:43:20] What's actually there matches the CGI really.
[00:43:22] Well.
[00:43:23] So aesthetically it goes together.
[00:43:24] It's not like.
[00:43:25] What the heck is that doing there?
[00:43:27] Yeah.
[00:43:27] You know?
[00:43:28] And I think.
[00:43:29] It feels somewhat Spielbergian.
[00:43:32] And the fact.
[00:43:32] That it's dealing with this boy.
[00:43:34] And his father.
[00:43:35] You know.
[00:43:35] It's this kind of paternal relationship.
[00:43:37] So I'm sure.
[00:43:38] Hashtag Jude Law.
[00:43:39] Yeah.
[00:43:39] He only had three minutes on screen.
[00:43:41] And guess what?
[00:43:41] He's great in it.
[00:43:42] He's really good.
[00:43:43] He's so good in it.
[00:43:43] He's really good.
[00:43:44] Three minutes.
[00:43:45] And he's so good.
[00:43:46] That's like.
[00:43:46] I think that's the.
[00:43:49] The least amount of screen time for an Oscar nomination was three minutes.
[00:43:53] I could be wrong.
[00:43:53] And I can't remember who it is.
[00:43:55] But I'm pretty sure that's a thing.
[00:43:59] But yeah.
[00:43:59] I'm going to look it up.
[00:44:02] You talk.
[00:44:02] You talk.
[00:44:03] You talk.
[00:44:03] You talk.
[00:44:04] You talk.
[00:44:04] And I love.
[00:44:05] Even though it's.
[00:44:06] A supporting element.
[00:44:08] I think the.
[00:44:08] The relationship between.
[00:44:10] The relationship between.
[00:44:38] Since the second half in particular.
[00:44:40] Since the second half in particular is really dealing with.
[00:44:41] The magic of movies.
[00:44:43] It always makes me.
[00:44:45] Or reminds me.
[00:44:46] Why I love movies.
[00:44:47] And you can.
[00:44:48] Anyone who's interested in cinema should watch this.
[00:44:51] Just because it shows.
[00:44:52] Definitely.
[00:44:53] The early stages.
[00:44:55] Of movies.
[00:44:56] And.
[00:44:56] And.
[00:44:57] The inspiration behind it.
[00:44:58] And it's very.
[00:45:00] Moving.
[00:45:01] It's very also.
[00:45:02] Comprehensive.
[00:45:03] Like.
[00:45:03] On so many levels.
[00:45:04] It demonstrates.
[00:45:06] His love of cinema overall.
[00:45:08] Because he takes from all these different.
[00:45:10] Places.
[00:45:11] Throughout.
[00:45:12] The cinematic timeline.
[00:45:14] Like as far as technique.
[00:45:16] And style.
[00:45:17] And.
[00:45:18] Yeah.
[00:45:19] It's pretty.
[00:45:20] It's pretty.
[00:45:21] Amazing.
[00:45:21] Yeah.
[00:45:22] Also.
[00:45:23] Hermione.
[00:45:24] Badly.
[00:45:25] For.
[00:45:25] Room at the Top.
[00:45:26] In 1959.
[00:45:28] Got a nomination.
[00:45:28] For two minutes.
[00:45:29] And 20 seconds.
[00:45:30] On screen.
[00:45:31] Huh.
[00:45:31] Side note.
[00:45:33] And I.
[00:45:34] I think also.
[00:45:35] Howard Shore's score.
[00:45:36] Is also very good.
[00:45:37] Yeah.
[00:45:38] Which I mean.
[00:45:38] It's not a revolutionary score.
[00:45:40] But it fits the movie.
[00:45:40] But it's pretty and fun.
[00:45:41] Exactly.
[00:45:42] Yeah.
[00:45:42] It flows really well.
[00:45:44] It all just.
[00:45:44] It's seamless.
[00:45:45] It's a seamless movie.
[00:45:47] Yeah.
[00:45:47] And I have not talked to anyone.
[00:45:49] Who has seen it.
[00:45:50] And dislikes it.
[00:45:51] Yeah.
[00:45:51] Not.
[00:45:52] Not a person.
[00:45:53] Yeah.
[00:45:54] But yeah.
[00:45:55] I agree with you.
[00:45:56] The more you.
[00:45:57] Love movies.
[00:45:58] The more elevated the movie is.
[00:46:00] Yeah.
[00:46:00] And the screenplay is written by John Logan.
[00:46:02] Who did.
[00:46:03] He wrote Skyfall.
[00:46:05] Rango.
[00:46:06] Classic.
[00:46:07] My movie.
[00:46:08] My plane movie.
[00:46:09] Yeah.
[00:46:10] The Last Samurai.
[00:46:12] Classic.
[00:46:12] And some others as well.
[00:46:14] So he's a pretty big screenwriter.
[00:46:15] But it's.
[00:46:16] I mean.
[00:46:16] It's based off a novel.
[00:46:17] Of course.
[00:46:17] But.
[00:46:18] Right.
[00:46:19] Still at a.
[00:46:20] As we all know.
[00:46:21] That does not always go so well.
[00:46:24] Yeah.
[00:46:25] So yeah.
[00:46:26] I mean.
[00:46:26] It's.
[00:46:26] I.
[00:46:27] Have you read it?
[00:46:28] I have not.
[00:46:28] It's pretty cute.
[00:46:29] You should.
[00:46:30] You should read it.
[00:46:30] Check it out.
[00:46:31] It's worth it.
[00:46:32] Mm hmm.
[00:46:34] Not above it.
[00:46:37] Also.
[00:46:37] I was like about the right age.
[00:46:39] I think when the movie.
[00:46:40] No.
[00:46:40] I wasn't.
[00:46:41] How old was I?
[00:46:41] What year is it?
[00:46:43] Seven years ago?
[00:46:43] 2011.
[00:46:44] How old was I?
[00:46:44] No.
[00:46:44] I wasn't the right age.
[00:46:45] But I read it anyway.
[00:46:48] I guess I was 17.
[00:46:49] I don't think.
[00:46:50] I didn't see it in theaters.
[00:46:51] You were 17.
[00:46:52] Ish.
[00:46:52] So I was.
[00:46:53] 15.
[00:46:54] 14.
[00:46:54] 14.
[00:46:55] 15.
[00:46:55] Yeah.
[00:46:55] I didn't.
[00:46:56] You didn't see it in theaters?
[00:46:57] No.
[00:46:58] So.
[00:47:00] Since.
[00:47:01] My youth.
[00:47:02] I have been.
[00:47:03] A staunch opposer of 3D.
[00:47:06] I'm not a 3D guy.
[00:47:08] But apparently.
[00:47:09] Everyone who saw this in 3D.
[00:47:10] Including reviews.
[00:47:11] If I'm not mistaken.
[00:47:12] At the time.
[00:47:12] Was like.
[00:47:13] You should see this in 3D.
[00:47:14] Yeah.
[00:47:14] And I didn't.
[00:47:15] Because I hate it.
[00:47:16] And now I regret it.
[00:47:17] Yeah.
[00:47:17] I did hear that's one of the few.
[00:47:19] That really did it well.
[00:47:21] You know.
[00:47:22] You respect.
[00:47:23] You know.
[00:47:24] If he's going to do it.
[00:47:26] It's going to be done well.
[00:47:28] Yeah.
[00:47:28] And I heard.
[00:47:29] With Pacific Rim.
[00:47:30] Del Toro's.
[00:47:31] 3D.
[00:47:32] Of that movie.
[00:47:33] Was great.
[00:47:34] I didn't see it in 3D.
[00:47:35] But.
[00:47:35] That makes sense too.
[00:47:37] Yeah.
[00:47:37] It's just hard to trust.
[00:47:39] When you've been hurt so many times.
[00:47:41] Indeed.
[00:47:41] By Avatar.
[00:47:44] Yeah.
[00:47:45] So it's.
[00:47:46] It's.
[00:47:47] Yeah.
[00:47:47] Definitely a special.
[00:47:48] Movie for me.
[00:47:49] And it's.
[00:47:50] Yeah.
[00:47:50] Really worth watching.
[00:47:51] Especially if you are.
[00:47:52] A Scorsese fan.
[00:47:53] Yeah.
[00:47:54] Just.
[00:47:54] Just a movie fan.
[00:47:55] You know.
[00:47:55] It's a biggie for.
[00:47:57] My dad and me too.
[00:47:59] Like remember how Cooper's talking about Spirit Away.
[00:48:02] Being like.
[00:48:02] Yeah.
[00:48:03] Yeah.
[00:48:03] This is like my spirit away.
[00:48:05] P.S.
[00:48:05] Happy birthday Cooper.
[00:48:07] Oh yeah.
[00:48:07] Happy.
[00:48:08] Yeah.
[00:48:08] Cooper.
[00:48:08] Yeah.
[00:48:08] Cooper who's.
[00:48:09] Was on the show a few months ago.
[00:48:12] His hit.
[00:48:13] Was his birthday yesterday.
[00:48:15] Two days ago.
[00:48:15] Two days ago.
[00:48:16] So.
[00:48:17] If you're listening man.
[00:48:18] Hope you're well.
[00:48:18] He's probably not listening.
[00:48:19] But that's okay.
[00:48:20] He told me to say hi to you.
[00:48:21] Oh.
[00:48:21] Hi Cooper.
[00:48:22] And then.
[00:48:22] And Brayden.
[00:48:24] Hey Brayden.
[00:48:25] LOL.
[00:48:26] And yeah.
[00:48:27] We will really try and get Brayden on.
[00:48:30] Cause I talked to him the other day.
[00:48:31] And so it would maybe be best if we could try and record on a Sunday.
[00:48:36] So.
[00:48:36] I'm trying to.
[00:48:37] Jeez.
[00:48:38] My mother just broke her leg.
[00:48:39] That would have been a perfect excuse for being I can't work on Sunday.
[00:48:43] You have to take advantage of your misfortune.
[00:48:45] That's true.
[00:48:47] Damn.
[00:48:49] I'm really not coming out well on this podcast ethically.
[00:48:52] That's okay.
[00:48:52] There's plenty of others that they can listen to.
[00:48:55] So.
[00:48:56] Yeah.
[00:48:56] Great.
[00:48:57] Yeah.
[00:48:58] It's just.
[00:48:58] It's just a great movie.
[00:48:59] It's on Amazon Prime right now I think.
[00:49:01] Is it?
[00:49:01] I believe so.
[00:49:02] Oh my god.
[00:49:03] Go listen.
[00:49:03] You got.
[00:49:04] I mean watch.
[00:49:05] You need to go watch.
[00:49:06] Either one.
[00:49:06] Or listen to it.
[00:49:07] Either one.
[00:49:08] If a movie's good it should hold up no matter what sense you're using.
[00:49:14] Yep.
[00:49:17] Yeah.
[00:49:18] So.
[00:49:18] Yeah.
[00:49:19] So appealing.
[00:49:20] And I love.
[00:49:21] And obviously it's a complete.
[00:49:23] Sorry that was my fault.
[00:49:24] It was a complete.
[00:49:26] I was tapping my leg.
[00:49:27] It's a complete departure thematically from what he had done in the past.
[00:49:32] What he has done since.
[00:49:34] More or less.
[00:49:34] Right.
[00:49:35] But a lot of the themes are still there.
[00:49:37] Like.
[00:49:38] He loves dealing with characters.
[00:49:42] How do I phrase this?
[00:49:44] Well it's kind of different.
[00:49:45] He likes dealing with gray characters.
[00:49:48] Like we're saying.
[00:49:48] House clock.
[00:49:49] Whatever.
[00:49:50] Is black and white.
[00:49:51] This.
[00:49:52] Everything he does.
[00:49:53] Super gray.
[00:49:54] Right.
[00:49:54] You usually follow the bad guy.
[00:49:56] And like.
[00:49:57] Like him.
[00:49:58] In most of.
[00:49:59] Scorsese's movies.
[00:50:00] Right.
[00:50:01] And this one.
[00:50:02] What he brought to it.
[00:50:03] Because like.
[00:50:04] It is a kid's movie.
[00:50:05] Obviously it's based on.
[00:50:07] A book.
[00:50:07] Like we said.
[00:50:08] But aside from that.
[00:50:09] He still chose to.
[00:50:10] Embrace these parts.
[00:50:11] Where you start with people.
[00:50:13] Who you think are the bad guys.
[00:50:14] Like Ben Kingsley.
[00:50:15] And Sacha Baron Cohen.
[00:50:16] And they.
[00:50:17] Aren't great.
[00:50:18] Because they're not happy.
[00:50:19] Right.
[00:50:20] But they can still.
[00:50:21] They transform.
[00:50:23] Yeah.
[00:50:24] To be.
[00:50:24] You know.
[00:50:25] Like good guys.
[00:50:26] Basically.
[00:50:27] You know.
[00:50:27] And it's.
[00:50:27] I just love.
[00:50:29] How he brought.
[00:50:30] So many elements.
[00:50:32] That he.
[00:50:33] Utilized.
[00:50:34] Has utilized.
[00:50:35] In all of his other works.
[00:50:36] Into this.
[00:50:37] Like it's a coherent part.
[00:50:38] Of his.
[00:50:41] Filmography.
[00:50:42] Yeah.
[00:50:42] You know.
[00:50:43] It makes sense.
[00:50:44] And I just.
[00:50:44] I just really admire.
[00:50:46] How he can.
[00:50:47] Do what he wants.
[00:50:48] Because he's in control.
[00:50:50] Yeah.
[00:50:50] You know.
[00:50:50] Yeah.
[00:50:51] And if you do.
[00:50:52] It's pretty.
[00:50:53] Crazy.
[00:50:54] To just look.
[00:50:55] Back at the.
[00:50:56] Last few films.
[00:50:57] He's done.
[00:50:57] Because he did this.
[00:50:58] Wolf of Wall Street.
[00:50:59] And Silence.
[00:51:01] So different.
[00:51:02] And they're like.
[00:51:02] I just read Silence.
[00:51:03] Pretty good.
[00:51:04] Yeah.
[00:51:04] I think I read it.
[00:51:05] Years ago.
[00:51:06] I think.
[00:51:07] But.
[00:51:08] It's thick.
[00:51:09] It is.
[00:51:09] Yeah.
[00:51:10] With two C's.
[00:51:11] Yeah.
[00:51:11] Yeah.
[00:51:13] It's so.
[00:51:13] It's.
[00:51:14] I mean.
[00:51:14] It's rare.
[00:51:15] A filmmaker.
[00:51:16] Can.
[00:51:16] Have that much variety.
[00:51:18] And also.
[00:51:18] Have them all be great.
[00:51:20] We've had questions like that.
[00:51:22] Like do you think it's better.
[00:51:23] If.
[00:51:23] Oh yeah.
[00:51:24] Director.
[00:51:26] Can do.
[00:51:27] Medio.
[00:51:28] Medio.
[00:51:29] Mediocre.
[00:51:30] I kept it in my head saying.
[00:51:31] Mediocrity.
[00:51:32] Mediocre movies across genres.
[00:51:34] Or.
[00:51:34] Be really good in their genre.
[00:51:36] No.
[00:51:37] Be like Martin Scorsese.
[00:51:38] Just kill it.
[00:51:39] Do it or don't.
[00:51:40] Yeah.
[00:51:40] Just kill it.
[00:51:41] Across the board.
[00:51:42] Just kill it.
[00:51:42] Yeah.
[00:51:43] Oh my gosh.
[00:51:45] Love.
[00:51:45] Yeah.
[00:51:46] All right.
[00:51:47] Well.
[00:51:47] It's a five for me.
[00:51:48] Heavy five.
[00:51:49] Oh my God.
[00:51:50] God.
[00:51:51] You know what it is?
[00:51:52] Stick with me here.
[00:51:53] Okay.
[00:51:54] It's like the first time.
[00:51:55] On my phone.
[00:51:57] I saw.
[00:51:58] Anybody do that like confetti.
[00:52:00] Where like you.
[00:52:01] You write something.
[00:52:01] You text something to them.
[00:52:02] And then they can make confetti.
[00:52:04] Right.
[00:52:04] On your phone.
[00:52:05] I was like oh my God.
[00:52:07] Wow.
[00:52:07] Like that.
[00:52:08] Special moment.
[00:52:09] Except I don't love technology.
[00:52:11] So take the technology element out of that.
[00:52:13] Just the wonder I had it.
[00:52:14] Oh my gosh.
[00:52:15] Like this.
[00:52:15] I'm sure I could think of a better example.
[00:52:18] You know what else it reminds me of?
[00:52:20] When I was a wee lass.
[00:52:23] Because we miss Brayden.
[00:52:24] Sure.
[00:52:26] I was like obsessed with the Big Apple Circus.
[00:52:28] Which is a circus in New York.
[00:52:29] As the title announces.
[00:52:32] And I was on crutches.
[00:52:33] Whatever.
[00:52:34] And I was like obsessed with it.
[00:52:35] Like I went every year.
[00:52:37] With my fam.
[00:52:38] And I was obsessed with Grandma.
[00:52:39] Who was the lead clown.
[00:52:42] And because my mom and my aunt are like amazing fairy godmothers.
[00:52:47] Except you know it doesn't quite make sense.
[00:52:49] Because they're my actual family and all that stuff.
[00:52:51] But anyway.
[00:52:52] So they make wonderful things happen.
[00:52:54] So we met Grandma.
[00:52:54] And I was like oh my God.
[00:52:55] I love you.
[00:52:55] But probably didn't talk.
[00:52:56] Because I was really shy.
[00:52:57] And I was doing everything like this.
[00:52:58] But Grandma took us backstage behind the circus.
[00:53:02] And I got to see the circus in all its real glory.
[00:53:05] And where everyone was kind of like staying.
[00:53:07] Like the little tents and stuff.
[00:53:08] It was like the best thing ever.
[00:53:10] Yeah.
[00:53:11] That's much better than the phone confetti.
[00:53:14] But that is what sprang to mind.
[00:53:16] So that is what I said.
[00:53:17] Hey.
[00:53:17] Whatever does it.
[00:53:18] You know?
[00:53:19] Yeah.
[00:53:20] All right.
[00:53:22] Well.
[00:53:22] P.S.
[00:53:22] That circus only took in previously abused animals.
[00:53:26] So.
[00:53:26] It respected the animals.
[00:53:28] Okay.
[00:53:29] Good.
[00:53:30] I was wondering.
[00:53:31] So.
[00:53:33] All right.
[00:53:34] Well I guess with the reviews done.
[00:53:36] Any.
[00:53:36] Some news you want to talk about Chloe?
[00:53:38] I'm kind of mad at myself this week with news.
[00:53:40] Because I have not.
[00:53:41] It's been like.
[00:53:43] One of those.
[00:53:44] Yeah.
[00:53:45] So I did make my usual list.
[00:53:47] You check out that new X-Men trailer?
[00:53:50] I did.
[00:53:51] Not great.
[00:53:52] There's nothing about it I'm interested in.
[00:53:55] Yeah.
[00:53:55] Like not one element.
[00:53:57] Yeah.
[00:53:57] I mean.
[00:53:57] I like the X-Men franchise a lot.
[00:54:00] But it just was.
[00:54:02] Like for one.
[00:54:03] There's just a lack of any interesting visuals.
[00:54:05] Oh my God.
[00:54:06] It was just a bunch of.
[00:54:07] Same.
[00:54:07] Same.
[00:54:08] Same.
[00:54:08] Blah blah blah.
[00:54:08] Over and over.
[00:54:09] It was just a bunch of like.
[00:54:11] Tight close ups on actors.
[00:54:12] Giving these kind of overly serious.
[00:54:15] Yeah.
[00:54:16] Monologues.
[00:54:16] And lines.
[00:54:17] And it was just.
[00:54:18] We've had enough.
[00:54:19] Yeah.
[00:54:19] I'm not saying.
[00:54:20] I mean.
[00:54:20] I guess Marvel is taking control of that.
[00:54:23] Yes they are.
[00:54:24] So this is probably going to be.
[00:54:27] A new phase.
[00:54:28] Yeah.
[00:54:29] So this is hopefully going to be the.
[00:54:31] Darkest before the dawn moment.
[00:54:33] Yeah.
[00:54:33] You know.
[00:54:34] Did you hear that Gambit is going to be a romantic comedy?
[00:54:38] I think I did.
[00:54:39] What the heck?
[00:54:40] That'll be interesting.
[00:54:41] What the heck are you talking about people?
[00:54:43] So yeah.
[00:54:44] That one comes out in next February.
[00:54:46] I believe.
[00:54:47] Which is just like a dump month.
[00:54:50] For movies.
[00:54:51] So.
[00:54:52] Yeah.
[00:54:53] And then also they have their.
[00:54:55] New.
[00:54:55] Their horror one.
[00:54:56] Like that has the girl from.
[00:54:58] Maisie Williams.
[00:54:59] Yes.
[00:55:00] It's got lots of people in it actually.
[00:55:02] Yeah.
[00:55:02] It got pushed back.
[00:55:02] I think Anna Taylor-Joy is in it.
[00:55:04] Yeah.
[00:55:05] And there's a dude who's.
[00:55:07] I don't know.
[00:55:08] I haven't seen that trailer.
[00:55:09] In a.
[00:55:09] That trailer came out a long time ago.
[00:55:11] Because it got pushed back like a year.
[00:55:13] Yeah.
[00:55:13] And so that's coming out next.
[00:55:15] Early next year I believe as well.
[00:55:16] And so I'm.
[00:55:17] Guessing they're probably not going to have.
[00:55:19] Much luck with either.
[00:55:20] But who knows.
[00:55:21] I'm more interested in the horror one.
[00:55:23] What they would do with that.
[00:55:24] But.
[00:55:24] We'll see.
[00:55:25] Yeah.
[00:55:26] We'll see.
[00:55:26] Yeah.
[00:55:27] Other than that.
[00:55:28] I don't know if there's been.
[00:55:29] Did we say Taron Egerton is playing Elton John?
[00:55:32] I did see a photo of that.
[00:55:34] That will be interesting.
[00:55:35] It's going to be dope.
[00:55:36] Yeah.
[00:55:37] Tom Hanks is playing Mr. Rogers.
[00:55:39] Everything the world does not need.
[00:55:41] But.
[00:55:41] People are going to love it.
[00:55:43] Because it's Tom Hanks and Mr. Rogers.
[00:55:45] Like name a more iconic duo.
[00:55:47] Yeah.
[00:55:48] You can't.
[00:55:48] It's kind of.
[00:55:49] Yeah.
[00:55:49] Hard to dislike.
[00:55:50] I mean.
[00:55:50] I think it's going to be a lot like.
[00:55:52] Saving Mr. Banks.
[00:55:54] I don't know.
[00:55:55] It might be kind of different.
[00:55:56] I mean the type of character.
[00:55:57] Like.
[00:55:58] It just feels.
[00:55:59] Yeah.
[00:56:00] Looks the same.
[00:56:01] Mm-hmm.
[00:56:01] I mean.
[00:56:01] I love Tom Hanks.
[00:56:02] So I'm fine with it.
[00:56:03] But it does look.
[00:56:05] Yeah.
[00:56:06] Like it's just going to be a crowd pleaser.
[00:56:07] Yeah.
[00:56:08] Exactly.
[00:56:08] Big time.
[00:56:09] Yeah.
[00:56:09] You know.
[00:56:10] Which like.
[00:56:11] Yeah.
[00:56:11] It has its place.
[00:56:13] You know.
[00:56:13] It has its place.
[00:56:14] I'm not mad at it.
[00:56:16] But I'm not like.
[00:56:17] Psyched.
[00:56:18] Yeah.
[00:56:19] Um.
[00:56:20] Oh my god.
[00:56:21] There was a knock at the door.
[00:56:22] Somebody at the door.
[00:56:23] Yeah.
[00:56:24] So.
[00:56:24] No.
[00:56:25] No problems.
[00:56:25] Just our.
[00:56:27] Nice neighbor of ours.
[00:56:28] And her.
[00:56:28] Young daughter.
[00:56:29] Just brought us a little picture.
[00:56:30] Drew a picture for my mother.
[00:56:31] That's too cute.
[00:56:32] I want to.
[00:56:33] This is like why I like living here.
[00:56:35] You know what I mean?
[00:56:36] Yeah.
[00:56:36] It's.
[00:56:36] It's.
[00:56:37] I'm telling you.
[00:56:37] It's a good spot to be.
[00:56:39] It is.
[00:56:39] So yeah.
[00:56:40] And when I go see my mom later.
[00:56:41] I'll bring her the flowers.
[00:56:43] You brought us.
[00:56:43] Thank you again.
[00:56:44] Oh you're so welcome.
[00:56:45] And then I'll bring her this picture.
[00:56:47] So that'll make her day.
[00:56:47] I'm sure.
[00:56:48] Her flowers are definitely prettier than the ones I brought.
[00:56:51] But I'm not a miracle worker.
[00:56:54] So yeah.
[00:56:55] Well.
[00:56:56] There's more news.
[00:56:58] Slightly more news.
[00:56:59] Let's do it.
[00:57:00] They're bringing back Veronica Mars.
[00:57:02] That's dope.
[00:57:04] Okay.
[00:57:05] Alan Cummings is going to be in a villain in Doctor Who.
[00:57:08] I can't wait.
[00:57:10] That's like everything I love.
[00:57:11] I'm so here for that.
[00:57:14] Also the final trailer for Fantastic Beasts came out.
[00:57:18] Yeah.
[00:57:19] I did see that.
[00:57:19] Oh my God.
[00:57:20] It looks amazing.
[00:57:23] Everyone I've talked to.
[00:57:24] No.
[00:57:24] Henry.
[00:57:25] Don't get mad at me.
[00:57:26] Don't get sassy on me.
[00:57:27] They're hating on Depp.
[00:57:28] Yep.
[00:57:29] Everyone's like yes it looks perfect except Johnny Depp brings it down to a two.
[00:57:33] And I'm like I know but let's just.
[00:57:35] Get out of here.
[00:57:35] I'll stick with it.
[00:57:36] Just go watch his Letterman interviews.
[00:57:38] It goes.
[00:57:39] Oh my gosh.
[00:57:41] Anyway.
[00:57:43] It's the same thing though with like Scorsese.
[00:57:45] Like JK Rowling to me is like my as you know a role model of mine in many ways including
[00:57:51] morally.
[00:57:52] And if she has investigated the situation obviously better than I could I'm gonna kind
[00:57:58] of pay attention to what she says.
[00:58:01] Do you know what I mean?
[00:58:02] Sure.
[00:58:02] She has gained that level of respect through all of her work.
[00:58:08] You know?
[00:58:09] Not like her writing.
[00:58:11] I'm not stupid but like her humanitarianism and blah blah blah blah blah.
[00:58:15] And she comes out against stuff like you know.
[00:58:17] But there's.
[00:58:17] Speaking of which.
[00:58:18] There's this very odd controversy.
[00:58:20] Also before I get into the controversy I just need to make it known.
[00:58:24] Like this is the episode of Jude Law.
[00:58:27] Like he is the.
[00:58:28] Before that I'm not saying that I.
[00:58:32] I.
[00:58:32] I'm not saying this to credit myself.
[00:58:34] I'm saying this to.
[00:58:35] To pronounce how excited I am for him playing Dumbledore.
[00:58:40] I have wanted him to play Dumbledore for years and years and years.
[00:58:43] Like I think I've even said on the podcast like.
[00:58:46] Like one of the first times I was on it maybe.
[00:58:48] But I'm so excited.
[00:58:50] Like he's perfect for Dumbledore.
[00:58:53] Can't wait.
[00:58:54] Love that they're looking into their little homosexual relationship on screen.
[00:58:58] Okay.
[00:58:58] Yes.
[00:58:59] Anyway.
[00:59:00] What's all.
[00:59:01] This.
[00:59:02] I keep on seeing all these posters and this.
[00:59:04] All this big buzz about this like girl that's in it now.
[00:59:07] Like Nadine or Nagini or something.
[00:59:10] Like some new character or something.
[00:59:12] It's an issue.
[00:59:12] It's actually that is the issue now.
[00:59:14] Oh okay.
[00:59:15] Because people.
[00:59:15] Okay look.
[00:59:16] Everyone knows that I'm overzealously.
[00:59:19] Like.
[00:59:20] Not overzealous.
[00:59:21] I'm not ashamed.
[00:59:22] But I.
[00:59:23] I'm.
[00:59:24] I put a lot of thought into things.
[00:59:28] Their ethical standards as far as I can see all this kind of stuff.
[00:59:32] You know.
[00:59:32] Sure.
[00:59:32] Because it matters to me.
[00:59:34] And it.
[00:59:34] It influences whether I want to or not how I take in anything.
[00:59:39] You know.
[00:59:40] Which I'm fine with.
[00:59:41] But the drama on the internet is people don't like that Nagini is being played by a Korean
[00:59:47] actress.
[00:59:49] So apparently.
[00:59:50] I'll.
[00:59:50] I'll back up.
[00:59:51] Who's Nagini though?
[00:59:52] Let me back up.
[00:59:53] Okay.
[00:59:53] Because you don't know anything about Harry Potter.
[00:59:55] Nagini is Voldemort's snake.
[00:59:58] Ah.
[00:59:58] That's right.
[00:59:59] Yeah.
[00:59:59] It's a huge deal.
[01:00:01] Yeah.
[01:00:01] She's a huge deal.
[01:00:02] Right?
[01:00:03] Yeah.
[01:00:03] I remember that.
[01:00:04] JK says she's been sitting on this for 20 years.
[01:00:06] I believe her because she's a queen.
[01:00:08] Right?
[01:00:09] That Nagini was at one point a witch who through a maternal family blood curse transformed into
[01:00:18] a snake.
[01:00:19] Okay.
[01:00:19] I'm here for it.
[01:00:21] People are mad that a Korean actress was cast for two reasons.
[01:00:27] One reason is because Nagini stems from an Indian.
[01:00:34] It's an Indian word.
[01:00:35] It stems from Indian culture.
[01:00:37] Right?
[01:00:39] I understand the argument.
[01:00:42] But if that were the case, almost everyone in Harry Potter would have to be Italian due
[01:00:48] to the Latin nature of everyone's names.
[01:00:50] Okay?
[01:00:51] My name is French.
[01:00:53] Do I sound French to you?
[01:00:55] Maybe.
[01:00:56] Let me marry Timothy Chalamet and I'll work on a dual citizenship.
[01:01:00] Okay?
[01:01:01] Anyway.
[01:01:03] Oh my God.
[01:01:04] Can I kill you Henri?
[01:01:05] No, I hate that.
[01:01:06] Don't.
[01:01:06] Okay.
[01:01:07] Let's not go there.
[01:01:08] The second reason people don't like that she's a Korean actress.
[01:01:11] Now this one, even I roll my eyes out.
[01:01:14] Okay?
[01:01:15] I respect your opinion, but I honestly respect your opinion.
[01:01:19] But if this opinion came into my head, I would say, Chloe, that's silly.
[01:01:24] Right?
[01:01:25] Okay.
[01:01:26] People are mad that a Korean actress has been cast to play Nagini because she becomes as
[01:01:33] they, I don't remember the word that I read in the article, but relatively like enslaved
[01:01:39] to a character who symbolizes Nazism.
[01:01:41] Everyone knows that Harry Potter is basically symbolic of the whole Hitler thing, right?
[01:01:47] Sure.
[01:01:47] It's an age old thing.
[01:01:49] It's not new.
[01:01:50] And it's not even a Hitler thing.
[01:01:51] It's the idea of Nazism in a more broad, this notion that has been around since people
[01:02:02] basically because some people suck is often identifies Nazism because it's most relevant
[01:02:09] and most dramatic and traumatic to a lot of people at the moment.
[01:02:12] Most identifiable, right?
[01:02:13] Okay.
[01:02:16] Sorry.
[01:02:18] So anyway, but people are mad that a minority has been cast in that role.
[01:02:26] Right.
[01:02:26] To be enslaved by a, which I'm like, oh my God, are you serious?
[01:02:30] Come on.
[01:02:31] You can't want diversity.
[01:02:33] There aren't that many new characters, right?
[01:02:36] You can't want that much diversity and also not want it.
[01:02:40] It's just also you're saying that this person is defined only by their, you know, culture
[01:02:50] and in some ways appearance.
[01:02:52] Sure.
[01:02:53] And I'm just not about that.
[01:02:55] I think that's dumb.
[01:02:57] Also, it's kind of victim blaming because it's not your fault if you're, it's just,
[01:03:00] you know what I mean?
[01:03:01] Yeah.
[01:03:01] It's too much.
[01:03:02] It's too much.
[01:03:03] I'm not here for it.
[01:03:04] People are dumb.
[01:03:04] People are dumb.
[01:03:06] I'm really excited because Gemma Chan's role is bigger in this movie and that's all I care
[01:03:09] about.
[01:03:10] And I'm not linking those two because they're both Asian.
[01:03:11] I'm linking those two because I love Gemma Chan.
[01:03:14] Which one is she?
[01:03:15] Is she Cho?
[01:03:16] Yeah.
[01:03:17] No.
[01:03:17] What?
[01:03:18] I don't know.
[01:03:19] Oh my God.
[01:03:20] Cho wasn't born yet.
[01:03:21] I'm mad.
[01:03:22] I said yes by accident.
[01:03:23] Oh yeah.
[01:03:24] Sorry.
[01:03:25] Is she Gemma?
[01:03:27] She's in the witch's council.
[01:03:29] Just leave it.
[01:03:30] Oh, is she the, is she the.
[01:03:31] Gemma Chan was Astrid in Crazy Rich Asians and she's, she had a one second on screen in the
[01:03:38] last movie, but she's back in this one.
[01:03:40] I think I know who you are.
[01:03:41] And I, the minute I saw her last time and she had one second movie, I said, no, I know
[01:03:45] who you are, Gemma Chan.
[01:03:46] You're super famous.
[01:03:47] You're coming back.
[01:03:48] Yes, queen.
[01:03:49] And then the opposite happened with me when I saw Zoe Kravitz's picture.
[01:03:52] I said, oh, for crap's sake.
[01:03:53] Yeah.
[01:03:55] Because I don't like her.
[01:03:57] Anyway.
[01:03:59] Anyway.
[01:04:00] So anyway, I'm excited.
[01:04:01] Looks way better than the last one.
[01:04:02] I love that little newt's going to be in this because we're really getting some Harry
[01:04:05] Potter vibes.
[01:04:07] Super excited.
[01:04:07] Still waiting for that Teddy Lupin series.
[01:04:10] And I will keep waiting.
[01:04:13] And I love Harry Potter and I love Jude Law.
[01:04:15] Yeah.
[01:04:16] And he's the perfect Dumbledore.
[01:04:18] Sure.
[01:04:19] Well, cool.
[01:04:20] I know.
[01:04:21] I'm, I'm interested to see it.
[01:04:23] So it'll be, it'll be a good, it'll be a good discussion.
[01:04:26] You know?
[01:04:26] Can't wait.
[01:04:27] It's going on.
[01:04:28] November.
[01:04:29] So.
[01:04:29] And every movie takes place and somebody figured this out a long time ago.
[01:04:33] And it was like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
[01:04:35] And even JK was impressed because she was like, oh my God, you're so smart.
[01:04:38] You figured it out.
[01:04:38] Because each movie is taking place in a different country.
[01:04:41] Yes.
[01:04:42] Wow.
[01:04:43] Can't wait.
[01:04:44] Oh, there's seven?
[01:04:45] Yeah.
[01:04:45] Good Lord.
[01:04:46] Shut up.
[01:04:48] And I thought there's only five.
[01:04:50] Other five?
[01:04:51] Five.
[01:04:51] I'm going to wishful thinking seven.
[01:04:53] They'll probably, I mean, they'll find a way to do more.
[01:04:56] So.
[01:04:56] All right.
[01:04:57] Well, yeah, that one comes out in November at some point.
[01:04:59] Not sure the exact day, but.
[01:05:00] But, and then, yeah, so we will probably try and do a Harry Potter bonus show around that
[01:05:09] time and release it through Bandcamp.
[01:05:10] So we'll just go through all the Harry Potter movies and then try and do the first Fantastic
[01:05:15] Beasts as well.
[01:05:16] But we'll figure something out.
[01:05:19] So, yeah, we'll keep you updated on that.
[01:05:22] All right.
[01:05:22] Any other news you can think of?
[01:05:25] No.
[01:05:26] No.
[01:05:26] Hasn't been that much of a, the real news has been overtaken, the media news this week.
[01:05:32] Or not media, the, you know.
[01:05:33] Yeah.
[01:05:34] Political?
[01:05:36] Well.
[01:05:36] You know what I mean.
[01:05:37] Yeah.
[01:05:38] We all know what I mean.
[01:05:39] Yeah.
[01:05:40] All right.
[01:05:40] Well, I guess we can just move on to some mail.
[01:05:45] So the filmbudspodcast at gmail.com is the address they can reach us.
[01:05:49] Also on Twitter at filmbudds and on Facebook.
[01:05:52] So feel free to follow us wherever.
[01:05:54] Send us any question, comment if you're a new listener or if you've been listening for
[01:05:58] a while.
[01:05:59] Feel free.
[01:06:00] You know, whatever.
[01:06:01] We'd love to hear what you have to say.
[01:06:04] So the one we have this week is from Lillian.
[01:06:07] Hello, Lillian.
[01:06:08] So she says, hi, filmbudds.
[01:06:09] Hello.
[01:06:10] What do you think makes a good comedian?
[01:06:13] Do you think it's more so the person, person's natural personality and style?
[01:06:18] Or do you think it's more so that they happen to choose good projects with smart writing,
[01:06:23] et cetera?
[01:06:24] Keep up the good work, Lillian.
[01:06:26] You're too Lillian.
[01:06:27] Come to my Harry Potter Halloween party.
[01:06:29] Wherever you are.
[01:06:30] That's a good question.
[01:06:32] I think it's more so the personality.
[01:06:35] And I mean, because they can sometimes.
[01:06:38] They can carry a movie.
[01:06:39] Is that?
[01:06:39] Yeah.
[01:06:40] Yeah.
[01:06:41] I mean, like Steve Carell.
[01:06:43] For the most.
[01:06:43] King amongst men.
[01:06:45] Wow.
[01:06:46] He can make stuff funny even if it's not that funny.
[01:06:48] Definitely.
[01:06:49] Although, I mean, he has been in a few duds.
[01:06:50] Except for dinner for schmucks, which offended me to my core.
[01:06:52] No.
[01:06:53] That one's fine.
[01:06:54] But like.
[01:06:54] No.
[01:06:54] It offended me to my core.
[01:06:56] And Paul Rudd, both of them.
[01:06:57] Oh my God.
[01:06:58] I was so disappointed.
[01:06:59] That's like when you find out your teacher doesn't like sleep at school.
[01:07:02] You're like, ew, you have a girlfriend?
[01:07:04] I hate that.
[01:07:05] You know what I mean?
[01:07:06] What?
[01:07:06] No.
[01:07:07] I felt betrayed is my point.
[01:07:10] I just like when he has his laugh, his iconic Steve Carell laugh in that movie.
[01:07:14] It's very good.
[01:07:15] It's good.
[01:07:16] That was the first movie I, that was like the first hangout I had with my stepdad was
[01:07:23] seeing that movie.
[01:07:24] Oh yeah?
[01:07:24] Yeah.
[01:07:25] But.
[01:07:26] And we all hated it.
[01:07:28] Because it offended us to our cores.
[01:07:29] We should have known that it's called Dinner for Schmucks, which in my language, I feel bad
[01:07:33] even saying that on here.
[01:07:34] That's a bad word.
[01:07:35] Yeah.
[01:07:36] I'm sorry.
[01:07:37] I'm very sorry.
[01:07:40] There's worse ones, but.
[01:07:41] Yeah.
[01:07:41] I think a good comedian first and foremost is the person themselves rather than the projects.
[01:07:50] Just because you can get lucky every once in a while, but I think after a while you'd
[01:07:53] start to see.
[01:07:54] Mm-hmm.
[01:07:56] I think it's the whole package.
[01:07:57] Things fall apart.
[01:07:58] Yeah.
[01:07:58] I think one should feed into the other.
[01:08:01] I mean like Will Ferrell is a little bit of both.
[01:08:03] I mean he can make things hilarious.
[01:08:06] But also he's been in some movies where he just picks terrible movies and they're just
[01:08:11] not funny.
[01:08:12] But then he can be.
[01:08:13] What's your favorite Will Ferrell movie?
[01:08:15] I know mine.
[01:08:16] Real quick.
[01:08:17] What?
[01:08:18] Kicking and Screaming.
[01:08:20] I'm obsessed.
[01:08:21] Obviously that was like my childhood though, right?
[01:08:23] It's like my life.
[01:08:25] I love.
[01:08:25] But I love Kicking and Screaming.
[01:08:26] I love Blades of Glory a lot.
[01:08:28] Really?
[01:08:29] Yeah.
[01:08:29] That makes perfect sense.
[01:08:30] Yeah.
[01:08:30] Yeah.
[01:08:32] I mean I think no because that one.
[01:08:33] Henry loves all the ones they play on TBS.
[01:08:36] Yeah.
[01:08:39] My mom.
[01:08:40] No she won't get mad.
[01:08:41] Pamela is a lovely woman.
[01:08:43] She is.
[01:08:44] She.
[01:08:44] Telling a night she peed herself.
[01:08:46] She thought it was so funny.
[01:08:46] Oh I like it a lot too.
[01:08:48] I mean there's some things that don't really hold up but I find it pretty funny overall.
[01:08:53] Yeah.
[01:08:54] So good.
[01:08:54] And a weird role for Amy Adams.
[01:08:57] Weird.
[01:08:57] I'm obsessed with her.
[01:08:58] Yeah.
[01:08:59] Kind of a.
[01:09:00] I had forgotten that she was in that when I rewatched it most recently.
[01:09:03] I'm like she just kind of pops up.
[01:09:04] Amy?
[01:09:05] What are you doing here?
[01:09:06] And you're in the office?
[01:09:07] Oh my God.
[01:09:08] Yeah.
[01:09:08] That is weird that she's in that.
[01:09:10] Yeah.
[01:09:10] It's kind of a strange appearance but.
[01:09:12] She's fake Pam.
[01:09:14] Yeah.
[01:09:15] Yeah.
[01:09:15] Yeah.
[01:09:16] So I mean I.
[01:09:17] Well what are some other comedians?
[01:09:18] Well there's Kristen Wiig.
[01:09:20] I think she's able to make things.
[01:09:22] Kristen Wiig's not my fave.
[01:09:23] Really?
[01:09:24] She was on SNL like everybody else.
[01:09:26] Like I love Target Lady and stuff.
[01:09:28] But I just don't love her.
[01:09:30] I like her for the most part.
[01:09:32] I mean there's sometimes where she goes a little too Kate McKinnon.
[01:09:36] But I mean I do find her funny a lot.
[01:09:40] Melissa McCarthy I think picks good projects overall.
[01:09:43] Yeah.
[01:09:44] I do.
[01:09:44] I think she's been in a lot of kind of dud comedies lately.
[01:09:49] Like the puppet murders and that life.
[01:09:53] Happy time murders.
[01:09:54] Happy time murders.
[01:09:55] The like life of the party and.
[01:09:57] Oh yeah.
[01:09:58] Yeah.
[01:09:58] I mean that new movie she's in is supposed to be really good.
[01:10:01] The kind of interesting one.
[01:10:02] The writer one.
[01:10:03] Yeah.
[01:10:03] That's kind of a departure.
[01:10:04] I don't know.
[01:10:05] I'm trying to think of comedians I really pay attention to.
[01:10:11] But it's hard for me.
[01:10:13] We've talked about this.
[01:10:14] I don't really do very many comedy movies.
[01:10:16] I'm more of a comedy TV person.
[01:10:19] Like Amy Poehler picks good projects.
[01:10:21] For sure.
[01:10:23] Even like Adam Scott.
[01:10:25] I think when he does that.
[01:10:27] When he goes down that route.
[01:10:28] He's good at it.
[01:10:29] I'm much more of a TV comedy person.
[01:10:32] Yeah.
[01:10:32] For sure.
[01:10:33] And I mean I feel like there are.
[01:10:35] Like Joaquin Phoenix is hilarious and an inherent vice.
[01:10:39] But then he's not really.
[01:10:41] Doesn't do a ton of comedies really.
[01:10:43] But it is interesting to see a dramatic actor do that.
[01:10:47] Or be a comedian and vice versa.
[01:10:49] Liam Neeson.
[01:10:51] Yeah.
[01:10:51] He loved him in what's it called?
[01:10:53] The Lego movie.
[01:10:54] That's not what I was referring to.
[01:10:56] Oh.
[01:10:56] Still.
[01:10:56] He was in Life is Short.
[01:10:58] And it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life.
[01:11:00] I think Johnny Depp was in that.
[01:11:01] So you should check it out.
[01:11:02] Oh.
[01:11:02] I will.
[01:11:02] Yeah.
[01:11:03] You know I love me some Ricky Gervais.
[01:11:05] Oh.
[01:11:05] And I do find Johnny Depp hilarious.
[01:11:07] So that's one.
[01:11:07] And Ricky Gervais does his own.
[01:11:09] Stuff.
[01:11:10] Yeah.
[01:11:10] So that's like the jackpot right there.
[01:11:13] Yeah.
[01:11:14] Yeah.
[01:11:14] If you like him.
[01:11:15] But you see my point in general.
[01:11:17] If you have a comedian.
[01:11:18] Where's their personality?
[01:11:19] And they take that personality and feed it into work.
[01:11:22] That's like wow.
[01:11:24] Yeah.
[01:11:24] Wow.
[01:11:25] It's a lot.
[01:11:25] Flavor explosion.
[01:11:26] Yeah.
[01:11:28] Yeah.
[01:11:29] I mean I.
[01:11:32] I love comedy.
[01:11:33] You know.
[01:11:34] Yeah.
[01:11:34] I mean we're such funny.
[01:11:36] Yeah.
[01:11:36] Laughing.
[01:11:37] Fun loving.
[01:11:37] Nothing better than that.
[01:11:38] People.
[01:11:39] Yeah.
[01:11:40] Wow.
[01:11:41] And so I.
[01:11:42] I like Vince Vaughn a lot.
[01:11:44] Oh my.
[01:11:45] Henry take it back.
[01:11:46] Why?
[01:11:46] He's a terrible person.
[01:11:47] He's a bad actor.
[01:11:48] I don't know about that.
[01:11:49] And he makes stupid movies.
[01:11:50] I love wedding.
[01:11:51] I love him in Wedding Crashers.
[01:11:52] I love him in a lot of stuff.
[01:11:54] I'm sorry.
[01:11:54] You're doing so well.
[01:11:55] I'm sorry.
[01:11:56] I love the guy.
[01:11:57] I find him hilarious for the most part.
[01:11:59] Really?
[01:12:00] Yeah.
[01:12:00] It's bizarre.
[01:12:02] The Franco brothers.
[01:12:05] James Franco can be funny.
[01:12:07] Not as much Dave.
[01:12:08] But.
[01:12:08] Shut up.
[01:12:09] Sorry.
[01:12:11] Yeah.
[01:12:11] But I mean.
[01:12:12] Dave is a straight man.
[01:12:13] Okay.
[01:12:14] There's a lot of respect.
[01:12:15] for the straight men.
[01:12:17] Okay.
[01:12:18] I mean.
[01:12:19] I would prefer James Franco's comedy.
[01:12:22] Like Pineapple Express.
[01:12:23] And Spring Breakers.
[01:12:25] It's like you don't like the straight men.
[01:12:27] And I think they're usually funnier.
[01:12:28] Like Adam Scott's usually a straight man.
[01:12:30] I don't mean like.
[01:12:32] I mean.
[01:12:33] Sexuality wise.
[01:12:33] No.
[01:12:34] No.
[01:12:34] I mean.
[01:12:34] No I got that.
[01:12:35] Just so everyone is clear.
[01:12:37] I got.
[01:12:37] I mean.
[01:12:38] I find Adam Scott to be pretty funny.
[01:12:41] Yeah.
[01:12:41] But I mean.
[01:12:42] It's.
[01:12:43] I mean.
[01:12:43] I like the straight men.
[01:12:44] I mean.
[01:12:45] Yeah.
[01:12:47] Quote unquote.
[01:12:48] That'd be a good improv group name.
[01:12:50] But it's only women.
[01:12:53] You should start it.
[01:12:54] I will.
[01:12:55] Okay.
[01:12:56] I already have.
[01:12:57] It's a one woman improv group.
[01:12:59] So far.
[01:12:59] And I just stand there and yell at people.
[01:13:01] Slowly growing.
[01:13:02] No.
[01:13:03] Just you?
[01:13:04] Yep.
[01:13:05] You just like.
[01:13:05] Rent a.
[01:13:06] Uh huh.
[01:13:07] Yeah.
[01:13:08] A place for an hour.
[01:13:09] And just do it.
[01:13:10] You know.
[01:13:10] Yeah.
[01:13:11] I feel like.
[01:13:12] Unfortunately.
[01:13:13] The type of comedy.
[01:13:14] I would be best at.
[01:13:15] Is the annoying kind.
[01:13:17] Where they like.
[01:13:18] Roast people in the audience.
[01:13:20] I can see you doing that.
[01:13:22] I'm quick on my feet.
[01:13:23] Yeah.
[01:13:23] Quick on my feet.
[01:13:24] That's true.
[01:13:25] People used to.
[01:13:26] This is really funny actually.
[01:13:27] Listen to this.
[01:13:28] This is a true story.
[01:13:29] In middle school.
[01:13:31] I was not like.
[01:13:32] A cool kid in middle school.
[01:13:34] Right?
[01:13:34] Right.
[01:13:35] But I had like.
[01:13:37] Secret liaisons with the cool kid.
[01:13:38] Not in any kind of weird way.
[01:13:40] Is that the wrong word?
[01:13:41] Yeah.
[01:13:42] You had secret.
[01:13:43] Secret.
[01:13:44] Like low key friendships.
[01:13:47] With?
[01:13:48] Like the cool boys mainly.
[01:13:50] Right?
[01:13:50] Okay.
[01:13:51] Because our personalities meshed.
[01:13:52] Sure.
[01:13:53] But I wasn't in that like world.
[01:13:54] You know what I mean?
[01:13:55] Because I didn't fit into the.
[01:13:57] Stereotype.
[01:13:58] Also I didn't want to.
[01:13:58] Because Mary and I hate everybody.
[01:14:00] And we loved it that way.
[01:14:01] Sure.
[01:14:02] Right?
[01:14:02] So.
[01:14:03] The.
[01:14:04] Some of those boys.
[01:14:05] This is no joke.
[01:14:07] Used to text me.
[01:14:10] Something that someone else had just texted them.
[01:14:14] Requesting comebacks.
[01:14:16] That's odd.
[01:14:17] Isn't that?
[01:14:18] I never.
[01:14:18] I have not thought about that since middle school.
[01:14:21] But that is weird.
[01:14:22] But also I'm honored.
[01:14:24] You know what I mean?
[01:14:25] So I used to just be texted.
[01:14:28] You know.
[01:14:29] Like insults.
[01:14:30] Yeah.
[01:14:31] You were that third party.
[01:14:32] To do comebacks.
[01:14:32] Yeah.
[01:14:32] Which doesn't really exist in the world.
[01:14:35] But I did that.
[01:14:35] That was my thing.
[01:14:36] Wow.
[01:14:37] I'm glad.
[01:14:37] Yes.
[01:14:38] I was also voted in.
[01:14:40] I think it was.
[01:14:42] Fourth grade.
[01:14:43] I was voted class lawyer.
[01:14:45] So if anyone was in a fight.
[01:14:48] I would.
[01:14:50] You would mediate.
[01:14:51] Yes.
[01:14:52] Huh.
[01:14:53] Which is not what a lawyer does.
[01:14:55] I didn't.
[01:14:55] That is a mediator.
[01:14:57] But we didn't know what that was.
[01:14:58] Well.
[01:14:58] So.
[01:14:59] Yes.
[01:15:00] Cool.
[01:15:01] I also had a new show.
[01:15:03] At.
[01:15:04] Recess.
[01:15:06] Where the kids.
[01:15:07] A new show.
[01:15:08] A new show.
[01:15:08] Yeah.
[01:15:08] The kids would sit on.
[01:15:10] You know how playgrounds are outlined by the like wood.
[01:15:14] Yeah.
[01:15:15] You know.
[01:15:15] I don't know.
[01:15:15] You know what I mean?
[01:15:16] I think everybody knows what I mean.
[01:15:17] Right.
[01:15:18] Yeah.
[01:15:18] Yeah.
[01:15:19] So the kids would sit on that.
[01:15:20] And then.
[01:15:21] People I picked.
[01:15:22] Like Kaylee was in there.
[01:15:23] But she like.
[01:15:24] Wouldn't talk.
[01:15:25] So she didn't really do anything.
[01:15:26] She was weather.
[01:15:27] But she like.
[01:15:27] Wouldn't talk.
[01:15:28] I know.
[01:15:29] They put her in the slow class.
[01:15:31] Because she wouldn't talk out loud.
[01:15:32] Oh boy.
[01:15:33] I know.
[01:15:34] Anyway.
[01:15:34] Poor thing.
[01:15:35] It was.
[01:15:35] I think it was four.
[01:15:36] And.
[01:15:37] I'm not saying this in a rude way.
[01:15:38] Because it's an actual issue and everything.
[01:15:40] But just factually.
[01:15:41] They thought she could not read.
[01:15:42] That is how little she spoke.
[01:15:44] Huh.
[01:15:45] Right.
[01:15:45] Yeah.
[01:15:45] So anyway.
[01:15:46] So yeah.
[01:15:46] We had a new show.
[01:15:47] I would sit.
[01:15:48] And I would be like.
[01:15:49] This is what's going on this week.
[01:15:50] And then I'd be like.
[01:15:51] Now over to blah blah blah.
[01:15:52] With sports.
[01:15:53] Or something like that.
[01:15:53] That makes sense.
[01:15:54] Isn't that bizarre?
[01:15:55] So it was like you're.
[01:15:57] You started the Daily Show almost.
[01:15:59] You know.
[01:16:00] Heck.
[01:16:01] It already happened.
[01:16:02] Daily Show had already started.
[01:16:04] When I was in fourth grade.
[01:16:06] Oh.
[01:16:06] Well.
[01:16:07] You were.
[01:16:07] Yeah.
[01:16:08] The kid version of that.
[01:16:08] I did watch a lot of Daily Show though.
[01:16:11] Because of Papa Strauss again.
[01:16:13] Yeah.
[01:16:14] He was so sad he couldn't come.
[01:16:15] Man.
[01:16:16] I'm sorry man.
[01:16:17] Next.
[01:16:17] You know.
[01:16:18] Next time.
[01:16:18] Next time.
[01:16:19] Yeah.
[01:16:19] We'll figure out a good day.
[01:16:21] Mm-hmm.
[01:16:21] So.
[01:16:23] Well cool.
[01:16:25] Little tidbits there.
[01:16:26] Well I hope that answers your question though.
[01:16:29] So.
[01:16:30] All right.
[01:16:31] Well.
[01:16:31] That's a good question.
[01:16:32] Yeah.
[01:16:32] Send us more questions.
[01:16:33] We love questions guys.
[01:16:34] Yeah.
[01:16:35] We do.
[01:16:35] It's our favorite part of the show.
[01:16:36] Because it makes us feel like we have friends.
[01:16:37] Aside from just.
[01:16:39] The two of us in here.
[01:16:40] The two of us.
[01:16:40] And also Brayden.
[01:16:41] Really likes us.
[01:16:43] Yeah.
[01:16:43] Don't get twisted.
[01:16:43] Yeah.
[01:16:44] I did talk to him the other day.
[01:16:45] Me too.
[01:16:46] He's doing all right.
[01:16:46] Yeah.
[01:16:46] He always smiles and waves at me.
[01:16:48] And then he.
[01:16:49] Sometimes he even comes out and talks to me.
[01:16:51] And you guys don't understand.
[01:16:53] Like that is a lot.
[01:16:54] Yeah.
[01:16:55] Yeah.
[01:16:56] Like when people see him smiling and wave to me.
[01:16:58] Like.
[01:16:58] People who work at Jovian Go that I still know.
[01:17:00] Which is like nobody.
[01:17:01] Yeah.
[01:17:01] But like some of them and everything.
[01:17:03] They're like.
[01:17:03] Whoa.
[01:17:04] Brayden smiles at you.
[01:17:05] And I'm like.
[01:17:06] Heck yeah.
[01:17:07] Yeah.
[01:17:08] Go way back.
[01:17:09] You know.
[01:17:09] Way back.
[01:17:10] Yeah.
[01:17:10] Yeah.
[01:17:11] Well cool.
[01:17:11] Well thanks for the email Lillian.
[01:17:13] And again feel free to send us anything you like.
[01:17:16] Whether on email or.
[01:17:17] You know.
[01:17:18] Twitter.
[01:17:18] Facebook.
[01:17:18] Whatever.
[01:17:19] We'll answer it.
[01:17:20] One way or the other.
[01:17:21] Yeah.
[01:17:22] So I guess we just do our picks of the week.
[01:17:24] I don't have too much.
[01:17:27] Trying to remember my shiz.
[01:17:28] Which I'm not good at as everybody knows.
[01:17:30] Yeah.
[01:17:31] So I rewatched.
[01:17:32] Excuse me.
[01:17:34] I rewatched Patterson.
[01:17:36] With Adam Driver?
[01:17:37] Yes.
[01:17:37] Which is on Amazon Prime now.
[01:17:39] Directed by Jim Jarmusch.
[01:17:41] Who also did Dead Man.
[01:17:43] What a name.
[01:17:43] Only Lovers Left Alive.
[01:17:45] Oh boy.
[01:17:46] Oh boy.
[01:17:47] Ugh.
[01:17:48] Yeah.
[01:17:49] Yeah.
[01:17:49] So.
[01:17:50] Yeah.
[01:17:50] This one is about.
[01:17:52] Adam Driver is a bus driver.
[01:17:55] Who lives in the town of Patterson.
[01:17:57] And he's.
[01:17:59] Also a.
[01:18:00] A poet.
[01:18:01] I mean not like a published poet.
[01:18:02] But he.
[01:18:03] Right.
[01:18:03] Continually writes.
[01:18:04] He's a poet.
[01:18:05] Yes.
[01:18:06] And it's very much about.
[01:18:08] You spend a week with him.
[01:18:10] Going through his daily life.
[01:18:13] And you.
[01:18:14] Kind of seeing the repetition in that.
[01:18:15] But also seeing the.
[01:18:17] Kind of nice.
[01:18:19] Or satisfaction.
[01:18:20] Of just having a very.
[01:18:22] Calm.
[01:18:23] Simple life.
[01:18:24] With.
[01:18:24] He and his girlfriend.
[01:18:25] And his dog.
[01:18:26] And it also brings up the ideas of.
[01:18:29] What is.
[01:18:31] What makes.
[01:18:32] Poetry good.
[01:18:33] Or what it.
[01:18:33] What makes art.
[01:18:35] Actually good.
[01:18:36] And you know.
[01:18:37] If.
[01:18:38] Because he's.
[01:18:38] Always just writing random.
[01:18:40] Bits of poetry.
[01:18:41] Like he sees a box of.
[01:18:42] Matches.
[01:18:43] And he writes a poet.
[01:18:44] Or poem about that.
[01:18:46] Yeah.
[01:18:46] And so.
[01:18:47] Brings up a lot of interesting ideas.
[01:18:49] About.
[01:18:49] The creative process.
[01:18:51] And it's also just a very relaxing.
[01:18:53] Movie to watch.
[01:18:54] Because it's very mellow.
[01:18:56] And quiet.
[01:18:57] And.
[01:18:57] But it's very well put together.
[01:18:58] There.
[01:18:59] Adam Driver is great in it.
[01:19:00] And his girlfriend who.
[01:19:02] I don't know her name.
[01:19:03] And I hadn't seen her before.
[01:19:04] But she's great in it.
[01:19:05] And they're also just these little bits.
[01:19:07] And pieces of.
[01:19:09] Characters that are put in.
[01:19:10] Just for one scene or two.
[01:19:12] And then they.
[01:19:13] Kind of go on their way.
[01:19:14] But they're really interesting.
[01:19:17] Little.
[01:19:19] Snippets.
[01:19:19] Yeah.
[01:19:19] Snippets.
[01:19:20] In the film.
[01:19:21] And so it's really worth checking out.
[01:19:23] If.
[01:19:24] You're either a fan of the director.
[01:19:26] Or if you just.
[01:19:26] Want to watch a.
[01:19:28] Calm.
[01:19:28] Interesting movie.
[01:19:31] Then.
[01:19:32] I rewatched.
[01:19:33] The other night.
[01:19:34] The original Halloween.
[01:19:35] Oh Jesus.
[01:19:36] In kind of.
[01:19:37] In anticipation for the new one coming out.
[01:19:39] In just a couple of weeks.
[01:19:40] I'm on vacation the week that that comes out.
[01:19:43] We don't need to review it.
[01:19:44] It's fine.
[01:19:44] Okay.
[01:19:44] So.
[01:19:45] But yeah.
[01:19:45] I might not go.
[01:19:47] On vacation.
[01:19:48] Okay.
[01:19:49] Just let me know.
[01:19:50] So.
[01:19:52] It's.
[01:19:52] Yeah.
[01:19:53] It's.
[01:19:54] A film that I definitely really like.
[01:19:56] It's.
[01:19:56] It's not perfect.
[01:19:57] But.
[01:19:57] I.
[01:19:58] It's just a really well shot.
[01:19:59] Very entertaining.
[01:20:02] Amazing score.
[01:20:04] Early slasher movie.
[01:20:06] And it's.
[01:20:06] It's not.
[01:20:07] You know.
[01:20:07] Anything too gory.
[01:20:08] Or too crazy.
[01:20:09] It's just very simple.
[01:20:10] And.
[01:20:11] Got some good thrills.
[01:20:13] And scares in it.
[01:20:14] And.
[01:20:14] Yeah.
[01:20:15] So.
[01:20:15] It's.
[01:20:15] And it's definitely of course.
[01:20:16] Had plenty of.
[01:20:18] Influence.
[01:20:18] Over the years.
[01:20:19] So that one's really good.
[01:20:20] And then also.
[01:20:22] One that you'd have even less interest in.
[01:20:24] So.
[01:20:24] I occasionally watch.
[01:20:26] Very rarely.
[01:20:27] But I watch the.
[01:20:28] Some of the.
[01:20:28] D.C.
[01:20:29] Animated.
[01:20:30] Comic book movies.
[01:20:31] Like my favorite thing.
[01:20:32] Yeah.
[01:20:34] And I watched.
[01:20:36] Suicide Squad.
[01:20:37] Hell to pay.
[01:20:38] Oh my God.
[01:20:39] Which came out.
[01:20:39] I think it may have come out.
[01:20:40] This year.
[01:20:41] Perfect for children.
[01:20:41] Yeah.
[01:20:42] Or last year.
[01:20:42] Well it's.
[01:20:42] It's R rated.
[01:20:43] So.
[01:20:43] I mean.
[01:20:45] You know.
[01:20:46] What?
[01:20:47] Rating.
[01:20:48] Confusing.
[01:20:48] Yeah.
[01:20:49] So this one.
[01:20:51] I mean a lot of the live action.
[01:20:52] DC movies have not really had much luck.
[01:20:54] But I do like this.
[01:20:55] Live action Suicide Squad.
[01:20:57] To a certain degree.
[01:20:58] And I like the.
[01:20:59] The characters.
[01:20:59] And the dynamics.
[01:21:00] In that group.
[01:21:01] And I've read a few of the comic books as well.
[01:21:04] But this one is.
[01:21:07] It kind of throws in a lot of.
[01:21:09] Supporting characters who I had never heard of.
[01:21:11] But they're really interesting.
[01:21:12] Kind of wacky.
[01:21:13] Anti-heroes.
[01:21:15] And.
[01:21:16] In comparison to the live action one.
[01:21:18] Since it is animated.
[01:21:19] It's able to do a lot more.
[01:21:21] Kind of science fiction stuff.
[01:21:23] Cool stuff.
[01:21:23] Yeah.
[01:21:24] But I actually think.
[01:21:25] The characters are better suited.
[01:21:27] If it's grounded in a reality.
[01:21:28] Like they kind of do.
[01:21:29] In the live action.
[01:21:31] But in.
[01:21:32] And sorry.
[01:21:35] Chloe's phone is.
[01:21:36] I'm trying to log into Hulu.
[01:21:37] To remember what I have watched.
[01:21:39] And it won't let me.
[01:21:40] So.
[01:21:41] My list is extremely short.
[01:21:43] That's okay.
[01:21:43] But the.
[01:21:44] Live action one is PG-13.
[01:21:46] Because.
[01:21:47] Of course.
[01:21:47] Budget and everything.
[01:21:49] But in this.
[01:21:49] Because the budget's a lot lower.
[01:21:51] And the audience is.
[01:21:52] More.
[01:21:53] Is smaller.
[01:21:54] The kind of.
[01:21:55] More smaller.
[01:21:56] The violence of the.
[01:21:58] Actual comic books.
[01:21:59] Is in this.
[01:22:00] And so it's a little bit grittier.
[01:22:02] And darker than the live action one.
[01:22:04] And so.
[01:22:04] There's kind of.
[01:22:05] Good and bad to the.
[01:22:07] Animated versions.
[01:22:08] But.
[01:22:09] It's.
[01:22:09] You know.
[01:22:10] I.
[01:22:10] It's not.
[01:22:10] One I would.
[01:22:11] You know.
[01:22:11] Tell anybody to go watch.
[01:22:13] But it's.
[01:22:13] It was all right.
[01:22:13] It was one of the better.
[01:22:15] Animated.
[01:22:16] Comic book movies.
[01:22:17] That I'd seen.
[01:22:18] And.
[01:22:19] Yeah.
[01:22:19] I think that might be about it.
[01:22:21] Other than that.
[01:22:21] I've just been.
[01:22:23] Quite busy.
[01:22:24] So.
[01:22:24] I think that's it.
[01:22:29] Well.
[01:22:30] I like to watch movies.
[01:22:31] On my stationary bike.
[01:22:32] As we've discussed.
[01:22:33] Did I already talk about Flower?
[01:22:35] No.
[01:22:35] You said you wanted to see it.
[01:22:36] I watched it.
[01:22:38] Weird AF.
[01:22:40] Yeah.
[01:22:40] It seems so.
[01:22:41] I was on the train.
[01:22:42] Until the last act.
[01:22:44] And then I said.
[01:22:45] What?
[01:22:45] It still wasn't bad.
[01:22:46] But it was.
[01:22:47] You were on the bike.
[01:22:48] Until the last act.
[01:22:48] Yeah.
[01:22:49] I was on the bike.
[01:22:49] Until the last act.
[01:22:50] And I was like.
[01:22:50] This is really weird though.
[01:22:52] Guys.
[01:22:52] But I'm still kind of.
[01:22:53] I mean.
[01:22:54] Not great.
[01:22:55] Not terrible.
[01:22:57] Yeah.
[01:22:57] You know.
[01:22:57] Just in the middle.
[01:22:59] At least it was interesting.
[01:23:01] Yeah.
[01:23:01] You feel me?
[01:23:02] Yeah.
[01:23:03] Maybe I'll check it out.
[01:23:05] Yeah.
[01:23:06] I actually.
[01:23:07] You should.
[01:23:07] I'm curious to know what you think about it.
[01:23:10] Okay.
[01:23:11] Actually I am.
[01:23:12] If I can.
[01:23:12] I'll give it a look.
[01:23:13] I think you should.
[01:23:14] All right.
[01:23:15] But I'm not.
[01:23:15] Now don't come back and be mad at me when it's not great.
[01:23:19] I won't.
[01:23:20] Yeah.
[01:23:20] Yes.
[01:23:21] Because I heard pretty mixed things about it.
[01:23:23] So.
[01:23:23] I think.
[01:23:25] Like I said.
[01:23:26] I don't want to like waste your time.
[01:23:27] But this one I'm actually very curious to know what you think about it.
[01:23:31] Okay.
[01:23:31] So that'd be good.
[01:23:32] All right.
[01:23:32] Yeah.
[01:23:33] I'll check it out then.
[01:23:33] I also watched Afternoon Delight with Katherine Hahn and Josh Radner and Juno Temple.
[01:23:41] On my stationary bike.
[01:23:42] Huh.
[01:23:43] One of the people on my soccer team like really likes that movie.
[01:23:46] And I was like it's here.
[01:23:47] I'll give it a whirl.
[01:23:48] I think you recommended it to me because Katherine Hahn is in both movies.
[01:23:51] And I like Katherine Hahn.
[01:23:52] Oh.
[01:23:53] So.
[01:23:53] It's like all right.
[01:23:54] I'll watch it.
[01:23:55] He likes it.
[01:23:56] I'll try it.
[01:23:57] It was very odd.
[01:23:58] I think I'm not a grown up enough to have appreciated it.
[01:24:03] Okay.
[01:24:04] I like Juno Temple.
[01:24:05] I also like Juno Temple.
[01:24:08] I think it's Jill Soloway who does like Transparent and stuff which I never watched.
[01:24:13] Me neither.
[01:24:15] It was all right.
[01:24:16] Basically didn't see anything great this week.
[01:24:18] I would rather watch.
[01:24:20] Interestingly enough.
[01:24:21] I would rather watch Flower over in Afternoon Delight.
[01:24:24] Okay.
[01:24:25] Yeah.
[01:24:25] Yeah.
[01:24:25] Well y'all.
[01:24:26] Which means nothing to you because you have not seen either.
[01:24:28] But anyway.
[01:24:30] Yeah.
[01:24:32] I guilty pleasure watch some things when I watch.
[01:24:37] Oh I watched the pilot of.
[01:24:38] Okay.
[01:24:39] So I'm doing decorations like I said for my Harry Potter thing already.
[01:24:42] Yeah.
[01:24:42] So I needed something that was like okay I'll give it a whirl.
[01:24:45] Right.
[01:24:46] So I watched.
[01:24:47] I don't remember what it's called.
[01:24:48] Oh and I mainly watch it because James Roday is in it.
[01:24:50] And I love Psy.
[01:24:51] Oh yeah.
[01:24:52] Right.
[01:24:52] His real last name is James Rodriguez by the way.
[01:24:54] Interesting.
[01:24:55] I saw that.
[01:24:56] Yeah.
[01:24:56] So anyway.
[01:24:57] So it was called like A Million Little Pieces and it was like not good.
[01:25:01] Like it's like so network show.
[01:25:03] It's unreal.
[01:25:05] Yeah.
[01:25:05] Like I didn't even get through it.
[01:25:07] I watched the end though.
[01:25:09] I skipped the middle.
[01:25:10] You know what I mean?
[01:25:10] Because I was like I know there's some juice coming up and I want the juice.
[01:25:14] Like don't make me plant the tree.
[01:25:17] Don't make me pick the oranges.
[01:25:18] Just give me the juice.
[01:25:20] Yeah.
[01:25:20] Yeah.
[01:25:21] And there was juice and I didn't like that either.
[01:25:24] Pulpy.
[01:25:25] I like pulpy juice actually.
[01:25:26] Pulpy juice.
[01:25:27] Bad juice.
[01:25:28] It was not worth it.
[01:25:30] So don't.
[01:25:31] No shade.
[01:25:32] But I wouldn't watch it.
[01:25:33] Do you drink the orange juice with pulp or no pulp?
[01:25:36] If I'm going to drink orange juice I will drink it with pulp.
[01:25:39] I do not drink juice because of the sugar.
[01:25:41] Right.
[01:25:42] But if I was going to, pulp.
[01:25:44] I'd go pulp yeah.
[01:25:45] Yeah.
[01:25:46] So I watched that.
[01:25:47] We have a helicopter flying over.
[01:25:49] Great.
[01:25:51] Happens a lot.
[01:25:52] Yeah.
[01:25:52] I don't know.
[01:25:52] I have nothing.
[01:25:53] I don't know.
[01:25:53] I can't remember what I've watched.
[01:25:55] I'm really mad about it.
[01:25:55] That's okay.
[01:25:56] I'm sorry.
[01:25:56] We can save it for next week.
[01:25:57] I feel like a failure.
[01:25:58] No, don't.
[01:25:59] You did great.
[01:26:01] You did great.
[01:26:01] Thanks.
[01:26:02] It was a real whirlwind.
[01:26:03] What else did I watch?
[01:26:04] I don't know.
[01:26:05] Yeah.
[01:26:05] Yeah.
[01:26:06] I don't think I have.
[01:26:07] I mean, I think that's good.
[01:26:10] So.
[01:26:11] So.
[01:26:11] I know I've seen more stuff though, because like I said, when I'm on my sickle, I watch something.
[01:26:18] I'm missing a movie.
[01:26:21] Between Flower and Afternoon Delight, I watched a movie.
[01:26:24] I don't know what the movie is.
[01:26:27] I bet it was amazing, because I can't remember it.
[01:26:30] Maybe so.
[01:26:31] But bring it up next week, you know?
[01:26:33] I will.
[01:26:33] Yeah.
[01:26:34] We'll figure it out.
[01:26:35] Yeah.
[01:26:35] Thanks for your support.
[01:26:37] Yeah.
[01:26:38] All right.
[01:26:39] Well, I guess that about brings us to the end of the show.
[01:26:42] Next week, I don't know.
[01:26:46] Do you know anything that's coming out, really?
[01:26:48] I don't know anything.
[01:26:50] Yeah.
[01:26:50] I think that movie Colette is coming out sometime soon.
[01:26:53] Hmm.
[01:26:56] Just a good fallback, I guess.
[01:26:58] Yeah.
[01:26:58] Other than that, I don't know if there's anything big this week, but we'll keep you updated on
[01:27:03] Facebook and Twitter.
[01:27:05] Facilibre is what I call it.
[01:27:07] Yeah.
[01:27:07] Even though it should be Libre Facilibre, but I like how Facilibre sounds.
[01:27:11] It sounds like Nacho Libre.
[01:27:12] Okay.
[01:27:13] Or Jack Black.
[01:27:13] Great movie.
[01:27:15] So, yeah.
[01:27:17] Yeah.
[01:27:17] Not sure about next week, but we'll figure it out.
[01:27:19] Hopefully, we can get somebody on.
[01:27:21] Brayden, Gary, Kaylee, anybody.
[01:27:24] Jacob number two.
[01:27:25] Jacob number two.
[01:27:26] That girl.
[01:27:27] Yeah.
[01:27:28] Yeah.
[01:27:30] You should bring her to my party.
[01:27:31] You have to find your plus one to my party, because you get a plus one.
[01:27:34] She'd probably be down for that.
[01:27:36] Okay.
[01:27:36] Okay.
[01:27:37] Cool.
[01:27:38] But make sure it's not, make sure it's clear.
[01:27:41] Your intentions.
[01:27:43] Yeah.
[01:27:44] Okay.
[01:27:44] I don't want you to have a bad situation on my account.
[01:27:47] Yeah.
[01:27:47] You also don't have to bring anybody, because we're friends, you're friends with my friends.
[01:27:51] It'll be great no matter what.
[01:27:52] Right.
[01:27:53] Oh, yeah.
[01:27:53] I mean, I had fun last year.
[01:27:55] My holiday party?
[01:27:56] Yeah.
[01:27:57] Have I told you?
[01:27:58] Have I disclosed this year's holiday party theme to you?
[01:28:01] I think so.
[01:28:02] I think you said it on the last show.
[01:28:03] But I don't remember what it was.
[01:28:05] Well, you can listen to the last one.
[01:28:08] Is it?
[01:28:10] Retroactive suspense.
[01:28:13] Is that the thing?
[01:28:14] Yeah.
[01:28:14] You have to find suspense.
[01:28:16] No.
[01:28:17] It's the office.
[01:28:17] Yeah.
[01:28:18] So go back and listen to that one if you're curious.
[01:28:21] I literally just said it.
[01:28:22] Everyone else heard it.
[01:28:23] Which one?
[01:28:24] Nope.
[01:28:24] Now you can listen to the list.
[01:28:25] All right.
[01:28:25] Well, I'll have to listen to it anyway.
[01:28:27] So, okay.
[01:28:28] So, yeah.
[01:28:29] Well, thanks, everybody, for downloading and for listening.
[01:28:32] We hope you enjoyed it.
[01:28:33] Chloe, thank you, as always.
[01:28:34] Thank you, Henry.
[01:28:36] And especially with the shifting times and all.
[01:28:38] And thank you again for the flowers.
[01:28:40] Oh, my gosh.
[01:28:40] You're so welcome.
[01:28:41] Yeah.
[01:28:42] And I'll keep everybody updated about how my mother's doing.
[01:28:47] And thank you to the people who wrote reviews.
[01:28:50] Yeah.
[01:28:50] And, yeah.
[01:28:51] Yeah.
[01:28:51] Rate us on iTunes if you haven't already.
[01:28:53] You know, it helps us out.
[01:28:54] And so we'd really appreciate it.
[01:29:00] Yep.
[01:29:01] Yeah.
[01:29:02] And we hope you have a wonderful rest of the day.
[01:29:05] And we'll see you guys later.
